The Extreme-Q Vaporizer

Hey guys, I've been using my EQ quite frequently lately, and I've noticed that sometimes it sounds like the fan stops for just a second, then pick right back up again. Sometimes it'll do it every few seconds for a little bit, then run fine, or it'll do it once and then not again for a while. Should I be concerned? Everything else is working fine though, I'm loving it! It's definitely my daily driver right now. My FM has taken a backseat, and I don't have iso to clean my pieces with right now. So I've been UFO'ing it up with the MFLB UFO and a coffee mug. Gets me nice and toasty.

Hey guys

Came back with some more questions to help me decide.
I've been reading a lot of review (some of them will be shit ofc) and I saw some blog where they said that the EQ clouds were rather thin when compared to other similar vapes.
I'd also like to ask about the EQ hands free capability. Is a lot of stirring needed? Isn't that too troublesome? With the MFLB all I have to do is tap tap tap and tubmle but I'd rather have a home vaporizer I can just use at will.

I'm not planning to do any water cooled vaping at all (at least at first). Also I'm not really that interested in the baloons anymore.. Considering all this do you still recommend the EQ or is there a better vape out there for me?

I had a brief hesitation before. A slight whirr sound. Then it ramps up fine. If I have a setup with dodgy air intake , that will mess with the fan keeping up.
It makes me uncomfortable when it does happen. It is a bladeless fan and I find a thorough breakdown and cleaning does wonders. Also see if there is any buildup on the
screen of the heater cover. Take everything off the EQ and run on say 230 on F3 for 5 min or greater. Sometimes that is enough to bring it back.

I have mentioned before my thoughts about leaving the unit plugged in full time and having the EQ warm up. Still believe it is a factor. Mine has been behaving real well being left plugged in 24/7 with it at a constant 200C when I am at home. I do think any drain or any brief shortage of power causes the PCB to behave weird. Like the first problem I had with my first unit.

So should you be concerned? I would a least do the simple rundown first. If it happens enough times, Perhaps do a full disassemble and cleaning if you are comfortable with that or at least try the power options I mentioned and see if that has an impact. My theory is a drain of power or if the EQ has to work a little harder for that instance can cause that 'whirr' hesitation.

The EQ has two methods for a sesh, the elbow pack and the bowl (cyclone) pack. The elbow pack extracts a lot thicker then the cyclone. But the cyclone is for more casual sessions. Where 'sipping' the vapor is preferred over a hard draw (a 'rip'). In a cyclone sesh, It helps to stir occasionally or if you draw hard enough, it kind of mixes itself.

The clouds question is a little subjective. A little bit of a YMMV situation. But yes it holds it own with stock parts. There are a few single purpose vapes that do that one thing extremely well, But for the price and it's versatility, it is still the best bang for your buck going around. If you get the @DDave kit and the EQ, then you are in the higher end of performance. With mod parts, you can get some great results. But it works fine.

Another factor to consider when comparing all types of vapes is conduction vs convection. You can get thicker clouds through conduction, but purer vapor with convection heat. I bought my EQ because I wanted a glass convection vape that works well. But a conduction Stainless Steel vape like your UD's and E-nano's will have that surface area designed to do the work. I already own 3 conduction vapes. So I bought an EQ and modded everything. Extreme convection.

As far as ease of use. I have my own routine with my setup. One you know how to mushroom cap a worn elbow screen, you have covered the hardest part.
How well you fill and seat an elbow pack will affect the thickness of the vapor. I fill my caps separately and swap them out as needed.
My EQ with my personal setup works great at 200c. I did buy the @DDave kit and a few select glass parts myself. But it works just like a poor man's CloudEvo.

If you are hesitant about getting a desktop, Some people swear by the Arizer Solo. If you are looking for the portable equivalent of the EQ. Fill a stem to the amount you like. Drop the stem. Draw.

I will try to pool all the 'how to's' for everybody. But for now you can borrow form this. To do a cleaning, you don't have do the steps to remove the heater cover.
If this is still to much like work. Then just take the bottom off the EQ and gently brush everything loose and give it a go. But a full cleaning is good to know about in a worst case scenario where you have to RMA it back tothe seller. :ugh:
@Dr. Soxhlet sig and how he upgraded his heater cover.

