So, EDA sent me some photos he received from Alan of his newly turned treasures, and they are just so exquisite I simply had to share them here. I guess the whole process starts with the right choice of wood - and @Snappo certainty pulled it out of the bag this time - each piece was breathtakingly beautiful before Alan even got to work on them..... and the final pieces - well, you can see for your yourselves.

So, without any further ado, I introduce you to Alans' most recent masterpieces........ (drum roll please........):

Stunning or what!!!??

So, in all we have (or I guess EDA has):
  • A Buckeye burl HI with 2-tone Afzelia burl bottom cap
  • 2-tone Afzelia burl TT with Buckeye burl base with the 3 pegs made of buckeye burl, dark Afzelia burl, and 2-toned Afzelia burl
  • 4 all-wooden roasting stems - Buckeye burl, 2-tone Afzelia burl, dark Afzelia burl, and Bethlehem Olive wood
  • 2 twist-a-bowl tubes made of dark Afzelia burl and Olive wood
  • a Micro VVPS with 2-toned Afzelia burl base
  • and last, but certainly not least - a truly awesome spinning top stash jar made from 2-toned Afzelia burl - how cool is that!!!
:leaf:  :leaf:  :leaf:  :leaf:  :leaf:  :leaf:  :leaf:  :leaf:  :leaf:

@Nugg - Thanks for posting the photos. Looking very good.

I'am near my 1st anniversary waiting.

I gifted my old model HI to my brother since it is the only vape he appreciate (still combuster) so now I am waiting again for my turn in line.

While waiting I would like to ask if it would be possible to buy a spare core with the main unit (in order to be able to switch between cores)? Is it easy remplaceable?

The heating element assembly for the glass heater cover won't fit inside of the stainless steel heater cover, and the heating element assembly for the stainless steel heater cover allows too much radiant heat to escape making the wood very hot. It is possible to change the heater cover, but the heater must also be changed. If you are handy with soldering, it is fairly easy. The hold down screw holes are the same for both glass and ss heater covers.

@Slow Draw McGraw - Thanks for posting the photo and video. Very nice setup.

@lemmeadem - Here is a photo of the GTV prototype. It has a 110v heating element within an 18mm male glass tube. The housing is perforated aluminum which makes it very lightweight and always cool to the touch. It can be used as a wand style vaporizer or used with a whip like a desktop unit. It is not compatible with any of my HI or TT stems. It is a heavy hitter with wide open air flow. I use a modified 18mm roasting tube assembly with it. Here is a link. 18mm Glass Roasting Tube
The next prototype is going to be square in shape and will have a dimmer switch built into the base. The power cord will be detachable style.

@Seren - Thanks so much for posting the photos. It is so fun to work with such nice wood. Was lucky to have enough of the afzelia burl to make the stash top. They are something I have made for a while now but not advertised. I was turning wood tops before making vaporizers.

@rosedale - The Twist-a-Bowl tube is one of my all stainless steel roasting tubes with a twist off tip that contains a short ss tube with a screen. The purpose is to capture the material between two screens so it won't fall out during roasting.

I have been playing around with using one shaped screen placed on top of another that is filled with material. It allows me to put the material as close to the heater cover as possible when using the glass roasting tubes.
The roast is amazingly even and there are no fine particles produces from stirring because it isn't necessary. The concept works with both the 13mm and 10mm glass tubes. The screens also seem to stay cleaner. Will try to get a video or photos to demonstrate.

Wow @Alan that GTV is incredible, like a Cloud Evo and an LSV had a baby... I actually like the hexagonal shape, very unique along with the aluminum cage. I think you're sitting on another winner, I know what I'll be picking up in another year and a half when my name comes up again... Also will probably have to finally try the standard steel core then too Im sure.

Also digging the look and style of those twist-a-bowls... Oh so many stems to choose from!

Ahhh Big Bro!! Hello there! Life has been mega busy the last few months.... I have been popping in from time-to-time, but haven't really put my two-penneth in for a while. I just had to post EDA's pics though - I know how much the community love to see Alan's creations! Hope all is well dude!?

I've had the pleasure of using the GTV, and it is a great vaporizer. So light and nimble. The changes Alan stated above are only going to make it more appealing.

Here are some photos of how I have been using the stacked screens. The first photo is the 13mm glass roasting tube version. The shorter tube is used to hold the two screens and the longer tube can be used to hold a fiber filter. Either a full size or a half cork can be used to connect them together. I pre-load several of the shorter glass tips so I don't need to refill between uses. The glass tips fit safely into a poly storage tube.
Concentrates can be added to increase the number of hits.
The second photo is the 10mm glass roasting tube version. It is exactly the same concept but with smaller amounts. The glass nipple fits up to the end of the stainless steel heater cover like a ball and socket joint. Using the stacked screens in a single glass tube is also an option if no filtration is desired.
The third photo is the 10mm glass nipple fitting into an all wood 18mm WonG tube.
I have always provided two spare screens with all of my roasting tubes, so this is very easy to try.

@Shit Snacks - Thanks. It is a box style vaporizer that has been transformed into a wand style vaporizer.

@grokit - It is very similar to the Versa. The roasting tubes I use with the GTV would also work with the Versa. Have been making my own basket style screens that fit approx. 1/2" openings. I like them better than the ones with a metal rim because there is less metal mass to heat up so more heat can go to vaporizing the material. The price is better too. I can make them for $1 each.

@SSVUN~YAH - Lots of great ways to transform box style vaporizers. I really enjoy the new wand style.

@ZC - Thanks. I don't have plans to make a wooden version. The aluminum is essential for keeping it so cool to the touch. Anodization is always an option.

@KidFated. - I don't have a separate wait list for the GTV. I may just include it as an option on the HI waiting list. I need to get the glass heater cover supply issue resolved.

@Slow Draw McGraw - That is my hand holding the GTV.

Here is my latest prototype. The square shape is definitely easier to make and allows better space for the dimmer switch. It uses less material than the hexagon shape.
It stays just as cool to the touch as the hex shape and has the same air flow.
The glass is a replacement for an Easy Vape Digital vaporizer. The idea was that replacement glass would be available from multiple sources. I have not been able to find the replacement glass heater covers lately, so will most likely just make my own.
The screws on the sides will probably be replaced with pop rivets. The glass heater cover will still be held down with screws so that it can be replaced / tightened if necessary.

I love the square design. This seems like a great evolution of the log vape and I can't wait to try it.

It could look really cool if there was an LED in there, especially if it was dimmable in proportion to the heater. But That's probably too much needless complexity.

@ZC - Thanks. The heater glows orange during operation. I tried to make it as simple as possible. There are no splices to the wires. They are either soldered directly to the dimmer switch circuit board or the 2-prong (PS2/PS3 style) power socket. The GTV runs so cool, that it is tough to tell if it is running when you first touch it.

@hoptimum - The GTV is powered by 110 volts. It has a simple on/off dimmer switch for adjusting the desired power level. There is no voltage or temperature display. I just set the dial to the same position (approx. 3 o'clock) each time. The off position is 6 o'clock so my desired position is almost a full on position. The temperature can be adjusted all the way up to where it just starts to combust.
