Discontinued Zion vaporizer

As @VapourHaze has pointed out @Alan Partridge there are work arounds to getting a Zion in Euro despite the fact it can't be shipped here, having a friend in the states to purchase and send on is one solution as are the third partly shippers, always a way Alan ;)

Even with the warranty voided I would imagine the amount of problems coming from zions in general is going to be minimal. Could always grab a single unreg version with international shipping and a warranty instead? Worth a thought.

So I have been thinking about jumping on the Zion preorder train. I have been on the Grasshopper preorder list for about 6 months but I know that still puts 1.5 years of preorders ahead of me. I can't afford both the GH and the Zion so I've been thinking about canceling my GH preorder to instead join the Zion preorder list. I haven't followed the Zion nearly as much as the grasshopper, although I have skimmed through a lot of the pages. My biggest wonder right now is how long of a wait it would be for the Zion if I ordered it now. Anyone have any thoughts or ideas that would help me decide? I think personally I prefer the simplicity of the Zion design vs the GH and it should cause less future issues. I am also a fan of RBT's involvement of FC in their feedback. I guess I've pretty much already sold myself on the Zion since I am just tired of everything to do with the GH, so I am really just wondering how long people think the wait will be

Thanks all :D

I was wondering similar things, not even a specific timeframe but just where in the Zion production chain this would be, one of the 200? After that? What about the unregulated. Time isn't an issue, just an idea of where I am in the process would be paramount for me before I spend. Among a few other questions regarding the single unregulated version and exotic woods... did not think it pertinent to ask in thread so I tried to send him a message on FC....

Says only certain users have permission to talk to this user? I too totally dig how involved they are in the thread, but I think he should lift that. People aren't gonna bombard your inbox with hatemail so to restrict communication in that sense kind of sucks....

Because I then had to use the "Contact Us" form on the page and despite it saying it went through and they'll get back to me, this was on 1/21 and they haven't gotten back to me. Perhaps it got shifted to spam, because it asked for "preorder email address" which, you won't have one for me because I didn't preorder. So how am I supposed to reach? Used my standard gmail as the address.

It did say it was delivered on the submission page, so maybe in spam? If we can't PM you on FC, people are going to use the Contact Us form submission. And if it's somehow verifying that its not spam by matching your "preorder email" to the email used with the submitted question, those of us who haven't preordered are left with a sort of disconnect and aren't able to reach you. So if @RastaBuddhaTao could get back to me, that would be awesome, cause I had a handful of questions

Happy Birthday @VegNVape have fun, looks like a great time with Johnny :)

@RastaBuddhaTao has his hands full right now just getting units out the door. I know (because he told me) that if you ask a question that is answered on his FAQ page, you will be ignored. The reason for this is simple: every minute spent answering email that has already been answered is a minute away from assembling units. I am willing to bet that is also why he limits PMs—they turn into a time sink.

But I like it!
So I checked the mailbox and Satan has arrived! First off - RBT packs like a military traffic tech, so thanks for that! Everything perfectly wrapped in bubblewrap, so lots of little prezzies inside the big prezzie. I forgot I also ordered a Nitecore D2, so I now have a spare charger to go with the XTAR VC4 that is currently charging up 1A&B on the left, and 2A&B on the right.

My first thought during unwrapping and investigating is that firstly I should be playing something quite reverential. I loaded a whole bunch of The Cult onto the ipod today, so thats as reverential as I'm likely to get today... Now that it's unpacked and I've taken it apart a couple of times I'm quite impressed with the fitting and finishing. All the joints are nice and smooth (wood butcher in a previous life). It was a bit tricky getting the cork plug off the stash space, but I thought it might have a bit of vacuum from going from sea level to 2700ish feet above, so undid the knurled knob, latched onto the threads carefully with needlenosed pliers and off it popped, and now it sits in nicely.

So I have RBTs autograph on the customs form, and thanks for that as well. And then I open the battery cover and find a nice little note, and also that my unit, #3, is actually serial number 13! So hot damn! I'm a big Pixies fan, and now I think I'm working on a name for the beauty formerly known as 3bie, based off their track Number 13 Baby ('she got a tattoo'd titty, say Number 13 Baby')... It's almost like it was meant to be somehow...

