EDIT: Size of the ring: CS diameter is a little over 1/8", ill call it 3/16". Inner Diameter is 3/8"

OK, thanks. In IDs that small that's thicker cord than most of the ones I have, but I've got a couple of -012s (3/8 ID 1/2 OD) if that would help? PM me your name and address and I'll mail you one?

I've got one more stash to check, but am not that optimistic.

Just thought I'd drop a few thoughts on the concentrate screens.

pros:
Can hold a lot of oil and you can pre load them.
Easy to clean
Fit was perfect in my coil (I know others have had quarms) and if you remove the screen before it's easy to push out
Can stretch your dabs into two +hits (2-5 for a 5mm sphere ime)
Cheap

Cons
Taste tapers off very quickly I get all the flavour in the first hit then the taste is more like good reclaim for the next 2-3. Like The taste you get from the mflb oil trays.
Too hot with the coil native. Need a stem or something.

All in all, for $2:50 they're win ime. Although more of once in a while thing, I personally couldn't see myself using it daily.

If thats the name of the size, "-012s" then i think ill just order a few- but thank you very much for the offer!

Edit: And yes, i pulled the trigger today on the bronze sherlock. High hopes that it will be easier to clean and a lot smoother! After remembering that a few of my friends have been combusting out of bronze, i figured I'd rather have that than aluminum. Also hope it gets here in time for the Holiday.

Any metal taste? Also wouldn't mind hearing some opinions on the bronze sherlock from other VG users.

Something I've noticed after some experimenting at the glass shop. The coil, as previously noted, drops into both 14mm and 18mm joints. Now this is true of the American made 14mm joints, but not the batch of Chinese 14mm joints we have at the moment.

Also the inside bit if the coil stem if potruding at the mouthpiece does kind of fit 10mm too, which is very cool, although it's not practical in real use it's nice that it does fit. I wonder how intentional the GG fitting was in the design of the coil?

That's fun. You'd expect it was a standard size fitting. Maybe 14mm is a different size in China, I hear they're on the metric system? Mine fits my Chinese WT fine, but thanks for the warning.

I can't be sure about VG making sure their unit fit standard WTs, but I strongly suspect it wasn't an accident any more than Herbal Aire doing the same thing. Now with Cera (which does the same thing) I can say for sure it's intentional......I was there when it happened.

Some makers think ahead and incorporate for free, some want to sell you an adapter after the fact and some miss the opportunity clean. Part of the fun in a Capitalistic Market I guess. Love it personally.

Well, phenomenal customer service from Vapor Genie! Major props to Alec for helping me out a little bit!

Ended up putting my states abbreviation in a wrong spot, it probably wouldn't have fucked up shipping unless someone at shipping was too fried to put 2+2 together- but Alec changed my address no problem, and even made sure I got the top I wanted for my bronze sherlock- Wavy Teak! :D

From the time i submitted the ticket on a sunday evening, it took me 10 minutes to recieve the "We got your email, we're looking at it" confirmation and the following morning I had two emails waiting: We solved your problem and it has been shipped on time!

Small, small issue. But it bugged the living crap out of my add/ocd and I wanted to ensure the primo-shipping I payed for makes it here before turkey day- and oh, look! A text expecting a package tomorrow from shipping!!!

Happy Holidays everyone, and thanks a bunch to VaporGenie & Alec!

EDIT: Will arrive tomorrow. Will be sure to do a review!!!!!

I've been using my hc top with the bronze piece from the hardware store with my 14 mm downstem on my bong with a torch and it works but I know it isn't fitting as snug as it should because of the threads which makes the vapor path not air right which makes it harder to get a hit. It feels like I'm getting a lot more air than vapor and when I do get it to fill up, it's because it got too hot and combusted so it fills up with thick harsh smoke instead of smooth tastey vapor. I ended up saying fuck it and orded myself a coil to go with my bong. Hopefully this will remedy my problem since the coil is supposed to be a lot harder to combust with. I was going to post pics of my setup but I got too stoned and got lazy but I'll post some once my new coil comes in. I'm probably gonna want to go ahead and get a j hook as well to make my own cheaper version of the glass sherlock since I found some at a local smokeshop for 15 bucks!

