newbie - first impressions

...my partner and I played it safe and bought an inexpensive ibliss lava to get started
our first impression is that we need to use a far greater quantity of herb to equal the experience we are accustomed to using traditional methods
we sought advice from the retailer, and as far as we know we are using the device correctly
however, on exhaling there is little or no vapor - no "clouds"
we would really like to persevere, so any advice or suggestions you can give will be put to good use
thanks!

Since giving up smoking and taking up vaporizing the amount of herb I use has dropped by more than half and I'm getting just as happy each time. Most of the reports here will state the same. I think your vaporizer is the issue.

May I suggest also reading the smoking v. vaporizing thread in the references tab/area? You may be experiencing a "withdrawal ", if you will, from the carcinogens/crappola in smoke that do have an effect on the body. For me the carcinogens/smoking crappola made me tired and loopy. YMMV.

A good vape device is a must! The forums are full of great options at different price points. The Flight Box is often an intro vape for flower, but some find it fiddly. I spent more to get the Haze for my first vape. The Underdog is a slightly more affordable in a desktop style vape. I almost got the Solo instead of the Haze, which is cheaper and lots of people swear by it. So many choices....search the forums for the many posts by other "newbies" who have asked "which vape" for ideas. Good luck!

Hey, Welcome to FC!!!

As mentioned by all of the fantastic, intelligent previous Members posts.

Get yourself a Reputable Vaporizer....
I HIGHLY recommend a cosmetically damaged Da Buddha Vaporizer from 7th Floor , known as "Seconds" on their Website or hit up @stickstones ,he can personalize your order with years of Vaping experience advice to go with the purchase
*Most likely you can land this heavy hitter for 150$ or less*

Mine paid for itself in a month, cut usage from 2+grams joints per day to 0.75-0.3 per day!

I had tried a handful of vaporizers before I bought my DBV, and I simply watched a couple tutorial videos on YouTube when I bought the DBV...

My second hit of my very first session...

... I finally got what all the hype about vaporization was all about.

You also should consider quitting smoking completely during the transition...

Good luck... We are all here to help you ....

What the F is an ibliss lava?

Lots of good suggestions here. You should decide if you want a desktop for mostly vaping at home or a portable for taking everywhere. You may think the everywhere vape is the best thing regardless, but if you vape at home mostly then you may want a plug vape so constant power is not a concern.

Some more suggestions to research:

Desktops - e-nano by epicvape, hands free whip desktop by Vaporbrothers

Portable- Arizer solo or air

Non-electric portable- Lotus vape or vapman

Regardless, stop combusting for heaven's sakes!

It's because of the device you are using. It is a cheap Chinese rebrand of many other vapes by many different names..imho not very good vape..I would get a better device and u will get better effects..
I can use a cheap portable and get quite a good effect. In fact, I've gotten a great high from the old homemade lightbulb vape. If a device can produce vapor it can get you high, so don't assume someone is disappointed just because they didn't spend enough $ on their vape.

The OP didn't say for sure that this was his 1st venture into vaping, but that's the way the post reads to me. I believe it's likely he's experiencing the 'something's missing' effect. He's missing those sedative smoke byproducts that smokers assume are part of the cannabis high. If there's a high tolerance level as well, the disappointment in vapor is usually even greater.

It's certainly the case that it's much easier to convert a smoker to a vaper if you provide huge vapor hits. The EVO is what I use to convince smokers of the joys of vaping, but that's jumping into the deep end. Whatever you use to produce vapor, you need to stick with it and give up combustion so you'll figure out the difference between the clean high of vapor, vs. the polluted mixed chemical concoction of smoke. Reducing your tolerance level is also a plus IMO.

...first of all, these responses have far exceeded any expectations i may have had. i am beyond grateful. clearly, i came to the right place for help.
i'm guessing this is an american forum?
i think the ibliss lava is distributed by a canadian company and, yes, i understand that it is a knock-off of the kandypen device - k-vape, i think. the retailer is quite reputable, and has been very helpful, so returning it shouldn't be an issue.
i have thought all along that the home device should be a non-portable, desktop plug in, and that we should also have a portable device for outings.
it will take me a while to sort through all the suggestions here (as well the the ones to follow) and to do some research on my own.
my main concern was that, in general, vaping requires using more product than traditional methods, but the message i am getting here is that that is not the case. that is indeed encouraging.
i look forward to exploring this forum and learning as much as possible about the technology, and the methodology.
my partner and i are seniors, and we are also singers, so protecting our throats and lungs is vital.
peace!

Or vapes that aren't proven to be safe either like triple knocked off vapes like op stated..I wasn't bashing them just giving my opinion on where to start first is get good device then go down the road of smoking effects vs vaping and all that..I can get high off a soda can but geez why would I do that..the op can get a much better device to get started with for very cheap..not total crapola..geez some people are quick to quote another's post instead of just offering opinion of their own and being at that.

What was your normal conbustion methods? I was a heavy combuster and started with a Titan-1 which I think is the original k-vape? Anyways, I enjoyed it and found it fun but I could easily Vape through 2-4 bowls at .3-.4 a load and I thought you needed more to get High. I slowly worked out that vaping sneaks up on you, and you soon learn how to attack it, and even with an inefficient large bowl conduction vape like that can offer a nicer high off less weed than roing joints.

I mostly smoked waterfalls for a long time before getting my vape and there is just no way the Titan would be me near that high off that little weed. If you normally smoke bongs then you need to look at a more efficent vaporizer to beat the usage results. If you are on a budget try something from the vaporgenie line, cheap, efficent and hugeeee clouds and damaging effects!
After a bowl or two in that (which you can load with much less than a typical bong hit and get 2+ big Vapor hits) you'll at least know if vaping is for you, much better bench mark than what you are rocking current.

If you're stuck with the pen for a bit, try a day or two tollerance break, then grind you're weed very find as it prefers this, pack it reasonable tight and put it on the highest setting at 420f (I think that's the highest unless the copy is different) you should be able to get 12+ joint style hits off a .4 fine grind.
Could also be a vape issue, bought 4 Titans, one didn't get anywhere near as hot as the other with very little visble exhale.

...we've always been roll-yer-own types and, like many of you, have come to realize that it makes sense to switch to a method that is less harmful to the throat and lungs - as i mentioned, we are both singers.
i am hopeful that the retailer who sold us the ibliss lava will be forthcoming, but the advice from you, and others here, will probably prove to be most helpful. looking into vaporgenie products to see if they are available in canada..

If you are in Canada, I highly recommend an Arizer Air or the Solo as they are a Canadian based company with many happy customers.

Welcome to the forum! I believe a solid home unit is a great way to start. I second the notion of a log style vape (Underdog and E-Nano are both readily available). They are easy to use and maintain and also help conserve your product. You'll fine all the info you could ever want here. Hope you find the right vale for you and your partner.

Haven't read all the thread but the choices are overwhelming. Where I live there was only one vape available - the original Davinci. I did a little research and ordered the Ascent, never tried anything else but I'm really happy with it. No big clouds but that's a Plus in my view... vapor still does the job. Only really works with dry materials but the ceramic/glass system and long battery life make it a winner IMHO. +1 for the Ascent.