This is also for V&V in honour of his/her birthday. Trying to remember the name of a decent pub, but the only place that springs to mind is Gordons, underneath Charing Cross. Regardless, have a pint of something bitter on me :)

Edit - holy snappin turtles! I'm on the lowest setting, preheated for about 3 seconds and started drawing. It's pretty easy to feel when you are getting thick vape, so I was 'surfing' the button from the first draw. Draw 3 I got a bit of charring, which isn't unexpected as I had it jammed totally full. 3 draws and I'm feeling pretty darn giggly, which isn't really common. I can also feel a bit of resin forming on my teeth, which also happened with the INH05s I used to have. Straight, short pathway leaves few other surfaces for condensation. Is anyone using filters on their tubes?

Did I say I was running on min? Just reset screen to make the bowl larger, loaded up and hot the button. Went to turn it up and found I was already on max. On low I can draw and leave the button on the whole time. Same with 1/2 way. I was also noticing what a smooth draw it has. And then it started getting a bit cloggy, so maybe I packed it a bit too tight? I move my hand and it's fine - my finger was plugging the intake on the bottom. It also plugs if it's sitting on a desk when you draw. A couple of weenie rubber feet will fix that up if it's an issue, such as plumbed into water from the desk.

I think it's time to go put some tunes on and contemplate things. The first thing I'm going to contemplate is just how great this unit is. It's pretty much a portable log vape. Just for giggles I pulled the stem out and it also works in the HI heater. So now we have another option for when the power goes out :)

Thanks again to RBT, TKW, MrPeanut, and the Beta Boyz for keeping us regaled and amused while we waited for our magic devices to arrive. I had no doubts it was going to be good, but it's diffisult to explain how good without trying it. I'm really happy with Tt. A buddy's wife in the UK has an Audi TT, which my Scots buddy pronounces as 'Titty'. So I'm gonna cal her Tt while we contemplate other, possibly less slutty, options. Or am I too high to be thinking about these types of things? :whoa:

Maybe 'Baby' is more appropriate? I'm glazed, like a donut, so this is probably the last edit for awhile. Happy cloudage :)

Regular preorder #2 reporting for duty! Took a while for my newly birthed Zion to make it from the frozen tundra of upstate NY to the south end of the Left Coast (9 days via UPS), but alas the moment had arrived and upon opening the package, I quickly realized that my patience had been richly rewarded!
1kQHRNJ.jpg

Note that the package, while secure and undamaged, consisted of bubble wrapped items in a 6x6" corrugated box so be careful unpacking and check all folds and corners for any screens or other goodies that you might miss in your excitement! Speaking of excitement, in my haste to document my Zion's arrival with some pics, one short stem rolled off the edge of a cushion and fell less that 2 feet onto a thin carpet and shattered! -- so my advice, make sure and order some extras. RBT also mentioned that FC contributor @Ed's TnT may eventually come up with a Zion compatible wood stem so looks like I'd be a good candidate for one of those as well!

After a quick initial inspection and tally I threw the included LG HE4 batteries on my XTAR V4 charger. One read out @ 4.2v to start and the other 3.5v. While waiting for the batteries to be topped off, I oggled the smooth organic lines of the Zion and drooled in eager anticipation. When they were fully charged, the first ended up adding only 61 mAh to the charge while the other took 1149 mAh.
H4V7ARS.jpg
f6pQ2Rl.jpg

Lacking any documentation included on these first couple (I know *Snacks is working up something for RBT), I jumped right in, loaded a couple medium grind pinches of Gorilla Glue #4, hit the power button for 5 seconds or so on "high" and then dialed it down to maybe a 1 on a 0-5 scale and proceeded to inhale. Virtually unrestricted airflow, smooth, absolutely no harshness, cool terpene loaded bliss! After temperature step hitting about 4 times up the scale, I decided to check the ABV and maybe give the load a stir. As I examined the glass stem, I couldn't see any material! Looking down into the chamber, I could see that I had packed my material too loosely and it had fallen out of the stem and onto the heater screen. No doubt, this is why a mild popcorn taste had developed earlier than I had anticipated. Upon inverting the Zion and pouring out the AVB I noticed uneven darkening (I know, wtf do you expect when burning shit off the heater!). Well, being from the "waste not, want not" school, I flecked the darker bits to the side and reloaded the stem with the remaining AVB (after revisiting the Zion thread here on FC and looking up some of the tips on usage.) I continued vaping for a total of about 8 hits and finished at about 80% power. This time when emptying the stem, the AVB color was all a light, even, golden brown.
XwnKWx8.jpg

