Crafty/Crafty+ by Storz & Bickel

I purchased when first released and received one with a serial number in the 3000s. Today i am sending the device back for repair for the first time. The issue i have is the broken plastic around bowl on the heating unit. Although this issue does not effect the functionality of the vape, I've read in this thread that s&b accept this is down to poor design and thought i might as well get this repaired given the cost of the device.

I have had no issues whatsoever with the unit, apart from connecting to blue tooth which worked fine last time i checked in march '15. The unit may possibly take longer to heat but I've never sat there with a thermometer to check ambient temperature and run multiple tests.

Not sure if anyone else does this but i don't bother with the first preset temperature and use the 2nd higher temperature with every bowl. I think i have this set at 200 Celsius. I get around 3 bowls use this way.

I think you are making a smart move to send it in now, when you do have a valid reason (cracking of the housing that they've since improved upon), but before you have any other issues, specifically with battery. Sounds like you don't. So send in for a brand new updated Crafty. You paid for it!

Same here. Only 13 hours of use. Serial number is nearly 30000.

I think I'm going to do the same in a few weeks. Does anybody knows if S&B Europe arranges upgrades to the Mighty if sending in a Crafty for a reasonable reason under warranty? My guess is that all of those who got it where dealing with S&B USA. Should I just send the Crafty in with a note asking for the upgrade?
My unit doesn't connect anymore via bt. Firmware is 2.05 so I should be entitled for a replacement. How much should they charge?

I dream of S&B bringing out a Crafty mk2 with titanium casing and CU, with easily replaceable batteries eg AA,GH

Maybe even with an all glass air path

Don't see why Germany would have different policy, though I'm not sure you will get the offer if this is your first Crafty return. It might have to be second or third before they perceive frustration and react.

If you're returning it for valid warranty reason, there's no harm at all in asking for the upgrade! Been known to happen. I like the Mighty far better than I did the Crafty(s).

I hope so! Sent mine back with a request for an upgrade to a mighty, since the mighty now costs the same as the crafty did when i originally purchased it.

Seems reasonable and would be the max i would be willing to pay for an upgrade.

For this type of cell 300-500 is around the standard cycles expected before cell is around 70% capacity (cycle defined as charged and discharged = one cycle, regardless of in one go or done in partial charges) so total charge cycles depend on how far you go with regards to DoD (with partial charges the number of cycles go up)

How s&b record this will be important, I would like to think they count a set figure by % so even with partial charges it should register and count each partial charge to add upto a full charge cycle, otherwise people will be cheated and charged for cells that are still usable because of a made up counter.

I have never quite understood these charts. Has anyone figured out what the optimum charging regimen is for saving battery (not for SB warranty). I do the 20-30 percent to 90 but I cannot quite compute most battery protecting amounts. Can anyone do better at chart analysis ( from quoted post)

I have it set to about 347 and 385. After a few flavourful draws at low temperature I then do the double press for high. I don't wait for green but keep using it. It does not turn off cause it is heating and by the time it does turn green it is usually done. Doing this I don't worry about it turning off

It's been a while since my last post but wanted to share my recent experience. I purchased my original crafty in April and have absolutely loved it. I had over 160 hours on my unit until it clunked out on me on Friday the 13th of all days, which was about 11 days ago. The front part of my casing cracked about a month ago and I began to notice a decrease in performance around the same time. I left my crafty on the charger all weekend hoping it would begin charging but to no avail. I sent my crafty in on Monday with a note expressing my sincere love for the product but disappointment in the short life span. I called to confirm delivery on Wednesday and have been waiting on an email explaining what would happen from that point. I took my trash out this morning and remembered i did not check the mailbox when i got home last night. To my surprise there was a brand new Crafty sitting in there. I have been anxious to use it all day and literally just got off of work so it is go time. I am shocked (but not complaining) that they sent a new one without a confirmation email or making me sign for the package. Overall I must say that I am pleased to say the least.

I just grabbed a crafty direct from storz&bickel....

The problem: I can't get the crafty app to connect to the crafty using my ipad air2. I'm running ios 9.1.

