next generation e-nails?

Hmm... That's a possibility. I didn't notice the smell when I used my best friend's D-nail (pukinbeagle quartz) years ago (some "5 star" bubble from a dispensary that I'm pretty sure had mold because my friends and I agreed it tasted like crap- and that's how I felt on it), but then again he only had encased coils- which the lotus may or may not have under the TI shell.

In other news, long story short my D-nail setup is on it's way back to albany- I'm returning it (props to D-nail customer service once again). Even if it was just the coil I was smelling, my experience with the lotus made me realize that it is extremely likely I react to oxidized titanium- I have always had adverse reactions to Ti coils on e-cig battery powered oil atomizers. I always figured this was due to hotspots burning my oil, but in retrospect I have overheated my ceramic e-cig atomizers to probably a similar point without the same reaction (though it's hard to compare temps of course). Also, I only use Tetra Labs pure gold- and unless limonene burns, there's nothing really left to burn in it.

I'm curious if anyone else using any kind of non-encased coil has noticed a "hot flat iron" type of smell with their nose 2-5 inches from their coil.

Now, since my D-nail is on its way back to HQ (and soon to be returned and no longer mine) I have been evaluation all my other options. I started by thinking back over the best experiences I have had- the "cleanest" vaping expereinces- and trying to research the airpath of those vapes (and the airpath of vaporizers that didn't quite deliver on that front). What I found was that what works for me is Glass/ceramic airpaths (Vaporbrothers and Thermovape Ceras- the vaporborthers had a stainless screen, but I don't seem to have a problem with stainless- and thermovape never released details on the composition of their custom heating wire, but I got the impression it was also iron-based). With that in mind, I have taken a look at what's out there.

Does anyone have any reason I shouldn't opt for a Galaxy E-nails setup?

Their vortex vaporizer is essentially a glass/ceramic lotus (except the vortex effect is implemented via a glass adapter), and their Odyssey e-nail has a fully encased heating element. There are other ceramic/glass vaporizers out there, but as far as I can tell they aren't pid-controlled- and temperature control is quite important to me for the sake of controlling the effects profile I get. Granted, the Herbalizer temperature control is on point (I got to demo one with Herbalizer staff) and according to the Herbalizer thread here I could probably get one for ~$500, but there are significant drawbacks with that option that I don't like (they're off topic in this thread). I do wish I had a friend with one so I could test it with oil though.

I'd love your thoughts on this :)
The vaporbrothers 2.5 uses Silicon Nitride. ..also says it uses a PiD

Great Scott!
Ok so I now have the DIY (fun as hell to assemble) D-nail 1.2, the D-nail universal carb cap, the sic, and the saphire. The d-nail fanboy pack I guess. I can't settle on a temp for really small dabs with this setup. Suggestions?

@darkrom

I've been using 627* as my standard temp for the SiC Halo.
This temperature works well with both my Auber RDK-200 and Auber RDK-150.
Both units are using Auber flat coils.

When using the SIC and dropping on the pre-painted sapphire insert: 777*.

Does prepainted or not even matter? Does 777 clear it in one hit with the sapphire insert.

I've been using 645 on the sic naked so I'm not far off there. I was going too low for the sapphire so that makes sense. I'll try that if it ever comes clean. Its soaking in iso for an hour and its still filthy.

^^^ I use 777* whether I "hot" or "cold" dab with the Sapphire insert.

Hot: SiC Halo and Sapphire have been on the nail and are @ 777*.
Apply dab to Sapphire insert.

Cold: Sic Halo is @ 777*.
Sapphire insert is @ room temp with it's "paint" applied.
Drop insert onto halo with some long tweezers, wait a sec until the pre-applied dab starts to liquify, then cap it and draw away.

777* leaves a bit of oily stain on the insert.
Pretty heady though.
Normally I just use the SiC Halo, put I also like using the insert.

For cleaning the insert soaking works a bit.
You can rub down a bit with ISO and a QTip, then put it on the Halo and crank up the temp to ~ 950*.
It will be nice and clean after the bake.

For dropping on the insert when the nail is hot I have a pair of stainless that work fine but I was going to pick up a pair of these: http://www.amazon.com/Halcyon-Premi..._UL160_SR160,160_&refRID=1XRDH7JFR6K3RNQTKBDJ.

Why do you normally prefer to use just the sic even though you have the INSERT? @alittledabwilldoya'

@darkrom I altered your text to reflect what I think you meant. :hmm:

I normally use just the SIC Halo (@627*) as one can do bigger dabs in the Halo than on the sapphire Insert and get fewer vapor trails.
The SiC Halo only dabs seem to affect me more strongly.

