I have been talking about hanging out in Cloud City & since I got my favourite tube back & cleaned up I think I have found a perfect mate for the EQ. I also have a stem that was shipped too long so I will look to cut that down & have less diffusion.

I do not miss the lung butter. Even during my combustion days, i was trying to come up with a workaround.

Getting taste from 155c is possible just not consistently enough for me to make a habit of it, I've also had invisible fumey vapor at lower temps. Sometimes strong thick fumes that can make you cough if you get too greedy. Since you are trying other plants. those other materials tend to vape at even lower temps to release their actives. Another reason to love your EQ. :luv: There is the recent post on the ethnological thread with a few groupings of lists of plants and their desired temps to vape them at. Just a heads up. I've posted in that thread too. :mental:

Nah, 155 is only really suited for strains that don't have skunk undertones. It's really just a start-of-the-sesh enjoyment option, or a 'I should probably not be high but I cbf being sober right' now kinda thing. Very subtle, but could be perfect in the right situation.

Lung butter, haha that's a good term for a disgusting thing
I was similar in my combustion days, tried carbon filtering for a while. That was actually very effective but a massive hassle.

We seem to have had a eerily similar journey Molten. I dedicated myself to vaping last year specifically so I could give up cigarettes as $22-28 a pack was just too much money daily. I tried smoking green bowls but was as satisfying as having a Mars over a Snickers TBH.

hahah I like the analogy, I smoked green in a tiny spoon pipe whilst I was living with my parents and it was definitely a cleaner time in my 6 year smoking career, but not by a lot and it was also early on. I am really finding a benefit to cannabis now I'm vaping, before it was too brain numbing with all the downsides attributed to combustion and tobacco. It's still nice to have a cone every now and then, but it's brilliant not weirdly craving them all the time. Tobacco, and the politics of their business in our country are some of the worst concepts in our current society. It's so shameful, I used to work at a news agency and that is one side of most I won't miss being a part of now.

With the other plants, I wasn't sure if I wanted to run their vapour through silicone.. they might smell and taste pretty bad. I'll be trialling a few things but I think the MFLB will be best suited for them as I don't really use it for anything else.

A question for all you watersport lovers????

If you disconnect all your bongs and tubes and leave your self with just and eq and the whip....turn it to 220,,, and draw on it ( no herbs ) for 10 seconds...

Does this make you cough?????

My guess is no..

Add some flowers and repeat ...

Now I bet that was irritating...

What I'm trying to say here is that everyone seems to vape through water, thinking it's cooling the vapour and making it less harsh...now while it's correct that the vapour is cooler, I believe the reason you have 'tamed' the vapour is due to removing some of the actives, not the cooling of the vapour...

This is what I think the 2 tests prove....

Any thoughts on this......

Dunno bout removing actives but I have used the whip only twice in the last week because I actually like a bit of draw resistance on a direct draw vape. I can vape quite comfortably at 220c with a 3' whip & no water, however I am a old school bong head & love a good bong hit. That gif I have above was 35 seconds into a 230c bong rip & when I have a good solid rip like that it is as close as I can come to the feeling of smoking a bowl.

It is all down to personal opinion & what your body's respiratory system is attuned to really.

watersport lovers  I SCUBA amongst other things that I dab'll in. :science:

My thoughts on water revolve around removing as much water soluble contaminants as possible. As a guess, and I may have to do more research on this, I think that cannabinoids, being natural hydrocarbons, would be oily in nature and thus hydrophobic and so should pass through water effectively. I have seen compelling evidence that ammonia is present in concerning quantity after the process of vaporisation and ammonia is very water soluble. I have also seen research indicating that up to 70% of the pesticides and fertilizers found in raw material can be found in the vapour gas produced by it. At the very least water filtration and diffusion would be a very good reducer in the amount of this substance ingested and that in itself is worth doing.

I also happen to be addicted to the sensation so I'd be happy to continue to do so regardless, but I haven't seen anything giving good reason to stop. Anecdotal evidence that I have read and experienced tells me there is negligible potency loss and that seems understandable to me.

