Is a large 3 piece Santa Cruz shredder for $57 a good deal?

If I have to replace my SC I will be back to the old dilemma of 2, 3 or 4 piece but completely agree on 4 pieces being easier to get leverage on. My el cheapo 4 piece is considerably easier to grind initially with than my SC & the SC is bigger.

Debating on pulling the trigger on Newvapes fine grinder for $50 or the mflb finishing grinder for $23.

I have a pax2 and dbv.

Can someone give some input on which may be the better choice?

I just got the CALI CRUSHER HOMEGROWN 4 Piece Grinder ( pics to come). It's absolutely awesome! Great construction, the grind is so perfect. The herb comes out nice and fluffy and its practically impossible to get that very fine grind where it turns into dust. I suppose you could if you turned it upside down. The way the teeth are made in this piece you can literally get two different grinds. If you spin clockwise you get one type, counter another. This is a very unique grinder due to the teeth pattern and excellent for Vaping!!!

I cant describe it I'm fairly basic when it comes to Grinders, but the teeth are diamond shaped on one end and different on the other and long. Giving different grinds in different directions.

Haha! I love the versatility of the dbv. I can put a nug in the wand and it will work. I have also put in very fine powdered erb and it works effn beautiful!

I like the mflb finishing grinder. The one con is the size and how finicky it can be because of it. If not for that it would be a no brainer.

Newvapes fine grinder is larger and seems less finicky and more user friendly however I've never use one.

I'm all about ease of use and practicality. If the cost is more I don't mind.

A closer look. The left side is what I want everytime. The mflb finishing grinder gives me that. I've borrowed a friends and liked the results but did not like the difficulty of use. I'm starting to lean on the side of the Newvape fine grinder. Still undecided...

In a couple of the videos on YouTube I saw parts of the finish on the second chamber were missing. I'm assuming it's getting scratched off when spinning, but these were only prototypes so hopefully they will fix that issue before release.

OK I have read like 15-20 pages and I cant read much more I just need to buy a better grinder...

So far I've had a 4 pc Sharp stone grinder and when it broke I bought a cheap one that looked like it... but I dont like it

Now I've come to realize I really don't think I want a kief chamber... In fact I completely forget about the kief for months... So even tho it build up... meh

I just want all my pollen on the flowers,,, so I have narrowed my new grinder choices down and I think I want a 3 pc Santa Cruz Shredder..

I was wondering if since it is a 3 pc if the grind is diff than a 4pc with kief chamber? Is there any diff in grind?

I see them on ebay for 48$ ... Is there a better place... color lol I usually get black everything,,, but for some reason the hot pink or orange one is calling my name...

Any other 3 pc model I should be considering? recommendations for my first "good" grinder?

Yeah I kinda like em but cant see paying for something that is un tested then waiting 3 mo...

I really like the look of the Clipper 3 piece @steama & it may well get picked up as it is different. Grinders are one area where a $$$ purchase is an investment really as a good one should need nothing more than maintenance over a lifetime.

I picked up some nice outdoor sativa & the SLX is having no problems dealing with twice the amount of sativa as indica per grind load. If SLX made a 3 piece I would buy it in a heartbeat.

Have had my kannastor jar grinder for a few days now and all i can say is wow.

i have owned a 3 and 4 piece Santa Cruz, generic crank jar grinder, medtainer, Storz and Bikel acrylic grinder and a few other no name normal grinders.

i have always thought a grinder is a grinder to be honest. no need to pay a high price.

well i have now changed my mind. this kannastor is fucking awesome. hands down.

the only reason i bought it is because my hand is broken but i must say i plan to use this 24/7 even when I'm not injured

Seriously this is an A-Grade grinder right here and i usually dont give things such a positive review.

Like my only 2 complaints were :

it says the top screw on cap can hold an extra grinder plate and the extra keef screen. i have only been able to successfully fit in the extra grinder plate. But this may be an error by me and not experimenting enough, but with what i did i was not able to fit both. Either way i just leave the extra keef screen out. No issue at all.

