Respiratory problems from vaping?

I am curious as to anyone's experience with issues using vaporizers.

I have been vaping for around 4 years. For the past year I'm a daily vaper using around 0.2-0.3G per day. My current vape is the mflb, I never had any issues before 2 months ago and specifically 3 weeks ago. I can take 1 tiny hit where there is no visible vapor yet I start coughing so much I can't finish the 2 tenths of a gram I put in.

I've seen a pulmonologist and he ordered a methacholine test which showed no asthma. We even had a conversation as to not use cannabis before the test as thc has bronchiodialtor effects.

I have also talked to my primary care Dr. She gave me antibiotics but no diagnosis. I'm on day 4 of zithromax.

I tried eating to medicate it either had no effect at a low dose or made me extremely dizzy. I'm thinking if I switch to a convection vape it may help. So I'm currently waiting on FF2. I have read others have similar reactions from the mflb suddenly, unexpectedly, even after extended use in some cases benefited by switching.

Have a question. Please help......How come i cough every hit no matter if i hit slow or fast. What am i doing wrong? When i first got my MFLB I could take monster rips with NO coughing. Now i can't even take little rip without coughing. I am using the same technique now that i used when i first got it..Am i doing something wrong or are my lungs feeling e effects of those monster rips?

I have tried using a whip with no benefit, the only way I can medicate is to take 1 puff of an albuterol inhaler, but the only time I need the inhaler is when I vape. I just don't understand, studies show (see below) thc is a bronchiodialtor and cbd is an anti-inflammatory. So it should help my breathing.

Notes: Also I have tried switching strains.
I spend 20-35 mins on average daily walking on a treadmill at 4.0mph.
I used a peakflow meter to measure respiratory function. Vaping causes my (liter/min) to be 350 l/m which improved after either waiting 40 mins or using albuterol (waiting 10 mins) in which my numbers go to normal 610 l/m.

Cannabinoids as novel anti-inflammatory drugs
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2828614/

"In addition, several studies showed that cannabinoids downregulate cytokine and chemokine production and, in some models, upregulate T-regulatory cells (Tregs) as a mechanism to suppress inflammatory responses. "

"These preliminary data reveal meaningful improvements in respiratory function, suggesting that a randomized clinical trial of the cannabis vaporizer is warranted. The vaporizer has potential for the administration of medical cannabis and as a harm reduction technique."

So I'm a little confused. After reading what you stated above, it sounds like you told your doc that small hits from your vaporizer causes you to cough so she put you on antibiotics with no diagnosis? If I read that incorrectly, please elaborate. If I did read that correctly, your doctor should lose her license to practice medicine.

The MFLB is known to provide vapor that is pretty hot and dry. My suggestion is to try vaping through a water tool filled with very warm water. The moisture that that provides makes the vapor very easy on your lungs.

My doctor knows I vaporize cannabis. She didn't mention anything about it, she thinks my issues may be related to weather or anxiety. Yet if that were true taking 1mg of klonopin should stop the wheezing. But it doesn't. And I'm not anxious when it happens or having a panic attack. And last year was colder than this year so...

Here I am now after 1 hour 50 mins after 1 puff of albuterol able to finish my trench from the launch box. Albeit with a little coughing but not constant fits. But this still is not satisfactory for me, for one the lung specialist says I don't have asthma. And even if I did cannabis should help, according to the studies I've read. And for two I can't depend on taking albuterol everyday. Man made drugs make me nervous.

Yup............it could also be an allergic reaction. We're all built a little different, eh?

I've been using cannabis for over 10 years I'm not allergic to it.

I have a friend who strangely enough always takes a toke. When he does it is a disaster. The dude cannot quit coughing --- it is literally an attack. Last time he was here I said none for you, it's not cool to the neighbors!

Cannabis can affect you in many, many, ways. I don't know?

All I can recommend is always vape through warm water if you feel it is causing too much discomfort. Try a couple more techniques, but If you still feel shitty, do not feel bad about considering not vaping.

:2c:

Not vaping is not a choice. I am an inveterate user. Ill figure out what's going on. I think the type of vape may make a big difference.

Yeah she put me on antibiotics with no diagnosis. Is it weird that she is from India and so are my antibiotics?

You can become allergic to anything regardless how long you have been using it. You could eat tomatoes all your life and then one day...........bang, you're allergic to them. Allergies are kinda weird in that way.

As far as the antibiotics coming from India, that is kinda weird. Did she dispense them to you herself?

Food allergies sure, I know. But I've been to an allergenist. This isn't an allergic reaction. I'd have a rash or burning or itching. I'm confident I'm not allergic to cannabis.

Allergies are allergies. Doesn't matter if it's food, pollen or cannabis. Also, allergies can manifest themselves in many ways, be it a rash, burning, itching, nose running, coughing, feelings of anxiety, breathing issues, etc etc. Did your allergist test specifically for cannabis?

I am not allergic to cannabis, allergies have to do with mast cells in the body. If read above in the original post cannabanoids are anti-inflammatory and suppress chemokin and cytokine production which is responsible for allergic reactions. I didn't suddenly become allergic in 3 weeks. And albuterol wouldn't fix an allergic response but antihistamines may.

"When mast cells are activated by an allergen that binds to serum IgE attached to their FcɛRI receptors, they release cytokines, eicosanoids and their secretory granules. Mast cells are now thought to exert critical proinflammatory functions, as well as potential immunoregulatory roles, in various immune disorders through the release of mediators such as histamine, leukotrienes, cytokines chemokines, and neutral proteases (chymase and tryptase). The aim of this review is to describe the role of mast cells in allergic inflammation. "

Maybe you are allergenic to vapor itself? Yeah, Indian antibiotics will fix that.