Thanks that helped a lot!
I had been reading and I was interested in the elbow pack. Am I right to think it's a very efficient way of using your herbs?
Basically what I'm most interested in the sesh part of it. Of course I like the possibility of acquiring a vape that also fills bags or even something like the vapir rise which seems to be great for when I have some friends over. What I do place first is how good it is for me in my day-to-day vaping.

Since I got my mflb I managed to quit combustion for short periods of time only. The mflb is great and it actually helps me conserve my herbs (money is very important 'round here) but I do find myself lacking something with more "oowp". The fact that I barely exhale any visible vapor with the mflb feels lacking because it's something I've gotten used to by smoking.

I've been reading about a lot of vaporizers already but I still don't feel like I'm informed enough to make a choice yet. I've considered the EQ, the Air and the Solo the most lately. The Solo should probably have been my first vape purchase but I ended up getting the mflb. The only thing that makes me not jump the gun for it is the whole Home Vap + Portable Vap combo but it may be wrong to think that. I've even considered just giving up and buying a Power Adatper for my box.

Basically how would you compare the EQ seshs and hits to the Solo/Air? And the mflb, if you've ever owned/tried one?

Thanks in advance

P.s.: Roughly how many hits from an elbow pack if you're not rushing it?

I don't own a Solo/Air or a MFLB. But I own 3 conduction vapes that perform so differently from each other, And contrast and compliment each other for that matter, that I have developed somewhat of a wider sense of what conduction can offer. It is hard to get a good design for a portable convection vape. So to me the choice became - good well rounded convection for the desktop because of the power demands, convection heat for the portables. (3 speed fan, 18mm, IR remote so I can actually program the sensor. Robust) Makes sense to me. :nod:EQ has all the bases covered under $200. Plus I'm always reminding someone to buy from an authorized seller in case you have to RMA.

You can experiment with the EQ's heat range and get good with elbow packing. Find a draw speed you like. Calibrate and then find the "oowp" you are looking for. I got the 'thwiss' of a bowl hit with my setup. Some like the 'thwack' of bongs, so they get water tools for that same effect. :lol:Take that combustion.

Herb gardener...
I posted somewhere a while ago, wondering if I would realise if I'd combusted slightly, people assured me that if I had combusted, I would know...

Well last night (day 3 of new bubbler), with a nice hash sandwich basket, at 235 in the eq, I slightly combusted...

I'd already had a massive lung full at 220 before...

Instantly all my @DDave glass and screens stunk like stale ash, I always thought it would smell like combusting herbs, not old pub ash tray...

I instantly soaked all my stuff in iso and scrubbed, then blasted with very hot water, all is good now...

Won't be vaping past 230 again...it's only caus I had hash in there, I would never normally vape that high, my eq never saw above 215 till the water tool arrived...

@mecker the difference between a solo and eq is massive, an amount that the solo will string out for 10 mins, can be instantly extracted in 1 hit with the eq,
This makes a big difference to the high you recieve in my opinion.. the delivery is so hard and fast, it gets you to a place that you would never reach sipping a solo...
Thats my experience anyway, some may disagree....

@mecker it is very much like the ever classy @CuckFumbustion states YMMV. I own a Air & a EQ & love them both for different reasons. I did post this when asked about the EQ & Air

I say heavier hitter in the purest sense of delivering significantly more actives per hit. If load the EQ with .1 inside the elbow I can hit it in one big fat rip at 210c. Likewise if I load .1 in my Air GonG it will take me at least 3 pulls to extract to the same extent as the EQ even with both machines set at 210c.

It really depends on what you are after. Are you looking for a strong desktop that will have a lot of variation & ability to experiment get a EQ or DBV. If you want a jack of all trades you can cruise around with or want to switch full time to vaping I recommend getting a Solo or Air so you can carry it with you & have no excuse to blaze up like a ignorant cockhead.