Then next this isn't really a complaint, but a suggestion. They send 2 keef screens. Both size are the 60 mesh. Im sure its so they can sale/profit more, but why not include a different mesh sized 2nd screen instead of the 2nd same size 60 mesh? Once again this is no deal breaker in any way (as I'm sure a lot of users would remove the keef screen anyways) but i just thought it would be nice if so

Anyways there my review. Feel free to ask any questions. I know i haven't tried every grinder out there. But i must say that this has impressed my picky self

Clipper looks great, and hope it works as advertised.

Yet I do feel a bit strange about then not including an actual grind video of anything? Or did I just miss that?

I noticed that, I presume to make it a bit simpler in legal terms they just don't show any herb?

I love the SCS 3 piece, great choice. Really smooth action.
@Aimless Ryan will to answer your question on grind vs 4 piece. I'm sure he'll respond.

On color, I was considering black but then thought the "shiney" colors like their gloss black MIGHT show scratches or wear marks more easily ?? I tried their matte gunmetal and love the color and matte finish.

I also love the kannastor gr8tor. I also have the 3 piece SCS. I haven't found a use for kief and also prefer it mixed with my herb. But there is a storage area so you can have a small container to carry and I just put my ground herb and the kief in there together. I like that there are 2 grinder pieces for different size herb since some vapes need fine ground and others a little less fine.

Whatever I've said about screens in the past, forget it; I was full of it. I now want only the finest screen available, and I don't think that's going to change. Sorry if I misled anyone.

I have been using my mini 4-piece SCS (very tight/fine screen) for a few weeks, and it's starting to become very clear that I get much blonder kief from this grinder than from any of my other grinders, which all have coarser screens. I don't know why I couldn't see this before, but it may be because the kief tray on my mini is black (rasta), which seems to make the kief look darker/greener than it really is; at least when there is not much kief in it.

Back left: 56 mm 5-piece Diamond Grind.

Front: Mini 4-piece SCS.

I am 100% with you on fine screens. In fact, I am in the market for a new SCS, but am hesitant to buy anything online. I only want to buy in person so I can confirm I am getting the older fine screen.

I was thinking of you when I had that revelation and when I wrote that post. Like others, I am inclined to think fine SCS screens are a thing of the past. I understand why they may have gone exclusively to coarse screens, but I also think it's a bad decision. Especially considering how ridiculously porous their coarser screens are.

Had my Santa Cruz Shredder for years and I absolutely love it!
I really like the teeth design, grind consistency, durability, and overall quality.
My SCS went through pounds and it is still going strong.

I just love how the SCS looks & feels.

I've grinded very large amounts before and it has worked completely fine.

The teeth design on this thing is something else.


The threading works great even with all this crap on it.


I personally like how fine the screen is. I find that every bowl I pack has a bit kief on it

My teeth are fine, the only reason I've been seeking a replacement is I've dropped the pieces so many times onto my concrete floors, it simply does not screw together well anymore and threads don't catch right.

If anyone has a source for older fine screen scs, please post em up!

@FlyingLow I am on a hunt for an old SCS large 4 piece myself. I am going to check every head shop in my area for old stock. If I find any ones with the old fine screens I will let you know.

I ordered a small 4pce close to a year ago and just was lucky to be sent old scs stock. I have since downsized to just two grinders and got rid of the rest.

Did anybody see the industrial size grinder SCS just came with for dispensaries and collectives. It's ridiculous!

Why not get a Space case or Kannastor? I love my Space Case and I think all 3 are pretty comparable, Plus Space Case still has the fine screen (pretty sure Kannastor does too). In fact I cannot really tell a difference in the grind of the SC and my SCS? May as well go with a competitor if they screwed their product up by putting in a cheaper screen. Maybe they will change it back

It seems to me one problem is that if you get an old SCS, you're also stuck with some old design features that have been nicely refined on newer models.

One thing I really like about my two (newer?) small 4-pieces is the extension above the threading, which makes it very easy to engage the threading, compared to my large and mini (which seem to be older models). That feature may not matter to most of you, but it matters a lot to me because MS has made me a total klutz.

The extension also deepens the hopper and seems to guide fine material away from the threading and into the hopper.



I'm pretty sure the blue one is the newest grinder in the picture. Everything about it is perfect except the porous screen and the vertical grooves on the male edge of the lid. However, one of those two things is completely unacceptable (grooves), and the other is becoming completely unacceptable (screen).

usually I grind usually once a month or two ...
