Maybe vaping isn't for me or ?

@Oregonnewbie lots of good advice already. I had the advantage in that when I switched to vaping, I was only up to 1x/day tiny hit off a bong at night. I got really f'd up the first vaping because I didn't get the same disorientation and sleepiness as with the bong, so I kept vaping and then got a little too high accidentally.
Try getting a log vape or a desk style vaporizer if you want a strong hitter.

True. My underdog does produce nice clouds with little effort! And it was way less than $500!

would like to ask that we stop recommending a Volcano

People love their volcanoes. Personally, for that money, I think I might choose something else because I do not fancy using a bag. That is just me though. I feel the same way about how everyone preaches the mighty/crafty (same manufacturer as volcano I think). My brother in law has a mighty and I do not love it enough to spend that money and choose it over my Haze. I like the quick heat up and the digital display, but prefer the flavor and smoothness from my Haze. Personal preferences, I guess.

Man, I enjoy bags a lot, with my EQ, and still wouldn't get a volcano. I'm sure they're built like tanks, and last forever, and produce good clouds, but they're just too pricey for *just* a bag vape in my opinion. They're good for certain medical users, I'm sure, but I think the volcano really shines as a frat house vape, you know what I mean? The sort of thing you fire up with a huge bag for a circle of 4-5 people. Not what your average person needs. I mean, unless the vapor quality is just that much better, but I have a hard time imagining that, but maybe I'm just a man of simple needs, and my EQ seems to perform wonderfully. I am getting a waterpipe and new whip to use with it though, for kicks and giggles, but that's another point.

Back to the original topic, though. I think that vaping definitely isn't for everyone, but on the other hand, it also takes some getting used to. As someone who still combusts, either with a bubbler or waterpipe, or the rare spliff or joint. Blunts are just too wasteful in my opinion, they use a ton of herb and are fun for groups and celebrations. Some people just prefer combustion, and that's fine, different strokes for different folks. I do notice that vaping sneaks up on you more, and it's a lot clearer of a high. I love it. I also love combusting high's, too, but for different reasons. I can totally understand how someone might not enjoy a vaporizer high nearly as much, if they aren't looking for it, don't know what it's like, and really love the instant hit you tend to get from smoking, and the hazy feeling that comes from it.

I didn't really notice the distinction in vaping until one morning over last summer, I woke up before my girlfriend, and best friend who crashed on my couch. I, foggy from the night before, made some coffee and eggs, ate, and went downstairs to my smoke spot in my house. I fired up my EQ, and had a bag and a half before my girlfriend joined me. In that time, I realized just how high I was, from vaping alone, and fell in love with that sort of high. Before that, I usually smoked and then vaped in the same session. Now I really enjoy sessions where I just vape down a bowl on my flowermate, or have a bag on my EQ, and enjoy the ride. Maybe give that a shot? Try just vaping, after being completely sober, and give yourself time to really feel it.

I found originally that dwelling on if I were getting high or not can ruin the high. If you have a low tollerance a FM should absolutely get you high if you are turning the entire bowl to dark ABV. otherwise I dunno, harder hitting vape?

After some practice and some more burn offs and replacing that shite mp screen, my FM isn't too bad now. It's growing on me. And after having a wake and vape with it this morning, I can definately say it does get you high. Vaped 2 loads with it over a couple of hours, a few hours ago. And I'm jus coming back to earth now.

Anyway my point is that iv given the FM alot of stick and now I feel that for the price, maybe it's ok. And if I can get high from it, with my tolerance, I'm sure anyone can..

I think vaping is for everyone. Only because they got that addiction-style "I have to smoke" ritual where smoking a joint (w tobacco in europe at best) is so much better than anything else, they have a hard time to overdulge that. They just need to get into the rhythm of not smoking, namely the 1-3 week orientation phase to get the actual vape high and 2nd stopping to smoke cigarettes as if they don't mind the ugly smell of smoke while having impaired ability to smell something due to smoking. If you actuall get off smoking cigarettes and smoking in total, a tobacco joint tastes icky, a pure joint a bit better. But you need to start to hate that "stinky hands" again you get after smoking. I don't think anyone liked that when they first started smoking.

And unless you have more money than weed (like a millionaire in colorado) and give a siht to your health, vaping is definitely the right way.

Vaping is cleaner! I started when I rented an apartment... vaping is so much more stealth. No worries if the landlord stops by unlike smoking. Also on the go, if you know what I mean. If I'm in an auto it's safer with less smell. And how about keeping around bowls, and bongs used for smoking- talk about stink! Vaping equipment get's nasty but not THAT nasty.

