I would see this as inmature bud needing few more weeks if this bud was grown till tric turned amber this be stoney stuff.

clear is immature ... cloudy is more heady (max THC)... amber is more stoney (less THC, more CBD)

from
THC (TETRAHYDROCANNABINOL) ACCUMULATION IN GLANDS OF CANNABIS (CANNABACEAE)
http://www.hempreport.com/issues/17/malbody17.html

b. Effect of gland age on cannabinoid content

We also examined cannabinoid content of stalked gland by age to measure the major cannabinoid components in both a fiber and drug strain (Table 2). Glands, viewed under a microscope, can be classified according to their secretory phases from the color of their contents. Glands most active in secretion (mature) are translucent in appearance, aged glands are yellow in appearance and senescent glands are brown in color. Mature glands possessed the highest content of their major cannabinoid in both the fiber and drug strains. Senescent glands possessed low levels of cannabinoids. The concentration of some components, as CBD in the drug strains, may be so low that is was not detectable in our analysis; similarly, for THC and CBN in the fiber strain. It is unknown where the cannabinoids go during the aging process, but we suggest that it is possible they volatilize into the atmosphere along with the terpenes in glands, as noted later in this report. Nevertheless, this phenomenon of altered content in glands during aging is one that should be studied to gain a more complete understanding of the secretory process of cannabinoids in the cell.

Maybe your reggies have had a longer cure and not rushed as much or it is just tastier overall and may be way better grown well. The higher grade stuff may have been dried too quickly? I have found a lot of buds with great bag appeal which were not as good as some ugly nugs, but with the far majority the buds are amazing. I could pretty much guarantee you could treat the same exact flowers from chop and dry and cure them differently and see a massive difference.

What I focus on is first and foremost the taste and the effect/medicinal value. If I have to vape a little bit more I can always do that. Also not all strains are going to be 25% thc. Not all strains are going to have a very strong smell/flavor too. I got some NL X Hz which had very little taste at all. That stuff was wicked though.

If those reggies on the left and right of the photo work well for you then maybe stick to them. But maybe you should try a few different strains from different suppliers and not form an opinion too quick.

Also keep in mind it may not be OG. It could be big bud for all you know. :) I doubt any cannabis dealer would rebrand a high yielding low potency strain and call it one of the most popular strains in the united states (or at least the west coast). ;)

I also should mention....

The drying aspect of the process is extremely essential in maintaining an Aromatic Profile.

I vividly remember my first grow..
Flowers were insanely Sticky, smell was off the charts.

However, being my first time...
I followed the "Rule of Thumb" in my initial dry time.

"Do not jar until the branches snap cleanly "
Well, this rule doesn't apply in dry climates like Colorado.

The smell went from way over the top, to a un-appealing grassy, hay aroma.

It still got me HAF ..
But smelling the jar would leave one to believe it was "crap"

TL;DR
If the gardener messes up the initial dry/ cure...

An amazing crop can smell like nothing/grassy, un-appealing, many of the volatile terpenes will boil off, hence losing their modulation qualities.

And than the other aspect we must look at is plain simple greed or is it?
when the grower sells to a shop they know they will get less they want its like $800-$1100 a pound here.
so the growers get it tested toss it in the deep freeze to finish the drying before packing (this avoids mold?) and shake it collect the trics and sells those too.(( look closely next time in your a shop at the concentrates ,

They all look old but the one on the left one is what I call old & mouldy. They all look like they've been vacuum sealed which is fine but who knows for how long.
Anything kept longer than 6 months vacuum sealed or not loses quality.
It's good to remember that any fresh herb you harvest regularly will dry & cure at a different rate depending on what season it is.
Pull a plant in summer & it'll need a different drying & curing time than it did when you pulled it in winter. It's so easy to underestimate the role ambient temperature & humidity play in drying & curing.
In my opinion weed is no stronger now than it ever was. Sure on paper there are higher THC strains & concentrates & a lot of people like them, but they're similar in strength to the old sticky Buddha strains & hash.
GM strains are usually only modified these days to grow faster indoors, produce larger yields & also to look better for the consumer. That doesn't always equate to a stronger final product.
Selective breeding has been going on for years, it's how we improve food & weed but that's very different from modern gene splicing.
@pressure is probably right with his analysis on strength. Maybe it's similar to the way some GM fruits & vegetables look great but taste like shit because they've been modified for storage & durability not taste. In the end it's all about the $$$$'s.
From my perspective, the world has no choice but to ultimately embrace GMO products, or eventually face a massive famine. Simple as that.
You could be right but if we had of embraced sustainable farming & permaculture 20 years ago perhaps we might not have to embrace animal genes spliced into our vegetables today. However because money hungry modern agricultural practices forced the using & then discarding of healthy agricultural land, again we turn to science to save a population of people who can mow a great fucking lawn but couldn't grow anything to feed themselves if their lives depended on it.
Wait did I go of topic, where's that peace emoji?

I got a new batch of weed, the dude said i was called afghan kush. it looks just like my other nugs, smells a little fruity, but thats about it. Still doesnt smell like weed should, but it gets me a nice high. I dont know these days, smell, looks and all that really means nothing. You need to vape it or smoke it to test it, or else you could get ripped off

Get some good magnification and learn how to identify trichrome heads. It's great if whoever you're buying from lets you sample, but here I usually only expect to be able to observe and smell the nug.

I can't remember what it's called but there's something for jewlers that hash makers use to look at heads.

It can give you a good idea of surface trichrome content. Gives you an idea if the nugs are fresh or if they've been tumbled. I agree tests are really what is necessary, but you can get a good idea about trich content by looking as well. I suggest looking at the outside of the nugs, then breaking a nug and checking out the inside.

From this statement I think you just don't know how newer top shelf strains actually smell and taste. They are nothing like what we got 30-40 years ago, Nothing like bush weed or brick weed not even like late 70s early 80s killer sensi bud. It's a whole new world in the 21st century and this ain't your Fathers/Granddads Bud from the 60s-70s.

My thoughts exactly, as now many of us have access to so many different strains with so many different terpene profiles. It is certainly amazing how some of these strains smell..........

NO SMOKING
Sometimes I get bud that generally looks and smells the part when in the bag, but when vaped has not much taste and less than the expected high. I find it quite annoying and a waste of money so generally I try and get Lemon varieties (which are widely available) as the taste is kind of guaranteed to be flavoursome.

When I vape too much I lose my taste buds a bit. So if you have been vaping all day before switching to the high grade, it could be partly down to this.

Whatever works for you though. Seed and stalk weed can be tasty at low temps, and I'm a fan of it. Maybe the CBD content might have something to do with the 'stronger' high.

CBD and CBN both "round" out the effects of THC.

CBD in high doses can actually wipe out the effects from THC.

So, if one were using a CBD dominant strain/concentrate/tincture. .

It is best to dose CBD *prior* to dosing THC, in this case the meds synergize .

In fact, if it weren't for small amounts of CBD and CBN in those high powered THC strains (Gorilla Glue 4 for example)...

It very well could cause psychosis in anxious persons, heart rate to increase significantly.
