You will very soon, my good man Randy at PIU wanted to be his first customer, seems he collects fine wooden pens and just had to get his hands on one, you should have seen Carter's face, priceless!
Well shoot... and here I wanted to be his first customer! I'm tardy to the party! :\

I'd like to be one of his next customers Ed so hit me up and we'll chat about it.

Hey.. did you get my text with the wooden ornament my daughter got? I thought it might be a good idea for the boys next holiday season.

And in the beginning, perhaps an Etsy account would be a good idea for the boys; rather than getting a website.

Woot woot, the day is here yall, cant freaking wait, bout to head north bound to Memphis and board my plane here shortly. My cuz says the forecast and outlook for this weekends hunt should be EPIC! We got a guy that is a Bass Pro staffer that is all about hunting ducks, says that this weekend should be the best one yet and the possibility of us killing multiple species is very great! I cant tell you all how freaking excited I am, I mean I am oozing joy and enthusiasm, if you could bottle my mojo you could do anything! Will post up all the details and pics when I return next week.

Ok, so been working on setting up Connors website, its thecraftycarver.net you can go by and just get a feel of the layout and see what you think. Its got a ways to go but like the feel of it and he really likes it as well. Am excited for him and once his is up and running will get Reed's Wooden Pens up afterwards. Pls have a look and let me know what you think of it!

@NickDlow You got it homie, you are next in line after Randy and have just the piece of Buckeye for you bro. Carter is just loving all this work! Thanks so much my friend! Hope all is well up your way and hope you have a great weekend!

@momofthegoons Come on now, you know there aint no party without you! We got just the piece for you and was great speaking to you yesterday, you know you mean so much to me and all the boys! The wooden ornament idea is a good one and sure enough they could do that, thanks for the thought. I hope your visit with your friend yesterday was a nice one and wish you a wonderful weekend! Be safe out there!

Gotta say it one mogin, woot woot, so stinking ready to blast some birds and have a heckofa hunt!!!

Ohhhh edited to add, just ordered my tickets for my girl and I for the 2016 Beale St. Music Festival in May, lookout, Lenny Kravitz, Five Finger Death Punch, John Fogerty, and many many more to be announced!!! Oh did I mention we are doing The Tedeschi Trucks band next Wednesday, ohhh and Widespread Panic in March, ahhhh say what are you kidding me all this musical entertainment, whats one to do!

For those of you that arent aware of the Tedeschi Trucks Band here is my favorite song
of theirs, so hope we see them do it live!

I thought I should leave the same review here as I left on the site I purchased from. When I first saw an Ed's stem in 2012 or 2013 for the EQ & Solo I thought it was a huge rip off . How wrong can a man be? I hope my review convinces one person browsing the site to buy one.

This piece is hand made by a man named Ed in a shed from wood. The wood is Granadillo & is Guatemalan & useless but cool fact you can let your friends know. Of course they may no soak it in as they will be stunned by the beauty of the natural grain & unique characteristics each piece contains.

The fact that it is pretty much unbreakable & can be used as a 14mm water tool attachment adds to the exceptional value this stem presents. . .

Good morning everyone, gosh what a historic trip I had and epic hunt! All is well and am glad to be home after a heckofa weekend of non stop on the go the complete time. Was an easy trip up to Memphis, got to the airport a couple hours early, figured why not, was about 30 minutes from boarding the plane and they came over the intercom with an announcement that the plane was delayed for 3 hours, I was like WHAT to say the least! Anyhow got the info seems there was a storm out of Tampa and it was what it was, stayed cool and just hung out. Met a guy from south Texas that works as a consultant for the energy corps. was a really cool guy, was telling me about how the government is doing their all to sink oil and coal with wind turbines and solar panels, gave the me the skinny and said no matter what the world can not do with out it. Its what it is as well, he was like if you dont think we need oil and coal trying wiping your butt without paper, lol. So got to Texas about 10:30, got to the hotel in Matagorda about 1am, was up at 3:30am and off for the hunt, was a little tough on the way out, had a massive front blowing in and we had to be out of there by 11am or we would be slammed and stranded. Was a 24 mile ride out to the bay, took about an hour, were immediately setting up blinds, putting out decoys and prepping. The first wad came in just a couple minutes after legal shooting time, was about 2 dozen green wing teal, we dropped 5, 2 got away, we are all shooting big boy 3 1/2" 12 gauge shells, they pack the most punch, to the birds and my shoulder. Had a flew small flights of redheads come in nailed one here and there, pintails were flying so high, only had a couple small wads give us work, we picked up one pintail drake, they are so smart and see so well, they just didnt give us much of a look the whole time. Blue bills would come in here and there at 5-6 a time, we'd pick one of them up here and there. I had my limit by 8am, was just so excited, just super stoked! My cuz and his friend let me take out a couple more of their birds that morning til we all had our limits, 3 guys X 6 ducks watch out had 18!!!