If you inhale air, and exhale, a large percentage of oxygen is going to go to waste and it is the very same with any breath of anything. The whole point of dense vapour hits and rapid extraction is maximising the exposure rate that the surface of your lungs have with active material. A massive amount of material must go to waste in order to saturate your lungs. This is the point of bong hits with combusted cannabis and it carries through with vaporisation beautifully.
There's a sensation I experience after big hits which I call digital vision. Vapour bongs are powerful enough to distort vision, they really can hit hard but it's much more pleasant than carbon monoxide poisoning like with traditional bongs.

EDIT- I already have a massive wall of text here, but I'm going to add another brick.
When I used the whip, I found constantly inhaling vapour and exhaling through the nose was a pretty awesome way to get rekt. But it was time consuming and I've never been a hookah smoker. Modding the EQ basically reduced the amount of time it took to have a hit, and I find the resistance of the water helps in modulating airflow. I can still cough from a vong hit, for me it's not all about smoothness, it's about density and consistency of the hit.

Why would you do this to me! I am a big fan of Blaze glass but I already have 3 Blaze pieces of glass. Most stuff is aimed squarely at combusters but if it stays on sale I might have to make this unnecessary purchase http://www.beefysbongs.com.au/four-twenty-saxo-side-car-black/

This is the type of vapour tube I would recommend anyone to get as there is a lot to be said for simplicity when it comes to vaping. http://www.beefysbongs.com.au/blaze-glass-bong-with-diffuser-vortex/ . Some of the ash catchers look really good & they will be getting a trial order from me for a few glass bits & bobs I need to get from somewhere.

I prefer to pay a bit more for local sourced product as if I have quality issues I can take it up directly rather than a cheap DH Gate piece or 3 I would take my chances on. I also get that funny feeling that head shops that buy 40 or 50+ pieces from a DH Gate seller will always get the choice pieces from their inventory as they represent significant repeat business.

Thats the only path to cloud city Molten. Density & consistency are words to live by. Enter the dragon son, enter the dragon

Herb gardener...
I'm not trying to discourage anyone from using water, I just think the idea that cooling the vapour is making it less harsh is missing the point..

Surely the smoothness is coming from the reduction in actives...
Or it would be just as harsh empty????

I grow my own all organic so am not concerned with residual pesticides or fertiliser...

The fact that cannabinoids are oils doesn't mean they won't be lost to the water or glass...

I'm not saying that I'm right here, it just seems logical to me if I can draw dry, with no herb, with no irritation, then when I add herb it's irritating, surely that means heat is not the problem.... the actives are...

@Stevenski and @MoltenTiger I had a similar run into vaping too. Knew that I wanted one and knew I was sick of combusting and all the black lung gunk that came with it. Stopped mixing my weed with tobacco and thats when the first big revolution came. I used to get to 1pm at work and then be able to think of nothing else but ripping a huge bong but once tobacco was out of the equation it had much less of a hold on me (I used to walk past the back door straight to the shed when I got home for a bong before seeing the family). Now I get home and go straight into the house to see the family then my wife will find a reason for me to go and visit the shed. I'm a lucky man.

@kellya86 Even if water filtering does remove a small amount of actives I couldn't care less. I intake far more cannabinoids in one breath so any loss is negligible and vaping is rather efficient anyway. Like @MoltenTiger said, ammonia gets removed so thats got to be a bonus.

If I'm feeling like I need to get more out of a hit I use a rebreathing technique. Take some clean air in after your hit and hold for a few seconds. Start exhaling and when you see a bit of vapor stop and breath all the way in again. Repeat until you blow no vapor.

Time is another reason I vapor bong. If everything is warm I can finish a full elbow pack (light tamp) on 230c in one hit. Ymmv.

I'm not trying to cool my vapor down either. Cold glass is the enemy and offers more place for condensation. I use hot water in my water tool to add moisture to the dry vapor. I put it to you @kellya86 that you loose more actives to condensation in your whip then I do in my hot water and on my hot glass? My whip is about 20cm long.

I also love the way I can build up a huge hit in a large volume water tool and then lift the adapter and take it all in. You can feel it expand in your lungs

I smoked nothing but huge bongs for 10 years. When I switched to dry vaping my asthma played up real bad. Was going to go back to combusting but then got my first all glass water tool with a ground joint. Never looked back. I was an eccentric smoker as it was, lots of different tools and accessories so getting VAS was unavoidable for me. Even with what I spend on vapes, accessories and herbs I'm still spending less than my combustion days.

I know most of you have seen these gifs but I can't help but whore them around. Temp is probably 230c in most of these with some kind of concentrate thrown in. Like oil and keif sangas or dirty cotton filters.

