Ah, I got you. Shame on my part, I used to live on the German/Luxembourg border near Echternach and should have known that.

Ive seen pills you can that does the mango thing but ive never tried. I would think it would work.

that's not a common region to go live in. I wonder what you were doing over there ?
Is it ppossible that you are old enough to have been in the US army when they were stationed at the border during the cold war ?? :)

And do u think that with regular rhum and ABV u can get golden dragon ?

Mycenes extract pills ?

hope the mango will work, coz as said in the rippen mango topic that would be a cool and efficient way to drink some golden dragon.

thx for the link Beezleb !

little report from two weeks ago.

At 4pm i poured 40grams of abv in a regular bottle of Dillon white rhum.
I let the Abv in the bottle.
Took it to a party and started sharing and drinking around midnight.

Had no sensible effects, and around 10 people drunk out of this bottle w.out a noticeable effect.
Apart from a nice taste and colour, nada.
but the rhum was good and people kept asking me if I did put sugar coz it was nicely sweet.

Conclusion: I guess 40% alcool just doesn't do it.... :) and i wasted 40g.

Anyway, it was a nice xperience.
Some people even asked if they could buy some of my rhum ... ok I was standing behind a stale looking like it was a bar... which it wasn't coz it was a free party in the catacombes lol.

^^ how big is the rum bottle?

did you grind the abv? any heat? any agitation?
and where you on a full stomach?...

i guess those are all the factors i can think of... 40% isnt that strong but on 40g, i would think you should have gotten something... did you end up drinking the abv?

It was a regular bottle,75cl if my memory is correct.

abv was not in dust, only slightly grinded. No heat, plenty of agitation !

had eat like 3hr before at least. I was drinking and vaping also.

I shared it with some people , no one had an effect near the one they had with the previous batch I made (see older posts)

The only reason I can think of, would be that there was nothing left in the abv (weird though), or that the abv were to old (6 months maybe more) and not well stashed,(regular ziploc in a closet).
Or it doesn't work with 40% alcool... or needs a heating ?

Ive never heated it. Each time its made it is different and I am unsure about the quality of the abv. I am unsure if it can go stale or not but I keep my abv in an airtight container before I am going to make swamp water with it.

I think it has more to do with lower quality abv. I now typically use the zephyr and my consistency has gotten better but I also have the LB and the DBV abv which alters the make up of the overall quality of the ABV. I think my lowest quality is when I use the DBV abv more as that is farther vaped.

In this case it was Volcano abv, so not dark at all. I guess it s pretty much the same w. the Ion
maybe the 40% just don't do the trick.

Ive read many articles on green dragon and I have not seen many positives reports with low percentage alcohol but those that I recall that were positive with low percentage allowed it to sit longer than normal, with green dragon it is typically much longer than with the abv, month plus in some cases.

I am only speaking from what I read on that though.

I had read 30 to 60 days for green dragon. I did a batch and let it sit about 45 days. Haven't tested it yet but man....it sure smells neat :) diff than swamp water or golden for sure. I'll let you know how it goes!

ok, thx, will wait for Lo's report then :D

And maybe try another bottle and let it sit a good one month maybe two..

I tried making the swamp water candies -- with great success! I wanted to report on it, because I ultimately found an easier recipe than the stovetop one posted before.

I tried the stovetop method first. It made a big batch, and I hadn't bought enough molds (not realizing how many I'd need), so I ended up greasing a glass square brownie pan and pouring what was left in there. That worked fine, though it's hard to get nice looking pieces.

In my first batch, I chose The Wrong Flavor, so obvious in hindsight. I used tangerine oil and orange food coloring, and while they ended up sort of orange, the dark green of the tincture definitely fought with the coloring, making the color sort of brownish. And the tangerine flavor doesn't really cover the swamp water taste. 1 oz. is a LOT compared to 1 dram! The resulting candies, though not delicious, are not gag-making either and work very well -- I felt first effects in 1/2 hour on an empty stomach, was quite high by 1 hour, and it lasted a crazy long time - about 8 hours!

Then I accidentally broke my candy thermometer, so I thought I'd try the microwave recipe I was given at the candy supply store - on one of those recipe card handouts sponsored by the flavoring company. The ladies at the store said it wasn't a good recipe, but it worked excellently for me! No thermometer is required, it was a MUCH faster process, and it ended up making less of a mess in my kitchen.

