Discontinued The Grasshopper

I agree it vapes as evenly as any other convection vape only leaving the furthest away herb a bit lightly vaped in comparison. I rarely feel the need to have to tap because I don't find it that uneven. Tapping is just trying to squeeze out that tiny last part of vapor or to prevent the .001 from being so lightly colored.. Even with a fully packed bowl the extraction overall is pretty thorough (without mixing on the 3rd-4th or ever). You don't need to tap or mix the herb if you continue to draw more eventually the extraction will become more consistent. I'm not going for near ash.. Or specifically black.

If the effects I wanted were at a lower temp I would definitely have more interest in starting there but I feel like I am wasting more herb if I choose to gradually go up in temp.

Here is a picture of 3 hits I took from the Hopper. The bottom right is the final hit. For some reason the white background was making the abv look really black.

I don't know if you do or have ever collected any reclaim but if you were to do so..... I would expect yours might be several shades darker than @osolx26 reclaim would and you will also likely notice a difference in taste as well........

Can you purchase the mouthpiece only? For example, I have SS hopper could I buy a ti mouthpiece and use it on my SS version? My mouthpiece gets pretty hot, does the ti cool down fast enough to make a difference? Silicone cover works well but it can still a little hot at times.

Thanks

I'm guessing if this is possible it wouldn't be anytime soon since not everyone even has their preorder yet, just curious.

I need some backup in this one, but I don't think you're supposed to thread different metals together like that. Different hardnesses could cause uneven wear of the threads.

Great point!!!
And they would have different thermal expansion rates, which could easily result in wear on the thread.

E.g. One metal expanding more/less than the other, resulting in a misalignment in threads.

But it wouldn't hurt for @Marvc to ask them.
P.s. They don't have them for sale on the online store.

Unless you have the lungs of an ant I cant see how the auto shut off is even an issue :\

The auto-shut off detects when there is no draw, or soft enough so that it doesn't register. If you pack it too tight it can easily shut off even if you're drawing very hard. This wont really be an issue for anybody though.

I have 2 mouthpieces (shipping error to my benefit), and I change them every now and then. They screw on exactly the same, but have different tips. Pics are a number of pages back on this thread.

I really don't think exchanging mouthpiece will be a problem. That would cause a ton of issues for the GH, an inherit design flaw, and really doesn't seem to be the case. I'm sure a TI mouthpiece would fit fine on an SS and vice versa.

I'd be curious to know if there's any tellable difference between a TI and SS mouthpiece. Whether it's visual, noticeably lighter, etc.

@Hawk , fast tech tube thing looks like a ~10mm joint without any frosted glass. It would probably work fine. I have an 18mm male to 10mm female which the GH happens to squeeze into (thank goodness).

10mm w/ silicone.
14mm either way.
18mm better be an oil rig or good luck.

In this application, I'm not sure if it matters as all of the back ends are SS.

Try putting the barrel of the oven in your mouth, as opposed to the very tip of the mouthpiece. That is where more insulation is, and others have reported mouthpiece warmth is not an issue when used this way

Correct I find the "worst" lip placement is just the tip, you want to get at least the whole tip in there ...

Ah that was fun to say.

Anyway, it's awesome to see so many more GH's out there as I was one of the first to get one.

Feeling vindicated about the pinch method and glad people are using it. On the other hand if I'm going somewhere where I REALLY need stealth, I find that a really dense pack on temp 2 you can get a lot of tasty cloudless hits.

99% of the time though I use a pinch for using it directly and 2 pinches for a bubbler. The increased airflow I find I get better flavor and bigger clouds. I also find that a finger grind or very fluffy grind is better than dust.

On the backend material, is the same as the body so SS/SS Ti/Ti. However the clip is always SS.

I don't know about using a SS mouthpiece on Ti or vice versa but I do know you can swap backends no problem.

The mouthpiece weights are substantially different, if you have a Ti and SS and can't tell which is which the Ti will balance on its nose on a flat surface and the SS will not.