LOL mine lives on 230c my EQ loves it . Thats how you get those fat single rip .1 extractions that leave oneself in the zone. When that DDave 18mm wand is too hot to touch shit gets very real with the rips & old mates couch lock, pass out rock up with the beer :)

That is true but no matter what I find my first full stem of the day in my Air gets me more medicated P4P than anything else. I may vape another g or 2 in the EQ but that first .1 gets me going strong. I will admit to hitting a .15 EQ elbow at 230c with a morning coffee resulted is Dr Vape prescribing bed rest .

Bought this off of a funky hippy head shop that is going out of business. It looks like lab glass. Do not know what the "Q" is for. So, is it safe to use? Or was I a horse's hinder for buying it? Any insight on this piece would be of help. TX

Didn't want to post this here first, because it was a little questionable just what I bought. or if it was safe?:hmm: It's a Büchner flask that I bought from some hippy head shop going out of business. Now I'm looking at lab glass for answers. :haw: Yes, I got rid of the rubber hose and switched to silicone tubing. Took a perc form a broken piece and attached it to the long tube in the pic above with some silicone magic. Need to get a silicone plug to replace the rubber. Maybe a special downstem that works well with the bottom heavy shape? Found this article a little reassuring. ->3 Reasons Why You Should Start Using Lab Beakers In the Kitchen.

Until Tax returns, It's lab study with this.:peace:

That's fucking awesome @CuckFumbustion . You could make an adapter & use a 18mm diffuser stem for a unique piece for the lab.
As so it was done. Already took there stem and connected it to the stem off of a broken perc I had. The bottom of the per now sits about 1/4 inch from the bottom of the "Q". Gave it the ole EQ pressure test. I just run the fan on all 3 settings and watch how well the bubble action goes.

@CuckFumbustion that's an interesting read, who new Pyrex is lower quality outside Europe. If you want borosilicate Pyrex you have to buy from Europe. ..
Never sure where I made mention of that? :hmm:I did link to some literature. Or were you informing me of this? Worth mentioning to me tho.Thanks.
I was questioning the "Q" because of my lack of familiarity with it more than anything. If it was used for chemicals, then it would be even more suspect. Hence my hesitation for coming out with it as a functional piece. But if I passed that on to you somehow. Please point out where I may have conveyed that. I'm just starting to familiarize myself with all types of lab glass. Since I have found an an example that I can take home and run vapor through it.

I was assured by a few FCers this piece was safe in the Cheap, high-quality bubbler thread, even identified what it was and went off about how much I liked it. Check it out.

Loving my EQ so far, just kicks out the vapor, especially with concentrates. I'm trying to vape passion flower herb right now, I guess it's for tea. Have to use a whole g a a time in the cyclone bowl, and only get a few hits before it's gone. But it really helps my anxiety, I had no idea! Has anyone tried the tinture of it, is there something I can look for that's more concentrated but vapable?

@CuckFumbustion in the article about lab beakers....
Thanks I'll reread it. And see what Corning Glass is actually manufacturing these days besides fiber optics. Since, by serendipity, I'm about to delve into Scientific glass.
@CuckFumbustion I believe now you are officially fucked now. I saw that lab glass catalogue & your mind must be racing at the possibilities especially considering how frequently they explain their business is making you custom glass pieces.
Consider it entrapment then. C'mon now, What are the chances of me finding this by accident, in a crowded funky, junky, dingy head shop that is going out of business? I'm convinced that thing was waiting for me to show up. I was about to give up on buying anything but adapters. When lo and behold.:whoa: Well it looks like I'm getting that much closer to resembling my Avatar. :science:
I have an add-on with my browser that will slide show all the images found on a single web page (or all the tabbed pages FTM) . So I google 'gas washing bottles', set the search to images, turned on the slideshow and drool over my coffee cup for at least 10 minutes. :haw: Looking at all the possibilities.
Here is where I had my meltdown on the cheap, high-quality bubbler thread.