Saturday%20Hunt_zpswj36bm5c.jpg

By 11 am we could see the storm coming in, just in the nick of time. My cuz said it had been at least 2 years that he had gotten a 3 man limit in one hunt, just the duck numbers had been down and I could sure see the difference. Guess it was about 5 years ago since my last trip and had redheads coming into our dec's by flights of several hundred at a time, this year was so different, numbers down significantly with onesies and twosies being the norm. We loaded up and put the hammer down, just made it to the hotel and the bottom dropped out, was a torrential down pour. Went out for an afternoon hunt but wasnt so successful, couldnt go to our morning spot the wind was blowing in a bad direction causing big surf and a risky ride, aint trying to get down like that! Not to be deterred, got back to the hotel fired up the grill, had bacon wrapped dove breast and deer sausage for dinner that night.

Was so beat, I was out at 8p or so, guys calling me lame for going to sleep, I didnt have a care at all, was lights out! We got started the following day about 4am, that days hunt wasnt so successful but still memorable. We were three guys in our ground blinds, I was on the right, my best shooting angle was straight out and somewhat to the right, missed a few birds off to my far right, they would peal off the point flying super fast. I literally had to aim 2 feet out in front of them to nail em. Had a big redhead drake banking hard off to my right about 5 feet above the water, I shot once behind him, had to turn so far to my right I was on my belly fired off a quick shot and dropped em, almost impossible. My cuz and his friend were watching me and not the duck they said and once I hit it they were like HEY wow nice shot! They were just as surprised as I was, probably had more to do with luck than anything else but never the less another one bit the dust. We got 7 reds that day, I got 4 of them all drakes, they were cool let me get one each of their reds.

Sunday%20Hunt_zpsnfdbr70z.jpg

I figure the storm that came through the day before blew all the birds south, very few flying that morning and much down time. My cuz asked about noon, what I thought, I told him if he wanted to take me out for mexican before my flight back we could split then, so it was, we were out and in route northbound! The flight home was on time, got back to Memphis at 10:30 and was on the road south, pretty beat still, had to stop bout every 20 minutes, get out of the truck, walk around, take deep breathes, then drive 20 more. Got home quite a bit after midnight, took me all of monday and Tuesday to get back to normal. My boys are ecstatic, my cuz and his friend sent me home with all the ducks, so had 44 breast fillets and 3 big redhead drakes for the taxidermist, got a great idea for a double wall mount, cant wait to get it done. Its on this weekend, fresh wild duck hot on the plate for saturday night, I can guarantee there wont be a piece left afterwards. Got the concert tonight with my girl, really looking forward to that, hope you all checked out the video above and got a listen to their sound, oh I love her voice, will be a great night later. Will let you all know about it later for sure. This next couple weeks is the last push for the season, it closes the 31st here pretty much so were are hitting it hard this weekend and the following, going duck hunting in the delta saturday morning and deer hunting back on my property that afternoon, sure hope we get lucky before its all over. I hope you all like my post and report from the hunt, was truly one of my best trips out to Texas and for sure the best hunt of the year so far. You can count on some Cook & Tell next week, hope to squeeze in some S&T then also.