I'm having trouble visualizing this, but if I catch the issue sounds like you're in the market for 'PTFE Plumber's tape' You want the thin white teflon that comes on rolls without adhesive. Half inch is the typical width. There's another kind of Plumber's tape, obviously wrong, that's a metal strip with holes down the middle used to hang pipes.

Anyway, Teflon is fine for the heats we're running. You can build up thickness easily. For instance twist 6 or 8 strips a foot long together into a 'string'. It's very soft and seals very well (which is why Plumbers love the stuff).

Easy way to make a home brew gasket, play with it some you'll see.

Good luck.

Thanks bro! Good idea! I don't know why I didn't think of it myself. That sounds like it would work for now until my coil arrives,if it doesn't effect the taste.

I think I may have something to do with the wall thickness of the joints. Our American gongs are heavy wall and our Chinese are medium wall. E medium wall seems as though the taper is slightly longer and ends slightly too narrow for the coil.

Anyway, vape on.

This is why I love FC ! Great stoner minds uniting on some voltron/MacGyver shit! I found some plumbers tape and it works great I guess I'll be going to get a 14 mm j hook tomorrow now that I got thatb bitch nice and snug it should doh just fine . I like the bong for cooling the vapor but I keep going back to hitting my good ole walnut hc in regular mode because the water filters out a lot of that good flavor and even though it burns a little it's way more flavorful ,so yeah it would be dope to put it on a j hook n see how it tastes.

Sounds good man I'll be looking forward to it! I'm thinking about ordering a bronze sherlock bottom piece for mine as well since it's only 60$ I might as well add it to my collection.

Gotta love VG customer support!

Here's the 10% off code: FCVG10

It would not surprise me at all, the poor driver probably doesn't know that one of the streets connected to my homestead does not exist, contrary to what modern gps apps/maps say.

Its officially 3 hours overdue, I take it i can contact the infinite supply of USPS answering robots for my overnight refund at this rate. I imagine they stop driving around this hour anyhow.

Again, don't forget that 10% code I listed guys! 10% off your next vapor genie purchase!

Yeah, i despise double posting, but i cannot edit my previous post anymore and feel like some people may be waiting for me to review the Bronze Sherlock VG I ordered. So here's what's going down right now:

Ordered directly from the VG website, they even accepted my request for the "Wavy Teak" top and changed a minor thing before shipping. Top notch customer service, even created that 10% off code for FC members after I asked if they had one for reviewers on our little forum. C'mon, how cool is that?

 Now, here's what sucks:

I ordered with "USPS Priority Mail Express 1-Day" shipping, and payed some extra to get my new Sherlock here before Turkey Day, which was the whole reason I did overnight. I placed the order on 11-22-15, it was shipped the next day right away by VaporGenie- Out of their hands, and into the postal system.

USPS fucked up big time. I have made 6 calls since the 24th (After my "guaranteed" arrival time), I have NOT received ANY updates in two day on both text message alerts and the basic website tracker.

My 6 (I almost want to say 7) calls where even worse. I was given the run around, transfered to a new person at random and without any warning, put on hold without warning, and even DIRECTLY LIED TO by the USPS staff members. :bang:

VaporGenie even called them on my behalf because I was getting the run around, and after I shot out my email to VaporGenie support, I noticed that I already had an email in my inbox from 2 hours ago that literally said: "USPS certainly screwed up! Let me know when you receive the order and I will refund you for the shipping.

Alec | Customer Care
VaporGenie"

After calling my local USPS, sifting through the automated machine designed to keep you from talking to a human being and everything that touches the package in between the verdict is this:No one knows where it is.

Somewhere between Virginia and my state is all I could squeak out of the final customer service representative, who also informed me that the last two (Who had transferred me to god knows how many departments) customer service representatives had "Bullshitted" me. An older lady told me I was bullshitted. Twice.

