Discontinued The Okin by D.M. Pipes

Would someone explain where the current list is? I've been on a waiting list since October but Dan said he needed to complete the first group of preorders before he would contact me to place an order. Is there any information about when those on the second waitlist will be contacted?

Thats correct ^

Im starting the 3rd batch next week. 15 more Okins. Things should go much faster from here as well.

After the first 50 pre orders are filled, I will not be making another wait list, but rather just making Okins then selling them on a first come first served basis until stock lasts. Those on the mailing list will always get first dibs before the public.

Confused as usual. After the 50 preorders are complete, will you email those of us on the mailing list so we have first option to buy the public offerings? Or?

Just arrived home to find my Okin waiting for me in my mailbox. Of course I tore that package open immediately!

Dan she looks amazing! And such such care in the packing and everything. These things emanate love for the craft.

Can't believe after all these pages I'm finally holding an Okin in my hands! I'll admit, I'm a bit giddy right now. :luv:

Thank you again, I'm really looking forward to her inaugural sesh. I'll definitely report in when I fire her up.

So, had three sessions with the Okin so far.

All were successful, albeit not perfect. Still learning the ins and outs of the proper technique. It is very easy to bring temp up too high if you don't control your inhalations. Though my ABV has been more even brown with each progressive sesh.

Other than the learning curve, everything else is rather easy. I really enjoy drilling the holes in the charcoal as well as lighting it. The ritualistic aspect of this device is great, and allows for a nice meditative feel that puts your mind in the moment.

 OH MY! OH MY!! OH MY!!!

Now I knew that this was going to be something very special, but even so, I was not quite prepared for this level of amazement.

Yes folks, the Okin has hit these distant shores & I have been knocked for six!

Sooooooooo, anybody wanna see some Okin unboxing pics?
Please disregard the remainder of this post if your answer is 'no' ;)

I really wanted to record this entire momentous occasion for posterity, so my apologies if you feel that I've drawn it out a bit :D . . . intricate, magical, ceremonial . . . . all of these & more meaningful and less disjointed words will follow, but for now all I can really do is stare in awe . . . . & feel very, very lucky.

Now on to those snaps, they're nothing when compared to those taken by our man, Dan - but I hope you enjoy them nonetheless . . . (again, sorry if I got a bit carried away. I even loved his packing style!)

Awww man! I'm speechless again.

More pics & further impressions to come . . . .

Thank you @Dan Morrison. Your art is inspiring, uplifting and a pleasure to behold.

Thank you @SD_haze - it's definitely so much easier when the subject matter literally smoulders like the Okin does ;)

And good luck with the re-screening process. Looks like it'll be not too bad to do, with a bit of care of course. But let us know how you get on - it's always interesting to hear & I'm certainly willing to learn from anyone's prior experiences.

My better half is a bit of a Harry Potter fan - subsequently she keeps calling my Okin the Nimbus 2000 . . . .

. . . But I can't really see it myself!

. . . Although I'm pretty sure that it really is magic. . . and who knows, maybe I'll be flying high like Harry before I know it! :D

Wow those pics look awesome @VegNVape !! Thanks so much for posting!

The vacuum bag looks a bit less...vacuumed, I wonder if it leaked in transit, if it was opened by customs, or if it's just how it looks in the photo. Anyhow, doesn't matter so long as everything arrived ok!

I think for the next batch I will try to use kraft cardboard boxes as well, so evveerrytthing is kraft! ha!

The thing about the foam core though, is that it's super lightweight/strong, and most of the orders with 250 charcoals are just on the cusp of 500grams. If you go over 500grams, the shipping charge goes way up.

Update on the current batch, I've got 20 Okins in the works, all moving along much faster than the previous two batches! Aiming to get them all out before the end of Feb. These will be for those people between 20-40 on the list!

p.s. - I am also a huge Harry Potter fan, and have totally noticed the resemblance to the Nimbus 2000! I wonder if my subconscious had a role to play in the design or if it was just coincidence?

@SD_haze Just let me know if you need any guidance for the tying on of a new screen. You can use the generic SS screens that come in little 5 packs, available from pretty much any headshop/gas station in Ontario (and I assume the rest of the world). Scissors will need to be used to cut it to size after forming it into a basket shape.

Number 020 arrived yesterday in the UK

One word "Wow!" This thing really is stunningly beautiful. So unbelievably tactile in all its gorgeousness.

Smaller than I envisaged but all the better for it.

I've taken it out of its case so many times over the past few days I've lost track, just to assemble, touch and feel it again.

The one downside is I have no material at present to try it out. It is torturous :bang:

I have unfortunately smudged the ink stamp by wiping some moisture from the sleeve. So careful with that people.

Thankyou @Dan Morrison it is a stunningly beautiful piece of art ;)

Gorgeous!!! I wonder if a light application of a natural sealer could be used to prevent stamp smudging - either over the entire sleeve, or just covering the stamp... waterproofing...

@delloy - so glad you like it! And again, another person surprised at the size, ha!

I used a new ink on this past batch, different from the first. I had thought it was waterproof... but i guess not. Damn, that really sucks. Try dry rubbing it on a cloth vigorously, hopefully the pigment is suspended in the layer of wax that sits on top of the paper.. you may be able to rub some of the loose pigment out into the cloth.

You can also try blotting only the smudged paint with damp cloth, being careful not to touch the original stamp. That should help.

After the blotting, try rubbing the logo with a warm white candle wax, this will protect the logo from future smudging, and may help rub away loose pigment.

For others in the last batch, rub a chunk of warm candle wax (a plain white/beeswax candle, nothing coloured) ontop of the logo area. Apply a few coats till the area feels a bit waxy, this will provide extra protection from water spills.
