I would like to know this too. I would also like to know how easy cleaning is. They all claim cleaning is easy, but for some devices it's simple not true.

Cleaning is mad easy. Just drop the mouthpiece in some iso for a little while and put a piece of paper towel or something that was soaked in iso into the bowl for 5 minutes or so. I also use a little brush that I bent into a J to clean out the bowl and mouthpiece lightly after every use. It only takes 5 seconds, makes it easier to do a deep cleaning, and it helps keep the mouthpiece from getting gunked up and losing airflow. Total cleaning time: 6 Minutes, most of which is spent waiting.

Yep! But it's not really a backup, but it could be I suppose...... it's for the wife!

Just viewed a video from their indigogo campaign...... was there some design changes to the front end? It almost looked and sounded like he meant to load herb into the mouthpiece? I think it looked different from mine as well.

Yes they changed the MP design. Keep reading!

I don't think so. I think it's mostly frustration based. And that seems to be mostly based on the level/quality of ghl communication. It's hard to know failure statistics, but it seems most unit problems are discussed.

But when someone has a good working gh, they LOVE it!

....also, don't forget about the Reddit thread or whatever they call it over there...
I wouldn't bother with reddit. I was on that sub but I left. The people there suck and their opinions change drastically from week to week. There's very little actual discussion there, mostly complaining about the failures from people that don't have a grasshopper yet. Yes, the grasshopper fails on occasion, just like all other products in the world. No product has a 100% success rate and HL is still a small company that is currently overwhelmed with orders. However, the quality of the product has been increasing with time and once HL is done with backers and pre-orders and ready for retail sale I'm sure we'll see a spike in customer service quality as well.

I don't do the Reddit either.
FC is chock full of helpful info and excellent posters. And excellent admin. (a nod to all Mods!).
I believe any worthwhile info on Reddit pretty much finds its' way over here anyway, so it's like a Reader's Digest. Only so many hours in a day!

not really any worse than the threads here, same wide range of opinions and experiences, though generally poorer grammar and spelling.

@biohacker - I'd recommend not worrying about what people were saying months/years ago and more focusing on what has been happening in the past few weeks, which has been mostly positive...

Received response to my "whining email" about my recent warranty claim, and am very impressed now! It was basically a miscommunication, and still need to send everything in. Makes sense, how can they know whether the issue is a back end, body, battery, etc? They explained that each warranty claim is processed on a case by case basis, and that they were going to test my for vapour output, and either repair or replace.

I also asked about preordering....and was told that March is already filled up with shipping, and that April is more realistic!

Off goes the Hopper to the Lab!

Yes but at least here there's real discussions and some useful info. On reddit it's all "When will my grasshopper get here?" posts and comments complaining about the long wait times. Every time a post is made about a failed hopper you'd think the world was ending. You can't have any discussions on reddit the way we're having a discussion right here. You're not even allowed to have an opinion if it isn't in agreement with the subs. Before, the accepted opinion was that HL was great, there were no problems besides the wait time, and the failures were due to an increase in shipping volume and sampling bias. Now, the accepted opinion is that HL is terrible, the grasshopper has more problems than should be acceptable in a vaporizer, and the failures are due to poor manufacturing and terrible quality control. If you dare to think differently, you get attacked by the community to the point where you decide "Fuck this" and up and leave. Oh, and let's not forget that the majority of those people don't even have a grasshopper and have never even seen or used one in person before, but they still have an opinion on it.

So pre orders are all scheduled out? Whatever that means? Website update coming soon with that special program they promised for so long and now never mention?! :suspicious::drool::uhoh:

That said, I feel like any ABV or debris blown into the heater should be able to come out the next time you take a hard rip, right?

The way I think of it is like when you burn something on a pan. It's really tough to clean those stains off the bottom of the pan without something abrasive. In the GH, since the heat source is enclosed there is no way to remove the burned on debris. This debris has a negative impact on heat transfer so will affect the performance of the device.

No reason to blow into chamber. On the other hand I see using compressed air blown into the inlet holes. I'm sure GHL will not recommend that but I can't see any harm in it.

So mine finally came last Friday. 12/12/13 backer with a Gray Ti & a SS... serial #s for both around 1200. My impressions are pretty consistent with what everyone else has said, but here are a few impressions anyway:

1) My first impression out of the box was the GH was smaller and lighter than I expected. I was ready for it to be a little bigger than a typical pen when in fact its exactly the size and heft of a typical nice pen. The Ti is very light...so much that I was worried that it would be flimsy at first. I have a W9 Tech "8" and that thing feels substantial and super rock solid in the hand. Upon further reflection though both GHs seem solid and well made though.

2) For those torn between the SS and Ti models who are wondering whether the Ti upgrade is "worth it", I have to say the differences between the units are very minor. I actually like the look of the SS better, in part because the pen clip on all models is made of SS so its a better visual match. The extra heft of the SS feels good in the hand (its still quite light), and I don't think the performance/heat differences are that noticeable. So if you're torn on which to get, I say get the SS and you wont be missing out on much.

3) Performance is great so far. This thing feels very powerful for a portable, and when you consider that its one of the smallest vapes out there you will appreciate how much HL has pushed the envelope of whats physically possible with the design. Vapor temp is warm and the unit does get warm, but no so much that I've felt the need to take the silicone thingie out of its wrapper. Its totally usable without it provided you use as intended...i.e clicking it off after a few hits and letting it recover for a sec before passing it to the next guy. But the flip side of it getting warm is that its nearly impossible to pull harder than the heater can manage. So I've been taking big rips with it which leads to fewer hits and less "sipping" to get the job done, and doing so probably keeps the unit much cooler than if I were taking slower pulls. I never take such huge rips with my Mighty for example...I don't think it keeps up as well... but with the GH it seems like it was designed to be used that way.

4) OK... I admit I may not be impartial after being a backer for 2+ years, so instead of hyping this thing up let me tell you what a few friends have said after trying it. These are the guys who have rolled their eyes every time I've said that the GH is coming and teased me mercilessly when it didnt (as only good friends can do). Net-net, they think its great and are ready to pre-order, even with all my warnings about slower-than-promised delivery times and potential reliability issues. There's one friend who hasn't tried it yet who tends to be sensitive to warmer vapes, so it has yet to be seen whether this will be a fit for him.

Anyway, so far so good with the Grasshoppers. Overall, I am truly impressed.

Thanks for your awesome post! Really appreciate the comparison between SS and the Ti! Now I don't have such a woody for the Ti anymore, and that's a pretty decent cost savings.

Does anyone know if they are planning a price hike after pre-orders are complete? Probably my biggest motivation for pulling the trigger right now.

I thought i remembered ghl saying something about that, but who can remember. That's a good reason for you to keep reading this giant thread! ;)

It makes sense that there will be a price increase after preorders close. The pricing compared to other vapes (plus considering its unique design and performance, build materials, etc.) justifies a higher price point, I think.

You know I'm a believer, so I think it's worth it to get in line now.

Just checked my email and my unit has shipped! Will be here tomorrow would be today if not a holiday but I can wait one more day haha. Any info on the oil front end at all? Is it still in the works for the future? And also does the stainless steel case work to keep the smell contained if I were driving around with it? Is it worth a purchase to be used for that?

Thanks!!

The case doesn't exist yet, so no one knows if it contains the smell. They said they are still planning the oil attachment. But don't hold your breath...

Oh ok I just checked the site and assumed it was available. I guess I'll just purchase it so I don't have to wait so long to get it.

Has anyone Tried using oil? Or will it just ruin the front end? Like mixing a little in with some bud? Just wondering if I should enemy attempt that at all.

Thanks
