We all like different ways?

I've tried many configuration and have formed my own philosophy!

To answer your question I think the 18mm PHVES is the best for the D020 a stock GonG is useless in my unqualified opinion.

I have a old SOLO so maybe my logic is wrong?

The VOrtex STEM is pretty clever however in a GonG configuration might work well? I don't know? Haven't tried!

It's not the device anyway!

CANNABIS is the true grail!
Some like a SHORTY however they don't provide the dose necessary for my needs!
You might like them?
Get both and see what suits your needs?
Besides health their is geographical challenges!
Were I live CANNABIS is abundant and cheap!

ataxian,

I will shoot for the PVHES 18mm non vortex GonG. I need a big dose as well, so I'll take your first hand experience which is much appreciated. Looking forward to completing this setup! Can't spring for 2 at this time unfortunately.

Thanks

A short gong has to be more stable than a standard stem just because of the lower centre of gravity, doesn't it? I'm going to go looking for some stainless tubing later, the hickory drumsticks I have are just the right diameter. One thing I haven't decided yet is how to build up the bong end into a nice cone shape; it wants something better than just teflon tape.
edit: The first rumble through my parts shelf turned up a Bohemian beer draft tap handle with a tapered brass fitting on the bottom that looks like it might go 18mm! That could be the afore-mentioned bottom end. If this fits I'm going to expect stuff to just keep falling on me. I'll need a 'stent' of some kind to join it to the stem. edit: I immediately came across the inner tube portion of a broken liquor pourer, which should slide right in if I drill out some threads in the fitting, but I'd rather get it to almost fit then heat the fitting and sweat it on.

The Vortex stem is awesome. You can go higher in the temp department and get all those pain reliving properties of your medicine. I highly recommend it. I just have a couple of the long straight stems. I want to buy a bent Vortex stem, not sure if they have come out with it yet? PlanetVape said they were going to have one made.

I'm curious about the Vortex GonG? Is that worth getting?

I have the vortex gong and the bent vortex stem. They are nice and function very well.

My recommendation is that if you need another GONG it works well, but i don't know if it worth $30 if not needed.

The $37 shipped is a little steep. I've been looking at the solo gong from PIU for $19 shipped. Anyone have any experience with it? I've tried to read back and haven't seen much.

Thanks

The brass fitting off the beer tap fits pretty good, I dropped it into the bubbler and got good action so it isn't perfect and isn't glass but I think it'll work. Now the hard part begins, not drilling out the wood or necessarily fitting the bowl (I still need my stainless tubing and to talk to my mechanic friend about his snap ring pliers and snap rings). I don't know how my pipe cutter will do on stainless and lacking a chop saw for metal I may have to use an angle grinder. The notches for airflow I can cut with my die grinder and compressor. I think the hard bit may be drilling the little holes to peg the bowl onto the stem but as the Kennedys used to say "I'll drive off that bridge when I come to it".

That's just the 14mm size. Puffitup doesn't have the 18mm unless you wanted to order the JoDa GonG for the Air or a WonG and those cost more. I wish PIU would add that 18mm size to their cheaper GonG line up. Maybe you have a water tool that needs the 14mm size.

When Sunshine shipped my bubbler they threw a 14F to 18M adapter in with it so I could use a 14mm gong, which was nice - they're worth a few bux.

I hit a small snag finding the right tubing for the bowl portion of my gong and stem project, but only because the first place I went to (which I thought would have it) didn't have it. Next stop will probably be another metal supplier, a medical oxygen supplier then independent welders. The tubing I found for my fishing banksticks was medical grade oxygen line out of a hospital. Since the lengths I need are so small chances are decent if I find someone who uses it in the diameter I need I can get end-cuts cheap or for free.

I wonder where you go to find a rubber stopper with a hole in it?

I get mine at a home brew supply store.

With all this discussion about gongs, I just have to mention that I have been using the same two "homemade"gongs for a couple of years(actually a local glassblower made them for me out of broken EQ elbows and that rather useless aroma therapy dish that came with your Solo.)

Homebrew store is also good for tubing, PBW and of course lovely beer.
I have a dilemma, Solo or Air?

Having your own home grown cannabis and wonderful home brewed beer only 30 feet away from home certainly has its' advantages.

Unless you really need something more stealthy, I would personally go with the Solo because of the longer times between charges. The Solo lasts about two hours and the Air only one hour. I actually have two Solos and charge one while using the other.

I use to love beer!

I have no gluten whatsoever.

Wine in CALIFORNIA is not horrible at all!

I got a new HYDROtube from FC.
Playing around with the SOLO and it seems to work better than a PNWT?

Kind of bigger?

I don't care about size!

My SOLO won't die?

Since no one is here anymore one last thing!
You can make anything work if you have desire and fittings!
My FCHYDROTUBE works fine.

I wasn't looking to buy another air or solo, i already know the pleasures of owning both.
I know my communication skills leave a lot to be desired especial when it comes to typing.:myday:

@Bravesst I'm sure you will love the Solo as much as the Air, maybe even more.

So the question was: Which one to use rather than which to buy.

A claison adaptor would enable both to be used at once...wet or dry.

I use that adapter a lot with Solo and EQ; both contributing to some awesome vapor.

(But I'd bet you already have one of those with 3 Solos already!!)

I think the perfect vape for me would be the Solo with a heating chamber of the Grasshopper. I don't need stealth or portability (just vaping without cable), but the Solo is a kind of slow extractor. A fast mode would be excellent. The grasshopper seems to work really well but has temperature problems with the full metal design and the battery lasts just for 1-2 bowls

Everything in moderation, I always say.

Yup! Moderates me just fine:rofl::

Of course I have now upgraded that setup with Ddave parts for an even better experience.
I use this when I really want to get high. The combined effect of the two devices is really killer. I use weed mostly for pain and this really gets the job done. Definitely for the evening!!

The brand new Solo's battery will last over 2 hours. It will degrade over time. Mine is 2 years old and the battery lasts an hour. It really depends on how much the unit is working, how often you use your vaporizer.

It's the work horse of portables is what I say. The battery can be replaced over time by the owner. There is a video available with instructions. FCer @CentiZen sells them.

This unit will last the owner for many years years of service. A great vaporizing tool to have.

My beloved PVHEGonG broke today... :(

It started a week or so ago, when I noticed a crack had formed that went 2/3 of the way around the stem. I'm not sure exactly how it happened, possibly from torching it to get reclaim, or possibly from dropping it:

It was still usable with the crack. I knew it was gonna break sooner or later, but I was careful with it and I got a good week of use out of it. Then today, right at the end of my session...

So, now I guess I need to order a new one. I'm just debating as to whether I should get the Vortex one or another regular PVHE...

Decisions, decisions... :sherlock:
