Discontinued The Grasshopper

Is there supposed to be buzzing noise while charging? Thx

That's normal from the magnetic piece, I've also recently found that the transformer(?) next to the USB also buzzes, but haven't asked GHL if that's normal but I imagine it is.

I'm no expert on batteries, but my old batteries barely last 1 full load. If it were really cold theoretically there could be zero charge, even if they had been fully charged? I've gone through 3 sessions on a new battery throughout today already.

Oh well! It's both unfortunate and awesome that the batteries are cheap I guess.

I'll order some new batteries, but I've got six and I've gotten way more than 4 half hits from that battery yesterday. But maybe they've improved them over these months. Or mine has discharged a lot over these months of daily charging.

4 times in a row I couldn't use my Hopper after work. I kept it in my coat pocket during but once I got outside it would start and then go red mid hit. I try and click it on several times after that and it behaves as if it has no battery. I got in the car to connect it to the charger. Initially it did not even flash any lights like it did for the first heat up. I reconnected and a quick red blip. ..I waited a few minutes for it to charge more and for my car to get warmer, it would turn on but it seemed all the battery was drained (even though it should have been full). At first I didn't think it was on but I saw some red flickering then it went out and 3 seconds later went blue. Started my drag and 2 seconds later it went red. I was able to get about 4 actual hits from my Hopper on my way back and then swapped for a new battery once at home and killed the bowl even further.

Temp outside was about 20F, I've had my Hopper in warmer weather after work and it works so it is unfortunate how well the unit/batteries are affected in the cold.

It's possible that what drained the battery is that on your last hit it auto shut off instead of clicking it off. In "stand-by" mode the light will flash periodically to let you know it's in stand by which over HOURS like a full
work day would drain the battery a fair bit.

It wasn't a double click to start. Normally when I try to use a dead Hopper it doesn't even get to blue lights even when on the charger for 2-3 minutes. I was able to get some hits but that was on the first heat up as I walk outside (one hit then flashing red lights during) and then about 10 minutes later once the unit charged. But again, it was a full battery; I did not use the Hopper beforehand.

I'll do some testing tomorrow. I'll leave one Hopper on standby, use the other and see how many bowls I can get out of a couple batteries throughout the day, and have another just sitting with a battery loaded and I will take a few hits outside.

I also read in a review that when it auto shuts off you can just inhale and it'll turn back on. Is that a real thing? I don't think ive been able to make this happen I usually have to click and reclick.

I've never experienced that. I've always had to reclick.

It also wouldn't follow through with the auto-timer just going out on people with slow draws.

I don't have my hopper yet, so take this with a pinch.....
But everything I've read so far leads me to believe that after the auto shut off, we're required to click once to fully switch off, then again to switch on.

Remember that pinch of salt though.

That is correct. Auto-shutoff only turns off the heater but the device is still "on" i.e. the switch is in the on position and energy can flow, hence the periodic flashing read as a reminder. The battery drain is slow but present in this mode.

That is the reason you have to "click twice" to "wake it up" from standby. Really you're just turning it off and turning it back on.

I mean the Hopper needs more stirring or mixing of herb to prevent green spots Vaperist was talking about.
You only need to mix it after 3 or 4 hits if you're using it through a bubbler. If you're hitting it normally, like most people are most likely to do because it's a portable vape, it vapes perfectly evenly.

i think that SS case defeats a purpose of GH being stealthy. for example- you go trough security check of summer festival. ether you carry your Hopper in pocket or in a bag. ether way metal detector is going to beep. so security guard asks: "what is this?" you say "a pen". he asks: "Why it is inside a case like that". "Because it is a very expensive pen you might argue". "So why da F you carry so precious pen inside a festival? i wanna check it." dahhh,...

i think the most stealthy way to carry GH is in your front pocket together with a little notebook. using a leather sleeve is better for that, as you can still use a clip.
I have a solution for your problem: Don't use the stainless steel case at festivals.

Seriously, there are about 1000 situations where a case like that would be incredibly useful and about...4 where it wouldn't be (Airport, Festival, Sporting Event, and I actually can't think of the 4th. Presidential Debate, maybe? Idk)

Does it need stirring if you half fill it and use it with a bubbler?
Can it be shaken to mix the herb?

If you were using a hydratube with the GH mouthpiece above the heater, is this more efficient due to herb falling closer to the heater?

I only ever half fill mine and a little bit of herb at the top usually is a little big lighter than the rest if I rip my grasshopper out of a bubbler. I'm usually too lazy to stir it but I'm sure you can just tap it and try to mix it up a little bit. It's the nature of a convection vape, I guess. It makes sense, since the herb closest to the heating element gets the brunt of the heat. I'll try it out tomorrow night (I won't be home tonight to try it) and get back to you on that one. A little side note: The amount that isn't as dark as the rest of the herb is such a minimal amount that if that's a deal breaker for you then, well, idk what to say about that. Out of .05g, we're talking maybe .001 doesn't get vaped as dark. It still gets vaped, but not as dark. Like literally just a few flakes at the top.