Vaping is tastier! Ever pack a bowl to smoke with your buds and have someone say "it's my turn to start it!" That's because it only tastes good the first time to light it. After that- charcoal, smoke- YUCK mouth- we all just suffer through it to get a buzz. Vaping releases the best flavor cannabis has to offer. Only cooking with pure flower can extract equivalent or better flavor. Many more hits can taste yummy to more of your crew.

Vaping is more potent! When you train your body to realize the difference of what the tar/charcoal feels like and what the cannabinoids feel like you will realize that you get much more high off vaping. Much of what you think is being "high" is actually a shitty, groggy, foggy haze that is generated by the burning of organic material and clogging your lungs. eyes, etc.

Vaping is more efficient! I get high off the flower in the vape. When I grind I get kief (as before when I smoked), when the flower and kief is vaped I save that, cook it and make an amazing butter and chocolate chip cookies with. My cookies are legendary among my friends, they get you BAKED BEYOND BELIEF! It's a double use of the plant in the best way and 100% full extraction. Can even reclaim wand hash.

Vaping is healthier! Subjective or not, anything is healthier than smoking.

Vaping is safer! No burning material or lighters, no sparks, no burnt fingers, no dropped cherry in the car to burn your new seats or your favorite shirt.

Vaping is for everyone!!! It takes a commitment at first, then at one point it clicks- vaping has no disadvantage to smoking, only advantages! Like so many members on this board, if you just give it a chance and break those old habits you will realize... VAPING IS FOR YOU. (drops microphone)

If you find yourself asking if your high for more than ten or twenty minutes, fair odds: Your high, and you don't realize the effects/difference between a vaporizer and a smoke buzz quite yet. Could be a possibility...

EDIT: OP, with vaporizers holding in your hit as long as possible is different than smoking. With smoking you at the very most need around 4 solid seconds to absorb everything "good"- with vaporizing, the longer you hold it in, the stronger it becomes IME.

With vaporizing far as holding your hits in as long as possible. When taking a draw the draw itself can take as long as you decide. Sometimes I take a 15 or 20 second draw other times maybe a 5 second draw, more of a sipping kind of a mood. You only need to hold in your draw for say 3 or 4 seconds. It's up to you if the longer hold works better.

Holding a hit in your lungs works counter to what people think is happening. When you hold your breath respiration stops and your blood is stuck holding CO2 and is no longer absorbing oxygen and THC. How breathing works to get you high is caused by the 'movement' of air over the avioli promoting the exchange of CO2 and O2 within the blood. When a person holds their hit in this exchange process of gases in the blood is stopped. The best advice is what @CarolKing suggest a 15 or 20 second draw. The object here is to have the maximum of THC filled air to slowly move over the avioli for a longer period of time per draw.

Thank you for telling me this, I had no idea and am glad you pointed it out to me!

I'm a swimmer, so for me, holding my breath for extended periods of time is no hassle, at least, to me.

Thanks again for clarifying on this, I'm not out to give bad advice!!!

EDIT: I should note my daily driver is a VG, so I'm used to vaping quite a bit quite fast. Maybe that comes into play?? Opinions?

This is to the originator of the thread: What's happening with your vaping and the color of the ABV? Lots of suggestions to buy a new vape but the flowermate is not a bad one. Unless it's defective in some way it should work well enough as a first vape. If you grow to like vaping, then get one of the recommended vaporizers. I can't tell from your post if your new to vaping or new to marijuana. When I first started getting stoned way back in my twenties, I was totally toasted but didn't know I was. I was pretty convinced that I was not getting stoned. Vaporizers are a bit more subtle.

Yea pretty much spot on! I found holding hits or the redraw technique helpful at first, don't know if I actually got higher or the placebo effect of holding in clouds for a long time allowed me to believe I was at least getting some "high" during the combustion-vape transition.
Not sure how well the FM works through water as I have not tried, but vapor bonging or even just rigging up a 3rd lung of sorts might also help. I found that while the long sipping sessions I was doing (originally had a titan 1 :/!... Although probably the closest thing in my current line up to a FM, which I have used a handful of times) would get me high but not in a way I was used to. In the same way when combusting I would roll up a .5 joint, smoke it know that something happened but regret wasting the "X" ammount of bong snaps in one joint. Even the titan 1 which I would assume is less powerful than the FM worked In a bong, And got me super ripped, eventually I phased the bong out as it was home made and the titan MP wasn't made for normal bong sizes.
My consumption vaping vs just smoking bongs was more due to the large bowl and my tendency to think I needed 3 or 4 however with all the joints I used to smoke it was probably about the same. Now that I have the hang of it, a few vapes that I find more suited to myself and I actually understand and prefer the vaping high I can use much less than those first few months. I find now my usage is still pretty high, but I know now that my "minimum" is much lower, that ammount that we need to at least scrape by if things are dry or money is tight. I would say if I had to really conserve for an entire week, I wouldn't be happy about it but I think with the vapman I could make do with .25ish a day smoking I'd want at least .5 maybe less with a dugout, but the VapCap is out soon so vaping for me might get even more efficient.

