Discontinued The Grasshopper

there are reports in Reddit that vapor from Firefly taste better than vapor from GH. Firefly got stainless steal vapor path entirely. so why does stainless GH taste different?
Two reasons imo. The vapor is much cooler out of the firefly, which greatly affects taste. The second reason they taste different is the firefly has a glass bowl. I still use my firefly around the house for kicks

Got the new unit back today. I can say that it feels like there's been advancements in the desgin or process of building them. The clicker feels much smoother, easier to press. The charger is easier to pull off. The mouthpiece (as someone else noted) doesn't thread on as easily, there is a bit of turn resistance right before it's tight (this isn't bad). I'm sure this will go away after putting it on and off though.

Everything worked fine on the load I did. So, fingers crossed for hopping longer than 2 weeks

Edit add: Forgot, when looking down the barrel with the tip off the view is also visually a little different. Like those little pieces everyone was talking about look different.

My 3rd backend is running very well - 1st had hot backend issues, 2nd had miscalibrated dial (essentially no temp setting as others have reported). #3 temp steps beautifully and lasts longer (3 bowls) than the previous two. Got flashing red/blue a couple times on startup, fixed by off/on, and a couple times when connecting to the charger I get red/blue flash, pause, repeat, fixed by reconnecting till it goes away. So a couple doubts, but overall performance is excellent, this is my daily driver (Firewood 3.0 is my backup, cleaner flavor but requires measured breath and a little warmup time so it's my 4min "session" vape and the hopper is <2min "instant results" vape) and I'm just gonna run it this way. Unless it dies completely or falls apart, I won't put in another warranty request till post-backers and preorders.

Yes, the Firewood 3 that I received is the same exact model that I purchased. As opposed to the 8 fucking warranty returns that I have had to make with the 2 different grasshoppers under my care.......
To compare taste, you have to account for the overpowering "heat" that the GH can muster at higher settings. The FW3 does not seem to carry as much heat with each "hit". I think the GH and FW3 are real close with regards to taste.

The GH puts the hit in your face faster, the FW3 won't/has'nt yet flash pretty colors at you and then shit the bed.

edit for content and upbeat tempo...

This, and the Firewood has a cleaner (mostly glass) and a little longer airpath, which gives it a slight flavor edge. The Firewood heats by a thick stainless steel coil, so it's slower to heat up initially than the hopper. First couple hits (if you go straight into it as I do) you have the regular convection portable issue, getting moisture out of the herb, plus the big coil coming up to temp, so overall my Firewood sessions are 2x the length of my hopper sessions. Once everything is warmed up, back-to-back-to-back medium draw hits are easy and awesome. Results are strong and clean, both vapes are great extractors and I'd say Firewood has the edge. Two excellent vapes - hopper wins for easiest, but Firewood is an awesome small-batch-crafted convection vape, these're the only two I have and I use both (also a pre-order for the Zion single bat, do you see the theme here? Yes, watching the FireFly2 thread, also)

Friends, I have the opportunity to purchase a GH for less than retail when released, and it is BNIB. I used to follow the thread before release, but somehow lost interest and now I feel behind but need to make a quick decision! I have and love the Crafty (and Mighty) but the ultra stealth of the GH is tempting. From a quick thread glance, I notice many issues with the GH, and since i'm buying it from a classified ad, the person indicates that you can only process warranty through the online account, and says he will transfer the info to mine and give me "keys to the account". He says all he has is the paypal transfer for the Indigogo campaign.

Should I pounce on this? Or pass!? :hmm:

This has me questioning my GH preorder.
I'm more than happy with the FW3.
It provides bigger hits than I can take.
Not sure if GH would make my starting line up now?
Taste/flavor is #1 on my list of needs.

I'm kind of worried that non of my preordered convection portables are going to make the line up!

Take a look at @ShayWhiteGrow posts/videos, might make your decision a bit easier.

I would do it biohacker, I have a Crafty and Mighty as well but the GH brings something different to the table. All three are great vapes but the GH is IMO, simply the best portable vape do to its size, construction and fast efficient heat. Sure the GH has had problems, its a new vape from a new company so problems are bound to happen but once you try it, you will know that this vape will be around for a while and surely GHL will fix these issues because it is really a special vape and they know it. If I had to have absolutely 1 portable vaporizer, I would have to pick the GH over my Crafty because of the removable battery, lifetime warranty, super efficient, super easy to clean, super fast, super tasty, great design and build quality despite the issues. The Crafty may have a slight edge in flavor due to the better cooling properties and it may be easier / more comfortable to hold and less hot but the GH wins in almost ever other aspect. My 2 cents......

Thank you friends!!! The trigger has been pulled and i'm hoping it's in my hands before the end of the week! This is so unexpected... kinda like it just fell into my hands!

Is there anything I need to know, or buy? AFAIK, it is the basic stainless indigogo backer GH with no extra batteries or parts. I would hope it includes the silicone sleeve for water tool mating? It mates to 14mm correct, but not 18mm? It has a LIFETIME warranty? That is amazing.... I have 200+ pages to read now!