After a few hour break (light weight here, not used to all this testing "in the name of science" in the @slcbdc spirit), I loaded (correctly this time) and waited for some aromatic bliss to ensue -- but nothing! I thought perhaps that I was over anxious and hadn't given enough time to preheat so held the power button down for another 10 and then 20 seconds but still nothing. I pulled the batteries and put them on the charger where they showed 0v. After about 3 hours or so of charging they both indicated a charge of 2700+ mAh.

ZGmO2vi.jpg

In the interim, I put in some Samsung INR18650 25R's that I also had and drifted once again towards vape nirvana, temp stepping my way up the dial, exchanging short stem for long, low temp to high -- all working flawlessly with AVB finished off once again to a light golden brown.

I checked in with RBT and he wasn't sure what may have triggered my premature battery drain but speculated that it might have been moisture in the unit or a power button that might have got stuck in the "on" position. I didn't notice or detect either, but am happy to report that in subsequent use of the same batteries over the following several days, all seems to be functioning fine.
5eKyd6o.jpg

Congratulations to RBT, his henchman TKW, Mr. Peanut and the alphabet boys (you alpha and beta testers that contributed so much). RBT, you've come up with a WINNER! Can't wait to work on refining my technique to obtain whatever result I'm in the mood for at the time. That being said, I can assure you that the learning curve is intuitive and not a steep one. Even with no instruction and somewhat limited vaping experience, this bad boy had me in the clouds within moments of inserting the batteries. Now it's just about finesse. Later I will probably try with some water tools for kicks but for now, I'm fine using it straight up. I have to tell you, even though I am sensitive to harsh, hot air, the draw on the short stem is amazingly cool and smooth and with the long stem, even more so.

If you haven't already . . . jump on the bandwagon, this baby's on fire!

Nice first use writeup dude!

(Looking forward to @killick's soon too!)

Yes hopefully the quick cards will be ready for inclusion soon, as things are really ramping up!

One tip for loading by the pinch or pour (basically nonstraw method), with screens stock style even with extra space, load the stem upside down (I actually use @Ratchett's scoop n poke quite a bit when I'm home, the perfect vape tool), then load into the Zion by inverting the Zion down onto it. Keep it like that until you begein to inhale a bit, then lower it and finish the hit. The load will be firmly packed in the stem now, unless you choose to stir, in which case just repeat that again to reload after stirring (sometimes I top it off with a bit of green towards the end too). I also like to rotate my stem in the Zion after each hit, though it actually does heat very evenly either way.

Glad others are already picking up on the versatility and appreciating the sheer power! But yes be careful out there with initial testing folks, gotta pace yourself, it ain't easy but it sure is funnnnnnnn

This is intriguing. But this shouldn't have been able to happen with the production units... I hope you didn't permanently damage your two cells. A reading of 0V is definitely not good, I would have discarded them tbh... I would advise you to carefully watch this battery pair over the next week. If you feel that they get warm during use, don't take risks.

How comes you managed to discharge them so low? Even on my alpha that has no real protection circuit, vapor more or less stops way before I can drain the cells fully (in fact below 3.4V, I have a power drop, but my unit is not set to the same voltage so it's meaningless to compare)

Looks like it's T break time till the Zion pulls into the station. Not long now!

I only had about 8 hits (not loads) out of brand new RBT supplied batteries, fresh off the charger so I in no way expected them to be totally depleted and wouldn't have consciously run them that low. Obviously not normal, but I don't know what to make of it. RBT asked me to see if this situation repeated itself and so I threw them back on the charger and after running 2 bowls (about 18 hits) using the same batteries, they're reading out at 4.1v & 4.15v and I haven't noticed them running hot. Thanks for the comment and advice, I know you're one of the battery gurus on here and I appreciate any insight you may have.

