I like the dome screens much better, I use less herb, get the same results, in my own experiment!

Do you use it inverted as well? I do both... If I am vaping kief (often) the dome side goes down, then I add a second dome in the same fashion- sandwiched. But for flower I use it with the dome inverted. It's super efficient, that small amount will last on level 4 for a whole 12 minute cycle and still produce vapor that tastes good. I also think it helps my ABV get evenly toasted- never a need to stir and it's all the same color.

I have used 4 screens in various stems and went to count how many are left... 12 screens left! Guy is generous advertising 10 screens and delivering 16!

Yep, I think most folks do. It can, however, be put 'dome down' into the stem. This way it doesn't reduce capacity by much, but has a 'hidden' benefit that the area exposed to the mesh is huge compared to the four holes. You can pack it in harder (aiding the conduction) and not pay an overall penalty WRT draw. This also keeps the screen from fouling as fast since there's much more screen passing vapor and the holes in that screen bigger.

For their low cost and potential advantage I think all Solo/Air owners should 'give it a lash'. This is not a good decision to have some guy on the web who isn't even using his real name to make for you.

For sure, though my name is Craig, but still don't take my word for it ;)

I have now done a more scientific experiment, and first impression is still preference to non-domed screens.

However, it made me realise how much weed I am still using!

I weighed out 0.05g, placed a domed screen upside down in the chamber so the curved bottom was facing up where I then layered the weed.

Did the pre-soak to 6, then back down to 5 and started hitting my D020-K bubbler, was able to pull vapour for the full 12 minute session ( generally I take 30 second breaks between draws).

I then let it cool, removed the screen and then weighed another 0.05g and squashed against the chamber bottom and repeated the session.

Without the screen I got thicker clouds, though they started to peter out quicker, but I seemed to get more of a hit.

I accept that it was the second bowl, so all I was doing is topping up, but I still feel I get a better session without the domed screen.

HOWEVER, and yes that is a big however, I now seriously appreciate what @Jethro was saying about it being upside down and reducing the amount of herb used, as I never weighed my load before.

No wonder my initial impression was "without dome screen is better", I can 't believe how little 0.05g is! I think my normal session is @ 0.1g-0.15g / 0.2g, as I fill a stock solo chamber @ 1/2 - 3/4 full.

Using a dome screen is a seriously good way of keeping your load to a bare minimum, especially when used inverted, but my own personal preference is to get more of the herb touching the glass stem.

Always a pleasure, fun and educational taking part in the FC community, thank you!

Boy, are you right both times. What the next guy along might really want is always a factor. We are not alike....... "Best" is very subjective, and sometimes illusive.

And you're right about the FC community in general and some of the threads (this is one) in specific. Lots of 'sharp eyes' out, good exchange of information/experience/fun keeping it fresh and each other honest.

You're most welcome for whatever I can do there, it's after all the idea isn't it?

Merry Christmas to us all.

Very proper writing!

I use to smoke joints and my usage was ridiculous!!

As @OF say's!

It's subjective!

I personally like flat screens.

Some Like a PURE SATIVA or INDICA?

I like a HYBRID in the afternoon.
Most CANNABIS consumers still smoke joints in the state I live!
To vaporize is unacceptable where I'm from.
They consider me a heretic?
That's why i'm SOLO!

Smart People as yourself the world needs more of!

I don't have special screens, but I shape my screen and insert dome in, keeps my stems cleaner without reducing bowl size, which is important to me. I'm probably the only one to wish the bowl was just a little bigger!

Would the ideal be an Abe Lincoln hat shaped screen with an open column in the center, so that it was all evenly on the glass and not have so far to heat through? That's why this shit costs so much. I'd like to be using less but that doesn't seem to be happening, but I'm just a learner though I think I understand the science behind it. Inverted dome screen provides more glass contact per bowl but isn't it all relative to how tenacious you are, how much and how late you hit it? I stop when I'm not getting taste or volume, and if I forget and can't tell visually sometimes crank it to 6 and take a pull to make sure. I put my ABV in a jar with some oil this morning so if I can reclaim some as edibles that's a bonus. The small screens I have still need a tiny bit cut off so they lay flat, a trip to Ye Olde Head Shoppe may be in order.

Oh hell yes, that looks like an awesome setup! I'm happy to fuck combustion but fuck this forum for my wallet! That setup looks ideal. I might need to try that in the near future.

@al bundy, totally agree, the Ed's TNT is a pretty big bowl. Not to mention the vortex above, that allows for a big payload when you don't use the tophat screens. Dammit for Planet Vape being out stock on the 18mm vortex GonG. I've been checking for like 2 weeks. I would have bought that but ended up having to settle for the one on the right.

420 is a sensible religion!

I'm with you!

What I do is load a full bowl of flowers x 2!

CALIFORNIA LIV'N OG x 420 = SOLO x stem PHVES x CHILLUM for tip!
Level 4 is really all I can handle with this perfectly cured cola!

Can't wait for my GonG's to arrive!

Life is worth living when you own a SOLO for some of us?

No sin using the screen scheme that works for you......of course.

Sound to me like you should consider one of Ed's stems, IIRC they hold about 25% more?? In addition to their other charms, of course. My favorite is the 5400 YO Bog Wood. Cool to think that tree was growing before the Great Pyramids of Egypt were more than a wide spot in the sand.

I feel its' the modern way to consume cannabis.
We are really ahead of our time!!

Or are our friends just behind the times??
@Dr. Soxhlet let me get philosophical for a moment!

I found a new place to medicate!
Under my downstairs chimney
SOLO stem PHVES with a CHILLUM tip.
Glass of OLD VINE?
Pain?
What Pain?

CALIFORNIA LIV'N OG with a SOLO?

Wake up people!

All my buddies must be backwards?

VAPORIZING is civilized!

I do have an Ed's stem but my PV gong is my stem of choice with my D20 variant. It's like they were made for each other! Plus I like to get my stems super resined up so I can make the best hot chocolate ever on my days off. :)

Probably best avoid Ed's stems then, the wood part keeps floating to the top and messing with the marshmallows......

And nobody want's a soggy wood stem.

Best wishes.

Phuk the pills, I used Cannabis to help ween me off those darn man made pills! Pills are poison! Loving Cannabis and vaping SOLO!

Lots of us agree with you for sure, and prefer cannabis. Some folks might be fine with pills, I have no problem with that.......I just wish they didn't have problems with my choices.

Funny how that works out, too many don't think the other fellow merits the same considerations they demand. There was a rule about that popular in my youth, some called it "Golden", and you know what Gold can do to some folks principles........ There's some loose talk about 'tolerance'. Demands in many cases. That too seems to be one way.

Lucky for us, MMJ is slowly spreading, no states are backtracking. We are winning, even if slowly, a battle we should never have to fight.

So I am having a problem because of my Solo... it's too damn efficient! I try to keep two strains in stock at home as I feel the variety helps to keep my body from getting to used to one. So I have two grinders for each of my strains (usually only two at one given time). I'll grind up a gram at a time, it used to be my average consumption for a day. Well now with the Solo I am probably a 3rd of that. And we all know, cannabis is like coffee, you should grind right before you consume for the best flavor and freshness! So I have two grinders with dried out herb in them. I need to re-train myself to grind less material!!

DAMN YOU SOLO for being so efficient!

I wasn't going to comment today however my inventory is growing?
Some of my colas are from last year?

The SOLO is efficient and I don't care about that however it's kind of cool the SOLO is simple and works so well?

As far as grinding before use I couldn't agree more.

CANNABIS is what it is about!

The SOLO is just a no brainer!
