Discontinued The Grasshopper

Yes, I'm not saying it's not a concern, but I don't think it's as big a deal as a lot of people are making it out to be. I think they're doing about as well as could be expected, making slow but steady improvements

My replacement body is still going strong. It got a lot of varied usage Thanksgiving week, from sneaking single hits at the bar to using it for sessions with a group of friends. Everyone loved it, and everyone got ripped. It's amazing how efficient it is.

Does the new one get hot, back or front? This one is going back. It gets so hot on both ends plus is now acting very oddly when turning the device on. It rarely works properly on the first try anymore. Started out nicely, took about a week to develop (what seems like) every problem listed so far. To add, the power button feels like it's gonna go any click now. Pulling the charger on and off it so frequently prob doesn't help.

Oh well. My buddy said they got back to him today, he emailed them last Wed. But it does kick ass when working, agreed.

Edit to add- that's good to hear yours is going well.

Mine gets hot just above the intake holes, where the heater is. But that's to be expected and I don't think that's a flaw. My backend does not get hot.

One thing that may help keep my backend working is that I have only used the GH charger maybe two or three times when I first got it. Since I got an external charger (XTAR VP2), I just throw the batteries in that when they need to be charged, which prevents wear and tear on the backend.

I just did my first clean of the frontend since I got it, as I noticed today that there was some resistance when turning it on the threads. I poured in some ISO until it was 2/3 of the way full (the mouthpiece, that is. Not the body.), shook it up, then wiped it dry with a paper towel. Afterwards, I played with it for like 10 minutes, just rotating it on and off the threads. It's so smooth. I had never realized that threading could be this precise and this frictionless.

My hopper only lasts a single bowl, temp stepping over 6-8 draws, and I've got back end heat issues, so it's going back tomorrow. Been lagging on the return cause that one bowl is awesome, which leads to a question for others w/ hopper experience:

My context is not a high-powered lineup, I have an MFLB, a FM Mini, and a Vapor Bros analog destop unit. They work, I've been vaping exclusively since last year. My issue w/ my portables is I don't like sessioning, I want quick results. MFLB - takes me 15min+. FM Mini - takes me ~8min. My hopper takes <2min (w/ the least amount of material compared to the other two) AND hit's me harder, I'm guessing because the power of the heater for quick extraction, leading to a much quicker perspective shift. It's the effect I've been missing from my portables all year, and a couple notches above my inexpensive desktop. For those of you w/ hoppers and other, presumably better vapes - how unique is this to the Grasshopper? What other devices (especially portables) offer <2min extraction? I don't want to go back to sessioning!

The ESV is great. Instant vapor, pure convection, great taste, built like a tank, perfect customer care, easily pocketable... Hits hard, fast and reliably

Firefly is a quick convection vape too, but it's tough to master. I call it finicky. And it does require stirring. This vape has had its production issues too; I'm on my 3rd. But when you get everything right, you can't beat its flavor.

Having said all that, I rarely use my ff anymore.

I love hearing this theme of how much higher folks are feeling with this vaporizer..... I'm also contributing this feat to the very powerful heater technology....

I feel in order to acquire similar buzz quality/level we need to more closely mimick the combustion method of vaporizing.... which is to say "fast heat" something this vaporizer's heater system is very capable of delivering..... and BEST of all is it's ability to maintain or keep up with a flood of fresh cooler air entering...

I want one so badly..... I just want to see some signs that they truly have ironed out there issues.....

They seem to be the opposite of my Inhalater team.... these guys are stead fast... trying NOT to change anything... design wise I mean..... what if the real answer is to move to a different switch method for example.... I worry that they might be maybe a little too rigid..... unwilling to make the true correction because that would mean retrofitting everyone that already have units in hand....

