Good morning, heres a quick shot for Show & Tell, this piece is a Mexican curl Katalox VapCap 14mm Thick wood body, bored to 8mm ID. Sucks yesterday was a crumby day and was out late in the shop finishing and packaging pieces so no sun and not a great shot. Its looks really dark and black in the pic but in the hand its more so chocolate with black grain lines, its a beauty!

Katalox%20VapCap%20Woodie%20-%20Eds%20TnT_zpsff0tit7y.jpg

The short 1/2"L shaft is just at 12mm OD for a 4mm wall thickness which should hold up and handle really well. Its in route and am anxious to hear how it performs.

Will do another post up tomorrow with a couple more for S&T if all goes well today!

Hello and good afternoon everyone, hope all has been good round you alls way and the you are looking forward to Spring as much as I am. Got to be honest, if its not hunting season Id rather it be warm and yesterday was the last day for that so come one Spring! Had a great few days as of past with my boys, I checked them out early Thursday and surprised them by doing so at school, we all loaded up and went for an afternoon deer hunt, was a great day for it, just not a great day for the deer, saw nothing while we were in the woods but on the way home we saw a few on the sides of the roads, sucks! Anyhow, Connor got in his spot alone, My youngest went with is grandfather to a spot and Carter went with me, we went to back part of the property looking down a long hillside where we have hard wood timber, its pretty much a rarity down here, everyone grows pine for the $ grows quick and brings ok cash. So we picked a big red cedar to post up next to, we cleared a small spot away moved the dry leaves back and sat back against this tree, its about 2" in diameter a fairly large tree for this species on our land. Was a warm evening for the most part, had been there about 10 minutes when we noticed a bee here and there, they were bothering Carter and I was like hey be still lets see what kind of bee they are, him not being one to even think about getting stung was tripping "Dad I am going to get stung" he was swatting his hands and flailing around, I knew we would never see anything with him doing that. I noticed they were honey bees so I told him to stand up and let have a look at the tree, low and behold there was a small opening about 6" from the ground at the base of the tree, they were trying to get in for the night and he was blocking it, not cool! So we moved over to another tree not far away and got put there. Gave the big cedar a look over and saw the top had been broken out and was not going to grow any longer, looked to be dead at least fora year or so. Got to thinking how bout this, a big red cedar that is already dead with a hopefully rather larger honey bee hive within it, ahhh what if the honey seeped into the wood grain, ahhhh how neat would that fragrance be, honey and red cedar, ohhhh got to be a winner! So I think the high for Friday is going to be like 36 so am thinking that would be a great day to cut it down and rob the honey and just have a look at what Mother Nature has blessed us with. Bet that would be a great piece for us all to work in the shop! Will get some pics and all that of the whole process when we are making it happen. My local sawyer is just a couple miles down the road so can get it cut up ASAP and should be already good and dry ready to be worked! Ok so I had one of these smart watches I had gotten a great deal on, it was a Meta, didnt have all the bells and whistles some do but was neat, I could get my text and emails as well as calendar info to my watch and me being on the go all the time and busy working I could see all that right on my wrist, for the most part I could glance over and see if they were important or not and if not keep right on about what ever I was up to. While I was on my way to Texas a couple of weeks ago, the darn clasp broke, figured no sweat will just go to the website and get a new band, well no such luck that company is no longer in business, I was disappointed, hadnt ever thought just how important such a device was until I didnt have it. As much as I dislike Iphones but do have one I looked into the Apple watch, even ordered one Wednesday last week, well it showed up Friday so I ran in from the shop and took a few minutes to set it up, was up and running in no time and getting text and such back on my watch, yesterday I even had a conversation using it and not my phone, uhhhh say what, yeah, thats right!!! I was like I am a secret agent man, lol! How neat this thing is, I can do so much and never even have to grab my phone, this is so stinking cool! Still aint much of one for Apple, am still an Android guy at heart and yeah I feel like a Benedict Arnold but hey whats a guy to do when he cant get texts from his sons! Spent Friday night with the boys and we got Everest on PPV, wow what a great movie, with the surround sound and deep base, was a great flick. Got up really early and went over to the delta for one last go at duck hunting, it closed yesterday as well, wow the morning started off on fire for about the first 5 minutes, guys were firing off shots all around and then just like it started it dropped off, still no ducks, stupid El Nino just screwed us for 15/16, I pray next year is better, just glad I took the time to go to Texas so I at least killed something. Got in such a hurry to get the decoys out and in position right at daylight that I took a spill in the water, got wet all the way down to my toes underneath my waders, what a way to start to the hunt, that and it was a bust wasnt cool but still had a good time, carter was just excited to be out there, he fired off a shot at a marsh bird, he missed but still was excited, he thought for a second it was a duck and thats all that mattered, he got a grin and so did I. Still was good to have the boys and spend the time we did, I so love them! Also got some time in here and there in the shop to finish up a couple more custom pieces that had been on the list for quiet some time.

