Discontinued VapeXhale Cloud EVO

It's an obsession but it's pleasin'
I received a response today from Jeff regarding my defective EVO:

"So sorry to hear about the other issues. Ok, it seems you have a faulty rocker switch. It must have come undone on the inside in shipment. For the time being, it works well, heats up, and produces vapor, yeah? The other issue with the baskets, seems to actually be caused by the bamboo. We just discovered that the latest batch of bamboos supplied to us were off spec by 5,000th of an inch making it smaller and causing the baskets to not fit as well as they normally do. We are experiencing overwhelming demand right now and so hopefully we can get you a replacement EVO sent right away."

I wish taking care of existing customers didn't depend on whether there was overwhelming demand or not. I asked Jeff if he would overnight my replacement EVO since the replacement hydratube he sent me is taking 11 days to slowly make its way to me. We'll see what happens.

Edit:

I just heard back from Jeff at VXL.

"We apologize but we won't be able to send it overnight. As soon as you receive the new unit and it works well, we will provide you with a prepaid shipping label to send the defective unit back with."

So apparently even if VXL sends you broken glass and a defective unit they'll take their sweet time making it right.

In search of the best terps and smoothest vapor
I try to push it in further and it doesn't really feel like there is more room to force it in, but maybe that's because I was worried about damaging the device and I didn't push hard enough. I'm on a tbreak right now and I've basically locked the EVO away so I don't get the urge to use it, but next time I plug it in I'll definitely see if there's more room that I've somehow missed. My cord definitely does not fit snugly though, I don't think.
Definitely try some force when you're back. The first couple times mine fell out too. I thought I was going to break it to get the cord in all the way, so the last bit is really tight.

Awesome! Thanks for the advice :) (and to everyone else who responded as well!) Once my EVO is free from lockdown I'll definitely give it another shot.

Bought a sidetree give thanks bundle. Sidetree is defective, leaks to bottom chamber with even a drop of water, and the elbs were super tight. Emailed support, they are sending me a new sidetree. As for the elb's I just found out (like 5min ago) that you can make the elbs perfect by inserting into a 14mm male joint with the cap removed, do this twice. Then place the cap top down on a table and press ever so slightly with your pinky to slightly "dent" it. Cap will fit snug, and elb with be free flowing. Peace

Sorry to hear about another QC issue. I think the ELB issue might be because you ended up with one of the units like mine that was off spec.

Jeff from VXL told me:

"We just discovered that the latest batch of bamboos supplied to us were off spec by 5,000th of an inch making it smaller and causing the baskets to not fit as well as they normally do."

VXL is sending me a new unit that should fit the ELBs correctly.

Ya he told me about the 5000th of an inch defect. My unit works perfectly aside from this, and honestly after "fixing" my elbs with the 14mm trick, its a none issue now. But I totally understand wanting a new unit. I'm into collectable card games (netrunner), and when there is a misprint (https://i.imgur.com/3UkcDrX.jpg), the card holds more value. In a way this makes my evo unique.

I am more than puzzled by the returns I am hearing about since these sales started. I expect a quality vape company to run a test on their still premium priced product ($399 is not cheap guys) before sending it out the first time. I hope my elbs fit and my glass works, but I am now half certain I will have to return them even before they arrive. I was so looking forward to this, but it seems (and I hate to say this about what I've been told many times is a great company) like it's a way to pass off normally unusable stock in the guise of a sale.

When all it would take is a simple elb placement and one quick fill of the Hyrdrotube, I feel a bit miffed about the lack of quality control.

I hope to be proved wrong with a vaporizer package that works great out of the box, but we all deserved that. My BIG question is why bother sending out something that somebody is going to just send back? Why not take 3 min on a simple test? I am not trying to make any kind of false accusations here, but when this is happening so often I get suspicious. I think the lack of urgency in getting people replacements isn't cool either, especially when simple quality control would save everyone time, trouble, and money.

Even if there is nothing malicious in their intent, I still expect my vape to be examined for quality before it leaves the factory. This isn't being done and high volume sales are no excuse. People are waiting far longer for replacements in the long run, I'm sure we would all be fine waiting a day or two longer for them to implement stricter quality control. None of this means the EVO is a bad vape, I just am shocked by their attitude to their customers. Again it goes against all I've heard about them until the sale.

I wrote 14mm when I meant 18mm, sorry about that..14 would be a little tight.

Previously I've never heard of a faulty VXL Hydratube and now there are multiple "leakers" and ELBs that don't fit.
From now forward, VXL certainly needs to water test every HT and try ELBs and check on/off switches.
If they don't, knowing the current problems, then shame on them.

@Klorox - I don't think your unit will be more valuable due to its differences, since the biggest difference, the bamboo error, will effect the performance. Realize that if you don't get it fixed, you will be fucking with elb's for the life of the unit since they will never fit out of the gate. I could see someone liking the individual feel of the knob being off, but the bamboo being too narrow is a real problem.

