Thanks @CrazyDiamond , I would like to keep making them but it's still unclear at the moment what's going to happen. No phone calls or texts at all this week (pretty weird) from my employer, so I will keep going another week I guess.

No news is good news, for the short term anyways. ;)

Damn bro! Hope everything is alright for your career more broadly and am really sorry to hear that you may not be able to continue making plates.

They are absolutely outstanding and you have proven yourself to be one of the great FC vendors already in quite a short time IMO :)

All the best to you my friend, I hope it works out for you!

Thanks @herbivore21 ;) Still no real news here yet for me.

On another note, I am hearing a report of crushed 2"x 2" blocks with stuck irons under normal use (less than 10 tons).

There may be an issue with the 2"x 2" block design? So as of now, they are being discontinued until I figure out what went wrong?

are these the round or squared blocks? I certainly have not had my irons get stuck ever, although I drilled them out to match my own irons ;)

I finally got some news today and it's not good.

They are moving their shop to my shop today so I am no longer able to take new orders.

Thanks everyone, it was fun.

Man, sorry to hear that. I'm just now starting to get into rosin. From what I've read you're plates are the best of the best. I read this whole thread this past weekend and now the plates are no longer available:cry:. That's just my luck. Looks like I may have to post in the classifieds.

Let me ask if I were to try to have a set fabricated at a local fab shop is "2 inch round cuni" something that is readily available? Like would a typical "metal shop" have it or is something more "custom"?

Again, really sorry you had to stop production maybe you can pick it up again later and good luck with whatever your future holds.

Cuni can be ordered at specialty metal shops but it is not something I would expect to find easily.

Sorry @VAPEHUNTER , if I find any time in this new situation, I will send a pm but for now, I just don't see being able to get away with it here with bosses (I hate bosses) on location.

Sorry to hear that Joel. That definitely sucks as I'm sure it was very rewarding making something new that everyone loved and was happy with!

I hope something works out for you in the future that allows you to continue making these plates! I'm sure Vapehunter is not the only one that wants these and won't be able to get them. Best of luck to you with the new shop changes. I hope it isn't too bad!

Thanks @BoogerMan . Yeah, I am kinda bummed to have to shut it down for now.

If it gets too nuts for me at work, I have a feeling I will be going back to my old job in a CNC shop, as a backup plan. It's been 2 years since I have learned anything new at work and I miss that part of the job.

Anyways, all orders are completed as of today.

I will be shopping for a nice TIG machine, band saw and a decent drill press for the house soon, so maybe one day, I can make these at home again.

It is shame @Joel W. I finally built up the courage to order a couple of your plates after lurking on here a while. Maybe you should consider kickstarter or something similar to finance the equipment you need to start up again some day. I would definitely invest. In any case, I wish you the best of luck.
haha this, i was finally going to message you about some plates today, but procrastination wins again!

will still subscribe to this thread just in case...

FYI, I have enough material for 5 more sets up for grabs now, when I reorder, I plan on switching to 70/30 Cuni which has 20% more Nickel than the 90/10 I am currently using.

As far as I can tell from research and phone calls, it should not affect heat up times much but the material is harder/tougher.

Just a heads up so you can make a better choice. I think the price is going to remain the same but I will know after I try and work with it. Edit, the backing plates or press couplers will still be 90/10 material. Just the main pressing block will be 70/30.

I have only worked with 70/30 a few years back in small tube material and it looks like stainless but it was much harder to work with, than 90/10 Cuni.

One more note, the shop changes in progress have brought me a nice milling machine with table feed and the especially the much needed tooling , for a nice super flat finish. I got it dialed in yesterday,

It's used and old, but It's titties!

As of next week, I am told I am on a 20hr work week ( Tuesday and Wednesday) unless it picks up now. Some work program we are trying. I think I actually come out ahead after costs.

Shipping times will have to be increased to weekly, if it gets busy. We will see.

So yesterday was a pretty big day for me. I received my @Joel W. plates, vise, soldering irons, and scale. I'm at work so I'm trying to put together my "Rosin work bench" in my spare time, hopefully I will be pressing nugs by this weekend.
Has anyone tried mounting their vise vertical, so the jaws open up and down instead of side to side?
I'm thinking about it but not sure yet.

EDIT: When you guys use your soldering irons with the plates, do you leave the tips on the soldering iron or remove them? I assumed I leave a tip on to help conduct heat but the end sticks out of the 2" bar and I don't remember seeing that in any pictures. TIA
