Never heard anyone talking about the cons of doing this.

Is there another portable electric vape with great vapor quality that you would recomend?

edit: Forgot to mention the ticking noise while warming up. Didnt happen in the first month.

Sorry you fell into that "I read it on the web" trap. As you've discovered even if all the downsides are understood it's not always gospel. I also hope you can see the maker never intended forcing fine debris down the holes until it backed up solid? The occasional bit can work it's way out, but once it starts backing up that's all it's likely to do. Like a plugged sink drain.

You're right, very few relate (or even know?) the downsides with the great insights they share. Then again, we don't want guys keeping secrets either. Another of life's compromises? Like I said there's been a lot of discussion on the general topic. 'Hamster style', coarser grind, keeping loose herb off the cup (either through care of using a SS screen, I think half inch) and so on are common. For now, removing the accumulation (in steps as necessary) seems the best plan to me.

I just recommended two alternatives, right. Also MFLB can have excellent taste IMO, but is also a bit fiddly to learn to use well. I very much like ESV but you seem sensitive to cost so I wouldn't recommend that one here. Otherwise in the general I'm with CK, Solo/Air makes a good option for most everyone, but you seem to have tried Air. Stem vapes, as the Lady suggests, are worth considering I think, tasty and frugal with the herb, but they are not portable.

When my buddy and I get high together, in addition to enjoying and appreciating the smooth delivery and overall performance of the Air, he also smokes out of his crappy little wooden bowl (quality buds in the baggie are just stuffed in the bowl as needed - you know the drill :-)

Anyway, he had a sore throat (didn't stop him from burnin') and advised me to go "solo" with my air. My sesh was below par (even though I afforded the material and extra minute or two for warm up)... packed it ahead of time ... not loose enough ... had to really pull on it to get & keep it going.

Turns out we had more time than usual, and I commented that I wished I'd brought a second pre-loaded stem with me ... so my friend offers me his sack for my refill.

Now I'm completely on board with drying out my bud (stored at 62% Relative Humidity) to a degree before it's loaded up. I've weighed my material before (62% RH) and after my dry-out procedure, and have ended up with about a 90% ballpark figure (e.g. 2.01g ended up as 1.86g = .925)

So I said that, even though I've read accounts of vaping nuggs, I didn't think it would work ... but he encouraged me to try. So I :

put 3 or 4 small pieces into the bowl (the rounded end of the domed SS screen is up against the 4 holes)

turned the Air back on and, as usual, set it to green before backing it down to white as a little extra warm up (normally I'll give the Air 1 extra minute after the 'green back down to white' procedure if time permits)

BAM !!!

First hit, and I was thinking WTF ... tasty cloud !!! Four more very nice hits and we were back to other matters for a couple of hours.

Half an hour after get up this morning (as I begin a holiday vacation) I dumped the bowl out, broke up the crunchy little pieces, and vaped I'm not sure how many hits to get the day going right :-)

Lesson? I think a loose pack is the most essential element in getting the Air to reach its performance potential.
There ended up being a nice amount of open space in the bowl to allow air flow around the pieces, and
FWIW: My friends bud was the same as mine ... nice and tight/solid nuggs.

Nice to know that in a pinch, the Air can work just fine this way.

In fact, I think a little experimentation might be in order over the next few weeks before back to work :-)

My experience after years of Solo/Air use

Loose pack with high temps will have you blowing clouds that can impress anyone

Tight pack low temps can last you a much longer time and can be used for multiple users.

I usually cape with my girlfriend and i pack a good amount in my stem. I set it to the white temp until it auto shuts and then go again on orange until it auto shuts. We get about 15 minutes of actual good tasting great hitting vapor that way.

If its just me i will use a loose pack and cough my lungs out! Also finish the sesh in about 5 minutes.

This vape can provide everything most vape enthusiasts will be searching for.

Yes it is! That's pretty much the way I'm always using my Air. Seldom pre-pack. Usually have my herb ground but if I need to break off a nug I do that too with zero concern. A quick set of the temp, a quick pinch of material to the bowl and it's ready to rock and roll. Reliable, low maintenance, highly efficient, stealthy and highly effective (= great vapor). Not sure what else one might look for in a portable. Other than a fast draw and we know that, as of the present moment, that's simply not a feature common to portables.