Just wanted to pop in and say that I'm really happy to hear that some of my friends are beginning to get their production units. Being a part of the beta team has been a ton of fun, & I have enjoyed every minute of it as ive run countless grams of cannabis I have run through this thing since this past summer.

Kudos to RBT for pushing through to get this one right, and I'm greatly looking forward to having a production unit to go alongside my #6 beta.

@mindful1 Great post! Looks like a lovely home you are sharing with your lovely wee dragon! :)

@Shit Snacks I edited the post above a few times as I got progressively more warped, so you might want to reread it. A few additions to it here. No pix yet cause I'm a bit of a slacker, but Baby has a birthmark that she'll be showing off soon enough. She's a bit shy, but in that cutesy, rawkabilly kinda way I like :)

So that was really fun test! A couple of wierd things - I hit the button on the Xtar charger to change between views, and it went black. No lights at all. Unplugged, replugged, hit buttons, no lights. Pulled batteries and put them in the Nitecore D2 and the display says 'full', so off we went.

So just now I get back, after running 3 or 4, maybe 5 :hmm: sessions earlier, and I do a nice long preheat while filling a stem, straw-style, and get set for a large rip, and nada. A slight bit of warmth, but thats it. So pop those batts back into the d2 and one shows higher than the other (shoulda wrote it down. Oopsie).

On the very last pull I let it run a bit longer on full, while drawing, and charred a bit. In my defence I filled the bowl to 113% and horsed on the power while in 'gigglepig' mode. I really should have stopped a couple of draws before, but hey! It's pretty darn fun! I haven't really felt 'high' in quite some time, but this is doing it for me. "High" in a 'back of neck tingles', and I start suddenly smiling while looking at something useless, or thinking about reading a few more pages of 'The Complete Far Side', but don't have to actually open it to start giggling kinda way...

Anyone that is waiting is in for a very nice surprise indeed, and thanks again to the entire team, including @KeroZen for his battery magic I almost forgot about... (did I miss anyone else? Anyone? Bueller?)

Pix soon, when I can focus again... Now I get it :haw:

@killick ur killing me! LMAO and now you've inspired me to name my Zion "wee dragon" but in Korean, making it something like, "Ja-geun Yong". Why . . . cuz. And now, while I was planning on leaving Ja-geun Yong alone for the evening, after reading of your rollicking good time, I may need a session before calling it a night (and I did just get back an hour ago from a 6 mile hike in the hills around my place) so feel like rewarding myself ---right?!:ko:

My Zion rages on! This thing can conserve but i love it too much. Been pouring out a mound of ABV every damn day from my ash tray! More videos to come.

Well I suk at spellin' two... and... No Vape got You! (Vape Nazi Voice) lmao

Yes, @phattpiggie I am having the best time rolling out these initial units. Customer#1... C1 for short is an avid vapist who doesn't participate on FC so I will be dropping some post for him. He started with a PAX to kick tobacco and moved on into the MF for MJ. His collection includes minivap, Firewood3, Elevape and now his Zion. His knowledge of the vaporizer technology (specifically convection) is staggering with a focus on vapor path purity. The depth and breadth of knowledge of the Z-Team continues to grow and my plan to "stack the deck" with FC customers early on to ensure expert users of this infant technology is really paying off.

Hear is his email sent to me yesterday detailing his first experiences...

I started writing this email a couple or more hours ago and continued to update it along the evening... Too hard to make questions or start discussions, that will have to wait for now just a chaotic report of first Zion successes:

Sipping on Yen right now, and I'm already totally wrecked! It really smashes the face, the effects are totally something different from what I ve experienced and I'm having a hard time writing something meaningful .... Mission achieved! I don't know where to start, or what I wanted to say atm....
Ok, lets put yen apart a moment and restart:
I already tried some stems in a very short amount of time, it is absolutely the fastest and more user friendly vape not only concerning the heat but also the loading...
Left apart other glass for now I need to take confidence with stock stems, after some trials I'm vaping through this now: loaded a full long stem with straw method and packed with enough pressure to keep it there when turned up down, started very low, 1/8 turn from 0, the best method for me seem to preheat few sec and then make some small puffs until vapor production, then steady flow for another few sec.. Medium clouds for at least 4-5 hits, very tasty and with a warm feeling.. And very smashed too I would say. I removed the stem and put in its place its time for dinner...
Ok come back, first impressions, beauty of the design apart
Its everything very easy and natural, the stem system has a clean design that is functional and extremely fast to operate! I noticed however that with a very loose package the free airflow overcomes a bit my capabilities to keep it steady (it'salso a lack of technique from my side I think) thus becoming too hot in the throat... For now I tried only dry stems, and the vapor was in all on the hot side, not intended as bad thing, it is very satisfying indeed! And with a packed stem the airflow is more how I like, the hits are thick and dense with a very distinctive taste of high temp convection, remembers with given distinctions the firewood, but cleaner at low and hotter stronger at high, I didn't get any wood or metal taste, just a bit of metallic when I hit a stem that was empty by mistake...

In the meantime I was writing I increased the power by another 1/8, and took another 7-9 hits, lost the count writing... The taste is decreasing but no burnt at all...
Effects are absurd, very very strong! Maybe the hits were, not so many but dense, and the material used just a pretty standard 0.1 bowl!!
Another 1/8 turn up and here the clouds are huge.. After some puffs I felt some burnt and infact there is a little bit of dark on the top... Maybe increased too much, pr too slow draw it... Until now I never stirred, just removed stems between power increases!
Stir, another 1/8 more power ( 1/8 left to go) and few huge clouds before dropping, I try instinctively to slow down and increase temp, too much as before and get some burnt taste... No real burning, just charring but everything looks very brown and powder like... I think it should be enough, for me for sure jeez what a stone, really I feel the muscles of the face having one of the highest stone feeling of my life... Sorry no idea how to write it better now...

I loaded directly the stem with half as before and wanted to restart but no chance, I cannot take it now!

Previous stems just aspired and not packed did not give such satisfying results, more difficult to get the correct temp, or getting very wispy hit or very big ones trying yo reduce speed, giving a bit of charring... Stirring helps but it seems a better option to pack more and get this little bit of conduction from glass, feed for thoughts..

This is definitively the strongest vape I have used, it seems that the high continues to grow even after a good 20 minutes from finishing!
Incredible work my friend, my biggest congratulations to you and all the rest of team! The zion is really a finely designed piece of engineering and its journey has just started, I'm even a bit scared, Yen might get my too high in the next days, feel like going back to 15 with first joints on the lake!!!

End of transmissions for today, need some rest!

Good morning @mindful1 I would be more than happy to give this piece a try, just need something to work with is all. I spoke about it with @RastaBuddhaTao but its been quiet some time since then. I have to do something for the supreme, seems like this unit could use something similar in form, not a problem at all really. I am always about doing new stuff and getting out of the box, either of you wanna send some wood my way I am all over it guys!

Awesome Ed. I will drop the glass mouthpiece and a few mating mouthpieces in the mail to you this weekend. I know you are super busy these days so I appreciate you making the time... mostly because I really really want... damn VAS

So, I just finished the progress update on the www. The short story is that we are ramping up suppliers at a rapid pace and starting to set up manufacturing sites which will accelerate the commercialization process. Truth is, we really don't have that many orders in front of us so perfecting things now at a slow and responsible pace will allow us to really roll out production of flawless units free of concern soon. Last but not least a FC give-away program for the month of February retroactive to all $269+ customers... more to come.

Thanks all for your continued patience as we continue to stay laser focused on getting Zions out the door. At this point, it's put up or shut up... and we have every intention of showing up on this scene in a big way. I must have said this 100 times by now my friends... don't let being burned before keep you away from the beauty of this flame... and I have the feeling that with the reports now coming out the line is going to start to get long.

For all you pre-orders suffering from VAS. The May and June Zions will go out this weekend and next week we will start to work on July which should take 2-4 weeks to complete. August Zions will be the start into the 200 unit build and if all continues to go well with initial unit reliability and performance we should catch up to current orders and be at full tilt be early summer... and then @TheDudeNextDoor and I will be kickin' it at the shows with the new single battery. I think 2016's gonna be a good year :)
