Concentrates for Noobs - Q&A

Back in April. 2014 when "FlyingLow" first started this thread, I thought here is my opportunity to learn helpful information. I just read all 1749 posts on this thread, and didn't find the answer to my query. "FlyingLow" thanks for starting this thread, I learned a lot.
So everyone won't start yelling at me for not doing my homework, I have searched here and there for answers to my questions. Yes I have searched this forum. The people on this forum have my respect and trust to know the correct way to do things the healthy way.
I have viewed countless ways to season a Ti nail. I've had stoners with "vape snot" dripping of their upper lip, say "season it in water", "season it in the oven", "wash it in iso", "don't wash it in iso", "use Everclear".
I've gone to providers web pages for info, and they are just as conflicting. I've seen skinny girls, fat girls, tweekers galore, all living in their parents basement, telling me they are all knowing of how to season it, but they are all different.
I'm so confused.
Now you guys I trust to know the truth to the question, "How do you properly season a titanium nail?"
I know you do it like you are doing a dab. Do you heat, count ten, then paint the ti? Or do I paint the nail while red hot? How many times should I repeat this? Logic says you just burn it off, when you hit it with the torch again.
I have a domeless "All-in-One" that I put on a 4" drop-down. The nail has a skirt that sits on the male 14mm. drop-down. Is there much danger of the drop-down getting to hot, (from conduction)?
I realize they get heated by contact, but do I need to season my Ti dabbers and Ti carb cap?
Ok folks be gentle with me I'm an old man, trying to get older.

You Dab Like a GIRL!
I came to this section of the forums looking for an education, but saw no "Sticky" nor basic guides for new users. Let this be a place to ask and answer questions.

I am a seasoned smoker turned vape'er, and to this point have always been a flower person. The whole oil rig, dome, nail, and torch can kinda be a bit intimidating for the lifelong flower person, and it became clear my LHS does not have the experience to provide me with any sort of education.

Recently I gained access to oils and I need some education on oils/concentrates; I need guidance. If any other noobs have some basic concentrate/oil questions, feel free to ask in here as well:

- What should I be looking for in BHO oil?
- What range of colors is desired?

A friend dropped off some BHO oil and it is pretty dark brownish green- nearly black in the thicker areas.
When stretched and spread thin, it appears a lighter, amberish in color.

-What are typical gram prices for BHO oil? (I am not in a position to make this myself)

I have two choices for delivery. I have a pen with a nail in a dome- looks like a hopped up e-cig. Or, I can buy a nail and dome for my new SB bubbler and filter through water. What do you all recommend?

So far I have only used the pen and it is quite affective. I look forward to everyone's input and guidance.

Depending on geographic location, BHO runs retail from $25-100/g

From somebody who has smoked it all before, I'd recommend "solvent LESS" vs. solvent based or even solvent FREE (solvent free was made with solvents in turned purified to become solvent free - solvent LESS starts out and finishes with 0 solvents)

Nail & dome will always be more efficient but pens are much more conveniant and easy to use/transport.

What area do you live in?

OK guys I am making reclaim hash oil for the 3rd time and I am looking for the best way to purge and change the consistency (harden) my reclaim hash oil. The first two times I took the rubbing alcohol I had been reusing for a couple of months to clean my pieces, put it in a Pyrex pie dish and let is sit out for a couple days until I could no longer smell any alcohol. The 2nd time I actually put in the freezer overnight after the alcohol smell was gone which did harden it a little but it still was really sticky and taffy-like. I have a griddle on my stove and I was thinking about putting the Pyrex dish on there for about an hour on low temp after it has sat out for a couple days and right before I put in the freezer overnight to purge any remaining alcohol and hopefully harden my finished product, any thoughts or suggestions? Also I live in a state where I have access to everclear and wanted to know if I could clean my pieces and perform this process with everclear or if that process is only used for fresh herbs. Thanks in advance for the help

My Mind Is Free
It is tougher to get a harder consistency when using reclaim or processing abv from my experience.

One thing I have been thinking of trying is:

Winterize the alcohol solution. (Put it in the freezer for at least a few hours.)

Do a rough straining first through something like a 5 or 10 micron filter. Or a coffee filter is also fine for this step.

Grab some .02 micron syringes

Use those to filter the preferably 5 micron or less solution.

Evaporate that.

Purge.

See what happens.

P.S. - Another thing I was thinking of doing after that step was putting that concentrate into capsules for ingestion rather than dabbing. Just because the taste isn't the greatest. Not sure if that is a great idea, but I figured I'd try at some point.

Hey guys, just wondering if anyone had suggestions on what would be the best method for storing hash oil cartridges to preserve potency and flavor? Is just storing them in a cool, dark place good enough? Or should I put them in something air tight and/or store in the refrigerator? Thanks

Air tight is always good...room temp should be fine not sure about storing hash oil tanks in refrigerator...

How long does a gram of oil last compared to the eighth of bud to make it?
We (the wife and myself) used to combust all the grass we grew. As long as we continued to grow we could feed our habbit. Now I make BHO from 90% of my grass and we vape the remaining herb in a Crafty/Solo/Air/MiniVap but we mainly consume the BHO. Now we do not have to do back to back grows. If we keep growing at our old pace we build up a stash. So in short it seems to us that BHO is more ecconomical than herb.

Also you're not combusting, which is probably the main reason for conserving cannabis, whether lt's in concentrate or herbal form :)

Dabs are vapor too!

Seems more economical to me, also there's no grinding etc.

Where the hell can I find a few of these 510 adapters?

Done some troubleshooting, and it seems this is the failing piece in my setup.... anyone have a source? Did not see the part on PIU

Does one have to buy a set to get this part?

That's a drip tip, just google it or hit up your local vape/e-cig store.

All the ones I have found local do not have the rubber grommets to for the globe to fit onto. They are screw on the bottom and top like this:

I would also like to know the answers to the questions you have asked. I even came to this thread today thinking I might ask the same sort of question, but you've already laid it all out better than I would have been able to. Lucky me. Is it bad to season the ti by just dabbing off it? It tastes like burnt Chinese take-out.
