I had an idea for a new coil design I will try soon. It will use one or two circular doughnut shaped FC2000 wicks with one coil for each side of the doughnut like this. More to come. :)

One of the red and blue legs will end up on the bottom side (not as drawn).

Believe it or not, I have thought of that very same design, I'm anxious to see how it turns out. I was thinking about just one wire though.

I am sure we are not the first ones.... :)

I thought about one wire also, but no matter how I wrap it, both wires end up next to each other? Two wires/coils fixes that problem. I should have wicks in a few days..

Can't you just bend the leads?

Ive been doing the wrapped donut for about 3 weeks now. It works ok, Might go back to dual coil regular ceramic wick. I find the ceramic wicks do get "Full" of burnt oil after about 1g of shatter. I just do a burnoff by switching to power mode and pulsing the coil at around 30w for a few seconds at at time. Im using Stainless steel clapton wire from Fasttech,. Works great on my Evic VTC Mini with the latest firmware. The RDA is the AX1, I like it because of the lower air holes. Ive been getting clapton Nickel and stainless wire from Fasttech, Much easier than making your own.

I had a plain no wick setup in there to start, but I was loosing too much oil to it just falling through the coil and onto the deck. Mind you, I was probably loading way to much, I like big big hits and use a water bong as filtration with this, just on a silicone whip.

Hey awesome man! I really like the hot plate design. I'll have to try that out. That might be the reason you were already experiencing a superior hit than I was with the monk. I have noticed overall that with the standard wick less coil design, even with the likes of aeronaught where the top and bottom airflow immediately gave me a better hit and less splatter. That the older the coil gets and more use that it takes, the less it wants to hold the oil and the more splatter I get. Anyone else noticing more splatter with older coils? Also what temp/wattage/joules are you using with the hot plate design?
i will agree that the older the coil gets, the less it holds and the more it splatters. ive been experimenting on my aeronaut with methodically burning off the excess unused oil in between hits to try and keep the coil clean, and prevent splatter/promote wicking. the last coil pictured on my evil monk only lasted me around .5 g's before it got kinda nasty. kinda pissed cause the coil was perfect.

evil monk was .13 ohms, running 20 watts

aeronaut has slightly better airflow, so it gets around 23 watts, it runs at .17 ohms

my perfect temperature is around 500 or 510 lately. any higher and it tastes nasty and harsh. lower and the coil gets gunked up faster and the hits are not as hard.

I see a few of you guys using VTC mini. Firmware v3.0 was release.

been enjoying my vtc mini a lot. very tempted to buy a backup, but the wood lover in me wants the treebox mini to play with. we'll see what happens next month after vacations.

how are you guys cleaning your coils, specifically wickless coils, just dry burns? i tried to clean the one on my evil monk in 90% rubbing alcohol and now it smells funny when i burn it, and im scared to use it.

i really like that rda. might have to pick up a clone! haha

I have been having problems with my 26g ti wire lately, Tc mode does not like it usually until I pulse it in power mode, get it barely glowing, and then TC will work, but lately I will get one wrap that will get hotter than the rest of the coil. I am leaving lots of room between the wraps so I dont think it is shorting out on the next wire.

I decided to try 24g ti wire and so far this is working great, without having to go into power mode and heat the coil up first.

I am really liking this new Evic VTC mini btw. This will now go below 30w in tc mode.

2) 24g ti coils with 6 wraps each. It's a tght fit with a doughnut fc2000 type wick.

I tried wrapping my 28G clapton wire around my donut like that, wasnt able to cover it as much as I would like and the wire surface area was much lower than the design im using now. Were you not able to wrap the wire tighter to the donut? The wire on the outside isnt even touching the wick, you should try to squeeze it against the donut with some tweezers while its hot.

Hows it smoke?

That was my 2nd attempt to wrap it, the first time I broke the wire trying to get it tighter.. This was my best effort so far with this donut and this 24g ti (it's springy). If I get the wire red hot with a lighter first, I am sure I can wrap it tighter. I am trying to avoid doing that as I did have to get it warm with a lighter to get here. I have not installed it yet. What I do like about the loose wire wrap so far, is the wire touches the ceramic cup's floor and walls as well as the donuts center a bit.. We'll see. ;)

Edit: It worked in ti mode without preheating it in power mode. Comes in at 0.16 ohms and hits hard at 440f @24w

Edit2: I found replacement cups for the Rose V2 at fasttech, 2 pack for $1.61 I think.

So after a week or so of hard use, I am totally impressed with this new coil design. I can load a huge "glob" and get at least 3 huge choking rips off it. Yes, a 3 hitter quitter!!

