I just ordered my bubble extraction machine last night. It will be here tomorrow :). Along with puck press and 8 bag system. I ordered a straightner that gets down to 176F an oris. This friday im ordering my press.

That's awesome work dude! I see presses like yours becoming the norm for home users 6-12 months from now, it's compact, powerful and not too expensive.
Holy crap @2clicker that rig is sick :science: well done brother!!!

thanks for the kind words bros! now i just need funds for some frosty flowers. or i may source some bubble of which im sure @herbivore21 likes to hear. im just not sure the bubble i can get is cost effective compared to flowers return wise.

as an experiment i attempted to press some prewashed QWET nugs last night. didnt get shit out of them. the QWET return was quite good if i remember so i supposed i got it all out in two washes. i used 25 micron SS mesh from 316Twholesale and made a pouch. filled it and smashed the piss out of it for about 2 mins at almost exactly 200F. the only thing i accomplished was getting the flowers stuck to the mesh. and its not oil making it stick. i may have pressed a bit too much/hard.

thinking about trying the same experiement, but with some light brown ABV. i dont plan on getting much of anything, but figure the practice is good until i do get a real starting material. after reading more of what i missed in this thread it sounds like i need to try to hydrate the ABV and try to fuck with the different parchment folding methods for routing the oil.

i did read that someone... forgot who... was saying they much prefer SS mesh for a filter over the poly filters. i find the SS pouch a total PITA to open after the press. i was wondering what the SS mesh has over poly mesh for our use.

real starting material and bevoda packs are in the plans soon me thinks.

@Monsoon sexy press man! Black and red looks wayyyyyy better than my gray and blue. Now I have to go get some spray paint and paint mine black this weekend  damn you

@2clicker by far the best complete DIY press to date! Looks so nice. Seriously very well done! I really want a smaller press like yours but I'll probably wait until my H press gives out. I showed a friend a pic of yours and he went out and bought a bottle jack that night lol.

Wasn't there a parts list somewhere for your setup? Time for me to do some searching!

Some words of wisdom for everyone (mostly common sense but I guess I don't have much of that haha). Don't keep sap/pull n snap and shatter on the same piece of folded parchment. I pulled the parchment apart quickly (to keep the pull n snap in one piece) and the shatter went flying sky high. Now I can't find it anywhere hahaha. Maybe it's in my hair :doh:

Oh man @2clicker if you can get your hands on good bubble you are on a one-way trip to squish town! YMMV depending on the quality of the bubble so I definitely recommend trying a sample first and seeing how it measures up in the squish test ;)

I still don't get why people aren't just using muslin cloth like I am!? Seems like the micron screens are a lot more money for no additional benefit (I own plenty of said micron screens btw)...

I would like to check out the SS screens but I do wonder if they are like ss screens for solvent teks, which IME wick way too much solution (necessitating the use of much more solvent) and are no more effective than whatman style standard paper lab filters or even an unbleached coffee filter with proper lab filtration technique (pre-wetting filters etc) depending on the SS mesh being used - but I digress, solvent teks are for other threads!

The website showed it as all red so I was planning on painting, but now I don't have to

Everything has been ordered now and is on the way to me, now all I can do is wait. I'm usually pretty patient up until the last week and there's a chance it might be here by Friday!

Also avoid leaving it on the same folder parchment because exposed to the elements outside of an airtight container, you will get more nucleation happening. I have found some of my flower rosin autobuddering, which in this specific material ends up in less of a nice taste! I do also need to dry these nugs out some to prevent this happening in my specific case too ;)

I don't use any type of bag screen or anything and I RARELY get plant material in my oil...lucky maybe? I'd like to think it's because the flowers are hydrated but I don't know.
Me neither bro, I was given to understand that most don't use screens for bud squishing?

I did notice that the more "moist" flowers did produce a butter consistency. However, just leaving it on the paper for a day or two exposed to the air, it turned to snap and pull. @BoogerMan is right too. I have left some snap and pull on the paper and it turned to shatter...I was aware of it so didn't have any flinging around the room fortunately.

Definitely! I normally make a little rosin every night so it gets all used up within hours (I use parchment for this). But if I press out a couple days worth I always put them in the little nogoo containers :D

Yep no screens for me either with bud pressing. One nug at a time. Slow and steady wins the race haha. I could see screens being used for trim/shake or with large amounts of nug but not on our small plates.

I've gotten used to doing larger QWET batches so I'm looking to do larger pressings at single time. I have some 2x3 poly Mash Mesh bags coming soon which I'll be using for pressing but I'll look into muslin bags too. From what I've seen online, I think I can get maybe 7-10g in at once with some pre-pressing and I have the option of using dry sift too. I'll try to get a tripod for my cellphone too so I can post some squish videos up here.

I'm excited to see how pressing larger amounts turns out!

I was also used to doing large batches of BHO (1/2 to 1 oz at a time) every 2-4 weeks, but that was only because purging took 3-5 days so doing smaller runs wasn't reasonable.

