seems a little bit wasteful to use 2 pads, those squishes look like they could be done on a single sheet per nug? that was super fast collection though!!

I think the only way a nug could be pressed with a single duo pad would be if you folded the duo pad onto itself, creasing and bending it over time. By using two duo pads you prolong the life of the pads because they aren't being bent and creased every time they are used. Once I pressed about an ounce or two with the same two duo pads, I noticed that the non-stick properties were becoming less and the crisscrossed fibers were getting crushed by the pressure of the hair straightener. There is no doubt something is happening to the duo pads from the pressure/temperature maybe both. When looking at fresh duo pads they are kind of glossy. Duo pads that have been pressed with have sort of a foggy/hazy look to them. If anyone has any other input on these duo pads, please the floor is yours....

Duo pads are not ideal for pressing. The change from glossy to hazy happens as the plasticizers leach out of the pads. You could probably make them look like new if you wiped them with an automotive "tire shine" or armor all type product, but you'd be just be re-saturating them with poison, which would then end up in your medicine.

The best known option is PTFE, with the caveat that not all PTFE is safe- be careful to use sheet that is PFOA free. The only source I know for sheet of this grade is a company named Cookina that markets it for kitchen use. This is a different product than the glass fiber reinforced ptfe mat that has been popular lately, which is not PFOA free.

If you like silicone pads you'll love PTFE. Collection is easier, it's more durable, and you won't have all those nasty plasticizers in your rosin.

Edit:

Cookina mats actually do contain a fiberglass matrix to increase strength, like the panini sheets.

If you're looking to pick some up, the "barbecue xtra" is the one to get. It's the most durable option, and is rated for the highest temperatures.

Anyone here try BlackLabelPaper parchment yet? Supposedly they made it specifically with concentrate use in mind and they sell it cut and folded to size and in different weights. I'm probably going to order some soon to use for when my plates arrive next month. The 35lb seems to be what's recommended for rosin pressing but they also have 50lb which might be better for high pressure testing.

Ya we've been using them for our in-house rosin production. Superior to Reynolds for sure.

Awesome, thanks @moweewoweehowee!

Is it reusable or how many squishes can be done before it has to be tossed out?

Generally, we toss it out after one use because we use a 20 ton press...we use their "prefolded" 35# Silicone+ that is long so we squish and then move the paper down some, squish some more. If that makes any sense...lol

The only thing reusable is PTFE (Teflon) which they have too but I believe it's only pre-order option right now.

Haven't been pressing for a while. Bern a lot of dark hashes around, and they produce a very sappy and hard to handle oil, so I've been prefering to vape the hash straight in my DBV for the most part.

A friend owed me some, so he dropped by with some semi-light Moroccan.

Just pressed it in some bags I bought from Vapefiend.

And inspired by you guys I did one longer press, and made sure most if the rosin could get away from the heat.

I guess I have easier access to good import than many around my way, but attaining proper hash here isn't THAT hard.

So, I got a 42% yield.

I wish I could get this tech out to more people around my way, but everything is so very illegal still :(

Almost all of the rosin came on press one. I won't bother with another press from now on I think. Pressing the empty pouch gave me more than pressing a second time.

And tonight I will use my new glass dabber/carbcap after work and BLITZ my self with a nice dab of some pull and snap Moroccan hash rosin :brow:

I feel I have a good tech down, so feel free to Ask here or in PM if you are in a "hash country" and feel you need som pointers, I'll gladly help, as I realize many of these convos online often are a bit US/Canada-centric :)

^^^ This is cool. I see some traditional style hash at the shops here on sale for 2g/$15 sometimes (looks dryish though). I'd like to pick some up sometime and compare the cost to return next to sale buds. I wasn't sure how to press it compared to flowers so it's cool to hear people explaining their technique. I assumed some sort of screen, but hadn't thought about how much less pressure it would take.

Hi! I have been watching this thread closely, and decided it was finally time to get on the solventless game. I just scooped a dispensary-container of some kind of solventless hash. Not exactly sure whether its bubble or sift, etc. I pressed some with a little heat in wax paper, and dabbed it on a quartz banger. It worked, but did not taste good, and left a decent amount of ash/resin on the nail. Is there a specific size screen I should use? Could I use a household item like a tea bag or coffee filter?

This is what it looked like pressed. Could I just fold this up and press it in parchment/wax paper? Or would something like a coffee filter or tea bag be a good enough filter? Or do I need to go buy a specific micron (25) screen to do this? If so, is stainless steel better, or these mesh bags?

Do not use wax paper
only parchment
That could have altered the taste .
Some quilon could have melted in , just my guess .
A lot have mentioned Reynold's brand , I use
no name cheap parchment , that feels like paper .

@NorVape
So when pressing hash , whether traditional or bubble .
You recommend wrapping the hash 1st ?
Have you tried it with just using parchment paper ?

IMO most of those filters are gonna work, with their own weaknesess and strength :)

I have barely pressed a little grinder kief, but some one with more experience than me with pressin, eh, un-pressed hash can probably give a more precise answer than me.

Edit: pressing traditional hash with out a filter just blows everything all over, making everything contaminated with dry flat chunks of hash.

I use 25micron pressing screen, and another I cut into a pouch. When I have kief I usually Presque it to get it to stay in one spot I also get my finger just barely wet n get about a drop of water on the outside of the screen to help the flow. I get pretty good yields. I actually have some jars of kief waiting to be pressed when I run low.

If you wanted to try a store you could look for reusable coffee screens those are usually 25u. I've seen a big bucket like one that had a big 25u nylon screen. Like on little keurig reusable. They are pretty cheap to get online though

So I picked up a hair straightener, some parchment paper, and some unbleached coffee filters. This did seem to work somewhat, but a lot the oil got stuck in the filter I feel like. I guess I should've weighed the material before, then the rosin after if I really want to see what the yields are. But the taste was a little off too. Figured I should just order some screens, as well as a c-clamp before I make any conclusions. Can someone explain the taste of rosin compared to lab-grade, properly made bho? Also what size micron screens should be used for solventless vs flower?

After 3 weeks in the US my Mash Mesh bags are finally in Canada and cleared customs so I guess I'll get them this week or next at this rate. I haven't been doing any pressings since I've been holding out for those to come in. Supposedly I should be able to press up to 6-7g of material at once which I'm going to try out with both bud and dry sift. If dry sift works well, the plan will be to press material from the first 10-15 minutes of tumbling ie the nice golden stuff and then keep tumbling for a couple hours and do QWET with the rest. My QWET process is resistant to chlorophyll in the end product since I can filter it is under 2 minutes; any green hue in the solution dissipates with mild heat over 12 hours. I'm guessing rosin isn't quite as forgiving and pressing greenish dry sift is a bad idea.

A lot of my presses turn to straight shatter bits, that are impossible to collect. Any tips?
Warm it up a little. Usually doesn't take much. Sometimes you can just hold the parchment between your palms. Slight heat makes it pull n snap during which you can collect it up. Too much heat will make it too sappy and also impossible to collect.

Agreed much easier when its just a tad bit warmer. If you dont want to warm it just scrape twords yourself (I fold my parchment in half.) And scrape twords the parchment facing me facing up to block all flinging onto my clothes or table.
I also collect towards my body, other wise it tends to fling.

Seems purps (gdp specifically) makes that straight shatter for me. Some forum cookies I got tho, although high yielding, was so sappy it was impossible to collect without an ice pad
I hate when it is all sap. You see it. You wanna smoke it. Your dabber just wants to paint with it :(
