Just making the charcoal drills, then packing em up! So soon. They look awesome. Some neat new colours to show off.

Also a note about the last batch, what I thought was bocote, was actually cocobolo, it was just a different colour cocobolo... it can come in browns, purples, oranges, reds...etc... but most often ages to a dark reddish orangey brown.

This batch is all cocobolo, save for a few special requests...

on a different topic, a frequent use of the Okin has its downsides in form of dwindling charcoal reserves. :) are you going to post a tutorial on how we can make our own to achieve the quality of yours? it it is possible at all.

I am going to make a tutorial. It IS possible, granted you have access to a woodstove, or firepit. The quality is very similar, but perhaps not as consistent, depending on how much effort you want to put into it.

I am going to play around with the technique to make it easier for people to do at home and get good results. I have a feeling that a pre-bake in the oven will increase size consistency, slow heating in the early stages seems critical to avoid moisture escaping the wood too fast, causing cracks and warps.

The hardest part of the entire process is cutting the dowels to size. Which will require a saw. I will compile a list of suitable saw blades available (globally) for cheap.

The tutorial that @VAPEHUNTER posted above is exactly how it should be, just replace the bamboo with soft maple dowels in 5/8" diameter, cut to 5/8" lengths. You could cut them longer or shorter to experiment as well!

The newest pictures are beautiful as always. I am one of the last on the list, and have never been so content waiting on a product in my life. Not 100% sure all the factors of why I am so content, but seeing what work goes into each Okin is certainly a part of it.

Take your time Dan, I will be happy when my number is called, but the pictures help me wait. Cheers.

Oh they really do look completely stunning!

Definitely looking to be the discerning gentleman's vape. Or discerning lady of course.

I feel that I will most likely, and quite simply be admiring mine for sometime before the thought will even occur to me that I can actually put it to use, as what may well be the most elegant, & finely hand-crafted vaporizer I will ever put to my lips!

So, Dan, I must ask you, is there a vegan Okin (a vOkin if you will) among those that you were kind enough to give us a preview of yesterday . . . ? ;)

Oh, & Happy New Year bud!

Peace.

Yep! The raw one on the end of that row of coloured boxes in the first picture is the vegan special.

Box/okin is finished in vegan mineral oil, the Kraft paper is treated with a synthetic museum quality wax. The kraft sleeve is a bit lighter in colour compared to the the beeswax/mineral oil, but should be just as protected. I also experimented with different vegan recipes including petrolium wax/mineral oil pastes and coconut oil, but they didn't work out as well.

Thank you Dan!

Y'know, I feel blessed to be given the opportunity to own a piece of your amazing work, & the fact that you have been kind enough to spend time making changes to some elements of your design to accommodate my vegan lifestyle makes it to me, even more special. And I hope you can understand just how much it means to me :luv:

It's really quite a big thing to me.

I really appreciate you going to the effort that you did to experiment & find alternative methods that still suited your overall design.

Oh, did I say thank you?!

Seriously Dan, Thank you so much

i don't think the admiring part is going to work forever. at some point you will feel the desperate urge to light one of those charcoals and to take a draw. ;)

Well I take your point, but I never said it'd be forever! ;)

However, times are hectic right now & I plan to wait until things have settled down at least a little bit so that I can be fully engaged and take the the time to really appreciate and enjoy the 'getting to know you' stage of this new relationship.

After all, I'm not the type to rush these sort of things.

And I believe that the Okin deserves so much more than a hurried introduction, at a time when my mind is elsewhere.

No, no, I will be taking my sweet-sweet time, with what is looking to be, an exquisite piece of fine functional artistry

For anyone who doesn't check their email often, I have sent the final photographs of your Okins, and it's ready to ship. This applies to people 11-20 in line (and number 22, because I had an extra Raw boxed Okin left over, and 22 was the next in line who wanted a raw boxed okin).

7 Okins in this batch are already on their way!

@VAPEHUNTER - Your email will come later this week or early next week. I am finishing up your bamboo stem!
