My dabbed from my HE mini carb cap screws in perfectly and I believe the mini and full size have the same threading on the tools the only one that's different is the parti cap dabbed because it's hollow

thanks you so much for the quick response! looks like im gonna order that dabber now! do you like the ball point or flat head more? havent tried a ballpoint dab tool yet, but seems like it would be messier

I use a glass dabber most of the time now that I upgraded my nail from a Quartz banger, but when I used the ti a lot I used the flathead more be because it is a little more versatile and durable ( won't bent and the tip won't snap ) but with shatter or sappy/runny concentrates I used the ballpoint tool

Ahhhhh makes sense. If i could find a glass carb cap to fit my quartz halo i would have done that but most places like etsy do not include the size. so frustrating lol.

I think I remember people on here saying the hive carb cap fits, and that would taste as good as Quartz imho the only downside it's not transparent and doesn't fit inside the rim of the halo just over it

So I decided to go with the auberins RDK 300 since the high5 no longer comes with the flat coil and the auber has more features but I was wondering about how long the DHgate (specifically hyman Quartz) coils take to ship as I'd like to have my full enail set up ASAP, i just want a flat coil that's gonna last more than a month or two and not take more than a month (tops) to ship. Debating a dhgate one for 30 or the flat coil ( coil only) for 45 from high five as I assume that one would arrive much sooner. I'm new to the electronic heaters and horrible with electronics in general so thank you guys for all the help and advice I really don't know what I'd do without FC haha I always look on here before buying anything cannabis related
The high5 coils are wired differently than Auber units so the coils aren't compatible. You could get the flat coil off amazon but it comes from china so it would take a couple weeks to be delivered.

Do you have both? Auber and highfive?

I'm on the fence between the two.

Rdk 200+ that coil you linked amazon or highfive.

Price is both relatively the same. 110-120

ABSOLUTE BEST CASE SCENARIO I'll get a liger. Think I'M getting a turtle banger first though.

@rolln_j

my slim series came with a ti washer they called the "heater retainer" that goes under the coil, and i'm not seeing it in your picture.

maybe that would solve the problem? or is it that the heat sink is not long enough to fit the coil and the heater retainer?

i'm using a 710whip ceramic donut heater fwiw.

yeah I cant thread the nut to hold the dish on the top if I put the retainer on - there is about an 1/8" gap between the heat retainer and the first rib of the heat sink - If i reamed out the hole so it didnt thread on and was more like a washer it would go down far enough to allow me to use it

ohh yea I absolutely can't wait.

yea i'll just go ahead and buy the highfive. Its cheap and it'll get the job done.

Can you recommend any cheap nails? preferrably that would fit a 16mm nail (unless i should opt for the 20mm)

I've found that these hybrid titanium nails add some weird (metallic?) taste to dabs as they oxidize. After they get to the point that they wont really oxidize anymore I can't taste it anymore. Maybe you're smelling the same thing and it'll go away after the heat oxidizes the titanium as much as it will at your set temp?

Ugh... That sounds like I'm going to have to season my entire lotus adapter.... I guess I'll have to talk to d-nail about it on monday. This oversight might cost me... it should have occured to me that with my sensitivities, TI might cause me problems at high temps even if it never touches the oil (at low temps/no heat it's fine). It's funny, because I've been using the TI wicks in my Kind MD carts with no problems... for mostly very low temp convection. So maybe I'll just have to do some seasoning- after all, seasoned Ti is in many ways just Ti with a layer of ceramic formed around the outer layer.

It's funny- just recently on reddit I saw someone insisting any hot Ti in the airpath= offgassing, but I figured I would be ok due to convection... turns out I should have listened to the part of me that got concerned. But then, my options outside of the lotus just aren't very good. There's the herbalizer, but it's more expensive, on a non-upgrade-able platform, not very friendly to rigs, and it's build quality is all style no substance. Granted it's temperature control is beyond any of the many other vapes I've hit (I got to hit one and learn about it from herbalizer staff) with herb, but outside of that I am simply not a fan of its design.

@Monsoon
Maybe once by accident, but like i said I washed it in 99% iso and it didn't change a thing.