I've used USPS a LOT. I normally don't get overnight services with them and tend to stick to their normal "Priority Mail" or "First Class", and they have never been more than a day late, and have always updated their tracking system.

This may just be the most asinine experience I've ever had with any company ever ,only because I was bullshitted at least twice. So much for a turkey day with my new Sherlock, and I expect even further delays with the Black Friday coming up.

End rage at USPS. Glad VaporGenie at least has my back through all this bullcrap. I couldn't even be given a time frame that the package COULD arrive in, so I'll let you all know when I get my Bronze Sherlock. I just don't know when it will get here, and neither does USPS. :mental:

Patience. :myday:

Damn dude that sucks I'm sorry to hear that they did the same shit to me a while back when I ordered a flowermate 5.0 from eBay . I just got my coil in today though ! So I gotta be happy for me:cool::sherlock: But I'm still disappointed:disgust: to hear of your bad luck. I started to take a hit without the bong but didn't really feel comfortable pointing my torch at my face like that so I stopped and just hit it with the bong for now. It's a lot safer that way lol . As far as how good it works, it's fuckin dope! It tastes so much better than the bronze hardware bowl and gives a much better hit! I've been even going in a lil closer with the torch flame since the heat exchanger seems deeper than my hc and I still haven't had the problem of combusting with it! So was it worth the 35$ ? Fuckin right it was! I recommend it to anyone with a bong definitely

Its not all bad luck. Alec from VaporGenie has been SO helpful throughout this chaotic bullshit that I don't know how I would have done it without him, he is even taking care of my overnight shipping refund for me. Seriously nice to see that VG cares about their customers.

But yeah, it overall sucks because I wont have my new vape for Turkey Day. Even worse is that I've been lied to by over 1/2 the people in USPS customer service, or "Bullshitted" as two of them said. After this experience I will never be ordering overnight from USPS again, and I am literally considering never using their service again.

If they told me that they messed up my shipping, I would not be half as angry. Instead, they dodge around the subject and transfer me to a bunch of other people who try to shake me off and repeat the transfer, BS, Shake-off process. One call should not mean that you have to talk to two robots and 3 people.

Just felt like when I was calling USPS that i should have taken employee names, ID #'s, etc. They showed no respect, and lied to me until i finally was transferred to some nice old lady who told me whats what.

So it SHOULD arrive at the very earliest on 11-27-15, from what the shipping guy at my local USPS office told me. It may not even be shipped to my house, but the office is like 2 minutes away so I I'm fine with that.

At least the folks at VG have made this easier and less stressful for me. That much I'm thankful for, and I think its about time to go have a vape session.

EDIT: Minor spelling error

After much anticipation, I got my Bronze Sherlock.

Mods, you can delete my previous post if you wish, as i believe Its now irreverent and I cannot otherwise edit it to just paste my review over it. I'll sum that post up with "USPS messed quite a bit".

There's not enough room for the tale of what happened to it during shipping, Ill sum it up with USPS got their first strike. So I'll just go straight to the review. I apologize for not reviewing it the day I got it, but its a Holiday weekend and all.

First Impressions: Very high quality Bronze body. Looking at it and holding in person does it far more justice than a photo ever could IMO. Good weight, feels great in my hand. I would NOT want to drop this on someones toe, but it's not so heavy that it is in any way uncomfortable for me to hold for an extended period of time. Taking a draw without flame does NOT taste of bronze (Nor does it during even high temp sessions), though the smell of bronze may rub off on your hands if your sweaty. I expect a natural patina over time on my Gold model, probably slowly darkening from natural skin oils. If its anything like my copper mechanical mods, a simple polishing session is all that one needs to remove this.

Differences from the "Classic Wooden" VG that I noted to be very significant:

-Longer Vapor Path, MUCH smoother hit compared to a normal VG or even my pax. The bronze is thick on the vapor path, so I don't have any worries about it bending or otherwise snapping, even if it took a normal "Counter" or "Bar" height drop. I don't drop my vapes a lot, so cannot comment much otherwise. For me a long drop is waist high.