Now for a little Show & Tell, first off we have a Purpleheart Solo base and stem set, was really fun to make, a 14mm straight stem, 14mm WPA, 18mm WPA and matching poker/stir/tamper

Purpleheart%20Solo%20Base%20amp%20Stems%20Eds%20TnT%20PNG_zpsmkp3j6rk.png

Now we have a set I had been meaning to do for Dave & Amanda at UD for a while now, they both got me hooked up with this beauty a while back and I wanted to get them right for the good deed. They have never tried one of my wooden stems so made them a matching set and are en route as we speak.

Ebony%20amp%20Blackwood%20UD%20amp%20Stems%20Eds%20TnT%20PNG_zpsdijddh4y.png

I have also been in talks with Dave a while back about creating a line for the UD alone using the UD OEM tips specifically for his customers. I wanted to do something a little different than I normally do and thought this would be a cool look for the UD line that would be consistent in design and I know how Dave likes burn bands, I plan on adding these to my site soon and offering them as a featured product for as long as I can make them this way. SO here we have a 14mm 4"L straight stem and 18mm 3"L WPA in Blackwood like the ones above.

UD%20amp%20Eds%20UD%20OEM%20Stems%20PNG_zpshdfwmfrf.png

These tips are made by Dave and Amanda themselves. I plan on making these for the UD with these tips in a few different species that will be readily available soon enough.

Good morning, alright I just got my hands on a slab of Amboyna burl, it has live edge which I have had an idea for a while. I have been wanting to do a base/display/shelf maybe kinda thing. I know many of you have some amazing Amboyna burl vapes and stems as well, I think this slab and my idea would really showcase your exceptional heirloom pieces. I am posting pics below

AB%20Slab%202_zpsjrlvkody.jpg

Dimensions are 1-5/8" x 5-1/4" x 14-1/2" and is kiln dried.

AB%20Slab_zpsktuyjair.jpg

Now I must say that this piece was not cheap, a piece like this is not an easy find, it is slammed full of eyes, my guy just happened to have it and I was all over it! The 1st pic is a top shot and the 2nd pic is of course the bottom shot. For those of you that are not familiar with Amboyna burl, the live edge portion of the burls are very pointed and sharp, they will actually poke the heck out of you, I like this, not the poking but the unique characteristics of the live edge itself. You will notice it is covered in wax which is commonly done to pieces of this quality. I want to remove all the wax from the entire piece, bore a small recess for a vape or two & additional stem recesses. Once this has been done I will sand and soften the entire top and bottom portion then apply a few coats of polyurethane to make it POP, watch out!!! Am I out of my mind or does this sound appealing? Pls tell me your thoughts! Is anyone interested? If I am crazy and no one is interested hey I still have an amazing piece that I can do with what ever I like!

I gotta believe I am not crazy but do sometimes wonder as do others that know me!

Hahaha @Melting Pot Good one bro, @NickDlow who knows just thought it was a cool idea was all! Hello and good morning everyone, hope all is well out there! Had a great few days these past. spent some good times with the boys in the shop and in the house. I was freaking slammed all day Thursday and most of Friday before I got the boys from School, sent out another order to Haze for V3 WPA's 14 & 18mm. Was rushed, before I could finish this order they added some more, they didnt make it out Friday, will be next week.