I have no experience with a hydratube, so I can't comment on that.

Hot back end = bad back end, submit warranty request, will have replacement in a week.

According to HL the backend is supposed to get a little bit hot. Not so hot that you can't touch it but still hot. Don't just go "Hey I'm ripping my grasshopper on the highest setting and the back end is a little warm. Warranty request!" No, it will heat up and it's fine. You'll know if there's a problem. It'll get ridiculously hot and it'll be obvious that it's overheating.

Unfortunately I disagree (but its the level of extraction I go for (I start at 5)), to mix its a simple tap against a harder surface. Mixing/tapping is almost always required to get the herb touching the mouthpiece screen a bit darker. From 4 hits I have never had my herb entirely darkened even with tapping the herb back down.

I've easily done 100+ bowls on each individual Hopper and I go native more often than not since I have little reason to use the Hopper at home.

Not everybody tries to burn their weed in a vaporizer. I've seen what you go for. It's 1/4 step above combustion. I vape my herb until it's medium-dark brown, not ash. If you want to vape it until it's near ash then of course you'll need more than 4 or 5 hits. Still, my grasshopper always vapes evenly when not in a bubbler and only a little bit at the top is a little bit lighter when used with a bubbler. I can't use it at 5 without a water tool. Way too harsh for me.

Think of it like an oven. If you put a cake in an oven at a medium heat, it'll cook nice and even. If you pop a cake in an oven at an obscenely high heat, the outside will cook but the middle will still be raw because the top was exposed to so much heat so fast that it cooked before the middle could get warm. By the time the middle of the cake actually cooks, the top is burned to a crisp. Same things happening with your hopper. Why don't you try starting at a lower temp, like 3.5 or 4, and then moving up to 5? You'll probably get a much more even vape that way.

Can't wait to get mine. I think this will be a game changer for me. That heat up time is insane. Any new vapes coming out in future will have to be at least close to that. Still down as shipping in January, preordered in July! We'll see.

I agree it vapes as evenly as any other convection vape only leaving the furthest away herb a bit lightly vaped in comparison. I rarely feel the need to have to tap because I don't find it that uneven. Tapping is just trying to squeeze out that tiny last part of vapor or to prevent the .001 from being so lightly colored.. Even with a fully packed bowl the extraction overall is pretty thorough (without mixing on the 3rd-4th or ever). You don't need to tap or mix the herb if you continue to draw more eventually the extraction will become more consistent. I'm not going for near ash.. Or specifically black.

If the effects I wanted were at a lower temp I would definitely have more interest in starting there but I feel like I am wasting more herb if I choose to gradually go up in temp.

Here is a picture of 3 hits I took from the Hopper. The bottom right is the final hit. For some reason the white background was making the abv look really black.

I don't think it affects the performance positively or negatively. My only waterpipe at the moment is the Vapexhale Turbine Hydrotube and the Grasshopper clouds it better than the EVO itself at the moment.

Also, I've just noticed that all of the AVB with the new batteries was very very dark, compared to the last week of AVB which was very light. All vaped up to temp 5, I honestly think it was the weakened batteries. These new ones are KILLING it, though.

No, no not killing the Grasshopper like doing awesome killing it... :brow:

I'm not saying start at 1. Start at like 4 and then move it up to 5. You'll still get the same effects.

I just ordered the blue Ti today. From what I've heard everywhere, I'll be pleasantly surprised if I get mine in May (the date says March but I know not to trust that one bit by this point). But it all works out, since right now is the time when I actually have a lot of disposable income. Kind of looking forward actually to getting it shipped months down the line, brand new with even more issues worked out, and for free since I already paid. It's more of a narrow silver line than anything, but I'll take it.

Still, I really hope the earliest preorders start shipping very soon, you all deserve it after waiting for this long (:

I have the Nibbler X, and its perfectly sized for the GH. Made in the USA. I do not use the SS insert you see in the picture. I originally used it with my Persei but its been re assigned now!

Of course it is much more expensive than the link you posted, but in my experience you get what you pay for especially in smaller glass.

Mind posting a pic with it mated to the Grasshopper? Right now I'm using a Pinnacle water tube, but looking for something more "portable"

I've ordered the unit @Hawk just posted the link to. $4.17(use coupon code RMBBUST) vs $71.40 . I can't justify the price difference, especially glass which I will likely break at some point.

Can you purchase the mouthpiece only? For example, I have SS hopper could I buy a ti mouthpiece and use it on my SS version? My mouthpiece gets pretty hot, does the ti cool down fast enough to make a difference? Silicone cover works well but it can still a little hot at times.

Thanks

I'm guessing if this is possible it wouldn't be anytime soon since not everyone even has their preorder yet, just curious.
