It started a week or so ago, when I noticed a crack had formed that went 2/3 of the way around the stem. I'm not sure exactly how it happened, possibly from torching it to get reclaim, or possibly from dropping it:

Bummer. Either technique will kill a stem (if Ataxian isn't handy.....), my money's on the torch.

My bet is by rapidly heating the mouth area it expanded (as a ring) faster than the web where the holes are could. The walls expanded faster than the bottom of the bowl. This normally happens slower and to a lower degree (pun intended) in normal use.

My beloved PVHEGonG broke today... :(

It was still usable with the crack. I knew it was gonna break sooner or later, but I was careful with it and I got a good week of use out of it. Then today, right at the end of my session...

So, now I guess I need to order a new one. I'm just debating as to whether I should get the Vortex one or another regular PVHE...

Decisions, decisions... :sherlock:

I was able to save my 14mm gong that cracked by wrapping it with plumbers tape. Intended to get another, but have been using it for over a year now that way. By the way both of these gong s were made at a local glass blowing shop from mostly broken parts and that rather useless aroma therapy dish that most Solo owners still have laying around.......

Has anyone successfully swapped batteries on an M105? I see centizen sells kits but this was way earlier when I first joined FC I tried and was unsuccessful in getting it to charge with a new 18650 battery.
I don't believe its the units fault though as my friend accidentally plugged a wrong charger into it and caused all the problems to begin with anyway so in changing the battery I had hoped the charging IC chip was controlled in the battery but it seems its internally on the solo PCB.
Just wondering if anyone else has had it happen. So now my old one only functions with the external power supply now as a corded solo for the water pipes no biggy!

Waiting patiently for my stem to come, no I'm not. Patience has never been a virtue of mine. They forecast a delivery date of Jan 23 or later and I look for it every day. I just ordered 2 more with the plastic tips as if compounding my expectations might help it come. My rationale is that even when I'm able to build an unbreakable stem and gong I'll still be able to use these shorty glass ones as travelling rations I can carry loaded. Long ago in a galaxy far away I was a quartermaster clerk in a reserve artillery battery and it left me with a sense of the importance of having too much stuff whenever possible, and then spares on top of that, just in case.

When I blew mine apart by letting water back up the stem that's exactly where it parted; the bowl came clean off above the plate with the holes in it.

I can't wait until Arizer, Storz & Bickel, or another morally responsible firm, release a concentrate device capable of this level of temp control that interfaces with iPhones (like the crafty/mighty), but which is nearly as small/stealth as my HUFmicroG (that I'm replacing with the equally stealth, but far more healthy Linx Hypnos) lol. That will be the day.

Hi everyone! Total noob to vaping weed, though I use e-cigs. Ordered a Solo yesterday and expecting it today or tomorrow. Saw comments to another new guy a few pages back about the first charge, so I'll certainly charge as recommended. Just a quick question or two. I'm a daily smoker. I usually pinch a bud for one hit at a time in a glass pipe and do 6-10 hits a day. Can I do something similar with the Solo?
I did order some domed screens so maybe that might help using smaller quantities? Should I pack one bigger bowl that would last throughout the day? Looking forward to experimenting over the weekend!

The SOLO is a no thrills get it done kind of vaporizer.
Not to brag however I can buy whatever vaporizer I want.

I don't smoke tobacco however I like CANNABIS and have sessions about ever 1 1/2 hours.
This is my medication!

The SOLO is simple and works very well.

Some just like to collect stuff and have a boat load of portables kind of like a Large Belt Buckle or Jacked up 4x4 in the city?

Very logical purchase.

I use the PHVES STEM a lot however a 18mm PHVES GonG is on my wish list. (if availble I will order one from www.planetvapes.com) The stems that come with it work fine as well.

Welcome to practical vaporizing!

Welcome Chivas! So the Solo takes a whole 12 minutes to complete a session, so it will not be like your one-hitter in that sense, but you will be able to use around the same amount if you use the domed screens.

Packing a bigger bowl in the Solo wont do you any good because you will need to finish the whole thing during your session of 12 minutes. The herb MIGHT be good for one more session after your initial session, but I do not re-use unless I'm am starting the Solo right back up to burn through a whole other session. I just do not like the flavor of it after it has sat.

The Solo is a great device, find your sweetspot.

@ChivasRx Solo can be used as a one hitter no prob, but lends itself better as a session vape. Small amount for two or three draws works well and the screens would help for that style. Full stem and reusing works too however the taste will be mostly gone after the first reheat. As you can see the Solo handles everyone personal style. Sky's the limit (pun intended)
Enjoy experimenting with you new toy.

As i saw like two pages ago
a steel or titanium solo stem is needed greatly! One that can hook into a 14mm female joint of course

Be careful what you wish for. Metal will conduct the heat upwards, like Ed's stems do now. Not that that's fatal, but it demands more care and more power. A wooden handle, that says cool, would be nice......which brings us back to Ed again?

Why not put a glass chillum for a mouthpiece!

3/8" silicone tubing for the seal.

Now you're talking! Or as they'd say 'now you're cooking with gas'.......

I like it, but why not go half inch and seal to the OD of the chillum? Or 5/8, 3/4 whatever. That is not add any restriction and make it easier to connect to the chillum.

I'm thinking about a SS tube .570 (or whatever you decide it ideal/available) inch OD and say 1.5 inches long. Chop it off, bevel the ends, polish and clean. Done. Each guy gets a stand, basically a flat, round headed bolt threaded into a base block. A post you can screw up and down to adjust bowl size. To build the stem you'd use the normal snap ring pliers to start a snap ring into one end of the tube. Then push the tube down over the tool to push the ring to the right level and square it. Next, drop a screen in the open other end, start the second ring in and push it home with the dowel (AKA 'stick') part. Like a ramrod. Against the tool, trapping the screen between the rings at the right spot (set by the tool).

You could, of coarse, just use a few different length pegs instead of an adjustable tool, but something solid and pretty that let you adjust to whatever size bowl you want would be kinda cool I think?

A guy could make the parts on one of those table top lathes quite easily and quickly. And a vibrator type tumbler could do the deburr and finish. The rest can come from M/C, USPlastics, and the chillum shop near you. Or import a bunch?

A few hundred bucks could get it going. For what you'd waste on a new vape or rent or something you could buy some tube, a vice, hacksaw, a couple files, snap rings and pliers, and start experimenting. Keep it all in a shoebox. After you get tired of spending so much time filing one to fit, a small additional investment brings the lathe and serious speed and quality gains.

Or you could draw the part(s), or even make samples, and bid them out to either local shops or some offshore shop.

You could easily do a pilot run, or even modest production runs, in your garage or spare room (if there is such a thing.....). With small capital investment. Then 'farm it out' if it got out of hand?

Could be a fun project for a guy that wasn't already busy being retired.......

I think you've done your part already, OK to sit this one out. Good tip on the tube, but I fear it's undersize? 15mm might be a closer fit, but it's not a standard near as I can tell?

OTOH, McMaster/Carr sells 9/16 OD tube (.563 inches) that's a tiny bit above 1/2 ID so standard (SAE) clips and screens should fit perfectly? $8 will get you a 1 foot piece to play with.