So for temp steppers out there, what's your range? I usually start around 2.5 and go to 4 over 5-10 hits per bowl.

It would be cool for next gen if there was an app that kept track of your temp settings and maybe was even crowd sourcing so it could recommend a temp for different strains or give you user or personal averages

i thought of something like that too, where a connected app could:
-display/change the set temp. could show stats, like the temp you set it at the most/least, how often you use the hopper, maybe even, if you entered the weight of your typical load, it could calculate your THC intake and tolerance?
-details about battery status
-info on how hard you're drawing, rate of extraction
-program automatic "temp curves" so that maybe for the first couple seconds of a draw, it heats at 2.5, then automatically bumps to 3.2, then finishes at 4.4, for example, all on one continuous hit, without having to fiddle with the dial. I imagine a separate setting, on either end of the physical dial on the GH 2.0, that would be for this programmable heat setting, so as not to be confusing.
-give clearer diagnosing of what the error flashing light statuses mean; offer more diagnostic help
-allow you to turn of the automatic shut-off

can ya let me know when this thing actually has valid quality control? never heard of so many problems and so many excuses. they should never have released it until they got it right. great concept but who cares if they crap out?

Okay so apparently the back ends of my devices are not getting hot they are just getting "warm". Everything is working as it should, but if it starts acting up I have to pay to send it in.. I was hoping they would ship a new back end, but I guess not.

One of my batteries could be stronger but maybe I got a bad one. On my good batteries I am seeing 3-4 chambers per battery at level 3.

I do feel the SS back end feels sturdier though. Something about the smoothness of the click.

@SlinginPaint, your good battery sounds about right on the dot for time a single battery lasts.

@bobo305, as far as I'm aware, every backer who has received theirs, broken or not, has had a functioning Grasshopper at some point. If it is broken, it isn't forever lost. Were you to order now I'm pretty sure they'd have the kinks worked out by the time they were shipping those orders. Furthermore, it's hard creating

@slcbdco I temp step sometimes starting on 1 but usually 2.5-5. Each hit gets 2 if it's tight, one if it's looser (pinch or two). And to be fair, I've been only going to 5 near the night. Too early in the day and I start passing out around 4P.M. No high temps for me :p Otherwise, recently I've only been getting 2-3 hits (very long draws, upwards of 30 seconds?) with very cloudy results from the Grasshopper. This is with a pinch or two, so no more than .1, probably a good amount less.

It actually tricked me. I thought my Grasshopper was acting up because it wasn't producing much vapor back to back like it had been, and generally putting out great hits for 15 seconds and then thinning vapor.

And then I remembered that I'd been putting .03 in the chamber. :whoa:

One hit wonder guys. Don't forget that

I haven't be watching this thread too closely lately because I am still have a long time before I will get a grasshopper.

I did read people trying to get funnels made and making the hopper easier to pack.

Here is a grinder that might be the perfect grinder and fill tool for the hopper.
I talked to the maker and it should be available within a few months to the public.

Here is a link to the "chewy" grinder. "If it has been posted already I apologize."
https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/chewy-herb-grinder--2#/

I am hoping to get one very soon before its release so I can do a video and show you all how it works.

Well, the vast majority of grasshoppers don't crap out. Order one now and you won't be disappointed.

Signed,

A very happy grasshopper owner who's had the exact same one since September 2015.

Update on the one I'm using. Recent issues have been hot back end (3rd unit) and operating issues when clicking it on (2nd unit). The first click it will go red, then off. Second click is blinking red, then off. It does this for about 4 or 5 tries until it will actually go blue and heat up. Then repeat the process for each hit.

The reply I received back was 'sounds like a loose pin, tap the back end a couple times and it should clear it up'. I did that, it didn't work. I kept testing, tapping a couple more times and sure enough, it got back to working like new for about 10-15 consecutive hits. Was really cool.

But now it's back to the issues of it not working right. Still tapping the back end but it's about a 50/50 chance it works correctly right now.

Oh well.

Is this a new backend with the seamless band around the clip?