My second time, I used peppermint oil. And green food coloring (though this might not have been needed, the candies would probably be a little green anyway from the tincture - I'll try that next time, to see.) The tincture was also evapped down to a thick syrup. The candies taste great, very minty, no hint of tincture flavor.

Here is the recipe I used. Note that it makes half the amount of the other posted recipe. Note also that this recipe doesn't call for any water at all, unlike the stovetop method.

Be prepared with everything you need, and it's quite easy.

MICROWAVE HARD CANDIES
Ingredients:

1 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup light corn syrup
1/2 tsp. (1/2 dram) flavoring oil (Peppermint highly recommended!)
Liquid food coloring as desired (I used 4 drops)
swamp water tincture** (I used 1/4 oz. - it was very cooked down)

plastic wrap - have 2 pieces of the needed size waiting ready, and save yourself a potential Jerry Lewis-style moment of sticky fingers and Sabre Dance-themed anxiety!)

Instructions:

Thoroughly mix sugar and corn syrup in a 4-cup microwave-safe glass measure. [I used an 8-cup one, that's what I had. You just need something larger than a 2-cup size.] Cover with plastic wrap. Microwave on High for 3 minutes*. Remove from microwave, carefully remove plastic wrap. QUICKLY stir the sugar mixture and then cover with a NEW sheet of plastic wrap. Microwave on High for another 3 minutes. Remove from microwave, carefully remove plastic wrap and stir. Use caution to avoid rising steam!! After boiling has ceased, stir in coloring, flavoring and tincture. [I had them all mixed together.]

Pour syrup quickly BUT CAREFULLY into lightly oiled molds or onto greased cookie sheet (score at once to mark squares and break into pieces when cool.) [I used canola oil spray to grease the molds, also used a glass pan instead of a cookie sheet.] Let candy cool until hardened. Do not put cooling hard candy into the refrigerator. You don't need to anyway, it doesn't take long for them to set.

When cool, dust with powdered sugar to keep from sticking, if desired. (Put a SMALL amount, say 1 Tbsp of powdered sugar, in a ziploc bag with the candies and shake them in the bag. Too much sugar makes a HUGE mess, and you only want a little dusting. If you do overdo it, as I did, a pastry brush works well in dusting them off again. I felt like an archaeologist!) :)

* Note that microwaves can vary quite a bit. The original recipe called for 3 mins. 10 secs. on the first heat and 3 mins. 15 secs. on the second, but I know my microwave to be very enthusiastic, so I just made it 3 and 3. It worked perfectly.

Just a few of the candies so you can see. I got about 30 pieces or so, the candies weigh about 7 grams each.

------------------------------------------------

** My swamp water was made thus:

1/4 oz. ABV, crushed with mortar & pestle
1/4 cup Everclear

My ABV, like Beezleb's, is less than fully vaped-out -- that is, I stop short of the popcorn-taste point when vaping, so as to get extra joy out of the duff in edibles.

It steeped for 2 hours, and was shaken a bunch of times as it went. When strained I had 50 mL, and it was cooked (evapped in a glass measuring cup sitting in a Crockpot with water) down to 7 mL. I didn't intend to cook it down quite so much, I was watching something in another room and should have checked on it more often. No harm done though. I did have to add a few drops of Everclear back into it, as some had stuck inside the glass cup.

Nice writeup and pix Rosie!! You have me wanting to find some molds... The other method kind of scared me off a bit but this one sounds too damn easy not to try - THANKS!!

Happy 4th weekend :)

I just made a batch last weekend. This was my third attempt. I used a quick method.

I used 154 proof Grain alcohol. I had 10gm of moderately used kind abv. I added 3oz of alcohol and 1 oz of peppermint extract to ground abv in a mason jar.

using a water bath and a candy thermometer, I brought the mixture up to 170F for about 20 minutes. I would stir occasionally. I let it cool before I strained it. I used a french press for that and I had right at 4oz of liquid.

I evaporated that down to 2oz and then I threw in .5gm wand hash and bottled it up. The peppermint extract was an experiment. It gives the tincture a mouthwashy taste. Potency seems decent. 2ml is a mild high. I plan to try a heavier dose tonight.

also for a post straining treat, after I press as much out as I can, I put my spent abv in a steel tea ball and put that in a tall coffee cup with whole milk and a bag of green tea. I then pour boiling water in to top off the cup. And let it steep for 5 minutes.