My temp dial normally stays at 230c but if I'm going out for an afternoon of socializing and drinking (not very often) especially with non consuming friends and colleges I prefer 190-195. It gives me a cleaner more social high and I don't have to worry about big fuzzy blood shot eyes hanging out of my head :D

@kellya86 It's the dry vapor that causes the irritation, not the active ingredients.

@Stevenski Check out my latest post on The HI thread. I have a water tool that is very similar to the saxo 420 rig and I love it.

Just out of interest @kellya86 when you combusted how did you combust? Were you a pipe or 1 hitter kind of guy or did you enjoy a spliff or joint? What about ripping monster bongs? Did that feature in your smoking routine regularly?

You are from the UK right & over there spliffs seem to be the most popular form of smoking whereas in the US it seems to be a pretty even split & 80% of combusters in my country would rip cones. I think that may have a fair bit to do with how our individual tastes are formed.

@Nugg your post is bang on & I think a lot of Aussies are similar especially if you started as a junior smoker. I would always a rip a cone or 3 or 4 as soon as I got home before I would even take a dump .

If I am breaking out my EQ it is for a reason & that is because I want to ingest large quantities quickly & get fucked up. Even this afternoon I vaped .5 in 3 elbows inside 4 or 5 minutes. It had the desired effect & I see no valid reason to go below 230 in water. I like 185-200 on the whip but if I want direct draw that is what the Air is for.

In my part of Australia it's rare to meet some one who doesn't smoke mixie bongs. Any pipe smokers tend to be older dudes (I'm 27). The lads smoking zoots, zuggas, joints and spliffs tend to be the Englishmen. They call my home suburb 'little Britten'. I'm the only person I know that can construct a blunt and I only do that if me and my party era mates are heading out for a big night (which barely ever happens these days)

I'm sooo glad I bought an EQ as my first vape. It let me experience everything vaping had to offer and at a good price point. If I had bought a volcano it would probably be in a cupboard now and I'd still be combusting :puke:

@Stevenski , like the new profile pic....

So we are saying the reason vapour is harsh, isn't caus it's hot, or full of irritating cannabinoids, it's because it's dry...

So is vaping herb dryer than vaping nothing???

When I was a combuster I was joints only, used to be a big bong head 10 years ago, but was just joints with tobacco up till September when I quit...

Right so vaping through water removes some amonia??

Does it also remove the 100 % of the benzene and other carcinogens released at 230???

Any actives I lose to my whip can be recovered...is this true for water peices????

You are filtering particles out through water, but how do you know that a reaction hasn't taken place and you are in fact inhaling water vapour containing harmfull particles???

So it seems to me that all a bubbler does is add moisture to the vapour...

Could this not be achieved by inhaling through a wet cloth????

I'm not attacking water here, just want to learn some more about it before I try it....

Lo and Behold! The transformative power of Vapor.
Thanks for the pics and the discussion fellow FCer's. :sherlock:Was going to revisit the topic of absorption again. Plan on rereading the posts at FC here about how exactly the body absorbs vapor. There has been some wide conversation on this in the forums.
I used to have this discussion way back during my combustion days, before FC:myday:. Should you hold a hit for 2 secs or 20? Is anything over 2 secs a waste, because the lungs can only absorb so much actives in one breath anyway? Does oxygen play the same part in vaping as it does with combusting? Would it be worthwhile to exhale into a bag and rebreath it? I've heard when cooking with MJ that you want to keep the temp below 210 so the actives don't break apart.

Does higher temps kill certain actives? Does coughing increase the buzz? Does the body absorb things different/better at different temps for different people? different times? I do see a connection between tobacco smoking and high temp bong rips. And how others have figured out a way to kick combustion to the curb. It is amazing of the stories I've read of someone with a SS/Da Budda had quit combustion on their own, with no prior vaping knowledge from anywhere, no prodding from someone else and no FC forums to fall back on.:whoa:

I water filter as little as necessary. Least water needed to do the trick. Didn't think I'd ever get into it at all because of some of the counter points already made here. But the duel perc I have is small. Plus I've noticed how much control of the draw resistance you have with a water filter. Draw resistance is huge factor in vapor production in my EQ-uation.

