Discontinued herbalAire

lazylathe

Almost there...
Can't wait for my Elite to arrive!!
I seem to be only able to have one session with my HA 2.1 and then it has to cool for 30 minutes...
Not even used at max temp either, only at 365 for the whole session.

Towards the end the light changes from Amber to solid red and stays that way until cooled off.
I suppose it is a new unit but it is already very old, maybe that is the problem.

Oh well it will be a great backup just in case!

Hehe, lazy Come down Sunday's in general I mean!

 I hear you, mate! My Herbalaire was running all day on Sunday. A Tame Impala gig on the Saturday accompanied with a little bit of a psychedelic journey left me very lazy on the Sunday. I only had a pretty heavy sativa though (Sour Diesel) so it kind of kept me tripping.

I still can't get over how good this vape is. Once that flower is held stationary near the jets, it's time to go to flavour town, a place high in the clouds.

Exactly, if I'm in my usual state I prefer the grinding, packing changing ritual of something like a solo or the VM. When I can hardly function i prefer to just jam a heap of nugs into this tank. Can literally lift it via the power cord, sits perfectly on an arm rest and if you start off on low temp a bowl can go on for a long time!

I've been experimenting with ground versus unground. I like the idea of keeping the flowers whole and not knocking off trichomes, but I get thicker hits and bigger clouds with a grind. Also, whilst the HA does a fantastic job of extracting a whole nug, I've noticed that I can still get more out of it if I grind it up, even if it looks fully vaped inside and out. A fair bit more actually. A grinder that collects kief may bring the best of both worlds.

I've gotten to the point where I can use my HA like I would a bong and with the water tool, it even feels the same. Just not as nasty!

Yea only problem I have is the tong clogs so easily if I grind, but I just add a screen. HA is a good Vape for those who still combust, it's so simple, and when used with a bong it makes a lot of sense to bong smokers, Compared to the idea of a whip or a bag.

I have found that not grinding will make it last long but will not give as big hits. When not so impaired i do love to grind with the HA, but the ability to vape nugs is nice. Sometimes when I'm really feeling lazy, I'll put in maybe .4 then when it's done load fresh nugs on top:/ haha.... Oh well, it still works! Torture testing if you will.

Oh man, you guys are killing me... hoping for the arrival of HA today (fingers crossed) otherwise it will be tomorrow at the latest! So from what i'm reading, a finer grind isn't ideal for the HA with the tong? I have a grinder that I love, but it's a very coarse "shred" and works great, but doesn't give as much clouds as a finer grind depending on the buds. Sounds like this coarser grind is ideal with the tong? Any other tips for starting out?

Just want my first experience to be a good one! First impressions are everything with me! I NEED to REPLACE my SOLO and the HA i'm hoping is it!

My take on it is a grind is not "needed" I prefer it. If you wanna grind I think the usual laws apply. If you don't have a screen to cover the built in TONG screen, I think a course kind should be a great compromise. I will say, I found it likes to be loaded more from the factory compared to the solo. .2 is my usual solo max load and .2 is around my "usual" HA minimum. HA will work, and will work well with smaller loads just needs a little work (this thread is full of awesome ideas, I'm thinking of doing some cut crucibles myself and donned screens work great).
through water I don't see why it shouldn't replace the solo at home for you. Although I'm thinking of getting my solo back, and getting a GONG again because I always thought it looked cool hanging off the end of a bong.

Yo T! .2 in the HA will be fine (I find that amount alot of the Solo!), but if I could get the HA to do .1g that would be ideal for me (don't need .05g). I wonder if the PV GonG would change that, especially the "shorty" version. I was going to play with the HA first just with the TonG and see if I wanna keep the vape long term, and if I dig it i'll pickup the shorty gong.

Not sure if i'll be adding a screen to the TonG but I assume I will because I hate material getting into my water tool. What size screen does it use? Like a Solo screen?

Yeah, but wouldn't it be too small and thus loose? I figured there wouldn't be enough of a seal?

It fits a little loosely but works well in my experience. Others may offer more, I always hold the HA with water and always wished the solo stems fitted a little tighter, but it doesn't seem to matter too much. Direct draw with a solo stem is nice and allows smaller loads, HA with a solo stem through water I have also always liked.

When I do use ground putting one of those ceramic disks on top keeps the mp/tong screen from getting clogged for me. Resin still forms a little, but not a much and no material get's stuck to it. The holes are a little big so super fine might still get through.

I'm finding those ceramic screens/discs handy to have around.

The TonG comes with its own screen. It isn't super fine, so a course grind will probably work best to keep particles out of your water tool. I get very big hits all the time off of .1g, I think I could even get good results with a little less when ground up. Are you getting the Elite?

I agree. They even helped me cut down my crucible!

Where can I purchase these?

You got it, i'm hoping for it to be here tomorrow! So with .1g you're getting big hits just using a coarse grind in the TonG stock? Or are you using a disc spacer?

I've got my coarsely ground .1g packed just tight enough to create an even spread over the bottom screen in the crucible in the shape of a little puck, with another screen wedged in on top to hold the material secure and against the hot air jets. This way, no material will shift about even if drawn on heavily and it can be inverted without worrying about your material falling away from the jets.

As you've got the Elite, with the perfectly sized and removable crucible, I would suggest that you find another screen that will fit tightly in on top of your material. I have the HA 2.2, so I had to cut my crucible down to fit in snug with the TonG and I use the screen from a backup crucible to hold the material secure (I'm guessing the elite crucibles can have their screens removed too but I'm not 100% sure).

Using this method, I don't use the ceramic discs anymore.

Also if you're interested in cut down crucibles you should email them. I asked for regular and concentrate ones cut down and they did it for me.

I might actually order some of the newer glass bead concentrate crucibles not cut down. I like putting a layer of flower in and then some wax on top and the cut down ones are a little short for that.

Edit: @LeafyGreens the crucible screens are movable. I think it was @421 that was saying he flips it, pushes the screen down, loads on top of that, then holds the ha upside down to put the crucible in. That way it stays pressed up against the jet's when it's upside down. It's funny, I've had it for 6 years and had no idea those screens moved.

Yup, I borrowed a lot of tips from @421. That sounds like a handy method too, and no extra parts are needed either! I was just not sure if the HA Elite crucibles may have the screens built into them and may not be movable /removable like the HA 2.2 crucibles are.

You have a point in that the crucible design might have changed over the years. They might not all be movable, I've never tried moving mine. I run a hose from my ha to my bubbler so I don't invert my ha.

So is there anyway to get into "calibration mode" with the ha2.2? Apparently with the Elite, you can press all the buttons at the same time, and it gives you the ability to jack the temp from a max of 200c, to 210c? Just curious, as i'd like to pickup a 2.2 if I like my Elite, but that 10c could make a big difference.