The EQ does a fine job at vaping dry teas like your passion flower. Isn't that Passion flower intense or what? I like how it handles those lower temps.
I have been on the ethnobotanical thread getting to know other teas to vape. Lemongrass when done right is amazingly good and has terpenes that might enhance the effects of MJ. Or is fine thing to vape itself. Vaping tea got me to drink tea. I vape than make tea out of what I vaped earlier.
For me Hibiscus, Lemon balm, chamomile and any mint can be an intense form of aromatherapy and have some health benefits. There have been a few times where vaping these alone were enough to relax me.

So, @throwawaytre3s has your EQ been behaving? Are you still getting the occasional hesitation with the fan? Just wondering if it passed or not.
some disagree with me, but my whole smoking life i've believed that i got higher smoking a joint than bonging the same amount. which is why i bought that iceborn thing.
Makes sense to find out what works for you, by comparing it to your old combustion method.
I never got much out of joints myself, but others seemed to get more from it than me. It's how I feel about vaping at 200c for me, and 210 or 185 or whatever you have you for other people.
Granted mine is at MAX 200c, it doesn't have much heat loss due to my insulated setup. I take long lung pulls and don't want to be rushed into the next draw for fear of scorching. But I was all about bowls when I combusted. Already a purist. So that parallel makes sense to me. Bong hitters will go for higher temps and draw at a faster speed to match their ritual and effect.

Just trying to say in my own way, I can see the iceborn - joint connection you are making.

Hey guys, I've been using my EQ quite frequently lately, and I've noticed that sometimes it sounds like the fan stops for just a second, then pick right back up again. Everything else is working fine though, I'm loving it! It's definitely my daily driver right now. My FM has taken a backseat, and I don't have iso to clean my pieces with right now. So I've been UFO'ing it up with the MFLB UFO and a coffee mug. Gets me nice and toasty.

I would be concerned. If you have had it a while, it could be ABV that has fallen down into the fan. I had the fan actually stopped working a couple of times because of that. I carefully disassembled, blew out/cleaned with Q-tip the residue from the fan housing area. Very hard to disassemble/assemble without breaking the ribbon cables.
Be very careful if you decide to do this!

Yep, passionflower is amazing. Huge zing as you mentioned. Don't know why I never knew about it before. A bowl of that, and then a tiny hit of butter that gives me 6-7 blasts, and it's night night time!
Oh, also found out passionflower helps with insomnia, which I also suffer from along with acute anxiety.

The two clips that hold it in place need to be lifted nicely. I pushed the tabs up evenly and gently with the flat end of a tiny screwdriver. Also was mindful of the contacts when I put the cable back into the PCB and handled it as little as necessary. As not to not unnecessarily cause a break in the ribbon cable. Make sure it is facing the correct direction before inserting and pushing the tabs back down. Kinda little like installing a ribbon cable in an old PC? :D
The EQ is like a PC. Has anybody considered getting with the mainboard? Or upgrading the fan? I have thought about a different heater cover.:peace:

EDIT- @Oldvape53 Thats great that you found something natural that works for you. You might want to put a post on the ethno thread I mentioned earlier. They might be able to help you with other options since you are already open to trying passion flower. I've mentioned some positives that I've experienced with other teas there to. Like lemongrass helping me.

@kellya86 Was wondering if you finally got turned on to that. Lemongrass before anything else with terpenes:brow: enhances both. Like the old hippy mango trick.
I have a Flowermate 1.0 that is for teas exclusively. Have a glass adapter for it too. Lemon Balm and Lemongrass go together well. Any mint is good. Hibiscus flowers has a red wine kind of taste.

Have a local blend with apple mint in it that is a-maz-ing. Chamomile has a mellow to it. In the EQ, I can get precise with the lower temps so no scorching if I know what I'm doing.

I'm so glad you have said this as I was thinking this has given me the ability to interpret different flavours from my strains.. and I vaped them in the eq after using the flowermate, so it wasn't contamination...altered taste buds??? Like that thing you eat that gives you the ability to eat lemons...nope, can't remember...

Ha, iv tried he mango trick in my combustion days...Can't say I noticed much...

Iv spent alot of time lately ripping open tea bags for the goodies inside, but I'm finding alot seem to have sugar or some crystal in them too,

Anyway I'm massively enjoying this whole blending new herbs thing,

So thanks @CuckFumbustion for pointing me in this direction...