Sorry, I had too.
Well ive decided to stop vaping, until I get the ff2. If it doesn't work for me ill stop using cannabis and move forward with medicinal mushrooms.

I say if something doesn't feel right don't do it. Take a T break for a few weeks. Use cannabis in edibles if you can't completely go without, do to medical reasons. If it makes you cough every time - your body is telling you something. I think you need to listen. Best of luck .

Edit
I see you came to that conclusion while I was typing.:)

hi , Archaicrevival that one thread you linked was mine . wow ! its been almost four years lol .
well im still a regular here . one thing i can tell you is i do think my lungs are in better shape since i started vaping .
i still smoke a little maybe some were around 80 % vape and 20 % smoke . but i am breathing better now i think then when i first made that thread in fact im pretty sure of it, i dont have as much of a smokers type cough. but vapor still does cause me some irritation more then i would like . also i never looked back after getting the solo never used the launch box again after the solo , was way smother and nice hits . i now have two solo and a extreame q . i find winter seems to make vaping a little more irritating just because of the dryness . also when i first started that thread i was still using street weed , i have since for a couple or few years been using medical cannabis that is regulated tightly and has no pesticides molds fungus or any other nasties . i think this make a diference too.
but as for your circumstance im pretty sure that if i needed an inhaler to beable to do it i would seriously consider at least a good t break .

I had some similar experiences over the past couple of years, and it was 100% the vaporizer and high temp vaping. Convection vapes seem to be the WORST for my airways, I think it's the amount of hot air that hits the lungs, but being a cloud chaser and desiring high temp effects, it got out of hand really fast. My worst offenders were the Cloud and E-Nano.... both cloud monsters.... and it became so bad with the coughing fits that I would get chronic recurrent bronchitis episodes, and could never figure out why. I moved on to some other vapes, and have had absolutely ZERO issues with coughing, and haven't experienced bronchitis in well over a year now.

Using a water tool is also a rule for me....i'll still hit dry from time to time, but 99% of the time I use water to filter, moisturize, and cool for great comfort. Warm water helps even more!

I've also had to cut back greatly due to negative affects on my pulmonary system, mainly a lower than ideal blood oxygen concentration. It's funny too, any time I quit to take a break, I cough alot for the first few days, especially after taking a shower. I guess it's the bodies way of cleansing...?

Anyways, my consumption is like 10X yours....... vaping is infinitely better than smoking, but it's not 100% benign either, and it's definitely not for everyone.

As for being allergic to weed, that can happen at ANY point. I haven't been actually told i'm allergic, but I have had skin test reaction to grass and trees, and from time to time if I get some material on a sensitive part of my skin (inner forearm, face) I can get an itchy allergic red welt for a while. Back in the day i'd have ridiculous sneezing fits too (maybe when I used to use a coffee grinder!), and get all congestion.... doesn't seem to happen anymore, and I think i've also "outgrown" the allergy to grass and trees.

Maybe give something like the Mighty (my favourite vape) a try, since it has the digital precision temperature adjustment, and holds it's temp pretty well? Add a SonG to that with a nice water tool with warm water and it could be life changing! It's a convection/conduction combo, but that Cooling Unit works MAGIC to cool, and that's before it even gets to the water tool!

I am not experiencing the heavy coughing as some of the above posters, but i have respiratory problems due to vaping. I feel my lungs are being restricted after a period of vaping, and like @biohacker, i have a low oxygen count in my blood that i'm sure is from vaping.
Last week i went on a trip to the UK and i only took some edibles with me. After a couple of days, things really started to clear up (coughing up some thick slime too) and after a week i could take deep, clean breaths again.
Since i came back i vaped a couple of times again and i feel my lungs are starting to feel a little restricted again. I will try to do some lower temp hits but if things stay that way, i have to quit vaping i guess.

Same boat bro, after about a week, it just "feels" like I can breathe SO MUCH EASIER. It's like you get used to vaping, and it becomes your new baseline, and unless you abstain enough between sessions you don't remember what that sober baseline is like. I recently went from an all day morning until night 2g/day vaperist, to cutting the dose in 1/2 to 1g and only vaping between 4-8pm and the results have been incredible! Some withdrawal effects as to be expected coming from my usage and history but overall better mood, cognitive function, breathing, sleep, motivation, etc.

I don't think you have to quit vaping altogether, although that may be the best antidote in the shorter term. That's my plan, cut back then quit for a few weeks to allow the body to return to homeostasis.

Depriving yourself of o2 even on a very low level for a long term is not good. What's your sp02 on average? Mine is anywhere from 94-98% which isn't too bad, but drops significantly when I sleep.

I just got off the phone with the nurse for my pulmonologist, she informed me I don't have asthma or emphysema. And since my primary care doc gave me antibiotics, to finish those up and see how I feel. Otherwise I can use the albuterol inhaler to relieve symptoms. I have ceased vaping until I find out what's going on, although my primary care Dr. Says I have mild obstructive disease but that doesn't explain the exponential increase in symptoms over the past 3-4 weeks. Guess ill just wait see if the antibiotics kick in and go from there....

Several people have suggested you try vaping through water. Did you try that? I don't have an allergy or asthma. But I do usually have a long coughing fit if I vape without water. It really doesn't matter if I use conduction or convection and it looks like you're hoping that the solution is switching to convection. If the FF2 doesn't help, try water before giving up. I do have breathing problems unrelated to vaping so I've experimented with any difference in 02 levels when I vape and when I don't. I've found no difference and the range is 96-98.