-You can see the flame enter the Vapor Cap! This allows you to really perfect your technique. Its quite easy for me to do low/medium/high temperature vape sessions with the VG after being able to see the flames location & time spent in the Cap in relation to the taste/heat/amount of the vapor.

-Body is Bronze, again, i can't stress the quality enough.

-Durable, but bronze can be scratched, dented, and bent. Its not SS!

-Heavier, 196g according to VG chart, The Classic weighs in at 75g.

-You are able to use solvents on the Bronze body to clean it. I will report back after 1 month of usage with only the Sherlock to let you know if the reclaim is bronze smelling or seems to have anything funky in it, but I HIGHLY doubt it after talking with their customer support about the safety concerns that I had. Can't wait to get some reclaim oils from this piece.

-It is practically a reclaim well. The design of the Vaporizer (specifically, the Sherlock style and Bronze) is unique, and I have noticed that after a normal session or even long sessions, the bronze bottom gets warm. All of that reclaim oil inside of the bronze body will slowly melt down to the bottom of the Sherlock. When cleaning, I think it would be best to use iso on it after a medium temp session to help loosen up any oils.

-Not a pocket vape. Does it fit in my pocket, with the Vapor Cap on? Yes, but its kind of awkward and it's at an odd angle, plus you risk scratching that nice looking bronze if you put anything else in your pocket. Fits nicely inside my (I wanna say 7"x5") padded "Dime Bag"- which is, by the way, the worst possible brand name for any vaporizer related storage for traveling. But its a quality pouch and I like it.

First Session: I couldn't tell if my new lighter had kicked the can already, or if I was somehow messing up the technique I've been using for years when I first loaded this and hit it. Then I put down the lighter and inhaled the last little bit and some fresh air. It was very hard for me to tell how much vapor I had gotten because the vapor was so smooth, and it is nearly as smooth as the Vapor Cap screwed onto a waterpipe. The vapor tasted VERY clean and pure, zero bronze taste at all, once more.

Vaporization is totally even, but do take into account that I used the Poker in between each puff to stir the load. This is no trouble for me, as the threads on my new cap are very short so I can screw it on and off with little effort. I have yet to see any black spots/hot spots or any kind of overheating at all, and my abv comes out dead even. If you didn't stir it, you might end up with a darker spot, same if you are still learning the technique.

This is asked too often so I'll address it now:
Q: Why pick up a new Vapor Genie when you could have gotten a nice, temperature controlled log vaporizer for a little more cash? Or even a new electronic portable?
A: Because the VG works for me, it is simple, low maintenance, and I genuinely enjoy using them. I'm not saying desktops can't out perform the VG, or that the VG is better than desktops. With this purchase, I wanted a very low maintenance vaporizer that can collect reclaim with ease and also produce the quality

Overall, I got the Bronze Sherlock for solo usage in my home. It functions as I wanted it to, its far smoother than my pax and my past vaporizers. Overall I am very happy with it, especially knowing that VG has a nice warranty service. Compared to my old classic, there is a night and day difference.

Any questions about my bronze Sherlock, guys? Willing to answer!

EDIT: 10% off your next VG purchace for FC members: FCVG10

I think I can get a picture up tonight or tomorrow for sure; but I have some work to do today and will need at least 10 hours to crank that stuff out alone. Plus, I like my photography and would want to setup a nice little photoshoot spot. The pictures on the site don't do it the justice it deserves.. But yes, I'll get some pictures up by tomorrow or the day after, at the latest.

Butane: No butane taste, at all. I use a refillable, dual flame (Both candle and torch) lighters with Vector and or other higher quality butane, so that may play a role. I also never tasted butane on my old VG when using a bic- but I followed the "flick away, burn for 3" rule. I for sure think the flavor is a LOT more pure and clean when using a refillable candle lighter with cleaner butane.