However since rosin takes 0 days to purge I find myself doing it much more often. Usually 2-5 days per week. If I know I have a slow week I'll press every night or every other night. If I have a busy week, I'll spend 30 minutes on Sunday and press a 1/4.

If for some reason I knew I was going to have zero free time over the course of 2 weeks, I would press a 1/2 oz. This still wouldn't take very long doing 0.5g nugs at a time. Here's the breakdown: Heat up time only takes 10-15 minutes, cutting 28 pieces of parchment takes 5 minutes, squishing 28 half gram nugs takes about 30 minutes, and collection takes 10 minutes. So overall I'd say you could squish a 1/2 oz in under an hour. That would easily last me 1.5-2 weeks. I'd miss using my press if I waited more than 2 weeks lol :D

Plus you can't beat fresh rosin

BHO was a bit of a pain and took forever. Rosin is the exact opposite. Fun and quick. You may find yourself doing it more often than you think. At least I did :)

I squished a quarter twice in two hours a few days ago. I don't mind making bho as long as im not completely out of dabs n without anything to squish*haven't smoked flowers in quite a few months* I actually just blasted 3 oz of trim, no fans real sugary.

EDIT- my bubble machine was delayed a day because of weather :( still 3 days away from hash rosin. Has h20 in the hash rosin been proved to actually increase yields in a positive way? If so how long do I actually wait till I squish it?

Damn, this sounds like it's going to be a lot of fun! I did my monthly grab today and now have Chocolope, Sour Diesel and Girl Scout Cookies ready to press when everything comes in. Before I'd have to wait up to 3 weeks to try them all. I've tried all 3 before with alcohol extractions but there's always something missing from the flavor since I lose a lot of terps during the purge (I can smell them coming off). And I also still have some ChocolopeXPowerPlant in flower form so I can do a direct comparison between rosin and QWET both in taste and yield.

The best part is, having a friend over that has never even heard of rosin. You show them the whole deal from start to finish and I swear they will think it is the best thing ever. It's even better when you tell them to bring over some of their favorite bud, then you provide them with a dab of their yummy strain a minute later :D They won't believe how quickly you turn bud into liquid gold  Scrape up a dab right off the parchment you pressed on then bombs away! It will blow their mind :smug:

Whoa, so I took a look at my slick wrap under the microscope after a squish and collection (then thorough finger rub to get any shattery residue off of the surface).

eEQDDNV.jpg

Interesting isn't it!? I honestly cannot say what is what at this stage, this is 300x magnification btw. I will do some prodding and playing to see if I can deduce what some elements of what we see her are. The orange-greenish colored parts are allegedly pigment, not something that can be taken off the slick wrap.

Curious!

oh shit this thread moves fast!

i skimmed over the last 3 pages, who had questions about the waterfall tech? i can help some with that.

awesome awesome awesome press @2clicker

sweet set up @Monsoon! but i wish you'd avoid coil powered blocks if you're gonna spend money on a electronically controlled set. they're half baked engineering imvho. doomed to heat unevenly and eventually fail....

@herbivore21 i totally agree on the screens. i use unbleached paper tea bags and they are excellent. coffee filters work too.

@AmsterDAB16
ime my flower and trim rosin is more terpy and lighter in color than the bubble hash rosin i've pressed. there's little chance of avoiding terpene loss to the water wash--some terps are water soluble, that's why the water smells so damn good! there are strains that are exceptions to this rule. they have more non-polar terpenes. they make the best water hash!

i wont argue that it's much more satisfying to get back 50--80% per squish tho :D

@BoogerMan the BEST best thing is when that friend is a die hard BHO head and they're fully converted by the time they leave your house!

I think they'll do the job okay, I didn't feel like waiting for a better solution and it's something I can replace on my own if it does break without worrying if the company still exists. I figure I might end up upgrading in a year or so when there are more developed presses on the market too so it just needs to make do for now. If there's any uneven heating with these, I'll post here to let people know.

Keeping the plates touching during heat up may help with even heat distribution?

Seems to help with my plates, as well as making sure both plates are the same temp. Equilibrium and such :science:

They posted a chart for my plates to use as a guide, I'll have to test different configs to see what works best. Each plate has 2 flat coils each so I think that should help things out a bit.

Interesting. I wonder why the bottom plate requires more heat? Is it thicker/different shape? I thought they were the exact same.
There's no insulator on either one so I'm guessing it's because the the frame plate acts as a giant heatsink.

BIG EDIT: There's an update on the new magical D-Nail parchment alternative from Facebook. Brian from D-Nail says that these sheets are very similar to what they'll be releasing in the near future. Basically PTFE release sheets for the Electrolux HSG Panini Grill, which makes complete sense if you think about it. Not sure how the official ones will be different but he says he's been using the linked ones and they work great. They seem to be out of stock there but probably can't be too hard to find similar ones elsewhere.

Thoughts? @BoogerMan @herbivore21 @Joel W.

Shall we call this panini tek? I feel like someone needs to try pressing Rosin on their George Foreman grill now. For all we know, it could be the holy grail of cheap press equipment.

Disclamer: I was fully medicated from Rosin when posting this!