@Stevenski Good morning my man, wow what kind words and what a review bro, thanks so much! I am sure they have influenced more than just one, well said and well taken, I appreciate you and your post. I really hope you enjoy the pieces for a long time to come.

@Reflections Sorry for the delay, just had to get the ground back under my feet, lol! I hope you enjoy reading about my trip, was so much fun, cant wait to do it again! I am so looking forward to all the music and shows this year. Even been talking to a very very good friend of mine, been texting back and forth trying to get him down here for that big festival in Memphis. I have never met the guy in person, all I know is he is a great guy with a even greater heart, hes always been my guy and there when I needed him and I for him. Really trying to get him and his girl down for the show and would be so good to see this guy in person a spend a couple days parting with him, sure hope he can make it! Got alot to be thankful for this year and so looking forward to the days ahead! Thanks for stopping by and once again I hope I laid it all out for ya, wish you all the best!

Great trip Ed!! Exciting reading about it , and glad you got some good hunting in,and more fun times to come.So do you have a good recipe for cooking duck? Do you just cook the breasts? Or can you cook the whole duck? I have a whole frozen duck and was wondering how to cook it..lol.. I wanted to maybe cook whole thing and use some meat to make some duck tacquitos..I had some at johnny garlics once and they were delish.
BTW..I dont see a video to click. Did you forget to add it?

Glad you liked the read and took the time, I appreciate that! Hmm as far as doing the duck, I'll either soak it in dales and fry it for the boys, do Jap Wraps, or even just straight buck balls they are simply marinated breast strips double wrapped in bacon and cooked on the grill. Now have done duck and dressing which is a winner winner, just make dressing, we use corn bread to make ours down here, place the duck in the center of the dish of dressing and place in the oven, tastes wonderful. The whole duck itself gives the dressing a unique flavor that you will like I am sure of it. RRRRR duck tacquitos sounds very nice, I must hear more of this! Nah didnt forget to add a video just dont have one, would have been nice to have some live action from the field but just didnt do it, stupid me!

Good morning, good morning, hope all is well out there and everyone is staying warm, I am usually warm to hot for the most part being hot natured as I am but its freaking cold down here yall! Got down to 22 this morning, was tough friday with the cold and blowing wind with gusts of 40 mph, not nice. Its the next to last weekend of hunting season for the most part and we couldnt even go, just one last push next weekend and so hoping we get lucky, been thinking if I am going to get these boys a buck am going to have to spend a pile of dough either on a big lease or on a guided hunt, both will cost me, having 3 boys its going to cost me. Had a busy few days as of late, got some work done in the shop and did time with my boys and girl. Still got today and more work to do, with church tonight and packing orders afterwards. Alright, have quiet a bit of Show & Tell coming up below, am waiting for pics to load to Dropbox, stupid internet!

I have had quiet a bit on the bench for a while and got to a couple of pieces, did a wong system for the Lily, did it with a fitting poking out of the unit just a touch, it fits within the recess of the Lily nice and snug, has 1/2" shaft the also fits tight and snug within the 18mm adapter. Did em from African Blackwood, they look and feel strongly. Sucks my cell didnt really capture how stunning this looks sharp and crisp. Had alot of fun making this piece, had never turned a piece like this ever before. Had drilled it from both directions before turning and was hoping it would work out like I had hoped and low and behold it did!

Was cool adding and figuring out the little detailing on the top of it, has me thinking about cool new flavors for future pieces.

Got a few more custom jobs out the way and gotta finish them up before I can take shots of those. Cool new Vapcap stems and Wongs in Afzelia and Katalox, a beautiful Purpleheart Solo base and stem set and some others I think. Will get some shots later when I am packing it all up to go.

Got all the boys out to the shop at one point or another, this piece is Carter's latest and 2nd pen he has turned, this is his first customer pen. Its curl Hawaiian Koa, looks stunning but just didnt line up in the display and light right to showcase its beauty.