EDIT: I have voiced my concern over the latest batch of problems (knobs, HT's and bamboo) to vxl. I have been told they are growing and are bringing new people up to speed, which may be contributing to the problems. Now, I know that as customers that doesn't fix anything, but I thought you guys might like to know what is going on. If any of you have other issues or concerns that should be looked into, feel free to pm me about them and I will pass them along.

the bamboo error, will effect the performance

I did not mean to insinuate that my unit is worth a greater amount of money, just that it is different which makes it unique to me on a personal level. In any case you do have me worried about performance. So far I have not really seen any problem with producing "clouds" and such. Fixing my elbs took all of 30secs to do 6, and they fit perfect now, so doing that in the future won't really bother me.

However, do you really think I am getting less vapor due to a fractionally smaller diameter? I have nothing to compare it too so I really have no clue. I don't want to rma unless it is really a problem. Jeff didn't seem to think so, or at least he did not make it apparent in his initial response. To quote jeff: "If it's not too much trouble we will have to deal with the baskets fitting more snug-like." Which I have no issue with..as long as "performance" is not hurt.

On a side note, how many units have this defect..how many people won't even notice? The only reason I found out was due to my sidetree being bad. I just figured thats how the elbs fit.

I don't think you will have a performance issue at all...I didn't mean to imply that. But I do think you will find it a pain in the ass to always have to reconfigure any elb's you purchase in the future.

Anyone have any tips on how to get the best flavor out of my evo using concentrates. I have been able to get really good clouds but to be honest the flavor is quite gross and not what I was expecting, I have to believe this is due to user error and/or lack of technique. Any help would be appreciated Thanks!

make sure everything is clean. make sure your concentrate tastes good! (I have one supplier that gives me the nastiest tasting shit, but it is strong!) After all that has been confirmed, turn the temp down more if you don't like the taste until you get where you like it.

Ok cool. Your probably right, I'll wait until we get through the holiday season and they get their staff trained/manufacturing kinks worked out, that should give me enough time to formulate a more well rounded opinion. If it annoys me I'll send it back. Thanks for all your help, happy thanksgiving.

The key for me (aside from good-tasting concentrates to start with and clean VXNs, like Sticks said) has been avoiding the end of the hit by clearing the tube when the vapor starts to thin in the chamber. Dab sizing comes into play here as well since you want to be able to take the hit all at once. This has allowed me to avoid the burnt tasting vapor at the tail end of each rip.

Yep clean nails and keep the temp low. I run concentrates around 10 o'clock.

I also draw slower with concentrates so I don't waste it all getting sucked up the nail.

I found this video by @Enchantre to be extremely helpful:

http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/vapexhale-cloud-evo.11357/page-206#post-627174

I like the low-temp approach as it conserves flavor. I find you don't need to heat soak the EVO first for this technique. So, it's a quick way to get a dab from a cold EVO. Turn it on, set it to noon, when it goes green, it should be ready. Place your nail in the unit and watch the material melt. I wait another 3-5 seconds and start a very light pull. There should be instant whitewalls. If not, wail a bit longer. Then, draw slow and steady until the vapor tapers off. Clear your tube, and turn it up to max to burn off residue.

Also, her tip to turn the unit off when the light goes red is a good one. Don't want to burn that dab.

@KimDracula 's point is big, as well. You almost have to forget what you now, because hitting it is a little different. Pull too strong and it climbs the walls instead of vaping. Put too much in, and you will need to take two hits to finish it and the second one will taste lame. Put too little in and you hit is small and you take in all the bad stuff at the end.

as far as boro and quartz nails go, what are the main differences? I see quartz already being tougher overall, easier to clean.... do the nails ever get gnarly like a banger and eventually have to be replaced? or does simple iso make it look like new? do they preform different? thanks :)

The Quartz nails sit slightly deeper in the bamboo and are just a hair bigger round. I think they taste better too.

You know, while it still is unfortunate that some people got defective units, I got mine today and it is absolutely perfect. It is simply a wonderful vaporizer and I am very pleased with my purchase. Tried a few really smooth dry puffs and then used my hydrocirc which is not unlike the simple showerhead designs I prefer.

Though a contact, I also was able to find out that this sale certainly was not a scam in the least. There were some quality control issues I was assured will be resolved now. If my unit is anything to go by, they have been. Mine came with a Grav Lab piece which was a surprise but not an unhappy one. I like my other Grav Lab Bubbler very much as it's one of their domestic pieces as I assume this one also is. Anyway it doesn't leak at all, and the elbs fit perfectly. I'll try some concentrate later and report back on it! I hope all is now well in EVO world and we can enjoy this super Vape.
