The XTAR is the more expensive of the two, but has much better reviews. Should this be the one to go for?

i ordered Xtar. i like that fancy display with many kind of meters on it. just because of that. otherwise both chargers are doing a good job. so does vaporists say in forums.

Cool, thx man. I'll try it. We are talking about that black oil / grease looking stuff, right?

From the front tip of the mouthpiece. It should amass into a blackish but if you spread it on something like a paper or your fingers it will be more golden. I think the black comes from plant matter in it (happens with my Arizer Air stems, gold wherever herb isn't lol). On the Grasshopper it wont really be found anywhere else, the inside chamber always comes out clean, and the screen seems to only amass herb around the sides, not as much oil until it gets to the cone tip.

I don't use what I get because it gets a little gunky with fur or pocket fuzz.

I think I'm the only one who has a completely spare mouthpiece... I'll look into maybe trying to disassemble it. I am afraid to break something though

I'm taking a t-break for a few months, so no more Hopping or Soloing for me for a while. However, when I was using my Hopper for the last supper, I noticed that I was getting a lot of draw resistance. I took off the mouthpiece and cleaned off the screen, but that didn't help. I then looked at the tip of the mouthpiece and noticed that there was a lot of oil buildup. I used a pair of pointy tweezers to scrape it out, and ended up with enough for a nice reclaim load!

I think there's probably still a lot more oil in there that I wasn't able to get, due to the tip's tiny diameter. However, if one could remove the screen from the tip, there'd definitely be a lode of gold awaiting. I didn't do it because I didn't want to ruin the screen, as I don't think anyone has removed and replaced theirs yet.

I have removed the mouthpiece screen with a tool I made and it does help you clean every bit in there but I'm not so sure if it's necessary to take the mouthpiece apart to clean it. I do because I was curious to see what was up there and to see if it had to be removed to clean it thoroughly. See the pics of the tool and the insides below:

From the LOOKS of it the plastic piece sits between the screen and the pen cap to funnel all of the air pressure and resins directly out of the mouthpiece.

I used to be paranoid of plastics, but if it is peek plastic it should be all good. Plus it sits far enough away from the heater.
Besides the mighty is close to being ALL plastic and I paid good money to vape out of that plastic.

I'm sure the plastic is safer than the air we breathe outside.

To me it looks like it may be a firmer type of silicone...just because the way the metal feet look like they are pushing into it.

That sentence kind of upends the rest of your point for me. Sorry.

It would be nice if they identified what that plastic-looking piece actually is. There was so much talk earlier about vapor path. Even if it's not a harmful substance, it almost always affects the taste.

I am really interessted what the purpose of ths plastic thing is?
is it a heatshield? is its purpose that the mouthpiece is not getting to hot at the tip?
does it helps to cool the vapor?
or should it hold the screen?
or some other magic....
do you really need it...
and what is it made of?

I hope that the plastic can withstand super high heat and doesn't degrade over time. This is probably something that we will be able to buy seperatly I'm hoping. Some plastic can get brittle over time even those for vaporizers.

I like a glass air path.

No worries there's a lifetime warranty with this unit. No sure if that will always be the case.

I'm guessing, by the looks of it (and its location at the hottest part of the hopper) that this mystery piece is actually heat resistant silicone and not "plastic." It looks like sort of a bushing between the screen and the copper (brass?) cone. Further, it appears to me that it may slightly compress, helping to hold the front end in place.
I'm also guessing that without this piece the tip would get even hotter than its reported to get now.
@Just Justin , is that cylinder piece with the 3 tips in the first pic your removal tool? If so, could you possibly show the body in a shot with the tool also, for a frame of reference? (If you have time)
Can you also please describe how you remove the screen? Is it threaded? Is it a quarter turn? Does the screen just snap into place with a precision/springy feel? Thanks in advance!

In seriousness, dosing people? Not cool. Dosing animals? Even MORE not cool.
time and place, and exceptions to every rule

Some pets and their people are capable of getting high together, others are not.

_______

Meanwhile this plastic (incl. and probably silicone) mouthpiece is a thing, I'd say that's also not cool but similarly not inherently bad

no worries. HopperLabs already announced that they are working on a glass bubbler for HG. no need of plastic crap if vapor is water cooled. i really hope that it will be all new mouthpiece, not attachment to existing one.

when i receive my GH i will remove that plastic thing asap. hot mouthpiece not a problem. because i will use it trough a bong at home or trough Arizer bubbler when on a go. problem is a plastic in vapor path. this is a taboo for me.

this modification shouldn't be a problem to receive a warranty service, right?

I kind of doubt they put some non functional piece of plastic (or silicone) in there for no reason. Might well be an essential part holding things together, or maybe it IS only for insulation.

They are working on a bubbler, or do you just mean the water pipe adapter?

Just looking at the photos I'm guessing that it also serves to "focus" the vapor, so there's a lot less reclaim collection on the walls of the cone. Just speculation...

GH's silicone sleeve is a water pipe adapter. in last update they announced that a bubbler mouthpiece for GH is coming. they didn't mentioned if it will be an attachment or brand new mouthpiece, though.

lol how come? that thing fits with all bongs and rigs. just dip it in and rip. what else you need to adapt?

It works as one, but it's not intended as one. It's intended to make the device more usable for those sensitive to the heat of the naked mouthpiece.

It fits in 14mm bongs (I can't speak for 18mm) but you have to hold it, otherwise it tilts over.
Without the silicone sleeve the GH fits pretty perfect in 14mm but sometimes it gets a little stucked and maybe color GH's can get some scratches (but that's just guessing, mine is stainless steel and has no scratches so far).
