Anything worth doing, is worth overdoing.
@BabyFacedFinster what are you doing with your abv? I did a batch of canna-coconut oil a few months ago that I cooked and froze repeatedly over ten days, specifically for sedative qualities, and it worked very well. You could eat one or two of the capsules to get that mellowing effect while still using the log for flavor. Hit me up if you want my method.

Thanks @Bongologist . This is embarrassing to say but I don't save my ABV. I did at first with my Lotus, but noticed that the ABV had a lot of charred herb in it and smelled foul. My ABV from the nano is much lighter but I got into the habit of stepping outside and blowing my spent herb out of my gong. If I start collecting it again, I will definitely hit you up for the recipe. To be honest, I have never tried an edible or a capsule before. I did try a tincture once, but it had no noticeable effect on me.

So I got the E-Nano. I tried it last night. Put a small piece of Purple Urple in it after it had been on 10 for a couple of minutes. I turned it down to 6 I think? The draw was very thick and hard to pull. There was an interesting flavor and warmth but no vapor that I could see. Lighting was poor so that didn't help. Turned it up bit by bit until it hit 7-7.5ish and started noticing some light vapor. I had probably taken a good 6 or more draws by now. I decided that I should wait even though I wasn't feeling anything......Glad I did. It was working fine in about 10-15 minutes.

Today, I turn it up to 10 and did some other tasks. It probably warmed up for a good ten minutes. I turned it down to 7-7.5 and loaded some different strain and this time I only took one hit but there was tons of vapor and I was worried that it had actually combusted! The Flower was pretty dark but I don't think it actually burned. I was plenty medicated afterwards too.

So I am thinking that if I leave it on for a bit then I'll need to wait longer after I've turned it down otherwise it may be too hot still. This strain might be more dry also.

The instructions say that there's no need to grind. Does it work out better to grind it?

Also, bits are staying caught in the edge of the basket. Won't that be a problem or do I just not worry about that small amount?

Every nano is a little different. Some run hotter than others so there is no one way for everyone. You need to experiment. Without good lighting it is sometimes hard to see how much vapor you are exhaling.

For my nano I find leaving it at 6 to 6.5 for 20 min is plenty for proper functioning although it will warm up a bit more until about 45 min. If I need it faster then I will leave it at 10 for 5 min then back it down to 6-6.5 for another 5 min. I can't leave mine on so I need to plug it in every day.

Grinding is also preference. Some don't grind and just stuff a small nug in the stem or gong and maybe break it up after a few hits. Others prefer a fine grind. I like a course grind where I only give the grinder 2-3 short twists.

Little bits around the edge of the screen will happen. Once airflow starts to restrict then you can take it out and clean screen and glass with iso.

Then there is the distance from screen to heater that can be adjusted, and also how quickly you draw on the mouthpiece. All this gives you a customized experience.

There should be a sticky for this tutorial by @Enchantre

Have fun and welcome ;)

Hey, glad you got your new vape! That heat thing will work itself out with practice. I run mine at 6.25-6.75 depending on the herb, dryness, and even if I use glass. Mostly though it's 6.5 and mine has been on since last spring, well other than a brief outage. It draws very little wattage, and mine is always ready for a hit or three.

I soak dirty stems in the tube in comes in with iso alcohol, take the screen out and soak that and have spare stems and screens ready to go. This vape is less maintainance than some of my others, and that can be a good thing.

Depending on the wood, it takes on its own look, mine is burled maple and it's getting darker where my hand fits around it. Pretty cool actually. It kind of grows with you. Anyway happy vaping!

Hi all you nano lovers!
I was reading through the last pages and just realised i never, ever tried my dry stem as a, well, dry stem :) (i do use it as a mp for the fc 187v2 though and that's exactly what makes the fc 187v2 great)
But, i own the nano for about half a year now, and it's about time to test a low temp dry stem. I get anxiety from low temps too, but i have some nice and tasty Blue Blood that should do the trick with it's high cbd content.

@Bongologist, what's that about with the repeatedly freezing/heating your abv? Sounds interesting, i guess i have a feeling of what you're getting at here, but would you mind to explain it?

My goal was getting the sleepy effects and potency. I wrapped an oz of avb in cheese cloth and soaked it in distilled water, changing the water every twelve hours until it wasn't turning colors, about 8 days. Unwrapped and put on cookie sheet on low in the oven until dried, about 1.5 hours, then run thru a coffee grinder. I put the powder avb in a mason jar and add soy lecithin, lemongrass oil, along with enough coconut oil to just cover the avb, stirring it in as adding. Double boil in a tall pot, I put a rag underneath the mason jar in the double boiler so it doesn't have direct contact. Using a candy thermometer I bring it up to about 230 F for three hours stirring every 30min or so. After letting it cool, I put the mason jar in the deep freeze and then repeat the process the next day. I think it's probably only necessary to repeat twice or three times at most, as the potency in my last batch (run thru the process twice) was not that different from the ten day batch. After letting it cool slightly the last time thru, I strain thru a cheese cloth/coffee filter and then inject the oil into capsules and put in the fridge for safe keeping. I get approximately 100 capsules starting with one ounce of avb.