@chainz
I will try that, but it doesen't smell like something's burning. It smells... like a hot flat iron or a space heater or something along those lines- but only when I put my nose quite near it. Alas, I think its the oxidizing I'm noticing... but as I said I will check.

Thanks for your help guys!

I JUST BOUGHT THE AUBER AND THE AMAZON COIL..WISH ME LUCK GENTLEMEN...
Tell me how you like it! Did you go with the 200 or 300? And what shape coil ?

And is there a specific term for the wiring/connector in the dnail and auber stuff? I thought it was 5 pin xlr but is that not specific enough ? I don't wanna get the wrong stuff and possibly start a fire or fry the electronics, my lack of knowledge on electricity and devices of that nature is the main reason I haven't gotten a torchless set up yet

You've nothing to worry about IME man. I have never, ever tasted any weird metal smell and I used my flower adapter right out of the box! :)

Regardless, it can't hurt to just run the heater hot for a moment to ensure any manufacturing residue is cooked off when you first get it. I usually do this with all vapes. The flower adapter warms up and cools down quickly ;)

I received mine last night.
Still haven't used it.
As noted the threads are not long enough to accommodate heat retainer / coil / Halo / top nut.
One can definitely put it together sans heat retainer as pictured by rollin_j (& D-Nail on their site).

What's the report on heat levels underneath the slimline?
Are people just using it as pictured (and presumably designed) be D-Nail?

Honestly I'm surprised that there aren't enough threads to accommodate the heat retainer in addition to a flat coil.
Flat coils are the prime driver for DNail equipment; having the heat retainer under the coil seems like it would protect the glass quite bit better than a naked coil.

But air is a better insulator than a Ti washer ...

You can absolutely fit your heater retainer either below or above your 120v coil (but not both). I do not use the retainer below the coil as this is a completely useless exercise IME (and I've used this base since long before it was released). I was saying that on the 220v coil you cannot fit the retainer with a flat coil in either configuration. This does not apply to 99% of you here.

I use the 14mm female base that attaches to a 14mm male joint. It keeps the heat off of the glass supremely. The base gets hot, but the glass below it never gets hot - even at sapphire cleaning temps!!!

To get the flat coil to fit with the heater retainer in place you need to really press the pieces together as you screw the nut on otherwise it seems like the threaded part isn't long enough. And make sure the heater retainer is screwed all the way down and not getting hung up on any burrs.

yo @MileHighLife

how is that turtle banger treating you?

Im getting that BOSS knockoff from dhgate..but i also want a flavor savor (quartz) for my 16mm coil.

I'm thinking very hard on that turtle banger, and at 45..!

The way I see it.. i can buy a hyman quartz and an adapter for about 20 all together. About how long until one of those breaks? in half a year, how many have you gone through? (this is for anyone that's bought and used dhgate hymanquartz quartz bangers/nails)

If they break as often as i think... Then instead of buying 2 of them and waiting 2 weeks, buy 1 turtle banger and recieve it less than a week.

But comes to the question of how durable//good is the turtle banger?

The opening hole looks a little too small....is it? I dont take slab dabs or whatever, just me.

is it durable?

will it absolutely fit my 16mm barrel coil?

sorry for all these questions.

thanks in advance ! :)

I like the turtle banger but don't break glass often so I'm not really worried about the durability. It's quartz, though, so it will break very easily. Quality is there ... some decent looking welds and looks like the joint was ground in house. I'm kind of curious who makes the quartz for CCA.

The flavor is really nice and it's able to vape a decent size dab away completely at 595 F with no vapor trails.

I'm not sure how the 16mm would be as I have the 20mm and the opening is already narrow.

OK so basically... Titanium is best for uniform heating and durability.

Quartz is best for flavor but is fragile and can break. I've noticed a lot of brands and companies just throw these two together...

Liger... Full titanium body with a small nub shaped quartz dish.

Turtle banger... Quartz surrounded by titanium.

Halo... Ti but quartz "halo dish"

I was wondering... If i had a piece of broken quartz, quartz is quartz right?

What if I just threw that on my domeless? Yea, it might jiggle jiggle around, but wouldn't the gist of the flavor saving be made?

Let's say I have a quartz clock or something. and it burst into a bunch of pieces. I take a small piece and throw it in middle of my ti nail. As I heat the ti nail, the quartz also gets warmed from direct heat of the ti (being warmed by the enail coil)

Would this serve the same purpose as the other ones?

