next generation e-nails?

I don't think plug placement matters, most designs out there just copy D-Nail's which I think is why that's the predominant configuration.

Got my new Gimido 5-pin XLR model, it was shipped DHL and arrived in only 5 days from Shenzhen, China. It's the same as my last one except for the plug and it's missing a heater cutoff switch due to it. If I ever need to monitor the temp as it drops (ie for cleaning or travel) I'll just set the temp below 80F. Only other difference is the front and back plates are black instead of a single colour throughout (it's blue on the other 4 sides) and a couple of the buttons are a bit fiddly but it's a minor annoyance.

Thanks! I actually just got a response from D-Nail concerning the use of their heaters with non-D-Nail controllers. The "Custom Shop" manager told me that on a case-by-case basis only, if we contact him directly @ the Custom Shop (do not contact the normal customer support rep's or you will run into problems like I did) and he can verify all electrical specs and wiring for our box prior to heater purchase, he will likely provide the standard warranty! In cases where it can't be verified over the phone or email (no multimeter or customer is clueless), if we send the box to him and he verifies compatibility, the same will likely also apply! If things aren't wired correctly, and if it's safe to do so, he has the option to: (1.) re-wire your box to make it compatible (small fee), (2.) create an adapter for you (small fee), or (3.) create a custom wired heater for your unit (no fee). As to Gimido, yeah same wiring specs so things should all match up!

D-Nail Custom Shop: custom@d-nail.com

* [UPDATED] Side Note, I should also add (just incase anyone cares). D-Nail has no plans to upgrade the 1.2 DIY kit to 1.3. That makes sense if you think about it because the only real changes I can see in the 1.3, are the addition of an extra plug in the back of the unit and an updated case with color options. Neither of these really apply to the DIY as they can be easily added and then some. Both also use the same PID (obvious yes, but I figured I would state it).

Thanks for the confirmation on the wiring, if anything goes wrong I'll cross that bridge when it comes to it but I should be safe. Good info for other people too in the same situation.

I was wondering if they'd upgrade the DIY box to 1.3, good to know.

I had thought it might work out this way. After all, end users should not generally be wiring up an AC outlet lol.

I like the idea of the outlet on the 1.3 though! Could be super useful for use with an inverter etc! I wanna get the skinny on what exactly are the limits of the juice it can deliver and whether an inverter can reasonably accomodate this plus a dnail.

It really wouldn't be hard to add as an end user, especially in the DIY kit. For a few dollars I can, and probably will, add one to my 1.2 kit.

Still, neither can hold a candle to the sapphire halo which is why I do not spend much time dabbing on either the SiC or on Domeless.com ceramic nails.

Wait, did I miss something? Sapphire Halo? I did some searching and checked out D-Nail's page but the only Sapphire item I found was the insert. Are you beta testing or something? Maybe I just didn't look hard enough.

The have been whispers of desire for the saphire dish s ever since the insert had such success but the whispers have also been those of mourning and lament when regarding the possible insurmountable cost to purchase a dish of material that cost so much to manufacture. ...and distribution as well as the profit that would be only logical to be added, dnail is a business not charitable organization... is there any information regarding final purchase price range you can share with the waiting public... I dont expect you to know specivic number but a indicative rangel would alow me to decide whether to even bother dreaming of owning one or whether it would be more emotionallyrics healthyou to pretend like the thing don't exist

Not when you hear the price. I'm guessing over $300 for just a dish.

That does seem a bit steep, though I understand the price. I guess my only concern would be it's durability! I haven't studied how strong it is, how long it will last, or how easily I could break it. Before I consider a purchase I would have to do some serious studying! If it was durable and offered an even better (by a decent amount) experience than the SiC, I would seriously consider saving for it after I get a third dab rig in the future!

Great Scott!

Very fragile in comparison. But ultimate in purity...for now. I'd love to try it.

@herbivore21

Thanks! Wow, I'm looking forward to that coming out!

No worries bro, sadly it will be a long time before they are available to public. Manufacturing process is long (3 months from start of manufacturing to delivery to dnail for QC) with an inescapable failure rate of a certain number of each batch (sapphire must be grown inside a mold and if it grows unevenly, it will break, obviously failing QC). These facts plus the fact that this is manufacturing really only otherwise used in aerospace (sapphire is the glass of choice in space, when polished properly it is clear like glass but super heat resistant and much stronger) make the product very expensive, prohibitively so for most atm.

Still, eventually some revolution in manufacturing/design will bring these to the public.

Yup, this is all true as I said above. Last round of beta sapphire halos was $300 usd. This has very little profit in the price for dnail (par for the course, beta testers get the beta items they test cheaper than retail).

Since sapphire halos being released to public will probably necessitate some new development in manufacturing, this may not be indicative of final price if/when it finally becomes available to public (such a revolution would make them cheaper to produce).

There are no current plans that I know of for the sapphire halo to be made available to public.

Not when you hear the price. I'm guessing over $300 for just a dish.

