Former Surgeon General Joycelyn Elders To Keynote Marijuana Conference

From article.
"Dr. Joycelyn Elders will be making yet another historic stand, this time as a keynote speaker at the International Cannabis Business Conference (ICBC) in San Francisco on February 13-14th. The timing of Elders’ keynote address is crucial when the current Surgeon General Vivek Murthy has recently called for a review of our nation’s drug laws and California and several other states look to improve their marijuana laws on the 2016 ballot."

While his positions on Cannabis may be attractive, it is dangerous to look too narrowly at candidates.

"As governor of New Mexico, Johnson was an avid supporter of private prisons. And although he acknowledges that they have problems, he also believes that the positives outweigh the negatives.
"I think good government is offering goods and services at lower prices," Johnson said. "In the case of New Mexico, where we privatized half the state prisons, it was the same goods and services delivered for two-thirds the cost. In my opinions, that's good government."

For profit prisons is a terrible idea and has corrupted several legislators and judges. It is highly dangerous and a bad Idea for anyone to profit from putting more people in prison. The state MUST be the responsible party in any legal detention if we want to have ANY control over corruption and prison safety.
I could never vote for anyone who supported such policies.

Anti-Marijuana Politician Andy Harris At Risk Of Not Being Re-Elected

"Representative Harris has used his position in Congress to try to thwart reform efforts in Washington D.C." Classic partisan politician using his power over the will of DC residents. Which is another whole bailiwick itself.

Follow the money. He pushes for laws that his donors want. Doesn't give a shit about the people.

Very sad story. 3 of the patients also are likely to suffer irreversible brain damage if they survive.

Edit: important part of story too
Marisol Touraine, the French health minister, later said that the pill did not contain cannabis or its derivatives but acted on the body's endocannabinoid system.
So, for all intents and purposes, this is an attempt to chemically recreate cannabis in a pharmaceutical form. It is very difficult for them to patent a plant, so instead they want to create a drug that acts like cannabis so they can patent and control that. I think they are likely to run into further problems trying to recreate a naturally occurring substance that they don't fully understand. I think they may well be putting the cart before the horse.

I'm not suggesting they shouldn't be studying this and trying to determine how it all actually works, or that the ability to accurately control doses isn't an important field of study and a worthwhile goal, but the desire for that BIG PAYOFF tends to push research faster than maybe it should. I am perfectly happy using the plant at this point.

I'm hoping that this does not get misrepresented by the press and reported as an MJ death. Not as the pharmaceutical single bullet approach like mentioned before. Then the French company attempts to obtain a patent for it. Big Pharm is afraid to be left out of the profits. But I wasn't counting on such a bad scenario.
I've imagined a scenario where people will grow strains in their back yard and introduce more complex MJ plants that would make some patent holders anxious and introduce some BS strain patent legality issue to some innocent home grower. The sharks have already been circling.

OLYMPIA, Wash. -- It’s a quick and powerful way to get high.

'Dabbing' -- not the hip-hop dance or the celebratory move by Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton -- is also a term to describe the practice of smoking hash oil, a concentrated cannabis. And it is sending more and more people to the emergency room.

“We are getting one to two a day,” Dr. George Chappell said Thursday.

Two years ago, Providence St. Peter Hospital says they had zero cases. Doctors believe the legalization of marijuana has made it easier for people to dab.

“They are hearing voices, they are paranoid, they are frequently yelling out of control,” Chappell said.

Doctors say concentrated cannabis on average can be eight times stronger than smoking a joint.

The hallucinations can last for days.

Because of the hospital visits, one medical marijuana store is providing lessons starting this Sunday

“It’s filling up fast,” Rainer Xpress owner Patrick Seifert said.

The goal is to educate people on how to safely smoke hash oil.

Seifert said the biggest mistake people make is using too much.

“It's like comparing a beer drinker to a scotch drinker; nobody starts drinking with scotch,” Seifert said.

He added that the retail industry needs to do a better job of warning customers of the dangers.

“They should have informational cards that they hand out with their oil -- that would be huge,” Seifert said.

But Chappell's message is more direct: He says dabbing is too dangerous.

“I would personally not be willing to risk a psychotic episode for a high,” Chappell said.

Govt. is watching, might this haunt persons posting to FC from non-mj states??

I don't think FC postings are a concern for most of us due to the anonymity the site provides. Unless you use true demographics and your real names when setting up your account. It's way to time consuming and costly to try and detective your way through the minutia for a MJ offense. Cell sniffers are something else entirely.

Still...I don't want big brother...including my real big brother..... being able to monitor me like some of those technologies can. Scary shit!

I am not sure I agree; these systems are all automated to run searches automatically so there is no real time lost. And I see no real anonymity from using a handle, I imagine their advanced software is also capable of tracking and searching IP addresses.

The way I see it, in a few years [or scarily even today] someone may get pulled over for a mundane offense like not using a blinker or speeding, and the officers computer runs searches scanning for any activity associated with certain key words (imagine all those posted within FC threads) and zing they want to search your vehicle on the grounds of background searches and suspicion.

Been watching a few videos of Public Access channels in Vermont looking for anything part of the MJ debate. They didn't exactly reach out for experts from what I was able to scour. Local doctors and people who conveyed that MJ was physically addictive. Police are worried about more of a burden. Not ahead of the curve by a stretch. There needs to be more new science and statistics up in there. Some articles are mentioning 2018 as a target, others end of the year. CBD's have entered the debate. I would still keep pressing, the other side of the argument is.

This movement is happening by the legislators instead of an amendment. Plus the open legal process and town discussions makes it an interesting topic in it's own right.

Oh and +1 on Facebook. Some people are presumptuous enough to think I have a page.