Haze%20V3%20WPA%20Eds%20TnT_zpsyh6ekifq.jpg

Got with George at VC and have another round of woodies to work on and get out a week from tomorrow. Still working on custom stuff in between orders, got plenty to do but squeezed in a few hours with my 2 oldest in the shop yesterday. Connor got these beauties done, Red Oak Salt & Pepper shakers done, he wanted to burn these too, really like how the heat brought out the red in the grain as well!

Red%20Oak%20SampP%20Shakers%20TCC%20PNG_zpsxmmxze0u.png

They need a home if anyone is interested! Carter got this piece done and will go out to his next customer on the list

Reeds%20Amboyna%20Burl%20Wooden%20Pen_zpstkwwi3oa.png

Its a two toned Amboyna Burl piece made from the same blank, love the creamy top and red burled lower portion. Will make a fine piece for his customer! @NickDlow we gotta dig around and get some more Buckeye Burl to make for you, like I said the initial piece just didnt make it but we have some new tooling to make the assembly process much easier. After spending most of the morning in the shop with them it was time to round all three of them up and was so in need of doing some spring cleaning in the house. Got each of them to work on their rooms and closets, throw out what they dont play with anymore, well not throw out but bagged and ready for Goodwill, they vacuumed their rooms and did a great job. I gathered up all my hunting gear that had piled up from the season and put it away in totes and back in to the shop they went. Put away all the guns too, I swear I must have had them in 4 or 5 different corners in the house. Just gets tough to put stuff away after a really early hard hunt knowing that we are just going to pull em all out again in a few days. I put away some other clutter and even rearranged the living room somewhat. Made it a little more movie friendly now with the added sound effects I acquired back at Christmas. Took a few hours to do all this, took a quick break before doing something different, now for a little Cook & Tell, I got a big fresh slab of Salmon, the boys love it as do I, am all about fish @KidFated. my man, you got to try this! So I took out the salmon, dried off any water, laid it out on some tin foil, rubbed it with olive oil and hit it with S&P, put in the oven for a few minutes, not long.

Salmon%20Fillets%20Before_zpszcapfslq.jpg

Right side is before the dosing, left side is after and before the oven. I really like a cream butter sauce, I am all over at any restaurant if they are doing it, so I googled how to make a lemon butter cream sauce and there ya go, I had the recipe, had to get white wine, heavy cream, make lemon zest, whisk it on the oven with a little salt and such squeeze in the lemon, and WOW the fish was ready, plates fixed, smothered my chunk with the cream sauce and HOLY COW was it amazing!!!

Salmon%20After%20W-Sauce_zpsj0hmfits.jpg

I could not believe how it turned out, never have I eaten a sauce like this before, the salmon just was so accentuated by the flavor. LOL the boys arent for sauce, they are just straight up fish kinda guys, I told them you have to try it it, the sauce accentuates the flavor, they said what, "What is accentuate?" OMGosh got a laugh out of that and had to explain the meaning, they still werent digging it.

@NickDlow Just you wait bro, I have really been excited about the walnut burl wall clock, think that will be a great project for Connor and his biz. I cant wait to get all this latest shipment of wood in, going to be really sweet opening it all, I get giddy like a little kid when doing it! Really glad you like those new pieces and gotta give it up to @Snappo for all the work he does in acquiring it, well done!

@Reflections Good morning, aint nothing like wood shopping, I always ask my guy when I place the order is there any thing I should know about, new arrivals stuff you have tucked away, sometimes he does and this time was a bonus! Hope all is well your way!

@stickstones Hmmm thats a great question, I cant say I ever have, hmm am sure its out there and would be interested in working some if so. Good question!

@Snappo Wow what species have you seen in that? Is it petrified as in stone? I have seen and talked to duck call makers that turn corian they say its just like turning wood but you have to really take your time, would be neat to do so!

@Spocks_Katra Look out, your 3rd one, thanks so much for the return business my man, I appreciate you and hope all is well for you!

Got to get out to the shop shortly and pack orders for shipping, just had to look at the calendar, I know next monday is a holiday today but bet ya I forget it is next sunday when I am packing orders thinking they just got to go! Pls someone remind me this time next week that there is no shipping on Monday! Wish you all the best out there and hope you have a great super bowl sunday!