My medium long drawn pulls at 200c to the MAX* might be as effective as an 'alternating' 230 in someone elses setup. YMMV and your EQ's setup's mileage may vary + your lungs mileage may vary. But that all could vary too.;)

210c hurts and scorches a lot more with my setup. (204C might be the sweet spot:hmm:) But then again, my F/F bowl is quite small and short and normally stays in the EQ full time. It uses very little glass material and has a wide throat. Works great with the 18mm wand. And when I placed my 19mm over that 18mm wand. SUCCESS! Now even more of that heat can be absorbed and maintained. I do have a safety screen/crumb catcher screen inserted in my F/F. But a bowl pack with my F/F would equal combustion and a goof = combustion.:cuss: Then an afternoon of getting that nasty smoke smell out of my glass.

*(F/F, wand, inside air all at a constant ideal 200c, or at least as close as possible. No heat loss.)

Yeah I wouldn't go as far as to advocate only vaping through water, I don't think it would dissolve 100% of anything but it would theoretically increase the relative potency of the cloud by removing byproducts at a higher rate than the desired actives.

This factor is probably also null if you have access to or grow your own medicinal grade bud. I don't often have the pleasure, and so I get all sorts of funky extras with my backyard purchases.

In the end it matters not at all as long as you get high. I've had three/four bowls and it's kept me going for hours, $5 worth of weed if that. I'm ok with that rate. If absolute efficiency is what you desire it's probably not the best method, but if you just want to vape some bowls it's a really nice way to do it.
As opposed to inhaling through a wet-cloth, a shiny glass bong is pretty luxurious really and it definitely makes the vapour cooler and more pleasant.

@Nugg awesome gifs. nice selection of pieces. I've been D020d'ing myself tonight haha, yours looks like a better quality one than mine

@Stevenski not a bad choice with the bubbler, it's a good form factor for Q use. I had to share the link, its just such a nice collection of glass, I was surprised I'd never seen it before.
That big vapour tube would be perfect, I also really like the Black Leaf Tibor Troth LE fish tube

when i first started using a whip, after a couple weeks i realized that not only did i have a sore throat but my lungs hurt. that has never happened before. i was vaping 3 grams a day at the time. getting way too stoned. i don't remember what temp i had the da buddha on but it was around 370f.

i used a bong and it helped but it was a hassel and i don't like bongs anymore. the bag is the only reason i started vaping again. no sore throat or lungs.

and from my experiment -
"i started doing an experiment a couple days ago. i run the fan on low for 2 minutes and take the bag off. i then put another bag on and run it for a minute. i think every thing that is good is in the bag in 2 minutes. when i vape the other bag, there is very little if any vapor when i exhale. "

i ran .1, three times on the first morning. each time i ran it for 2 minutes and then put the bag on for 2 minutes (takes 4 minutes to fill on low speed). it got me a bit high so i ran .1, for 3 minutes three times the next day. after 2 hours, no high. so i now fill the bag for 2.5 to 3 minutes. just in case. :)

3 grams a day, nice to indulge I suppose, I just don't have time to vape that much...

Maybe this is why people use water, maybe most people vape alot more than me. Maybe If sat down and vaped 3 grams, I would feel the need for water....

Like Iv said I'm not knockin water here in any way, Im just trying to understand why everyone uses it, and I don't seem to need too...I want to know if I'm missing out on something or not????

Before I spend 10 quid on glass to find out it doesn't improve my experience,

This is why I'm questioning it so much, Im trying to convince myself one way or another...

i was growing a lot and i had just retired. i was unwinding. :)

i went from smoking 3 grams in joints to vaping .75 grams. lots of waste smoking joints.

i'm old and have smoked cigs and joints most of my life. i breath fine so far (thank god) but i think i'm probably more sensitive to it as my lungs aren't as healthy as they were 30 years ago.

Hello fellow vapers!
Any opinions on if the Extreme Q is still a good buy nowadays?
I've had a MFLB for 3-4 years now and it just doesn't fill my need anymore. Even though it made me quit on smoking at first, I can no longer ignore the power of a toke from a spliff vs mflb.

What do you guys say? Would the Extreme Q be a good buy for me? Keep in mind that I wouldn't say no to a cheaper option (nofunds student lol)

keep vaping!

I've had mine for over 5 years. I broke the glass heater cover once, but replaced it myself with a stronger piece. The EQ seems to be super reliable, if you don't let your cats knock the thing off the table!!
Stock EQs work fine, but add a Ddave kit and it will work better still and be easier to clean.

