100% Decarb With The NOVA

First of thanks to the mods for the warm welcome...

There was a mention of the NOVA here in FC so I wanted to officially share the product and answer any questions.

The NOVA is a precision decarb device for patients and users that want to make their own edibles/tinctures/etc. at home.

You simply place your flower/concentrate/kief in the NOVA, seal the lid, hit a button and in about an hour and 15min you've got a 100% decarbed product.

Why not just use the oven?

The NOVA is designed to work at the optimal time and temp while maintaining the optimal environment for decarboxylation to occur at 100%.

Some people have had success using conventional methods (water boil, toaster oven) but for the average person just getting started the trial and error process of decarboxylation is confusing, inconsistent and wastes a lot of time and bud - hence the NOVA.

What does the flower look like after it's been decarbed in the NOVA?

Welcome to the site. Your product looks very simple to use:). I may have to look into this for my wife. I have been getting jolly ranchers for back pain and migraines because she doesn't like vaping / smoking.
I think she may like this so she can make her own candies.

would it be possible to use this product instead of vacuum purging bho? if it is, this may be worth purchasing.

@Ganja O ,

So we know the time, 1 hour and 15 minutes.
What temp does it run at?

Any option for user to vary the cycle, more time with less temp, for example?

Thanks

This feels like a very niche device. Depending on how odor control is I could see it maybe being useful for people who can't decarb in the oven like dorm residents for example. The price at $260 seems really expensive for what it is and does, I believe you could get similar results with a steel container and a cooktop induction heater for much less. At that price I think you should be able to at least customize the temp and timing for advanced users.

If the decarb cycle is 1h15m, I'm guessing the temp is pretty low? Would there really be that much of a THC loss through either burning or conversion to CBN if you decarbed at the same temp range in an oven?

No that's a different process altogether.

The internal temp doesn't exceed 120C The device is optimized for 100% decarboxylation so you don't have to fiddle with time or temp.

You're right this is a niche device, specifically for people who aren't experts in decarboxylation or extraction and simply want to get an accurate and efficient dose.

When we did the testing we realized it's virtually impossible to get the kind of accuracy needed for 100% Decarboxylation to occur using any of the methods currently out there. Simply put, we built the science into the device making it simple for even the most advanced user.

There's a ton of info out there on decarbing but sadly with all the different homespun methods it can be intimidating and confusing to the person who simply wants to make their own edibles without having to hover over the oven and monitor different temp probes to make sure they don't toast their already pricey bud.

let me know if that answers your question

Does one still use the decarbed bud in edibles which are cooked in the oven? Because I wonder if the efficiency of the decarbing changes how you'd want to cook/consume the bud. Are there certain recipe/styles of cooking ideal for bud decarbed in the nova? This looks like a really cool product, can't wait to hear more.

Does the unit smell a lot when the process is happening, or is it air tight and retains all smells?

Airtight, no smell.

Good question. You get the benefit of using the entire bud, so that opens up a can of opportunities. That said, recipes that don't require any or minimal heat are best. You don't want anything that's going to scorch the bud.

Thanks for the reply, this is something I'm really interested as I can't have my studio reeking.

I want to order one but I see you limit your ordering to MMJ legal states only. Why? Technically it's just a heating device and even though it's made to heat cannabis - but I'm sure it's not made of cannabis!

Technically you are right but there are legalities that restrict us to MMJ patients and legal states - check out LiftDecarb.com for the herbal alternative

Out of interest, what kind of heating is used in the device to ensure even distribution of heat around the notoriously uneven organic matter that we are decarbing? Is vacuum used as well or just heat?

Also what mechanism is used in the device to ensure that it knows when full decarb has been achieved? Remembering that somebody with immature nugs is going to need far more time with the heat being applied to get 100% decarb whereas somebody with a long term cured nug is going to need very little heat application comparatively to achieve the same!

I have received mine and I tried a little test. I made some medicated cakes, some with herb decarbed with the Nova and some with no decarb. Everyone I have tried them so far have preferred the ones that used decarbed herb. I know very little about decarbing so I thought I'd get this machine and see what the hubbub was about it. Well I am now a fan of decarbing (as I do more research on what it is) and think this machine is worth it so far.

