Historically, they have not advised what exactly was changed between each update, with the exception of the noticeable changes like the plastic reinforcement around the bowl and faster power button response.

I didn't do any burn off on mine. Make sure you have a full charge and download the app (especially if you want to adjust the temps). I suggest using a grinder...not too fine.
Personally, I never fill the oven but that's a personal choice. If you don't fill it, use the pad as a spacer. Or you can take a conventional screen, cut out a wedge (so it looks like pacman) and use that (my preference). And enjoy!
Thanks for the pointers! I actually went ahead and used the Crafty before reading this in the end. I'd already downloaded the app and given the battery a charge (it arrived 5/6ths full already), my mistake was grinding my herb in the same way as I did with my previous vape (MFLB). I filled the crafty bowl to the top with some seriously fine powder. Needless to say this ended up in the cooling unit as well as my mouth! No bother, I've since given it all a clean out and will know to use a much coarser grind in the future.
Moving on, what temps do people here tend to vape at with the Crafty? I know this is hugely subjective and entirely down to personal preference but the thing I love about my MFLB is that I can gently sip at it at low temperatures, set it down while I hold my hit in, and then pick it up 10minutes later knowing that the herb hasn't been cooking away. I know a Crafty isn't the right sort of vape for this exact usage, but does it sound like a bad idea (for both the Crafty's health and conserving herb) to power on, take a couple of hits once up to temp, then turn off to go back to later?
I'm sure I read somewhere that vapour only really forms with airflow? If the bowl sits at temperature for a few minutes am I wasting any/much herb?

I think you're better off putting in just what you'll use at the time. Then put liquid pad or secondary screen on top of load so it doesn't swirl around in there. the Crafty uses two heaters. A conducton heater near the bowl brings things up to warm, so the convection heater can kick butt when you draw and pass hot air thru. You can leave some in for higher temp later, but it will be degraded some, imo. And heating fully from ambient to operating temp for a couple of hits will lead you back to your charger pretty soon.
It's a fine line, to get to your question. It can surely sit at temp for a couple of minutes. More than 2 or 3 and it should be off, but get it back on while still warm and finish the bowl, so it doesn't have to climb all the way back from room temp. Time and use will reveal what works for you!

Just something I thought I'd share that some may have discovered already.
Through several hours of testing I've managed to get about 20 draws from a single pack. Even on the final draw the vapor was visible but not quite as thick.
This required me to use my phone app and toggle the temperature setting every few hits but it simply shows how efficient this device is.
I start mine at 330* F which is considerable lower than the default setting. At this level the flavor is amazing and vapor is visible. Every 3-4 draws I would bump it up about 10-15* and repeat until nothing was left.
I didn't finish this in one sitting so it's possible to get more considering time spent heating and cooling.
If I use the two default settings I manage about 12 draws before it's no longer visible. To achieve 8 more really extends the life of your material and shows how efficient the crafty truly is.

Don't forget that generally speaking it will be the people with negative experiences who will post, this is the same for every product, whether you are looking for a vape or a second hand car. Before I buy any product I always research first on the internet and I have never found a single product that did not have some negative reactions. Also the more people who buy a product the more problems there will be.
Not sure what sort of upgrades you are looking for. It works perfectly, it vapes herb tastes great and is easy to use. Take a look at the Volcano, still one of the most respected vapes out there but has changed very little over the years.
Anyway I have had my Crafty for a few months, now at 28 hours running 2.08. The only "issue" I have is that the vibration feature doesn't always work.
I have used a lot of vapes over the past few years and the Crafty is the best (for dry herb) I have used up until now. The Arizer products are also excellent (Solo and Air) but I have also had to send one of them back. The MiniVap is also great but I have sent that one back once too.

You are correct. Sorry.
I made an assumption based on the product description that Crafty and Mighty employ both conduction and convection, but it doesn't indicate that any second heater element is in there.

That issue is important, and my Crafty has 0 hours on it and the vibration is inconsistent at best. Hopefully it's just too "new" but I know that's not it. My brand new Mighty has this issue as well. It's nice though, because i'll always have an excuse to ship it back for a new one, because I know for a fact it is not the batteries.
Your Crafty is pretty new still, I would plan on shipping it back at some point. Arizer's reliability is no comparison to the Crafty.

Purchased in Oz so battery covered plus an extra 1 year warranty with credit card provider.
First vape tested was the volcano and this is on par if not better.

My current history with the Crafty Vaporizer, using pretty much every night. Started flashing red and orange after I left it on charge too long the previous night. Currently on a forced tolerance break whilst my replacement is being processed.
Purchased: November 2014 (could not connect to app)

Just tried to use my Crafty (15 hrs) and it wasn't heating up so I looked at the app and it told me I need to send it into S&B and the lights started flashing red/yellow.
I honestly thought all the reports on here and reddit were just people not being careful but now I know that isn't the case.
I literally instantly took the cooling unit off and emptied the bowl after every single session and most of the time went so far as to pull cold air through the unit until it was in the low hundreds (farenheit.) RARELY used it on max temp, usually just a hit or two to finish off a bowl.
Couldn't be much more disappointed right now unless I didn't have my firewood with me also. It's really been kicking my ass lately and I guess I'll be learning how to use it even more efficiently in the coming weeks.
Edit: @biohacker You're right it'll be nice to get a new unit but I expected it to last a little longer than it did at the very least. The battery was definitely deteriorating quickly though so it'll be cool to see if they've changed anything to make it last longer in the replacement.

My crafty is also celebrating Christmas in Germany. Bought a volcano as a back-up and I love it. Had contact with Storz&Bickel via mail, the mail stated they are closed till the 1st of january 2016... Good luck!

Well the battery went down hill real fast after 70 hours.
I'm now at 78 hours
Heat up time to 180c above ambient 3:53
I get one session (including heat up time) of about 11 minutes and the battery's flat!
Why are you still using these shitty cells S&B??? There's plenty of alternatives out there.
I'm debating whether I'll warranty return this one or open it up and change the battery myself, which feels very tempting to do right now.... It was only 8 months ago when I initially purchased the Crafty, been through 2 units now but I still have plenty of warranty left so I probably shouldn't void it by opening the unit up just yet..
