Wrong. The "hairs" are pistils, the their function is to stay out of the calyxes and hopefully catch male cannabis pollen particles that may float by. Once they get stuck on and the pistils send their chemical signals, they retract into the calyxes with the pollen and begin to produce seeds. She will always have pistils sticking out because she is a girl and she wants to be a mom! We just happen to take all the painstaking steps of making sure she stays virgin for us ;)
Right. But If the genetic is very hairy and very horny doesn't that mean that energy that could be going into building more medicine is now divesting itself to growing hairs ? Everytime I've gotten really hairy bud it's really bad

The potency you are describing, is built up mainly by the calyx of the cannabis plant. This is where the majority of the plants resin/most mature trichome heads will be located.

Each individual calyx has a pistil, as @Quetzalcoatl describes. As the calyx matures, the pistil will go from a more vibrant, almost spiky white color, to a softer texture that begins to turn orange. When the calyx is mature, the pistil will likely have darkened further to a red color and might even fall off or recede back into the calyx at peak maturity.

There is no reason why a particularly hairy bud would be less potent. What you are likely noticing however, is a bud that was harvested a touch pre-maturely, as these tend to hold onto their pistils a lot more tenaciously, and so are that much more visible when it comes to bag appeal. This is by no means universal of course. Some strains like to hang onto their pistils and are still quite awesome. Blowfish, Blue Dream and Cherry Slider are some good genetics which tend to do this imo.

Overall, what you are looking for is calyx 2 leaf ratio in a bud, how dense are the calyxes, and how trichome covered. That is generally what will dictate potency in my experience. After that, it comes down to the tactile experience. How does it smell when you open the jar? How does it taste? Was it smooth or harsh? Is the high racy, and in your head, or is it melting and in the depths of your body? There are so many shades of quality to choose from, and the number of pistils in your bag is not what you wanna go by.

Thank you so much for that breakdown! Good Nugs are very hard to come by around here and when I do it's pretty expensive. The stuff I isually get is hairy and fluffy and often at times has milky trichs( which also indicate lack of potency I think) so the main two indicators for me and my rule of thumb is too look at the hairs and the trichs.

Milky trichs are peak thc potency, amber is the beginning of thc breakdown. I wouldn't worry about fluffy or hairy nugs, as long as there is good medicine.

Some jack herer, the pine smell is insane on this. Uplifting but not overly energetic which I like since I'm an Indica user.

Tonight is this round's Tahoe OG. The chem d and strawberry kush were also dense, but this one was especially so.

Then just a couple frost shots. Can't get up microscope close, but I figured out the better lighting bit :)

Really getting a lot of fruit punch taste coming across this time. So damn tasty, almost can't put it down once I get going!

Lastly will be the Strawberry Kush, maybe another week or two.

My collective had a new batch of Gorilla Glue. :ninja: I always like to try same strains from different growers for comparison. Flavor was off the charts, long lasting effects as well. Frosted up and not over trimmed.
..........................................................................
What's the flavor like? Just like glue ----hope not ?
It's on my wish list for next trip to CO.

Frosty it is and not over trimmed :)

No glue taste thankfully, but I can detect bits of gorilla.

It has an earthy, diesel-like taste initially with a pleasantly sweet caramel flavor that follows.

My first thought was salted caramel popcorn. A must try if you see it.

Here's a nice close up of the flowers I make my full melt and rosin from (these ones are dried, but not yet cured like others I have). My first chance getting to play with the digital microscope and flower. I really need to work on getting the material all the same distance away from the lens so as to get everything in focus in future shots!

Still, these are lovely cloudy/clear headies! No wonder it gives such a buzz :D Still, these heads are being taken off the stalks before I vape them. Life's too short to inhale inactive/unwanted plant material degradation byproducts!

Pay no mind to those voices in my head
Just purchased some ChemFire, supposed to be a strong indica. I cannot find it on Leafly -- anyone tried it?

Likely is a cross between a Chemdog and a Fire OG, but I never tried it and I don't know. That's just what people typically do in these mish-mash situations.

A taste on the tongue
Had an oz of a new one on me called 'the high' by the 'weed seeds company' not the easiest 2 search terms.

All I could find out is its Super Silver Haze x unknown haze

smell wise it's a bit mixed sweet and spicey with the odd tropical overtone.

Doesn't taste too hazy and the effects are good not at all buzzy. A long high and you can get quite happy trippy high in larger doses.

Anyone else ever come across it?