Thank you CarolKing and OF, maybe a desktop would be better for me since 80% of my vape sessions are at home. My budget limit is the same that I spent with the air, and I see that the Arizer extreme Q has the same price. Is it worth it? Do I need to use a larger quantity (looks like a larger bowl)?
Never heard about the ESV, the only desktop I heard about is the Volcano but the price tag is out of my limit for now.

CarolKing, dont worry cause I still have the scars from the two tubes in my chest, related to a week in the hospital after a pneumothorax. Since i got used to vaporizers I dont want anything else, love the taste of it. Way better than combustion with no doubt. If I could I would have a collection of vaporizers but a recent hospital bill of 7000€ doesnt allow me to do that.

I find that just the right pack (tamp) of finely ground herb, where it doesn't spill if held upright, and regular swabbing of the oven with a q-tip, as well as shaking and blowing out, kinda keeps it pretty cleanand debrs free. I'm a pretty heavy user, AA's only as a daily driver, and I have zero issues here. Also, maybe this is obvious, but remove and insert stems while holding AA upside down.

The problem is the draw resistance when you put the stem without a milimetre between the stem and the oven, without that little space the draw resistance is too high. And with that space you probably risk getting the fine herbs under the oven.
I already cleaned the oven with a qtip with the right amount of alcohol with the AA upside down and also used the blower that I have to clean my laptop.
Still feel that the black protection gets quite hot on the lowest temp and its winter here :/

Very well put. It's a versitle vape for sure. It can perform well at a lot of levels using various techniques. It's also 'rock solid reliable', easy to keep clean and modestly priced. It's also easy to use and get workable results and tolerant of mistakes.

It sets a high standard for other vapes for sure. The sort of thing you an recommend to a wide spectrum of folks.

2 words, dome screens.... no space necessary, fill to brim, light tamp, dry fine herb, it will sit tight

I'm going to take apart one of my older AA's.... no issues, no rush, just wanna screw the top cap off and see what is going on in there.... Research to be done, advice appreciated. That will be an extra brave day. Results (eventually) to follow and added to manual.

The Air is a great vape & I can highly recommend investing in some spare stems, batteries & a GonG. I own an EQ & try & keep it for the weekends as I find I use a lot more through it than the Air. I can get .1 to last me 10 minutes in the Air easily or a good couple of bubbler rips. In the EQ I tend to use .1 per bubbler rip even on the same temperature. It is more efficient in extracting the goodness, as it should be considering it is a desktop powerhouse compared to a battery operated vape. I use more because I still take the same amount of rips

If 80% of your vaping is at home a value based desktop is not a bad idea at all & you would do well to look at the SSV, DBV, LSV family or the HA or EQ. Firstly though I suggest "maxing" out the Air so it can be all it can be as it is a fantastic vape for on the go or around the house.

BTW that pneumothorax sounds painful as fuck. My best mate has his lungs "punched" with huge steel needles when we were 16 to "pop" them as he developed 2 or 3 excruciating bubbles as a direct result of monster bong rips. He would have loved vaping too pity none of us knew about this vaping caper in the 90's. RIP brother Ray

Solo isn't too bad either, though you sacrifice replaceable batteries and a sleeker body for more sessions and another usable temperature setting or two.

@Stevenski can confirm, pneumos are painful though not as bad as thoracoscopic wedge resection surgeries

My latest strain I'm trying is blissful (my description). The AA is slow cooking a relaxed, sip-type higu that I love. AAhhhhh......

- except, hanging around bars talking about the good old firefighting days, and I am not a glass kinda guy (except for my wine or beer).

More good news, just got rehired by the FDNY (part time, retired guy gig) as a "Fire Safety Educator", get to keep my old title (Captain) and create my own schedule. We could also call it a "Fuck Combustion Educator", either way.

More, more, good news, I'm so glad I doubled Christmas order, as many of my buds will want to sample (2z's vs 1z). I'll be hording this strain for quite some time. I'm calling it "Evening Bliss".

On another note, I wasn't comfortable with the lithium ion battery sleeve change. I followed the directions (tutorial posted here someplace). I need to get a clamp or vise for the heating part. I just don't feel comfortable holding a mini-bomb in my hands while using the heat gun (actually blow dryer). A nice long clamp, and more accurate sizing, and I'll give it another go....

I was laying in bed and I was shaking my blanket to find my air. It was tangled in the blanket and flew off onto the floor. It must have landed just right. My first one broke when it rolled off my kitchen counter and the second broke when I was fitting a screen for it. I have terrible luck.