The batteries are proprietary for GH but can be charged with Nitecores?

Thanks again!! STOKED!!!

If you want to convert 18mm you can simply get a male to male adapter. The GH with silicone fits right on top of oil rig style glass. You can also get away with an 18mm bowl slide and fit the silicone into the hole (make sure you've cleaned it!). Honestly, I've used the GH through glass in the most unconventional ways, but as long as you have a seal it works great every time.

Anything you think is going wrong with the Hopper you can send a warranty request and within a few days they'll get back to you and either troubleshoot or tell by the symptoms what they need to do, and they will replace it. You do have to pay shipping unless it seems you are unable to consistently do so due to international shipping costs.

The i2/d2 is probably best because you can safely charge 1 battery at a time - the i4/d4 recommend smaller batteries to be charged in pairs. By GH Labs, charging batteries are not covered under warranty, however I don't think the batteries are covered anyway from what I've seen so far. In any case, the only important thing to know is the standard Grasshopper charger must be use with a UL listed USB port.

It would be awesome if we could gather all of the pages/posts with useful info (separate speculative, review, and "know how"). Something akin to The Best of FC, but something that could be done for every thread (this would be so much work though :p).

For anyone interested in just how easy and fast it is to use the Grasshopper in public, here's a quick story:

My friend and I went to a smokeshop so he could get a bowl piece. After, we stopped in at Jack in the Box. On the way out to the car, upon leaving the building I turned on the Grasshopper. After about 5 steps I was hitting the unit. By the time we reached his car, no more than 25-30 feet away, I had the unit off, in my pocket, and was exhaling a nice hit above his vehicle. The whole thing took less than a minute, and I was pleasantly high. My friend didn't notice, but just looked at me. :nope:

:lmao:

This is exactly what I'm looking for!!! If I can walk to my room, click it on, walk to the back to let the dog out and be hitting it, I'm golden!

I've got a pre-order scheduled to ship in Feb, a blue Ti, SS case, extra batteries and such and really looking forward to it. May just cancel the case and get one of #Rachette 's leather cases, soooo sweet!

Have to say, I'm about 40 pages behind on this thread and catching up fast, and I really hope by the time I get there that things have turned for the better. If not, I don't think I can keep reading this one, you guys are terrible! Please take my opinion for just that and realize that it's from the perspective of someone that just ordered in December (found the thread late Nov) and hasn't been on the ride the whole time, and I acknowledge that.

But... this was a known start up company, putting out their first vap! As a general rule, I don't buy anything first run, even from known high standard companies like Honda or Toyota, because you know you'll have to live with the hiccups. I wait. How is it that everyone bought into the hype from the company that was trying to get you to help fund their project? From an outsiders perspective, fund raising to first runs being shipped in 2.5 - 3 years is pretty good for first time business owners/developers.

I hope everyone understands that I'm typing this with a smile on my face, I'm not trying to be antagonistic and find some humor in all of this. This truly was not intended to start a "this is my story and why" response (please). I'm really hoping when I catch up that shipping schedules are caught up, batteries are back in stock, all the early gremlins have been removed and everyone is talking about mods and usage!

Considering the form factor of the vape, it was kinda something people have been looking for ever since the ecig market has brought the sleek 'pen' size vapes. Grasshopper labs realized this market demand for a dry herb pen vape that is actually quality design and materials, and made a very smart move with the crowdsourcing startup funds. Right place, right time, solid execution.

Its just going too slowly!

I certainly don't think you'll regret it man. As much as I have bitched about the GH shipping, I think this vape is a game changer for alot of people.

2016 will be a good year for FC.

Oh man, you guys really got my stoke on even more! I was absolutely glued to this vape before this actual thread started. I just became frustrated with all the delays, and started to doubt the product and then just gave up when I realized I wouldn't actually have one for a very long time, and just appreciated the portability of my Crafty. Now I realize just how lucky I am to be even able to own one and for such an incredible price! To add to the storey, it was purchased from an engineer that just received his backer GH from 2 years ago, and has a PAX that does him just fine? I really hope i'm not going to be disappointed by this BNIB backer GH, but the fella had a solid eBay feedback, website, etc. and seemed very pleasant and professional. Don't think i'm getting scammed (used PayPal), but still kinda feels too good to be true!

Lots of reading in this thread today! Thanks again guys, love the confidence for the GH!

With the silicone sleeve does the Grasshopper mate up seamlessly with an 18mm water pipe or do you need additional hardware?

I think you should get an extra battery. And take a look at @Ratchett's leather case. I got one and don't even have my gh yet!

Hi
finally got my hopper :)
well, it is the smallest vaporizer, still a big chamber compare to other ceramic chamber vapes.
Taste (especially if you put in a small amount of stuff) is excellent.
The only thing i don't understand is, why is shut off automatically after 10s, wen it isn't nearly hot ?
so i must turn it off and on again and again.....?
i do solve that by pressing on button on the half way, so i just release it and it goes of, kind of manual mode, but i am not sure if that is OK
