OK, there was definitely some confusion here. Most of the comments were directed towards Zephyr when they really should have been directed to the Dir of Sales/Marketing at Vaporstore. I've actually met Mack before and I am SHOCKED he would say something that idiotic.

I've always thought Vaporstore was one of the better online retailers and they should know better than that but realistically, a manufacturer cannot control what a distributor says. Enough about the marketing, does this thing work?!

Sure they can. The manufacturer hires the distributor to present their product in the marketplace. They can also fire that distributor if they feel that they are not representing the manufacturer the way that they would like to be represented.

So a manufacturer very much can control what their distributor says, unless of course, the manufacturer contractually gives up all recourse, which would be just as stupid as condoning this kind of communication by Vaporstore's marketing manager.

K.........think I've said enough on this. On to see if this thing works as stonemonkey suggests.

its all about leverage. Wal-Mart for example, is bigger than ANY of its suppliers and the suppliers have pretty much NO say in how the product gets shelved, advertised, etc etc. Walmart can dictate what type of electronic interface they use to communicate with their suppliers, the logistics providers that actually ship the product, and even go as far as the types of materials used in their packaging. I know this because the company I work for powers the supply chain of more F500 companies than any other organization and whoever is the bigger between the two trading partners, 100% of the time dictates how things are run and the smaller trading partner has to bend to their will.

I understand your point in that you should be cautious as to who you choose to represent your products. In an ideal world (if I were Zephyr) I'd give Vaporstore the big middle finger for this bad press and cease the partnership with them. Unfortunately, Vaporstore is one of the 800 pound gorillas for this industry so I can understand why Zephyr might be mums about the way Vaporstore has been marketing their product.

I'm a real idealistic dude but sometimes companies have to make decisions based on dollars and cents than what they feel is right in their heart. I just want to repeat, that I absolutely do not condone this type of behavior but I understand. The same way Chris Rock would never hit a woman, but he understands why another guy would.

Maybe the whole ploy was to get some public discourse on the Zephyr Ion - perhaps it worked?! Sorry, I just love business talk, esp sales and marketing :) - but not as much as VAPING!

Who has one of these? I'd love to see an unbiased review

SM, I totally understand the power that Wal-Mart has and companies that choose to do business with them should understand this going in. What I wasn't aware of is the clout that VaporStore has. Aren't there other distributors, such as VapeNow, that can do just as good a job for Zepher as VaporStore can do? And if they can, would that not hold some weight here?

Btw, I'm not suggesting that Zepher make any decisions based upon what they think is right in their heart, but instead, SHOULD make a decision purely based upon dollars and sense. Of course, I'm not suggesting that they should drop Vaporstore for this fuck up, but they should set them straight on this and tell them that they will not tolerate these kinds of marketing practices in the future. But then............maybe they already have.

It would be interesting to hear from Zepher on this along with a product or two for FC evaluation. ;)

Feel free to shoot them an email. I did. I'd be happy to send it your way after its been evaluated if they should happen to take me up on it. I just want to see how well it works. Dont really want it personally, I think it looks like a coffee maker. But if its an "affordable" alternative to the cano, I want to see it in action. It could help alot of people out that have to have the volcano. Give them another, less pricey option.
I originally got my Extreme cause it blew bags, but once the novelty wore off, well, I never really use that option anymore. Some of my friends love their bags though.

Brilliant novelty. I am in love and brag to my friends how my Extreme is a fricken computer. If the extreme had a usb port, you could use it screen (best image resolution on any vape out there) you could play some space invaders and shit... ON THE EXTREME, using the remote control to move of course.

Ahhh, Novelty.

Yet another super premium vaporizer. Yawn.

Just like video game consoles, the mass market price is $199 or less. I, and most tokers I know, won't spend $400 on a device. It's just not worth it. With all of this competition, you'd think the price would come down, or we'd start seeing features from the higher end models showing up on the mid-range models, but aside from new vaporizers entering the market and old ones disappearing, everything has pretty much stayed the same, with little price fluctuation. I mean, when is the SSV or another vape that's been on the market for quite a while going to come down in price?

It is a price reduction compared to the only other real vape in its category. The volcano, being that its an all bag vaporizer.

Im with you on the prices but the more quality vapes on the market should lower the prices. Give America time to get on the medial weed bandwagon and then demand should increase.

