Herb Grinders

May as well go with a competitor if they screwed their product up by putting in a cheaper screen. Maybe they will change it back

I'm pretty sure there is nothing cheaper about the newer screens. Based almost entirely on comments I've read in this thread, my guess is that they went to a different screen because a lot of people think kief is bonus weed that materializes out of nothing. And if you get more of it, that must be better than getting less of it.

A lot of people think they're being cheated by fine screens because fine screens produce less "free kief." And if you can make people think they're getting more of something than they paid for, that's generally good for business.

Anyone else notice the new shredders design with better grips? I like that, though even with rocks in the cap mine turns soooo easy. Looks like some possible other differences as well.

I do like that they keep pushing themselves to innovate, but sometimes you can over engineer an already good thing.

Meh. No kief catcher makes this one a pass for me.:p

The pollen would probably go through the screen when you turn it upside down for a finer grind consistency anyway. :D

On a side note, does anyone else think this could be a great base for the first grinding soapbox car ever?

Yeah. There are a couple things they had right but reengineered anyway: 1) Screens, and 2) The groove pattern on the male edge of the lid.

The newer screens are pointless. Not much more to say about that.

Having vertical grooves on the male edge is simply horrible. I find every other groove pattern preferable, by far. Of my various Shredders, two have vertical grooves, two have a flat surface (no grooves), one has very pronounced horizontal grooves, and one has horizontal grooves you probably won't see unless you look for them.

Based on owning a few non-SCS grinders as well, I'd say the industry standard is clearly to have no grooves on the male edge. I think I prefer horizontal grooves, but having no grooves is fine, too. Conversely, vertical grooves make a grinder essentially unusable (to me). I don't know why they keep making them that way.

Ryan when did they make the "newer screens" and what is the difference?

And why are you unable to use the SCS with "vertical grooves" I think that's the kind I have?

I don't know when they changed screens. I'm not even positive they did. I guess I mostly trust what others have said, since people have consistently said older Santa Cruz Shredders have finer screens than newer Shredders (and because I bought my first one last June, and 3 of my 4 have coarse screens). Also, the SCS I have with a fine screen seems like it's probably older than my others; it seems less refined.

The ones with vertical grooves irritate me. They create a grating sound and sensation that just bothers me. Furthermore, it probably creates a potential health hazard.

Hi FC

I'm back with a cool little funnel mod for the large Santa Cruz shredder 4 piece, not sure about the 3 piece!

I wanted an easy way to transfer my herb from my purple ronnie shredder into my jyarz Chico and satchmo.I had been using a folded sheet of paper up to now.

The mount Franklin bottle is the only bottle I've tried so I would go with that one if You can find it in your local store.

There is a seam on the neck of the bottle.I cut along this line with a scissors. You can start the slot for the scissors with a sharp knife below the seam and angle up and cut a neat line along the seam.

Wo!,it's a perfect fit for the shredders tray.not even a mm room.you could almost pick up the herb tray with the funnel.

BTW My shredder started out as a 4 piece ,but I got rid of the Kiev catcher middle section as I didn't really need it.I also contacted SCS to see would they send me a rounded deeper 3 piece bowl as an accessory they weren't interested and would only sell me a complete grinder. The 4 piece tray works fine as a catcher & easily holds a complete grinder full and the funnel stops me wasting paper every time I grind.

I store my funnel, grinder and my material altogether in a black waterproof case in my fridge.its in the top left of the second picture.

I like the design of the new clipper grinder, but have concerns about paint chipping on the inner top of the grinder which can be seen in one of the YouTube reviews floating around.

have fun:rockon:

Looking forward to getting my NewVape Fine Grinder tonight. I've seen a little about it on the forum but not enough to sway me either way so I decided to jump on it.

I'll be coming from an old 4-Piece Sharpstone diamond cut. The solo isn't bad with it but is tough to pull at times. due to the larger cut. I'm up in arms about keeping this or going with a SCS 3-Piece. There are plenty of pages about that :-) I wouldn't call it buyers remorse, more so once I use this thing it's mine mindset. Can't say a product isn't good until I've tried it or rely on the AWESOME community that if FC!!!

Thanks

Please review the new vape when you have used it as it is a very nice looking 2 piece. Are you getting the new design with the wider side lip?

Mailman just showed up!! Here are some initial pics. Sorry for the bad lighting. First impressions, the build and finish quality are outstanding! This is what made in the USA feels like!!!

As far as usage, I thought I read earlier in this thread about the grinder being a coarse grind if you rotate one way and finer if you rotate the opposite way. Might just keep this and get a Gr8tr for travel use.

As far as getting the new model, I don't know since I didn't know they had an old design!

Those pics make me wish I had purchased the NV fine one. It is a very nice looking grinder & oozes quality build. That is their new design as it has thick sidewalls. Those sidewalls should cut down on resin building up along the edges. I have no need to but I now want a 2 piece NV grinder & that is the newer design indeed. See how the older design has much thinner sidewall depth?

As soon as you mentioned the old model i looked it up and saw the size difference. I didn't get a chance to use it last night. As finding any info about the product I'll probably just have to try it and see. I'd still like to grab a SCS3-piece ir Kannastor Gr8tr on top of this.

The build quality really is amazing. This thing looks like an old can of shoe shine sitting on the table. Looks pretty nostalgic. Really like that.

Thanks you guys. Picked up a 2 piece scs titanium grinder today and what a difference it's made. Much better than my old acrylic. Deals with wet bud really which I get a lot. Better taste and better vapor. Happy shopper for sure. I could sit and grind all day haha

First Santa Cruz Shredder... works great..

The only thing I wonder about is the little black o-ring seem like is can wiggle a little... Is there any chance of it falling off ?
Never falls off. But my SCS 3 piece black o-ring never really wiggles

Funny you mention this, look at what I found just now... "Alpaca Grinder" which is your idea with a grinder on the top half and it spins it around.

Pretty neat $70 with discount.

Does anyone know what's happened to the clipper grinder?

their Indygogo page is down

Edit ..Their Twitter page says April release for Clipper preorders.

After a week of testing, I can confirm that my kingtop zinc alloy grinder is well worth 9 quid...

I definately now feel that my acrylic did destroy the delicate trichomes, I feel my herb is better tasting and strength now...