I've heard the same kind of things with any number of vapes on here, and Reddit. People with Crafty's, Mighty's, Firefly's, Davinci's. 3, 4, 5 plus units, returned and returned again

Warranty claims: OG Pax 2, Firefly, 3, Grasshopper 3. Of course the firefly is DOUBLE the money, and way more than 2 years after launch, and one my batteries just stopped working, probably from total lack of usage so I'm gonna let that slide. Also my brand new Apple TV has tons of bugs, I haven't had to "send it in" ... yet but just a bit of perspective on product launch. Or for those familiar with the GH panic death spiral, my obligatory every 10th page comparison to larger more established companies and Apple so people calm down. A little perspective on a crowd funded company might help.

My replacement body is still going strong. It got a lot of varied usage Thanksgiving week, from sneaking single hits at the bar to using it for sessions with a group of friends. Everyone loved it, and everyone got ripped. It's amazing how efficient it is.

Of course easy for me to say since I also have had a GH that works flawlessly since September under heavy and all day usage. I kinda wish it would break as I scratched my up changing batteries all the time (because(if I use it ALOT although battery life is my biggest criticism)

I tried my Firefly again a few days ago after months. It's "worth" the effort but I almost never put it in because GH is on par, arguably better at some temps with none of the learning curve or hassle.

Just buy one, alternatively if you live with another vaporist, anticpating a problem you'll actually have in that context, buy 2. The warranty (if/when) you need it is awesome and there is no other device like this!

Got my Ti GH on 11/25 w/ 3 batts -- enjoyed all weekend with no issues. Last night started to charged batts up for the day and had the following happen.

- one charged, one did nothing (no lights, no charge), one exploded in the GH leaving a nasty stench and residue in batt chamber.

Now GH is bricked. Sent email to GH. No Fucking Bueno!

That's fucking crazy!!! Was that with the gh charger or a different charger?

That's a downer texasvape, hope they sort you out quick :(.
Does the gh have protection from incorrect battery insertion?

(please note that I'm definitely NOT trying to say Tex is at fault here, just wondering as my pre-order feels like more and more like a roll of the dice) the absence or protecrion would swing me over into 'please refund me' territory.
Not because I can't get it right, just because IMO it would be a basic requirement for devices using a powerful battery.

Now I'm wondering if it makes sense to only charge batteries in an external charger.

I think there are two things GH should explain to us. First what battery protection circuitry is in place, short circuit, reverse battery, charging, etc. And second who makes these batteries and what are their specs. If they are getting it from some Chinese company then that Chinese comapany are probably buying C and D batteries from the big battery companies like Samsung, Panasonic, etc. The fact is when you are dealing with Lithium and high amps you need quality batteries that you can gaurantee are within spec. The battery venting in the GH should scare everybody. Should just not happen. There should be circuit protection for that.

I still think there is a battery contact issue going on that is possibly creating arcing and the rear end heating up. It is going from being a troublesome issue with all these issues to being very worried. That could easily have started a fire.

as someone who had missed the original campaign by days, and is among the earliest of pre orders, I have endured all of the chaos this product and company has provided. The percentage of failures is still somewhat disappointing , however, I've never lost my excitement or anticipation for the GH.
Exploding batteries is a different story... I hope this is a singular event.

Is one exploding battery out of lets say 100 hoppers ok? Id like some serious feedback from fc members that have a solid understanding of batteries in electronics or specifically vaporizers.

I just emailed ghl about the exploding battery too, and asked them to comment on it in their next update email.

I have been an ecig vaper for years so extremely experienced with these types of batteries. With mechanical mods (no electronics) there was no protection. The vaper needed to understand ohms law and how much amperage the coil you built would draw and your batteries specs. And yes with mechanical mods there were the odd battery venting, but in most cases it was either user error or crappy batteries that did not meet up to spec. With most regulated mods these days with protection circuits built in it is very rare.

The big issue I believe is with the GH getting hot in the back end. That should just not happen at all and as far as I'm concerned extremeley dangerous since there is no circuitry there, just the battery. So the battery must be heating up which is no way good.

what IS the percentage, though? out of probably close to 2000 units shipped now, how many have we seen fail? maybe 70 (and i feel that's being pretty liberal). so that's about a 3% failure rate, maybe.