At current manufacturing technologies, I'd expect considerably beyond $300 usd retail for the dish. Still, I would imagine something like what you are saying or maybe less if some new development takes place. This is all pie in the sky talk though, there are no current plans for sapphire to be released to public AFAIK. Remember too that PB have long made quartz that is more expensive than this though, so it is relative ;)

lol I forgot to mention, dnail looked recently at doing a run of platinum halos lately, those suckers were gonna run > $5000 USD just for a dish!!!!! It definitely is relative lol

Sapphire is not more durable than SiC, it is more durable than quartz though! I had a nasty spill with a beta slim series base (first run of 14/18 composite for male gong joints were too short on the 18mm male part and fell off rigs when hot!!!). My sapphire sadly cracked after it's 4ft drop onto hard tiles, but was still in one single piece and completely usable. When I dropped one of my high end PB quartz nails from the same height in almost the exact same way, it shattered everywhere!

Sapphire halos however taste SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much better than SiC and quartz halos. There is just no comparison. It is another league and to my mind, a true next-gen nail. Similar taste can be achieved on quartz at very, very low temps but you get such waste of dabs that this is not worth it, and even when you do get close there is still a noticable flavor deficit in quartz vs sapphire.

Sapphire is twice as conductive as quartz, less conductive than SiC but tastes much better at much higher temps than SiC.

Hope this gives some idea of the differences, I could go on and on!

It's expensive for a nail but given the cost of other extract accessories it's actually not too bad but probably too much for most people.
Agreed man, there have been more expensive extract accessories for ages. Hell, look at those swing top mothership quartz torch only nails ffs, at that price we could get 2 sapphire halos haha

Still, no shame in saying that $300 odd is more than one is able/prepared to spend on a dab accessory! Definitely a lot of cashish!

Actually, I would call glass very fragile in comparison to SiC, I would call quartz quite fragile in comparison and I would call sapphire somewhat fragile in comparison if that helps give an idea of things ;)

Hello everyone, new member here. I've been reading as much as possible in this thread but there's simply too much to keep up with. My questions are regarding the Liger v2 nails. I've concluded the v2 with both quartz and SiC are going to be my next purchases.

First, I've seen a few pictures here of the v2's but I would like to know if there is anywhere else I can see more pictures? Also, how do you guys recommend to clean and gather any reclaim from inside the nail? I have a cheap titanium banger similar to the v2 and it's not exactly the easiest to deal with.

I would like to thank you guys for the quality information provided here. Great membership you guys have here.

I can only speak on the cleaning portion. I broke mine down for its first cleaning today. I just ISO soaked everything. Came out looking good as new. As far as cleaning the dish alone, cranking it up to 900-1000 gets it nice and clean. Inserts will require slightly higher/lower temps to clean.

Some things are innovative, some are simply to part foolish people and their money. At least it goes to a company who is innovating lol. Can't say platinum halos is exactly innovating, except to cater to the "swag yolo" community lol.

These were gonna be offered at cost and only made for friends of Dnail. These were not being made for profit, just for fun and probably to justify the boss getting one made for himself ;)

So I must disagree with you in part, is not about parting people with money. I must however also strongly agree that this would have definitely only been for those with much, much more cash to splash about than you or I and may not have necessarily had any functional benefit over sapphire lol

I'm pretty sure it would be more enjoyable to dab off of the sic for $80 than the $1500 platinum? I can't imagine it adding any benefits beyond showoff factor, which is totally fine, but not an "improvement". I like flashy things as much as the next guy, but thats too much for me even if I had that kinda cash to throw around.

Noone purported that this was an improvement man. It would have been (note it is not being made anymore AFAIK) a rare, expensive nail made from a rare, expensive material. Some people like collecting rare, expensive things for no other reason and that is there business ;)

Still, whilst I will happily spend 3 x as much on Sapphire over SiC/quartz (it is just so much better and I am thankful that I have had the opportunity!), like you I am not inclined to spend 15-20x as much as the sapphire halo on platinum unless I know it is similarly better than the much cheaper alternatives lol ;)

I'd love to see a double blind taste test done with a bunch of different nails too!

Haha that would be awesome!

I've thought about taking a rig and magnifying glass outdoors on a sunny day, placing a dab in a cool domeless nail and doing solar dabs using the magnifyling glass. Haven't ever gotten around to trying it but seems like it should work :science:

There was a Platinum electrformed recycler on Pulse Glass' IG this morning ... perfect for the platinum halo  I wouldn't even want platinum anything. Tacky

I live in FL and needless to say, it is extremely hard to come by some good tasting stuff. I really envy you guys speaking about tasting your concentrates. For the most part, we consider it a win if we're able to get some below $60/g that doesn't look like liquid tar.

Believe it or not, I live in a much more difficult to find green kinda jurisdiction than you! I make what I dab though so it doesn't matter. If you can find good buds, you can find good oil. Especially if you got yourself a sturdy hair straightener and a vise handy :D

Please do ask in the Rosin thread if you're interested in learning this technique, or PM me on any particular extract questions you might have :) Many helped me here when I was first introduced to concentrates, it is nice to be able to pay it forward when I can ;)