One thing I notice when using it, is when it starts to run low on oil, is the vapor just falls off instead of the flavor degrading quickly. This seems to be unlike my normal coils that just start to lose flavor when low on oil.

I have had zero issues with this wire getting hot spots or glowing at all. Can it get any better? You guys really need to try this coil build!

Looking at the stumpy pictures, it does not look like there is much room between the posts? I guess you could turn it on it's side? I am not sure it would act the same in a different rda than the rose v2 as the ceramic cup is basically touching wire on the sides and bottom along with any oil on those surfaces..

I can walk you through a how to if you want. I have broken several ceramic cups trying to get the twisted leads through the holes in the cup but the trick is just one or two twists, put it through the holes and then finish twisting the wires.

Wrapping the donut is baically pulling one wire up through the center and towards you. Then holding it in place while making 5 more evenly spaced loops around half the donut with the other end of the wire coming out the bottom on the opposite side away from you.. Rotate the donut in your hands 180 degrees and repeat. Once you get everything space out evenly and get them as tight as you can, twist the leads together and that's it.

@2clicker should jump on this one. My plate is a bit full right now. ;)

Guys? I remember seeing those titanium coiled atomizer heads, like for the Kangertech Mini Protank 2 and 3, and standalone eGo compatible KISS cups with ceramic wicks and various shapes of titanium coils? I realize these are all creations of the eGo-cretaceous period, but now with Temp Control, they could be revisited.

Example: I had pretty good results with a liquid that was 25% J-Mix 75% Erl, in some Kangertech Protank 2 minis, but it required manually throttling the mod to first gradually heat the oil enough to help it wick, then apply just enough power to vaporize without burning. Now with TC, the same task should be MUCH easier to manage.

Why bother? I think that big tanks as we have with the RTAs are wasteful. May as well go with a dripper. But maybe with a tiny tank it makes more sense? Ideas? Anybody see tiny disposable carts with Titanium coils?

i was able to widen the holes on mine by putting it on the tip of a knife and gently twisting it to sort of grind it away

@Joel W.... i see that you have updated your VTC. how do you like the upgrades? have you messed with SS wire yet? ive been so busy with life that i have not been keeping tabs on things like i normally do. you miss a couple of weeks and everything has changed.

im going to be copping some 316L SS wire soon and upgrading my VTC tonight i think. im hearing good things about SS wire except that contact coils have been an issue for some. and my current favorite build is still the wickless micro contact coil center with the clapton wrapped around that to hold the oil. well there is a wick, but its the contact coil center.

anyway, ill be participating more soon!

how about some pictures of that coil? i dont think you ever posted any.

im still happy for the most part with the two setups i posted last. my main issue is my coils just dont last long before they get filled up with excess oil, and start to splatter really bad. i only get about 20-30 sessions before performance significantly falls off, and the coils become filled/gunked up. would love some advice for this, @2clicker or @ixtapa or @WakeAndVape or @Joel W. , or anyone else running wickless setups? been doing dry burns after every session, slowly working up to 600f and no visible smoke coming off when im done, still doesnt seem to help.

but for the most part, still happy with my handheld super stealth pocket nail. the evil monk gives slightly better flavor, but i have to run that one slightly cooler than the aeronaut, due to the short air path. running evil monk at 18 watts .18 ohms and 480f, aeronaut at 24 watts .20 ohms and 520f. all titanium 2x24 ga wrapped in 32 ga.

i know you didnt ask me @2clicker but im still loving my evic vtc mini too haha. no issues since upgrading to firmware 3.0, and i seem to be getting awesome results running the custom tcr mode.

I dig the smaller size of VTC and I like being able to swap batteries out. I see the cold temp readout is only about 40 degrees off instead of 140 degrees like the VT at room temp. They both work equally well though imo.

I run at 30 watts now and I think this may drain my batteries quicker than higher wattage?, but I may be wrong and I have yet to try it with more wattage. It works.

I peak at about 12 amps on startup now. My counterfeit batteries will not fire it. I do not really like the magnetic cover as the magnets grab whatever is laying around, like my dabbers. Not really an issue though.

I have not played with any stainless yet. I have had zero hot spots or glowing issues with this 24g ti wire so I have not felt the need to go stainless.

Still rocking 2 of the rose v2 clones with the round donut wicks. I'd like to find another source for those wicks though.

Got a pic of this wickless micro contact coil center with the clapton wrapped around that?

well i didnt take pics because this particular build is pretty ugly. lol

i have some Ti soaking in ISO and will rebuild soon and post pics.

ill try to get pics of the build as it goes along.