Yay! I'm glad to have something useful to offer, I've learned so much here! :)

I am now at my parents' house, having traveled for the 4th, and am grooving pleasantly right now on one of my candies. I made them with this purpose in mind. Husband, a wonderful man but a worrier, worries about my carrying brownies* on the plane, but the Minty Duff Drops are about as stealthy as you can get. AND OH, DO THEY WORK! :D

* Of course I could make cookies or something else less "famous", but that happens to be what I had made, and it'll be a little while before I build up enough duff for another butter batch.

lol, well my pieces aren't as pretty as I don't have molds but... I'm sucking on a piece of candy right now and it's the tastiest way I've used the dragon :D WOW! I used the peppermint but no food coloring. Used golden dragon with a tad of my green dragon but I used 1/2 oz since mine wasn't as cooked down I figured.

Just realized I have a crapload of food/candy flavorings for ecig stuff that I could try too but honestly the mint is perfect I think.

What kind of molds did you use? I was looking at some hard candy/cough drop molds that would make small pieces but I imagine the hot slop would be tough to get into the molds. Was looking at this style:

Now to gauge the potency... I'll report back :)

I've got to say that I'm pretty excited about this too. Rosie, I think that the recipe you tried first might have been one I posted in the recipe thread indigal started for canna lollies that used jello? This one looks so much easier. I am all over this. I have over a quart jar filled tight with ABV that I've been wanting to use. I figured I'd make some swampwater and also some brownies on the next slow day I have.

Interesting that mint works so well. I know AGBeer swears by creme de menthe chips in his ABV brownies, so there must be something to this. One concern I have is that we can't get Everclear here and I will probably be using 151. What's the general opinion on how that will affect the taste? I've heard Everclear is pretty nasty tasting, but 151 is definitely nasty. I'm wondering if the mint will be strong enough to cover that.

I bet yours are very powerful! :ko: I found mine to last a very long time, way longer than the tincture by itself.

I used the same type of candy mold that you link to, the hard white tempered plastic, though a different shape - it's what they had at the candy supply store in my town that wasn't for lollipops. (Nothing wrong with lollies, I just wanted something smaller.) I like the round lozenge shape from your link a lot. I'd like to look into silicone molds, those could go in the dishwasher...

The hot slop is... a little hard to get in the molds, yet it's so thick that if you pour it just right you can control it pretty well. You get the hang of it quickly. It's way easier from the spout of the glass measuring cup of the microwave method than it was from a plain round cooking pot!

It's not so bad if some gets in between the indentations, I had quite a few dribbles in between; it breaks off easily once the candies set and even help you get them out of the mold. (May not be as much of an issue with the round shape. The rectangular solid shape I have were a little evasive about coming out of there. And of course they're slippery from the oil you grease the mold with.)

I found the first recipe on the "recipe box" thread, here.

I can't help with the 151, but I can tell you that the peppermint oil is really powerful. When I mixed my tincture, color and flavor, I sniffed the mixture and could smell only mint. Everclear is horrible but it doesn't have a real flavor of its own. I'd say, give it a try with a small batch.

lol, Exciting stuff Rosie! Yeah, I would like to find a way to make some smaller ones too. Like the idea of silicone molds that I could toss in dishwasher. Thanks so much for this easy recipe. I'm liking this idea a lot as I make tons of juice and not much of a drinker so I give a lot away.

Already called a guinea pig...lol, I mean friend to come pick some up and report back. I expect these with golden stuff should be potent. I'm waiting to see how they work :D

lol, Rosie!

First batch I used the mint and they came out fine but I dont' think they were strong enough.

Tried another batch this time used cinnamon (yuck, mint much better). Well I wanted to make them extra strong but I added a little too much hooch and they didn't harden properly...kinda, sorta hard but chewy, tacky. Taste like shit lol. I used some golden dragon and green dragon in this batch. You can taste that there is too much alcohol. Oh, but the potency is there....tv started looking really pretty last night lol!

Third time will be a charm! I'm going back to mint and will back down on the alcohol a bit.

Thanks so much Rosie, have had a blast with this project and looking at molds, etc. This is a great use and I'm excited to tweak the strength :) This idea is a winner!!!

Lo and Rosie, you guys are driving me crazy. I'm at my summer cottage and it's a real struggle to find just about anything "exotic" up here, including candy making material. I have to wait until I go back down state in a couple of weeks to get what I need to make these candies.

One question Rosie, how long did it take for your swampwater to reduce down?