While the dabs on the Sapphire Insert (which is inserted on top of the SiC Halo @ 777*) taste more nuanced, and the effects seem to be more cerebral (I can still get shit done).
Plus the ritual of painting the insert is fun.

Full Sapphire Halos will be super dreamy.
When full Sapphire Halos are available to the public I am going to be hard pressed not to buy one.
Even at exorbitant pricing.

D-Nail, if you're reading this and the pricing is exorbitant, I will not buy one.

so are you saying the sic halo is worth buying? i already have a newvape enail, body, carb cap and i wanted to look for something new, been using it for maybe half a year. also can it be cleaned with high heat at around 1000f at 15+ mins without cracking or anything. the thing that really sucks is that if i do want to get the sic halo i need to buy a need flat coil, and the body total to around 190$......

Anyone has reviews on the liger enail banger? it has a quartz insert and the total is around 170$ for the insert and the ti nail.

Sorry I should have been specific. I was referring to vaping both flowers and concentrates- I meant the old school VB1. As far as considering a VB2 for myself, its a bit pricey for me (though I could get one), and I also want flower capability. Didn't know it used a PID, that's cool- but I would stand the chance of not having the temperature granularity I will want. I did look at the thread on it here though.

If you're not a heavy dabber, I'd look into the VapeXhale Evo with the VXNails. All glass airpath plus silicone if you use the whip for your own piece. If you do a low temp hit by setting it to noon and turning it off after the light goes red, the taste is amazing! That said I don't use it much anymore since I dab a LOT and I'm a clean glass freak so cleaning got to be a huge pain. Also the whip is a bit more awkward to use compared to an e-nail.

Thanks for the suggestion! I actually looked at that when they were having their black friday/thanksgiving/whatever they called it sale. That convection approach is what I plan to do- that's why I bought the Lotus adapter instead of a nail for my D-nail setup (this is a convection "herb vaporizer" head for a D-nail control station- it just happens to be mostly Ti which turned out to be a problem for me). It's just that I would prefer a digital pid readout temperature control for more consistent (I would imagine more precise as well but I don't know enough about the VapeXhale) results. Also, as you say cleaning would be a pain if I got any kind of a tolerance. This is something I considered and decided against- but again, thanks for your input! :)

That is exactly what I meant. Thanks. I'll try just the sic for a bit while I'm cleaning the sapphire. Nice to have options.

I'm currently using a Chinese fab egg, and a king of quartz banger...I do the torch it up...wait for 45 seconds then dab n cap... This was always what I was believing to be the best for flavor...my buddy uses this method and he owns two dnails that are collecting dust..

Would a enail and a SiC halo make that much of a noticeable difference?

I dab exclusively about 2 grams a week..

What carb cap should I get to go with the halo if ibdo get it?

IMO its way tastier than quartz. And consistent and no pooling issues. The ONLY cap to get is D-Nail universal. I had 2 that worked, but it works so nice with the D-Nail universal I've never hit something with nice air flow while capped before. Glad I spent the extra on it because both will last forever.

Hi all, I have limited access to internet ATM and cannot keep up with this thread at the best of times! Apologies to all who had asked questions.

By the way, is it just me or is this thread filling up with questions that have been asked and answered multiple times?

@MPZ, please PM me with you specific requirements and I'll do all possible to help you out - your case is a very specific one and strictly not necessarily relevant to the title of this thread ;) I apologize but I do not have time to find your posts in this thread that I have missed, given limited access to internet and my heavy workload.

Darkrom - I find that the quartz halo actually tastes better than the SiC halo (at higher temps on the quartz too!), however SiC halos definitely taste better than any other quartz, including quartz that is 3x as expensive as the SiC! Quartz ain't quartz!

I have said this before but this thread seems to be full of questions that have already been asked and answered lately, so I will say it again.

If you dab full melt hashes, get SiC. Quartz (even the halo) is a shitty heat conductor by comparison and doesn't get your material melting up quickly enough, leaving long, airy hits with less clouds and more effort to consume your dab ;)

However, quartz halos will taste better for rosin and solvent extract dabs that melt quicker ;)

Try your LHS man that's where I got my cap because every time I went to buy one they were out of stock. The shop gave me a discount because I got the sic dish, carb cap, and sapphire insert all together then ordered the slim base from dnail because I couldn't find it at any of the headshops in my area
