Having never used the Firefly (I seem to recall reading somewhere that it was really finicky, and the battery life was concerning to me), I am getting pumped.

Sorry if this has already been mentioned, but @mitchgo61 or anyone know the release date?

Tired searching "date" + "release" in this thread to no avail.

I'm so close to buying a grasshopper, but this really throws a spanner in the works.

Alas, no release date. Not even sure what kind of time frame to expect. I think they are very close to the end of the process, but they are still able to make small changes, and when you add in manufacturing/marketing/distribution...even if they were completely done it wouldn't be ready to ship next week or anything. :p

I wish I knew more. If/when I hear anything concrete (that they tell me is sharable) I will pass it on. I'm pretty freaking anxious myself. The prototype is fun, but I want a real, finished, GOLD FF2.

Man, I am so hyped for this thing after reading mitchgo's write up (btw, I fucking love Coheed dude.) My FF1 has served me well and remains my go to, so any upgrades at all to it makes this a no-brainer for me. The 770s made a big enough difference, so doubly improved battery life from there, plus a more portable unit AND temperature control? My money-Shut up and take it. No screen for the bowl is a welcomed change as well. I hope they bring back the red though... It's so sexy.

Nice! Not sure where all the FC 'heed fans are hiding. :p

You summed it up nicely. (Add in "works more easily and consistently" and you have all the major improvements.). The no-screen thing is a godsend. I'm not sure if red is one of the colors or not...I will attempt to clear that up along with a few other things I'm unclear on.

That temp control is that only through the app?

Yes, at least in the prototype stage, though I don't think there are any plans to change it. For a prototype that has some bugs, and an app that's still being tested, they both work really well together.

Sadly, on January 3rd, 2016, my beloved silver Firefly went suddenly and inexplicably dark. Mid -bowl (Blue Dream @ 23.5 %). Fuck. I mailed it to the repair department the very next day. I feel like my dog has wandered away, or something like that. And now this: the Mitch61 glowing report on the magnificent Firefly2 . What next ? ! ? ! Thus, I am melting in anguish. While I can hear the ticking of the clock on the safe return to roost of my beloved Firefly, I am beginning to yearn, heavy, to possess Firefly2. Pray for me sister, for the sun shines on both sides of the cat's butt. Bam. :bang:

@mitchgo61 Got any oil head friends who want to take that thing for a rip?

I'm dying to know how it does with oil. The oil market SUCKS for portables IMHO. All trash to me. The firefly 1 with concentrate pad is okay. Good flavor etc, but a lot of work for small oil hits.

I'm hoping the firefly 2 makes oil usable on the go for me. I just hate all the options for portable oil so much, it would be a nice bonus in a herb vape.

I am wondering the same and also share the same opinion. I have high hopes for 2016 since concentrates are becoming a lot more popular.

They are such teases. Guess this is the gold cover. You can see a teeny bit of the FF2 here. The black prototype lid is a bit different...in the picture the bezels around the outside of the lid itself, and the port window, are noticeably wider than the prototype. Finished version looks much snazzier, IMO.

EDIT: Looks like they've posted all the colors. Black, Silver, Gold, Blue, Red. On second thought, liking that blue a whole lot....:\

With all the promotion of FF2, I certainly hope they don't keep us waiting much longer. Anticipation is ok, but only to a certain point. (Says he who cancelled his grasshopper order)

Not crazy about the shades of most colors but I'm color blind partially, and I don't really care. Worst case that black looks sleeeeeeek.

Also whats with the hot chick smoking a joint LMAO. Kinda weird for a VAPE company to post? Again, not complaining.

I don't know what color I'd go with. Prob gold just because gold is always cool. ALWAYS. Gotta see if the local headshop is getting these in quick enough to see them all in person etc.

I still think I'm gunna be putting oil in one in my own hands before @mitchgo61 finds someone to get his prototype all sticky.

That post (or what ever you call it on Instagram; not active over there) was kinda copy&pasted from ganjayoga... They just added some lines.

Thanks for sharing the pics. Looks very nice. Let's see what it's gonna be! :)

Hah! I'm still waiting for the call or text demanding SEND IT BACK!! Wouldn't want it all gunked up.

Actually I've been coached through some firmware changes to the heat settings and am testing the changes now. I think they've improved this thing again!

What I do think understand is if the unit has 2 buttons, why they didn't make possible to change temps one of them?

Guess an app changes temps.

Just because something CAN be done, doesn't necessarily mean it SHOULD be done. Using an app sounds like a nuisance, unless one settles in at their "best" temperature. I, for one, prefer lower temps in the daytime, and higher at night. Aside from that, which I could probably live with, @mitchgo61 has me very interested in the FF2.

But, come on, Firefly, you know you'll sell more units if you add direct temperature control. If you can, you should.

^ exactly my thoughts. I mean, it's not gonna be a problem for me 'cause I always have my phone with me. But it would be better to have the option and not depend of it just in case you run out of battery, lost the phone or whatever.

Without having concrete confirmation of this, I'm just gonna make a relatively safe guess that it's too late in this process for them to add local temp control. They've already started marketing photos of finished product (promising more very soon), even the prototype I'm testing has been superseded by a newer version (the pix don't quite match!) and the final pieces they are asking me to play with involve firmware changes to the app heat settings. These can still be tweaked in the final stages of the product because the FF2 can accommodate firmware changes at any time, from what I can tell.

The good news is this theoretically makes it easier to enhance settings on existing products already in the hands of users. (Better to do an app update to fix or add settings than sending it back, right?) Plus I've found at least three of the settings can be used for 80% or more of a bowl, making the app use less urgent or even necessary in all cases.

I agree that in a perfect world you could change these settings with a button on the FF2. I just don't think that's in the cards at the moment. So I'm gonna play the hand they dealt us, and hopefully enjoy it. :)

I'm gonna order one for sure, just curious about why they avoided temp control in the unit.

Also I love that the unit can have firmware changes and the app will too. That way they can improve the unit without you having to send it back :D