Broke my first gong luckily I remembered I had the dry stem and with a little stoner engineering got it working for the water pipe.

Your very resourceful!
I'm very inspired by your example!

All this talk about warming up the NANO?
It draws such little watts I just leave it on 24/7.
6.0 is my level.
I go higher if I have a fresh incomplete batch.

Off to do some stoner logic!
Why didn't you post earlier?

So lately I've been wondering about getting a second nano. I was wondering if Andy does custom wood? Could I buy my own block of wood and send it out to him to use? If anyone has done this, how did it come out? Knowing Andy, probably very well. Was there additional cost? Wood constraints? Size requirements?

With this option you supply the wood blank to us and we make the E-Nano for you. The minimum size of the wood blank must be 2.5″ x 2.5″ x 4.25″ the wood blank must be less than 10% moisture content and kiln dried.
NOTE: We can not guarantee that the wood against cracking or splitting during or anytime after it’s production and use.

Tax season is almost here for me! I was going to buy yet another portable vape but I think I'm going desktop this time. After much research here in the FC forums, I've decided to go with the E-Nano. Has the heat up time I want, a small form factor and from what I've heard its ultra-efficient.

I do have a question and just want to verify.... the herbs stay in the stem simply by suction? Won't it fall into the heating element?

Lately I've found a new way to clean my screen. I didn't use ISO alcohol at all for the last month. How do I do it? Basically, I'm using the heat from the Nano and a little MFLB brush (and/or Acid Brush from hardware stores) to brush the screen then blow into it.

The way I do it is simple. I empty the ABV. Blow into the stem both side to get rid of any left over. The I put the stem back into the Nano and draw from it relatively hard. The goal is to heat the screen as hot as possible but there's no need to be extreme. Then I remove the stem from the Nano and use one of my little brushes (both are fine) to brush the screen*. I put some emphasis on the sides, since it's where the ABV accumulates on the screen (usually on the "other" side, "under" the screen). Then I blow into the stem both side to get rid of any left over. Then I possibly do the same thing a couple more times. And I got myself a very clean screen pretty fast with no mess.

*While I don't use it, you may need to use your stick as a counterpoise so your screen doesn't slip down as you brush it or just to push it back up a little after cleaning it. You can also be careful by not pushing too hard with the brush. Personally I don't use a counterpoise when I brush my screen and with little time the honey oil in the stem act as a little bump which prevent the screen to slip if it wasn't the case already. If your screen is wide enough already like me you don't need to use a counterpoise at all.

*I know my screen is clean because I look at it though the stem with light in the background. With the proper angle in relation to the background light you can see the woven mesh of the screen before and after you've cleaned it without removing it from the stem. Of course I know it's clean since there's little draw resistance.

*Since I don't Iso clean my screen anymore. Honey oil tend to accumulates. I don't recycle it but I like to see the vapor coming through the stem from the outside. Lately instead of using the container the stem came in (which works great), I simply pass a cotton tissue (kleenex-like) dampened with a little iso with my long stick. To dampen my tissue I simply bring the tissue to the mouth of the Iso bottle. The tissue must be small otherwise it would take to long to push it in at the mouth of the stem (with your long stick or another stick). With a few trials I found the perfect size (about 2x4inch or smaller). I think this technique is a little less messy than using the container way and faster. I did that 2 or 3 times this last month letting honey oil accumulate a bit before cleaning it. Then I put back the same screen (a bit to test my new technique since I have perfectly cleaned screens available).

For the most part yes however from time to time shit has happened and the load has fallen onto the screen that protects the actual heater. On the upside I have never had a problem when it has happened. So don't sweat it too much.

You hold the stem diagonal so it dosent fall out.

I think most people hold their Nano horizontally like a cigar while using the dry stem.

edit: Wow! In the time it took to type an answer, three people beat me to it ;)

Suction is part of it. Also the herb tends to cling to itself and the wall of the stem. Also, angling the nano in a horizontal position when in use helps. You can have some trickle onto the heater at times, but it is never an issue. I have never noticed the whole mass of herb flop onto the heater, and herb that does land on the heater doesn't seem to combust.

Finally, I find the best way to avoid herb landing on the heater (if it bothers you) is to use a gong in a waterpipe instead. This way your inverting the nano on top of the gong and gravity prevents herb from landing on the heater.
If you didn't want to use a waterpipe, you could still use a gong and invert the nano onto a J hook.
