Right now both my nano and UD are running hot, safe to say Im having some log problems.

If I could make one humble suggestion, it's that they should reintroduce wood stems. I love @Ed's TnT wood stem with his HUGE SS brushing. It actually goes around my standard core heater. I hope Underdog sell that design full time because it does such a fantastic job flavor and function wise. Not that I don't fully get into the glass, SS, and Nylon stems they already make, but I also enjoy having a wood stem or two with my Dog.

Good morning and thank you for the kind words bro! I have been in talks with Dave @underdog to introduce a line of wooden stems for the UD using the UD OEM SS tips as well as the ones I make that have the bushing that goes around the UD heatport. I know the Nano stems fit the UD as they are but want to make this line be a little different in style to match Daves wonderful workmanship for the UD. I finally have someone in the shop that seems to be getting the handle of turning, I am impressed by his work and hope he hangs in there with me. This would really free me up to introduce an UD stem line through my website. Pls hang in there with me!

How's the Nano running Hot ? Can't you just adjust the temp down with the dial?
I tend to drop my logs alot, especially my nano since I use it so much. Not too sure exactly whats going on in there but after enough times somthing becomes loose and it will need to get sent in to get tightened or it could start to run hot.

Not sure if thats whats going on with my UD aswell but Im assuming it is.

A full VVPS with the works is only 35 and another $12 or so to buy the wire on the UD site. It gives you the most precise temp control you can get as you have a HUGE range from super low 6.V or so to you better not go there 15v. $45 extra for that kind of precision is worth it for such a classy vape.
I am the complete opposite of mikeben here. What temp does my UD run at? Hot enough to vape with. How much do I use? Enough to fill the stem. My Dog's plugged right into the wall, where I leave it most days. This is part of the appeal for me- very freeform, almost reminds me of my old combustion days, where'd I pack a bowl and take a couple of hits and wander off and repeat as necessary. Now I fill my NonG and hit it until it won't, repacking as needed at my leisure. Great stuff!

So for me- you want a Log you get the Dog! No I am sure they are all good, but the Dog was best for me and it will work without any of the glitches the Crafty has yet to work out. I mean temp control by blue tooth is interesting, but I prefer reaching over to my VVPS dial and turning it without thinking any more about it. Hell I am turning 40 my phone isn't even smart, I work at home, and enjoy collecting records, books, and DVD, some video games, and vaping. I like being at home so yes I have one of thos enice sounding CLEAR landlines, and a really neat thing called a turntable that doesn'y play digital samples of music, but actual music.
And this is where I totally agree. I'm a bit more of a technocrat than he apparently, but there are some things that are just better in analog. :)

For the sake of science, I decided to time how long my UD actually takes to heat from a cold start. I unplugged before I went to work this morning. Local high temp today was 21F. Came home 10 hours later, plugged back in at 6:17. At 6:23 (when I remembered I was supposed to be keeping time!) it was hot enough to reflect heat when I blew into it. By 6:25 I was rocking and rolling (again, I was the holdup, not the UD!). In my highly subjective, biased opinion, that's super fricking fast.

I've got an air core dog and a vvps for it, and they've been off for a few days while i've been out of town.

Came home tonight, fired it back up at 13v, set the timer on my phone for 5 minutes, went and got the mail, came back, set the vvps back to 11.5v, ground up some lemon OG, sucked it up into a thick-walled glass stem, and took a pretty significant hit. As I let it back out, my timer went off to remind me to go see if it was ready to hit. :freak:

They heat up pretty fast now.

Hey all!

This thread ended up having a lot of useful discussion about the Underdog, so I figured I would come back here with my take on it, in case it's helpful to anyone else considering a log vape purchase.

In short: Incredible, definitely my favorite desktop vape and absolutely worth it. A log will save you money and is a joy to own.

Some things about this vape that I love
  1. A very unique little vape with it's own personality. It fits in my hand just right. The craftsmanship is fantastic. A very sturdy, solid feeling product. The minute I picked it up out of the box I was grinning, just a joy to hold and look at. It's gonna last, I can tell.
  2. It's versatile. The nylon stem/NonG is perfect for big hits with small pinches of herb, and the glass equivalents are great for bigger bowls without a refill. Do make sure to grind your herb properly, though. Really happy I went with the underdog for the nylon stems alone.
  3. It definitely heats up quick (especially if you left it plugged in to a dimmer set low), and I'm happy to say it runs plenty hot. I did pick up the dimmer from Amazon to turn it down when I want some lower temp hits, and to extend it's lifespan since I leave it on all day, but it's not needed.
  4. This vape is AWESOME used with a bong! Big, smooth and efficient hits all day. Huge clouds that surprise me every time because it's like inhaling air. Every hit whitewalls my bong, and with so little weed. Crazy. Probably my favorite thing about it, it's just so much fun and blows my mind every time at the size of the hits.
  5. A selling point for me was that it had no LEDs. It definitely is much more aesthetically pleasing that way.
  6. I could think of a few more things, but in the end it's just really enjoyable to use. I'll probably never use my Q again.