After he got this piece finished we spent some more time chopping, boring blanks then gluing tubes. Have a couple sets going out to customers but have some really nice species that will need homes later, 2 tone Amboyna Burl, Buckeye Burl, Boxelder Burl, Cocobolo, & acrylic. I think Carter is a little more excited to do the acrylic then I am, its neat and looks great but its not wood, in the end it aint about me, its him and what he wants that matters!

While we were doing the pen blanks Connor got to work on his first set of Salt & Pepper shakers, he had been wanting to do them in Cedar, thats his favorite wood to work. He is really taking to his own and feeling more comfortable doing what he feels and likes and not asking me what I think he should do. I keep telling him, "Its your work, your pieces, do what you feel, do what you like, do that and youll love what you turn out!" I love what he did alot too!

Yes that Lily WonG is for me and damn I can't believe how gorgeous it turned out! Was not expecting the little top and other fancy embellishments but am thrilled about it as they are just so stunning! Can't wait to try it out (along with the dry stem), makes my Lily even more special and exclusive with their rarity now... And oh yeah more functional than ever!

Thanks Ed! also those salt n pepper shakers are beautiful as well! I have to agree with Connor about Cedar, makes for some nice curvy grains and pink hues! And loved seeing Major doing what he does best too!

@Shit Snacks Super glad to hear your enthusiasm for the pieces, thats what its all about my man! Yeah you will notice a tiny little divet in the top of the wong, I could have just squared off the top and done away with it but figured why, why not try something new and hey thats what you got bro! I so cant wait to hear how it performs for you in the unit and how you like it in the hand. Connor has done a great job, gotta pick the boys up this afternoon from school, there mom has a late night at work so wont get them til about 8 so figured thatd be a great time to get back in the shop. Carter is itching to turn another pen and yesterday he picked up another customer for the 2 tone Amboyna burl piece, my good friend is a lawyer and uses a pen relentlessly, wants a pen that itself has a stunning character one that oozes superiority, thats what it should look like. They mentioned that ninjas had the samurai swords and lawyers have their pens, one must have a pen with that much significance! Yes sir, Major is a true guard dog, was at the door holding true, I figure his position was due to the soft rugs under him most of all lol! Thanks for stopping by and I look forward to hearing from you at the end of the week!

Dammit! I was going to send you a text and tell you to reserve that piece... I snoozed again!

If you have another figured piece of wood that would fit the bill, I'd like to order a pen for the Mr. for his birthday. Hit me up and we'll discuss. ;)

Really nice work from Ed and his sons...great that you have taught them a trade already Ed!!
Major looks comfy! Im sure all that fur keeps him warm if hes not all wet.

Hello and thanks for stopping by with the kind words! You dont know how proud I am of them, I am showing off their work to all I see, Ill never forget the smiles and grins when they finished their pieces and their enthusiasm to get more done, they are such a blessing to me! God is great and my boys are my world! LOL, Major is such a great dog, he is a tough one and his coat is thick sure enough, they are bred to hunt ducks in the upper new England states where they bust through the ice and retrieve ducks initially. Oh my gosh he has the biggest paws too and the claws on them really hurt. For the most part I am wearing shorts in the shop, I like to be comfortable, even in the cold I have shorts and flip flops on in there mainly, when I step outside Major is there pawing at me to throw the stick, those big paws with those heavy claws drag across my leg, it hurts less to just throw the stick and throw the stick even more, I am so glad I got him. Figure I maybe the end of this year I will get a female in the same breed for a mate for him, he really needs a lady in his life. Already got a name picked out for her, Bella. Hope all is well my friend and must tell you, that jerky was all the boys, they freaking loved it! You did really great with that and I thank you for sending me some for them. I did eat some but they got the majority of it, thanks so much!

@momofthegoons Ohhh we have just the piece for you Mom, wanted to do your piece in the Boxelder burl, its really really nice, has tight bright eyes with a rust hint here and there, I know you will like it and your old man will be very happy with it, dont you sweat we got you! Hopefully Carter will get the Buckeye done today and get to yours soon afterwards. You gotta quit sleeping in like this, late night partying and all this butt dragging your doing the next morning is catching up with ya, lol!