Beezleb,

Well, on a medium scale market such as this one, demand beats supply, and as long as that doesn't dip for the Volcano, then there won't be a price drop.

Not trying to give you a hard time sam, but not all vape makers place the same importance on forums, and even if they do consider this or any forum to be important, it doesn't mean they'd give any special consideration to the thread starter. And you originally made your post in the Inavap thread, and I suggested you repost in a new Zephyr thread. I could have just as easily started this thread myself, after seeing your post. ;)

I've found out that the Zephyr has been in development for about 18 months, so if it's aimed at another product, it's the Volcano, and not the Extreme, since the E hadn't even hit the market yet. The makers are also new to the vape industry, so that could be one reason why their initial appearance has been less than smooth. Their vape was very well received at Champs, so I'm sure they've got a good alternative to the 'cano.

My bags collect dust these days too, unless company comes over. Bags are easy for new vapers, but through the years I've seen most people that really get into the vaping experience move to direct draw. At the least, they want the option to use either method.

Interesting point. Economics was never a strong point for me, but sometimes prices don't go in the direction we expect.

You used to be able to buy an SSV (on eBay anyway) from 7th Floor for $165. Early last year they raised the price from $225 up to $250. Did their materials go up in cost? Don't know, but their production costs sure did. In '06 Steve, his sister, and one employee were it. Last year he was up to a dozen employees. I imagine it can be quite a balancing act to increase your cost of production in order to meet demand. As for a cheaper SSV, he provided that with the DBV. Cheaper housing materials and no custom glass, along with the SSV internal components, made for a quality product at a more affordable price. The DBV has been a huge success.

Prices on good box vapes haven't dropped in response to the dirt cheap Chinese digital units either. I guess Vapor Brothers hasn't seen much of a drop in demand. You can get an Easy Vape now on eBay for $60, instead of $150, but if you want the 5 yr. warranty it's still $150. For $60 you may get a few days to return a bad unit, if that. Easy Vape is supplying no warranty coverage for units they sell dirt cheap to resellers.

We want to acknowledge the recent misunderstanding and clarify for any one who was confused by our comment regarding the Extreme Vaporizer. It was an email reply we gave to a customer regarding a specific Extreme demo unit that we were having problems with, but since he just posted our reply it took things a bit out of context. Our intent was never to smear the Extreme as we agree that it is a poor marketing tacticone we would never resort to. We've asked our customer to refrain from posting emails in the future. Once again, we regret any confusion or trouble caused by the recent post.

Wow. Just spent a quick 20min going through this thread. Watched the review video too. Truly have little to no use for a pure bag vaporizer, but still somehow and somewhat intrigued.

Seemed logical for a company to go a route like the Zeph Business model. Producing a similar quality device to a Volcano w/ a sexy feature or two. The key to the campaign is to associate yourself with the Volcano as much as possible, as this is the biggest name in vaporizers. A household name. Say you are an equal in a "humble" way and we are cheaper, so why not us?

Questions i myself would ask are:
Is the Zeph of as of high quality of the Volcano as they claim?
Is bag vape truly the route I need or want to take to best accommodate my vape needs?

After that being said I sure would enjoy giving it a whirl. Zeph, drop me off a sample and I'll do a true full unbiased video review. Natural charm in video, no charge.

Yeah. I was at the local head shop recently and the girl behind the counter cited the Volcano as "the 'top-of-the-line' vapourizer." Obviously, she didn't know what she was talking about. But it shows most people think that.

There are propaganda sites like http://www.dopefiend.co.uk that shill the Volcano. I used to listen to the Dopecast Podcast on that site. I must admit, I did not do proper due diligence before I bought mine, and now I never use it. Time to put it up on Ebay. It's a party vape.

This explanation is more in line with what I've always seen come from Vaporstore.

Posting email content is also very much frowned upon here, and this is one good example-out of context.

Don't put it up yet, wait for a month to see if I get my student loan, hahaha. I'd like to have a decent party vape. Nobody knows how to use the SSV because (most) pot smokers haven't a clue about what they're at.

Hey guys just spoke to Zephyr today and we have one on the way - Ill be doing a personal review very soon. Ill post it up on this thread.

I used it at Champs - well had one of the cute girlies demonstrate it for me and it seems to work well and is pretty easy. The direct inhalation method isnt really what they were going for but we will include soft silicon tubing with it for those that dont want to do the balloon method everytime.