Personal gripes
  1. Direct draw hits aren't too harsh at first, but doing a large session with direct draw only at the temperature I like is pretty uncomfortable. Because of that, I use direct draw when I want just a quick couple of hits.
  2. The ends of the glass DD stem/GonG I received are very uneven, so the fit to the heater core is lopsided/loose. It's annoying to have it move around so much while you use it. Which it will do, unless you're very careful about how you hold it (also annoying to do) but it's still functional.
  3. I'm nitpicking since I hardly adjust the temp at all, but I miss a digital temperature display and knowing the exact temp of the heating core. I'm sure I'll get used to it quickly though, and again appreciate the lack of lights.

And of course, the owners are super friendly people and a pleasure to do business with.
Can't think of much else to say other than buy one! Hope this helped anyone considering a log vape. Underdog, nano, HI - can't go wrong (though I'm sticking with the Underdog! - and maybe a HI one day).

Now to save up to afford an even more unique one... :D

Biggest gripe about the UD for me would be its resale value. I mean you'll get killed unless it's one of the more affordable special deals. We're talking about a hundred dollar hit right off the lot...

Not a bad vape at all by any stretch, but compared to a Nano or HI in any possible way?? It just can't I'm afraid. :\

I got the holiday deal, think the price is great for that. Yeah the price is high if you go for a custom one but it's practically an art piece at that point (heady vape? lol). I've never resold anything, though. Doubt I'm going to start now either. Don't know why it can't be compared to a Nano performance wise though? Pretty much the same thing except for the stems + built in temp control. No clue about HI vs these two.

Considering a UD and Nano, what makes the Nano superior vs UD?

I think that underdog vapes carry reasonable resale value, but I can't imagine wanting to sell mine. Perhaps to fund the purchase of a rarer wood one worked in an interesting way but even then I think I'd just save up for it and keep the older one around too.

How important is resale value? I've never considered that as a factor in buying a vape and didn't realize that matters to some vape buyers.

I have all 3 main logs and they are all good i their own way. I don't think you can go wrong no matter what you get.
Right! Rarely will we see a log vape in the FC Classifieds, and when we do they are nearly always sold not that much below retail, even the much older ones. And just because someone may be selling at a really good deal that doesn't mean it's not worth much more. Just jump in man with any one of them or you'll drive yourself nuts splitting hairs.

HEY there FC. Darn you guys, I just bought a brand new Crafty after many days of lurking. You guys weren't kidding about how fantastic it is though!! But I've only had it for about a week, and now I can't help but want another vape (I've gotta stay away from here). Mainly because the price is just so good, and it seems like log vapes are the real kings of efficiency.

My question is: the main difference between the products themselves is the use of AC or DC right? The way I see it after doing much researching: I buy a "Holiday Sale Vape" from Underdog for $158, throw a $7 12V dimmer switch on there, and I have temp control and equivalent performance to the e-nano for $20 less. Is there anything wrong with that idea?

Thanks!
$20?

Get a NANO!

End of conversion.

Money is a non-issue with log vapes. They are all super affordable, especially when you consider herb efficiency and how much dough you'll save... + or - $20 bucks is irrelevant. HI/Underdog/Nano/and the soon-to-be Vapor Bomb will all get the job done way beyond. Take it from one who's been around the log vape block more than a few times. I have them all, and then some... see my sig. Just flip a coin and be happy wherever it lands. They are all GREAT, or drive yourself nutzo splitting nonsense hairs!!! Fishing for a consensus of opinion is a total waste of time. Jump in!

Don't forget HomeGrownLogs!!! Now that I'm in the right thread I'll reiterate my stance. Which is that theres no point arguing because they all kick ass and I aspire to own at least one from each of them. It all comes down to personal preference from there. They're all amazing vapes made by great people so I won't pick one camp when they all lead to cloud 9!

I'm only familiar with the underdogs, but I have purchased one for myself, one for my folks (who still do not partake but are very much enjoying the aromacups), and recieved a mini for a poem I contributed. I love them all and each are ready to go in 10 minutes or less!

I also would endorse the stainless steel and nylon stems. Boy do they cloud up and roast evenly!
