Rosin Technique....Easy DIY Solventless

I've been pretty much only dabbing the rosin I made a couple days ago and I'm coming around a bit. I think part of what I don't like about it is the moisture level and after flattening and drying out it's improved. Back end of the hit is still harsher but I'm thinking that's waxes and fats which are usually removed during QWET. I going to try squishing a an oz or so of flowers soon to get a small slab and then run it in the vac for a bit to see how it changes.

Wait, pressing reclaim? Could you elaborate my friend?
Sure thing bro :) I am talking about scooping out wand/gong/stem hash (in this case, from a buddy's very used Solo PVHES GonG) putting it in a screen like bubble and squishing! We squished maybe 1g and got the most massive return ever, the stuff was already gooey before being squished so I just knew it was gonna juice. Best nighttime medicine ever!

For sure bro, I noticed the added harshness too! That took me a while to get used to and I started using a rig with more can space/surface area to account for this. Definitely know what you are talking about though!

Be careful using the vac man, it will for sure pull out those added volatiles that make rosin worthwhile if you use too much pressure. ;)

Hello peeps, my 12t H-press (representing rosin in eu:science:) has been mounted and tried!(unfortuantely no RW plates yet but they're coming, since i'm not in us i'm probably in the low priority braket but imma wait..)
It doesn't seems to go over 5/6 ton, after that the pump will go up n down without any kind of resistance which i think it indicates no (hydraulic)oil is getting anywhere, so my guess is that i need to change the oil that was there when the press arrived (or add some), is that the case? what kind Oil is best for our presses? and how you refill it, from the release valve? (the one you got to unscrew to make the ram return back when you're done pressing) or there should be another one?
i'm sorry for my english n if you dont understand something i'll gladly re-elaborate
thanks a lot!

I processed 25g of Chocolope flowers the other day and got back 3g for 12% return. Not great given the quality of the bud used so I'll need to experiment with some changes. A couple of the presses it really flowed out but others not so much. I did 5g per 2x3 bag and used burrito style, 1 minute press around 1666psi and 200-220F, also pressed each bag twice. Just ran 10g of Sour Diesel and only got 5% over two presses :uhoh:, guess I'm doing something wrong then. I'll probably try dry sift next, hoping that might work a bit better.

This is the Chocolope after a couple days. After air drying it's not sticky but does have a waxy texture to it. It's doesn't look great but it is super tasty and dabs well.

For temps I'm measuring using an infrared temp gun placed right up against it with parchment between them. Pressure is 10,000lbs divided by the area of the the bag (2x3=6).
Have you tried comparing the IR temp with a contact type meat thermometer.

One way I like to double check temps is to wet my finger with water and listen for the sizzle on the blocks. At 210f it will just sit there and at 215f, it will sizzle and boil off.

I would also try smaller amounts like 2x2 pouches to decrease your work area and increase psi on the puck.

Hmm, you've got moisture and pressure sorted, must be temp or bud quality? Weird. I agree with @Joel W. try a couple smaller presses to optimize your process first?

i find even if my rosin has the smallest spec of plant material my hit will taste oh so gross..

is it the same with you guys or is this a personal problem?

What kind of nail/setup are you using? I don't find that small amounts of plant material effect the taste on mine, but this may be a sapphire quirk too. I do find that if I press slightly too long that the rosin tastes not as good however.

Using a SiC Dish with OG HE v2 carb cap. Small and large sized/diffused rigs used.

I did not think of it being me pressing too long and damaging the terps. Definitely gonna give this suggestion a try. But i did have a decent amount of specs of plant material so i will report my results back after some testing tonight :science:

Too many particulates in your dab could effect the taste too (I've only ever had one or two fragments of pistils in a given dab), if there is a real lot of them there. Still, let's see how you go with shorter squishes first :)

I did a combination of shorter squishes and also removed any specs during my rosin process and it did improve the flavor. wish i knew which was the fix.. but to be honest I'm just glad to have gotten rid of the gross taste!

I have not done my homework on this offering... thoughts?

http://www.gorosin.com/shop/pro-grade-rosin-pneumatic-press-14-4k-lb-v2-2/

Apologies if this has been covered already.

Doesn't say anything about the pressure? I wonder what psi it can reach because those are decent size plates. I'd have to know this before spending a grand. Looks nice and compact though.

I found this one online a few weeks ago. I did a search but didn't find anything on FC, so putting it in here for info...

I'm guessing this is just going to be a glorified flat iron. No way it can get the pressure needed for 200F presses because if it could it would be way more than $99. But maybe I'm wrong

Just my thoughts

But I like it!
@BoogerMan It kinda looks like a taco press, or sort-of like a scalloped bowl inside another, and all the pressure comes from horsing on it. Basically a hair straightener in an easier to manage form factor.

I'm still trying to figure out what my own squishamajig is gonna look like. If all y'all would stop advancing the tech so fast that would be great... just kidding - I'm so thankful you guys are sharing so many great learnings! :)

I go ahold of someone named Brock who says they just redesigned the new model and production will be complete on Monday. They have yet to test it for an official PSI if I understood correctly, but the pressure rating he threw out there for estimate was 3000lbs and the plates are 3" x 2". I presume this works out to 500 psi.

Nice, Looks like a nude set of hair straighteners? What's the board in the background?

Yep, a stripped-down 1" hair iron from the thrift store. The board is from a VB1 knockoff box vape. The vape was toxic but the heat control board works great, the temp is spot on judging by my meat thermometer ;)

I broke the cheap crank on the vise within the first week, but there was a nice gap to shove a small screwdiver thru. That worked very well up until it didn't lol, the handle of the driver snapped off...Good thing they are cheap and plentiful...

The parchment is just for looks, I typically fold it over on top forcing the oil out the sides, away from the plates. I just use tiny .25g pellets pre-flattened to reduce blowouts.

I broke the quick release on my vice last week, put a screw in to keep the tension up, that worked for a few days but has stopped working, now moved on to a different vice.

I took apart a pair of 60mm x 35mm straighteners tonight, the ones with interchangeable attachments, interestingly, there's no thermistor etc. in them at all, so I'm guessing/hoping that the 2 temp settings are done with an internal calibration potentiometer/resistor.

I'm slowly improving my technique. Still don't know which temperature of time works best with my 2" hair iron.

But my fragile back really doesn't do pressing by hand. In going to need an automatic device eventually.

Right now, 380'F and pressing a pea sized compressed "bong hit" nug for 6-10 seconds seems to yield the best for me. I pretty much stand on it.

Yirld is certainly an issue.