Ceramic Filter: No taste at all, never heard of other users tasting it. I suppose it could affect flavor if you use improper technique and touch the lighter to it or clog it with soot. Also heard of people dropping concentrates directly onto the ceramic, thats a no-no.

Lotus: I have yet to try a lotus, so Its hard for me to comment on this. It's on my want list, but I just cannot deal with portable torch lighters so I passed up on it this time. They break far to fast, and require more filling than I like in my experience- my longest lasting torch is my current, unbranded, presumably made in China torch and its about 8" tall, its lasted about 2 years now and I am still shocked its alive and well. I have, however, researched the lotus extensively and would love the chance to review one if I had the funds. Maybe next time around I'll swing for a lotus with just the top+WPA.

I would say the main differences between a lotus and VG are as follows:
-VG has flame in the airpath, Lotus does not.
-Lotus requires a torch lighter only, VG can use both candle flame and Torch Flame, and also Hempwick.
-Lotus can be easily attached to GoG water pipes, while VG Vapor Caps require a threaded SS Bowl. I've made a WPA setup for my VG by going to a small, local smoke/vape shop and browsing their "Spare parts" cabinet for less than $10. Just clean the hell out of your cap if you want to bring it in to size it up. Remove filter, ISO the threads and under the filter, and watch the wood for cleaning the top.

That's what I know for sure, at least without trying the Lotus. Iirc, another member posted in this form that the cap often requires replacement parts for the top, but i cannot comment on this as I havent used the Lotus. However, Lotus did just come out with their new "High Temp" top, and I like to think that it could be used at "Normal" lotus temps and hold up better than the normal top.

@Nok21 Thanks again for the review. Look forward to seeing a nice picture of the bronze sherlock! I've been curious about that model....one day I hope to have it, I think. I have a maple topper...not sure if the gold model would look good with the maple wood. I got it on vapornation for $20 and that was the only wood model they had left. I couldn't pass it up. Hoping to hook it up to a bong for now using the bronze fip connecter from Home Depot into a 14mm downstem. I messaged someone about the lotus hi-temp cap and they said it had no difference in usage...I wonder if it would truly hold up better. I also wondered if the ceramic flakes off and starts to look bad after a while....I think I would go with the standard because of the lower price.

Vapor Cap on WPA: Go to a smoke/vape shop, and ask if they have metal downstem parts. You can probably find SS parts with ease, especially if you call before you come in. I do know the home depot method works though.

Lotus Hi-Temp cap: By no difference in usage, I assume you mean its heated the same exact way and the functionality/technique is not much different other than being able to take more heat. I'm wondering if the Hi-temp cap will last longer than a normal-temp cap when used at normal-temps because some people said their heating plates were in need of replacement after (presumably) proper usage.

On Ceramic Flaking: Never noticed anything unusual on my old VG's ceramic filter, and that was used almost daily for about 2.5 years. Once every few months, if a friend touched the flame to the filter or combusted, I'd simply torch it red-hot with a butane torch using ceramic tweezers to hold it. I never noticed any degradation or damage.

However, it is fragile and if you push the retaining ring down too hard (I like to think i push mine somewhat hard and I've never had any issues with flaking that I've noticed) it could flake, or if you jab it when trying to remove the retaining ring it could flake. I never had any issues myself. Even after all the drops my ole' purple model has gone through, zero flaking or damage.

Discoloration is normal, if the wrong technique is used. If you see a black mark on the filter, you touched the flame to the filter and that is soot. If you see redish dust, you are using a bic/flint wheel lighter and not letting the flint dust burn off. Light your bick 3' away from the VG, let the flame burn for 2-3 seconds at most, and then use it if you must use a bic. Again, torch the filter red-hot after removing it from the cap and hold it VERY gently, and also take note that one side has a SLIGHTLY tapered end.

If you wanted to ensure that nothing touches the filter while its in your pocket, I'm sure you could use some form of cork to plug the top of the Vapor Cap too.. I might just start doing this.

EDIT: Spelling, etc
