The Summit by Vapium (Formerly MARK 1)

I love my Summit. I've had it about 3 months.

Have you ever not been able to pull the bottom screen out for cleaning/replacing? I can't locate the little hook to grab on to it (gunked over - should have pulled it out to clean sooner!?). I can't seem to pry it out! Please advise. Thanks.

Agreed, it can be a bear if things get really nasty. I too learned the hard way it'll work OK way past where it's easy to clean.

First off, I suggest you work on the walls. I 'scaled' mine with a little tool that come with some vape, one of those SS ear scrapers popular in Asia and taboo with your neighborhood ear Doctor. Like these:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JGOYJAS?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_search_detailpage

Flipping it over, so the 'bowl' faces the wall I was able to chisel/scrape the walls downward in overlapping strips to expose the rim of the screen. Use care around the lug when you come to it, not to break it off.

Then heat the bowl, I found I had a film of condensate all across the bottom, softening it was essential. I then managed to hook it with a bent tip on a safety pin and pulled it free. I think the two major steps are clearing the rim so it can come up and heating the goo holding it in.

Had that failed, the next step is more drastic, thread a screw through the screen and into the hole in the bottom of the bowl, grab it with pliers and yank it free or mutilate the screen enough you can grab it and pull it out.

This might be seen as a weak spot, it for sure takes some maintenance to avoid problems, but the vape itself is so neat, so fun to use, it's going to happen if you don't keep after it. Small pirce to pay, IMO, but not a chore to let go too far.

Good luck with it.

It is a thin screen. Try toothpicks first. Pick out whatever particles want to come out. No brute force! The seals on this model have their problems if you make it an issue.
So be gentle with all the steps I suggest.
After you did all that, try pushing on one of the corners in such a manner to cause the screen to pop out on another corner. If you can't find the hook, perhaps you put the screen in upside down?:shrug:But try to find where the hook should be. That might be a good area to pry underneath to get it to pop out. Don't push down in any manner. Just try to get a little under it. I try to get in the habit of using the convenient little hooks. Because of all the tiny work.

I try to keep it clean, especially the pathway with toothpicks to not damage anything. Leaving it gunked up will not only decrease performance but cause you to bump into other problems. Stuck screens, clogged airways, mouthpiece behaving weird. or worse.:uhoh:

If you have a much harder time with it, let us know. Good luck!

Thank you, CuckFumbustion. I finally did pick the screen out with a paperclip. I just couldn't hold on to the little tool that came with it the Summit well enough to get a hold of the screen. I picked out the gunk (I will be more attentive going forward and do this sooner!) and saw the little loop and was able to hook it and get it out.

I love my Summit. I had used a Iolite as my first vape but the gas and lack of discreet ability to travel makes this a welcome upgrade!

Last night my Summit suddenly wouldn't draw at all. Turned out there was a blob of solidified gunk (technical term) stuck in the hole in the bottom of the bowl. I used pipe cleaners dipped in ISO but they were too flimsy and wouldn't come up through the hole when pushed through the mouthpiece end. Had to dig it out from the bowl end. It was really stuck in there. Eventually I blew real hard through the mouthpiece end and suddenly something flew out!
It probably landed in the couch somewhere.

I wonder if there is some kind of very narrow mini bottle brush that would work. Or heftier pipe cleaners.

Lo and Behold! The transformative power of Vapor.
There is several types of nylon brush to choose from. I use toothpicks myself.

Yes it would in a bad way. :uhoh: Glad you asked that. I wouldn't poke it hot as a thing either. Just as a precaution with the rubberized gaskets. Toothpicks either break or work well. But anything metal could damage the summit if you are unlucky. :2c:

You're welcome. I'm not so sure I know all that much, I've just made more mistakes than most and try to remember the way out for next time?

Those (at least some) should work fine I'd think. I'm not sure where I got mine, but they've saved me several times. One has a long wire extension soldered on.......

Would nylon melt in a hot oven?

Wait a minute, doesn't the summit come with a nylon brush? :hmm:Is it narrow enough for the job? If not, I have used the ones pictured before.

So you're saying even those little metal brushes could damage something? I'm not sure I understand exactly where these internal gaskets are located.

It is a nylon brush with a metal handle. Nylon is not heat resistant in any manner. The nylon would probably melt inside the bowl within seconds leaving an even bigger mess to deal with. Only use when the unit if entirely cooled down.

If you look at the metal part of your bowl of your Summit, just between where the metal and body of the unit meet is one large rubberized gasket. It is the seal between the bowl, the outside body and the internals. Respect it. The other area to watch for is underneath the screen area. I have neglected that area from cleaning before and have heated up the wet resin to my surprise.
So shine a light down that hole and keep the pathway clear from gunk. This model really benefits from preventative maintenance.

Hi folks,

New Summit owner here, not new to vaping. After my Extreme Q caused the upstairs landlord to shoot me a morning text saying he's smelled "something" on numerous occasions, I decided to keep things mobile going forward for sake of my living situation. Hence, the Summit purchase.

I'm trying to dial this thing in. Salt crystal grind with my mini santa cruz shredder, no top screen, packed to the top and lightly tamped, bottom screen pulled up a bit from the bowl base to enhance airflow.

One minute, I turn it on and have no airflow restriction, can pull 5 hits off of each temp level and see large amounts of vapor/quick effects. Dump bowl, rinse and repeat later in the day with the SAME variables (including strain), and I'm barely getting anything out of the Summit. Even if I turn it all the way up, vapor is minimal, draw is getting restricted, etc.