The ultimate "poor man's not spending 100$ on something ican do for 15$"

Edit: obviously it wouldn't be tight fitting or pretty. But that would avoid the whole problem of thermal shock, right?

Let me address some of the points here.

Ceramics of any kind (from the plain old white ones to SiC and SiN) are all much better heat distributors than Ti, and taste infinitely better to boot!

Quartz is absolutely not the best for flavor. Sapphire is hands down the best flavor that you will find on any nail. SiC and the D-nail Quartz halo (which has a wicking surface and flat heater to reduce abovementioned pooling, but still will get more pooling than sapphire) is great for flavor and won't be beat by much that is available right now though. I have owned and used >$200 quartz nails many times and these cannot even hold a candle to the flavor you get from the quartz halo (which costs considerably less!).

By the way, quartz is not necessarily quartz. Various grades will prioritize purity of silica over stability of form, etc. Moreover, the shape and size/surface area/mass etc of the quartz will determine how useful it will be for our application.

Do not bother with ti, there is no reason to dab on a ti surface when using an enail in this day and age. The exception here is the ti base on a d-nail halo. These bases do not seem to effect the taste at all. I have never tasted ti when using any of the halos.

If you have less money to spend, get the SiC halo with a 1.4 slim series base. It'll cost you more than extra cheap chinese quartz and ti, but those materials just don't come close and by the time you replace a few cheap nails, you could have bought the SiC anyway, which is more durable, tastier and 54329083504985349053480594383049583409534x better at conducting heat.

If you're on a lower budget, get yourself a domeless.com ceramic nail, which will taste worlds better than any cheap ti/quartz on the market.

Onto the liger nails, I have never used one of these in person. I would like to see what a liger quartz/ti hybrid functions like, but it costs more than either the quartz or SiC halos FFS!

The quartz inserts are crazy pricey! How is a 16mm quartz insert $70 when a dnail sapphire insert is $50????? Lab grown sapphire such as that used by NASA for windows and lenses up in space costs a fortune more to manufacture than a small piece of workaday quartz, which is manufactured EVERYWHERE! This price discrepancy is not justifiable given materials costs and the fact that the sapphire insert also has the wik surface! I would recommend saving yourself the cash and buying a SiC halo or quartz halo (you could get either with a sapphire insert and still spend the same kinda money as most Liger combos cost).

The cheapest liger ti with quartz insert combo runs $170, whereas the quartz halo (machined in a way that ensures the thinnest film vaporization and hence best flavor/more complete vaporization currently possible with quartz) can be had with a slim series base for $140.

The cheapest liger ti with SiC insert costs $180, the dnail slim series base with SiC halo can be had for $120.

The math speaks for itself.

Now if you are gonna use torches at all ever, get the SiC.

If you want the best flavor with less durability and slightly less complete vaporization, get the quartz halo.

Hope this helps man.

Alright.

Finally got the slimline nail together last night.
@rolln_j You really do have to press it together to get the heat retainer to fit with the coil and Halo.
I think it could use a couple of more threads.
I was doing a test fit on my back-up/travel Enail controller and heat runner, an Auber RDK-150.
It's 12VDC compatible, with flat coil heat runner that looks like it's the same height as the flat coil for an Auber RDK-200, which is my home controller.
However, it appears that the 150's coil is slightly taller, making it incompatible with the slimline (as you noted @herbivore21); no big deal as I have a V1.3 base that will work nicely with the 150's coil.

Regarding the the V1.4 base itself:

I quite like it.
Better aesthetics (subjective).
Waaaaaay better fit in my 14mm female dropdown vs. the 14/18 combo base of the V1.3.
It lowers the height of Halo by ~ 1/4", which isn't much, but it's noticeably easier to use.
(My drop-down, is more of "move forward" so the slight reduction in height is welcome).
Most notably I find that the 1.4 base provides more resistance in drawing in vapor than the 1.3 base.
Must be slightly smaller/more restricted air-path in the 1.4.
I like the minor change in enhale resistance.
It makes it easier to @Slow Draw McGraw one's hit and provides more re-cirulation in the ol' recycler:

Thanks guys!