The top graph just shows 11 mobile phone batterys that have been charged and discharged 250 times (simulating a years use) and the capacity left after this compared to new.

Table 2 shows how many times you can charge the battery before it reaches 70% capacity depending on how low (DoD) you run the battery with each use.

Table 3 shows the effect temperature and amount of charge the battery is stored with has on the capacity after 1 year.

Table 4 shows how many discharge cycles you can expect depending on how full you charge the battery each time.

The bottom graph is showing how higher voltage (level of charge) reduces the number of cycles the battery with get over its life, although the crafty won't charge over 4.20v so it not really relevant as far as the figures are concerned but the theory behind it is still relevant.

So table 2 shows us that running the battery to empty will reduce the cycles over the life of the battery, table 3 shows us that high temps and a full charge should be avoided for storage, and table 4 shows us that charging to full will reduce the cycles over the life of the battery.

Basically just keep doing what your doing and this should give your battery a longer total life at the sacrifice of runtime per charge.

The way I see it is there a 3 options...
1. Longest runtime per charge = charge to full and run to empty = shortens the overall life of the battery
2. Longest overall battery life = don't charge to full or run empty = shortens runtime per charge
3. Bit of both depending on the situation, after all you have to enjoy it

It may be a silly question but did you add your crafty serial number in the app under settings?

It says something along the lines of... Crafty not detected, etc.

I made sure my bluetooth was on and the crafty was on....

I just did a search on google and it appears it may have something to do with ios 9.1.... Or at least that's what some seem to be saying...

Good news...

I deleted the app... Powered down my ipad....powered up my pad...reinstalled the app....

And Bingo! We have a connection!

I'm still debating the Crafty..... I miss the one I sold a while back, but still apprehensive about the longevity/performance. Need some more reports of healthy batteries with sub 2min heatup times after 50 hours or so of usage! Just need to get my confidence up!

Does anyone own the OEM power bank from S&B? It says it recharges the Crafty two times, and seems pretty reasonably priced, or are there much better alternatives? How long would it take to charge the crafty with this power bank?

What is the charge time on an empty battery? 2 hours from what I remember?

Just checked my Crafty. It has 33 hours on it and no problems (knock on wood). I never checked heat up time but it sure feels like it's more than 2 minutes (may be closer to 3). But honestly, that's really no big deal. When I get my gh, I'll have instant heat up.

I get 3 sessions between charging and never run the battery out. I prefer its size to the Mighty and it's my go-to vape now. I keep looking for something to bump it from the top spot and can't find one!

Well if you can tolerate its size, that 3 minutes will become 1 minute and 3 bowls will turn into 6. Thanks for your post, it has helped me make up my mind!

I am new to this forum, been using nothing but quality vaporizers for 5 years. I just ordered my Crafty, I live in AK & it gets below freezing daily for 6-7 months a year. I always have my Arizer solo (now it's the Air) in a Vapecase, in my truck & they both work long enough (even @ sub zero)
to get medicated & not be in extreme pain anymore. The Air makes it easier with replaceable battery that I just keep in my jacket pocket. The battery in the Crafty is my only concern to begin with. Am I going to get a message on my phone saying "battery is to cold" if I leave it in my truck long enough for it to cool down to ambient temp? I am getting concerned that I am going to have buyers remorse due to battery function. Any other cold climate users out there that can calm my concern?

@AKFiRe Welcome to FC! There is a new member in the Mighty thread as well! Nice to see FC growing due to S&B products! In your case, just IMO - i'd go with the Mighty!

Do you think S&B would do a upgrade for difference in cost? Or am I better off selling the crafty NIB & buy the Mighty? I almost pulled the trigger on the mighty but decided to get the crafty & the S&B power bank for portability. I also am a bit interested in the app. I was thinking that I would be ok if I warmed it up for a min on the defrost then pass-through charge with the power bank. I am now questioning my decision.

It's not so much about holding them IMO that you should consider overall though. It's more the function, and battery life/heatup time plus overall longevity. But I understand it's a huge investment and if you can, why not!?