I have a theory in that the materials I keep in my C-vault w/ Boveda humidity packet and freshly grind are perhaps too moist (even though not really to the touch) for the Summit, as it seems like sometimes I have to run the unit for a while to "dry out the material" until it will start ripping. I noticed that if it sits ground overnight in a jar, this isn't as much of an issue.

I just cleaned the whole unit and am doing burnoffs with a fresh screen. Would like to get this thing running efficiently and effectively, as the trial and error has had me going through nearly a gram day, much of which seems to be wasted.

Where are we right now in terms of a step-by-step, most effective usage of this unit?

I have found that my Summit requires two cycles to produce good vapor, especially in the lower temp ranges. Like you, it is not all the time though. It could definitely be moisture. I try to dry my material out some in advance but don't always get a chance. It seems as though fairly routine maintenance helps as well. Hope you find your sweet spot! Welcome to the thread!

Well you are on to something with it being dry. Dryer is preferably better, I don't go as fine you do myself. Salt Crystal grind for my PAX.
Don't have a simple step-by-step so much as what steps to watch for when doing the normal inspection and cleaning. It might help you know what to avoid which will get you closer to the results you were getting earlier.

If you notice the screens, they are hex shaped and going into a round bowl. The tiny holes in the screen and the gaps between the bowl and the screen is your bottleneck.
I've gotten in the habit of keeping an ISO jar that I throw all my screens for cleaning and possible reclaim later. There is a rotation I keep between cleaned, soaking and in use. Since you already own an EQ this might already be a good practice for your elbow screens.

I keep toothpicks on hand for multipurpose. As scraping tool more for prying, not scraping. :haw:Plus I have a mouth full of broken teeth.
When I change out a bowl, after I take out the screen, I take a toothpick and swish around the bowl a couple times to break of any finer bits and then a few pokes through the center hole.

The summit has a narrow pathway which allows for no/low restriction. But what wasn't taken onto account was how easy resin will form at juncture between the very bottom of the bowl and the airpath. I'll shine a light through the top and peer down the mouth hole and see how quickly the build up occurs.

Now a little step by step. You can share any details with us that you feel would help.

Grind your flowers med coarse, if going fine doesn't work for you. I double grind in my SCS normally. If it is on the fresher side, my haze grinder for a simple pulled apart grind, so there is more surface area. Never has a real problem with coarse grinds in general. Maybe there is such a thing as too fine for the summit?

I have straw drawed into an EQ elbow pack with a wand and emptied the pack over the Summits bowl. For less fumbling. Then gently but firmly use the EQ wand to tamp down evenly. Or something equivalent. Something that allows for a little give. Like say a wooden handle. NO brute force. If you examine the construction, then you know pushing down hard will at least tax the seals.

Don't get too tight with the pack in the corners. I've also used the double screen trick and placed an extra screen on top of the pack, in case of say the lid falling off. Plus a little more conductive heat is added. Not sure if that trick would affect the unit negatively. Just make sure the screen is well below the gasket 'line' in the bowl Like I mentioned earlier, If you try that. Good luck.

Hi and welcome.

I had similar issues to you early on.

I agree with others, in that you don't want too fine a grind. I think fine grind has more potential to clump together and stick to/block the screen, both restricting airflow giving that slightly blocked scenario you described. I think as you pull harder to try to get vapor it then pulls the screen down (it is no longer on an angle, or less so), further blocking it.

I know i sound like a broken record, but the easy fix for me was to change to a mesh screen. More airflow. Less blockage. Just draw slower so you don't overwhelm the heater, if that's an issue.

Otherwise, i found that a quick blow or two back into the unit with some force could loosen the restriction(hold the lid just in case) and/or popping the lid and giving a stir and pulling the screen up slightly too if you have the right stir tool. In the end though, with the sticky stuff it's gonna wanna clump again and cause restriction, especialy with the higher temps.(wait...unless you change the screens. Did i mention that?)

Good luck

One item that will save you lots of time and $$ would be a smokebuddy or a homemade alternative. I am sure if you search sploofs (if that is the right word) you should find a DIY smell reducer.

Also, on the Arizer Air there were more than a couple of pages of folks drying their medicine lightly by using a heat lamp.

I have never had a serious issue with damp material. I have heard about the heat lamp, but never tried it.

If you want to try drying your material research first.

Here is a link to an Arizer Air manual written by FC's own Bravest
http://kbgym.com/air.pdf

The guide starts off with a section on drying your herbs.

Hope this helps!

Don't want to go off topic here, but I just investigated the above website.

Many of the vape prices (Including the Summit) are good/very good.

buyer beware, their accessories seem to be, in my opinion, very overpriced.

Dealing with sponsoring retailers may cost a little more on the initial purchase, but the long-term comfort of knowing you did not get a fake or a clone or overpriced accessories makes it worthwhile.

This retailer is a FC sponsor if this is means anything....

And yes lot of nice prices although some chineses cheap vapes are expensive here (i.e the Vapium is cheaper than the Boss!!!!)

Anybody can confirm this retailer can sell some counterfeits? (I don't want to lead people in a wrong way...)

Sorry...it's completly off-topic (except the nice vapium's price)

The problem with the summit is it's lousy build quality. I have had to replace three and the one I have now needs replacing, too. The plastic cracks and the magnets that hold the lid down become exposed and fall out. I can no longer Advise people to get this unit