Also, pack it a little tighter conduction session vape so it will need to be packed reasonably tight. Of these 8 hits are any of them producing visible vapor on exhale? I got reasonable cloud production when I used one on the highest setting.
Grind as fine as you can, fill the chamber and set to the highest heat setting. When it's hot enough take long slow draws and hold in the vapor for at least 6 seconds, after the first few draws you should see vapor on exhale. Stir the bowl if needed, put some tunes on and try not to sit and ponder if you're actually high. If 2 or 3 dry pipe hits can get you high, a whole FM bowl should get you lifted it has a tendency to creep up.

I didn't really get vaping for the first couple of months. It obviously tasted better right away, but it just wasn't getting me where I wanted to go. So, for a while I would smoke a little and vape a little.

What finally did the trick for me was upgrading to desktop vape and fucking combustion for, at least, a few weeks. When I went to try smoking again I realized it was really gross. It smelled and tasted awful, and the high was. Whatever it was in my brain that thought it wasn't getting high enough has gone away. I get plenty baked. Especially the first tokes of the day.. holy moly... I get way higher vaping than I ever did smoking.

tl;dr: It's in your head. Vaping is awesome. Upgrade vapes. Fuck combustion.

I like to take a long draw like 15 seconds, only hold about 3 seconds, breathe out about 20% of what I took in, hold for 3 seconds, breathe in to fill that 20% again, and repeat this cycle. It keeps the vapor moving over the lung avioli and gives the lungs lots of time/opportunity to grab those goodies ;)

Doing this method next to a light, I've been able to see vapor exhaled after 5 cycles. IMO, it helps you get maximum extraction. I only have a tiny stash so this is important to me...

I have always just inhaled as deep as possible and let it out immediately. And used to get accosted by my peers for it! I blame Peter Fonda in Easy rider teaching Jack Nicholson to smoke a joint... "No, man, you gotta hold it in your lungs!" No, no you don't Peter!

Interesting differences on inhale. Because I have asthma, I always thought I should inhale some plain air as well as vapor, so I use half capacity to inhale vapor (usually pretty slowly unless my UD when I am going for lower temps), then the other half to inhale plain air. I hold for a few seconds at best.

My brother-in-law read some tip online to do what I do, but then squeeze a little more inhale at the end through the nose. He SWEARS it increases his high, but I think k placebo effect.

It is interesting to see the different ways, times and methods people inhale and hold their vapor hits!

As mentioned before, I love a swimming, so my "breath hold" time is important to me if I want to stay underwater longer to enjoy the view. I never thought much of holding in hits for a while, because in my case, I always practiced breath hold techniques in and out of water; totally sober, period. Don't practice breath holding medicated. Ever.

Usual "static time" (holding breath without moving) is about 45 seconds to a minute and a half, for me. This varies person-to-person and you should not ever practice breath holding without a buddy around.

To elaborate on what I do with my Bronze Sherlock:
1-Preheat, flame 1/2" into VaporCap for about 3-4 seconds at most. A small torch reduces preheat time for me drastically, if not entirely; though others may have different views and experience with this due to lighter differences/flame size.
2-Slow draw, about 3-4 seconds, until lung capacity is at 50-70%, depending on your comfort level.
3-Inhale fresh air after initial "hit" to fill up lungs, at a slow to medium pace.
4-Hold hit for about 5-6 seconds.
5-Optional- Exhale about 25% lung capacity, inhale fresh air, repeat at your own comfort level!
6- :freak:

I'll give it a go with shorter holds and longer, slower inhales tonight.

I just suppose I hate seeing medication in clouds! The bag idea is nice, but I really don't have a bag I feel is "safe" for re-inhalation nor do I want to buy a bloody vape bag. I've always hated bag vapes to begin with.

Anyway, I suppose I'm totally bias because I practiced holding my breath since I was young- swimming is without a doubt my favorite sport/hobby/pass time.

Im really good at holding my breath too. But because of all the smoking games I used to play all the time. Me and my mates spent alot of our youth holding our breath. We could easily crack a minute. I used to be good for a minute and a half before I would start to taste the iron taste at the back of my throat.
So I can still hold my breath for ages if needs be.