I bought some Vape bags from Puffitup.com. Best price anywhere with coupon code. Excellent shipping. FC member.
Took my old cyclone bowls and some duct tape and made vape bags with 18mm openings. With my straight wand setup, they fill up fast! Haven't tried it with my most recent double wand setup yet. The duel perc dominates for the moment.
Another option, With the 18mm bag filled with vapor, I can separate it from the EQ and attach it to my water piece. Then draw water filtered vapor with no tube restriction!
And even one more option, I can attach the 18mm bag to my perc. Run the EQ and have a bag of filtered vapor. I ask you, Can a Volcano do that?

Thanks for the lead on the bags!
I'll get some.

I have this HYDRO-TUBE with a 18mm female fitting.
I had it made to fit a EVO however I believe my Q can Drive it with no worries?

18mm Female x 18mm Male adapter?

I'll make a stand for it!

@kellya86 you're a lot younger than I so don't take my advice if you don't want too?

I only smoked joints in the 70's.

Bong's I never did like!

The new water-pipes have smaller mouthpieces. (some)

I like all kind's of water world's!

The FC UFO works good with the Q. (in my opinion)

I use whips and no water sometimes however mix it up?

Don't let your CANNABINOID level's go down!

For me I couldn't make it without CANNABIS.

Are you talking about the tube or the bubbler I use? The tube has more volume & works really well paired with the EQ. The bub works great too but I was missing those big bong hits that leave me :o. That BL one looks nice but at over 40cm it is way to big for vapor bonging in my opinion. I think a bong between 8-14" is about right for the EQ & the vapor tube I pointed out is only 29cm with a nice downstem is about perfect for vapor bonging from a size & volume standpoint.

Before I spend 10 quid on glass to find out it doesn't improve my experience.

What are you getting for a 10er? I'm curious :)

Lo and Behold! The transformative power of Vapor.
I noticed we all seem to like things in the D020- perc thing with a carb. Even the tube bong has a shower arrangement in it.

@ataxian I have tried doing bags with stock parts and other mods. I find more open throat = bags fill quicker. So I re-purposed my cyclone bowls. How well you pack a cap is key. If you can get white pillows with your setup up, congrads. Visibly light but full heavy gassy vapor can be achieved and be effective and even soothing (or make you cough). With a bag you can nearly draw in as much or as little as you like. You can figure what you are capable of absorbing. With my cyclones air bags, there is little restriction. It is nearly as much as I can physically draw in. Almost a 3 x 1 lung ratio for me. :haw: Pulmonary exercise time.

How you go about unplugging and separating the bag from the EQ gracefully, and perhaps plug the EQ, is something to plan ahead for in your setup. How efficient your glass keeps it's own heat is a factor, since you will be running a fan plus the heat. Each person has their own method for extracting into bags. You can do dry runs to test the bags before testing with anything good. Check for leaks, etc. If my bags tend to fill fast, I go with the slow fan speed. My glass setup is already a heat miser and very tall wand setup. 2 positives I've found.

I already use my bubbler to test the fan strength with my glass setup. You don't have to go to the extremes I have, but anything to throw out the bugs before hand, can prevent any frustration of getting all these elements to come together. Good luck bag hunters. Hope you bag yourself some white thick pillows.

Hi folks, just been lurking and I have a quick question: I see many times "preheat your glass" before using it/putting herbs in it. What I wonder is, how do you put herbs in your glass if it's hot? I mean, you preheat the cyclone bowl itself? I'm sure there's something I don't understand hehe. I'm getting my EQ tomorrow! Can't wait! Thanks :D

What temps do you run with the bags???

yeah when i was working and living with someone i did a lot less per day but always tried for at least an after work toke.

good old 392f is where i've ended up. i was down in the 370s for awhile there but the high is definitely higher at 392ish.

You can pack your bowl like you just mentioned or you can use those special screen in your glass elbow. Oh I see they are calling them dome screens on the Arizer site.
Caps, tip hats, elbow screens nearly the same thing. If you say pre pack your screens, then you can place them in a preheated glass elbow. then Place the elbow into the (preheated)bowl. MAX heat being absorbed into the cap, tip hat, elbow screen. errr DOME SCREEN at once.