Hi, will be ordering one in the (very) near future. In addition to my own use I cook food items for others. This would be perfect of army uses!! Licensed in the ugly step child of medical states, lol.

When I first looked there was a discount coupon at your site; now, 10 minutes later it is gone! do you have a discount code for FC members?

Saw this device in person at the company's booth at the New England Cannabis Convention back in April...

Honestly, the concept is great and its a plus that the parts are made here in the US (something I was told at the booth even though I can't confirm it anywhere on their website), but the product quality, especially for $260 is very underwhelming.

To me, the device seemed flimsy and cheaply made.

Gn0sis; appreciate the in person review. I agree on the price point but for my uses it will be worth it. Will comment on the quality when i receive mine.

Decarb2016 is the coupon code. I am waiting to hear back as to how to specify color; the order form has no way to do that. Must have my purple.

I love mine. I've made edibles (brownies) again with the same herb, same amount (one batch was decarbed by Nova, one batch no decarb) and people commented they liked the decarbed batch better. The butter was both made with Magicalbutter. I was the only one who knew the difference. I have run this test 3 times and people preferred decarb edibles ( meaning I had people say "these are stronger than those or I ate one from there and had to sit down, etc)

I don't know much about decarbing (still studying up on it) but I see the difference.

I think the Nova is worth it. Mine feels sturdy and well made. Mine usually takes about 1hr 15min to finish. No hassles and extremely easy to use, very low maintenance. The only thing that is flimsy is the lid for the container you put the herb in. Sometimes the overall lid doesn't catch at first but nothing to get upset over. I guess $260 is too much to make your herb stronger. I've had mine since March and I feel like it has paid for itself already. Plus there is 0 smell when using this. I had it running in my friend's kitchen and no one even gave it a second look.

Why not just get the Magical Butter Machine?

They are $85 cheaper, better built and more refined.

Or better yet, dont use a machine at all...

I just get a flat glass dish/tray, spread ground up herb on it, seal it in a turkey bag (to contain smell), put it in the oven for 45 minutes along with an oven thermometer and make sure the temps are reading 248F right where the dish/tray sits. I get perfectly decarbed herb every time. You can even taste the terpenes through the coconut oil I infuse the herb with. High lasts me 18 - 22 hours.

I just can't see how the Nova could be worth $260 considering all the alternatives available. I think its true cost should be around a $100.

High, erryone, just ordered the Liftdecarb variant cause I'm stuck in a non-med state.
Decarb2016 worked to knock $30 off price.

Why did I just spend $220 when I've been using the oven for years?
Moved into an apartment after selling the farm. Oven decarb is the stank. Like out in the parking lot stank.
$220 is a very low price to keep everyone in my zip code out of my business.

@gnoSis. The butter machine doesn't decarb. Just infuses. That I can do on an induction hot plate without much smell.

Add the convenience of just putting in a container, press start and wait, dump in a MB, add other ingredients, press start and wait, strain, cook edibles all within a total of 4, maybe 4 1/2 hrs and I have fully cooked medibles plus no smell at any point (I've done this process in front of non smokers and they had no clue til I told them). $260 + $179 (MB)=already paid for itself.

Edit: the whole time I don't have to pay attention to anything during the process but the buzz I'm catching while making medibles......priceless

Assuming that it does the job I have absolutely no issue with the price point. The convenience, speed, lack of smell, and simplicity are perfect for my uses.

I can see a few cannabis technophiles not adding it as one more thing to their collection. But for medical users? I don't think they will lose any sales. Plus I don't trust even a very accurate oven to not have hot spots and circulation issues. I very much like the self contained nature of the NOVA. It would cost me more to buy all the gear for a sealed bag boiled water decarb.

I have made Magical Butter decarbed oil. But you need to run the thing for a long time to do that. I am intending to switch to using a NOVA and a stove top expresso maker for my future oil making.

Just heard back: the only color currently available IS purple! So I am good.
