Discontinued The Grasshopper

That's good to know Adobewan.

Always found the reports of batteris only lasting 1 bowl a bit dubious. Especially after seeing vape wizards review on YouTube where they get through around 5 bowls. Maybe some people have faulty batteries/hoppers? Find it doubtful it's only down to the way they use their hoppers.
I'm just a couple days in but battery hasn't lasted more than 2 bowls yet, I'm drawing fast and turning off in the middle. Need more time to test capacity, and only one battery for now (they didn't combine my orders) so limited capacity to test.

Come to think of it, the guys from vape fiend say theirs only lasts 2 bowls too.
I can't see it being too much of a problem as the spare batteries are relatively cheap and quite small in size too.

Mine has almost always died on the third bowl, first or second hit. When I used the Hopper at 1-4.2, it was able to finish a third bowl.

I've gotten some full melt wax, and I'll have you know I only almost died 3 or 4 times.

Lots of oil on the mouthpieces, but other than that there was no left over residue, and it worked very well. I ended up getting probably 10 hits on five. Maybe more even. I did get a chance to record a good amount of it too.

It seems it can be pretty easy to make the Hopper lights flash how you want them. A half click, and then another click will give the dead battery lights. But a quick off and back on will not have that result. Food for thought, although this makes a goood amount of sense.

Yup, having to charge mid-day isn't ideal but it's quick and easy w/ USB. And it's what I've been doing w/ my FM Mini as battery at 6 mos is only reliable for 2 bowls, and that is a 3 hour charge.

I'm really loving the GH tech - powerful, efficienct, quick extraction - above the current form. The pen is very nicely done and fun to use, but the two main drawbacks of heat and battery life are hardest to address in this form. I'm thinking cut a hopper in half and put 3 halves side by side into a nicely palmable unit w/ two batteries and 2" glass airpath. That with a plug-in-power option for at home would be the only vape I'd ever need.

You should charge ghl for that design!

Really hope the guys at HL design a larger mouthpiece with a built in CU. Can't imagine it being too difficult for them to come up with something.

I've been criss crossing the country over the past 10 days, first a few days in Florida, followed by a few days in Oregon (my oh my their dope is so good, best in the country in my opinion, I always forget how good it is till I get there!) then D.C. So below is a user tiptrik of life on the road and in the air with limited cannabis access and using the GH as really your ONLY vape.

For context, I've had my GH since mid-July. Am I a total fan boy? YES. Have I had warranty issues? YES. My current vape I've been using non-stop and no worries since early September. My other vapes are Firefly, Pax2 and MiVape.

All of which I use very rarely if at all (I never use my Firefly, I gave it another go on the recommendation of @BuzzDanklin with some new draw techniques, I don't think you're wrong Buzz, I just don't want to work that hard but agree its "worth" it and my pax2 I also never use anymore, the MiVape I have been using because as someone mentioned earlier about pairing GH and a Crafty, it is nice to have a "session" vape companion for the GH and so far the Mivape is in the running but I still use it maybe once or twice a day as compared to the GH being my go-to device.).

I took my GH and about a little less than an eighth with me expecting that should get me through 3 days until I could stock up again in Oregon. I am an all day everyday consumer and now I am also on a vacation on a beach so, under VERY HEAVY usage, I found I used about 4 batteries a day. I also would vary pack between fully packed because I had wrongly convinced myself that its "more convenient" (more on pack amount later) and some very small packs because I was doing it super fast while walking or something like that.

As for discretion, whether going through security at the airport or vaping ANYWHERE other people where vaping or smoking, this device is the discretion champ. No one ever batted an eye. As I was being more conservative than usual because (I live in Colorado so I usually am not concerned about conserving cannabis) my stash was it, I definitely found that one can get hits off a fully packed bowl far longer than I would normally go for. With temp stepping starting around 2.5 and going to 5 I would get anywhere between 25-30 hits per bowl. Under this kind of usage however I noticed battery life was about the length of the bowl. So as you read this post and everyone's else know that "bowl" needs to be defined by how packed it is because conversely with a slight pinch per bowl, I easily get 4-5 "bowls" per battery (again more on pack later).

By the end of the weekend in Florida, I still actually had a little bud left over, certainly not enough to worth taking to a Florida airport when flying to Oregon so that, ahem got disposed of faster than a GH could manage and allow me to also get to the airport (read, smoked a joint of it).

Oregon, oh Oregon your dope is good, anyway restocked in Oregon, spent a few days of Grasshopper inspired misadventures and then treated myself to PDX's liberal cannabis policy to ensure I have enough to through 4 days in D.C. which, incase you haven't been there lately, you can consume cannabis openly and publicly just about anywhere. It is awesome, I mean WHOA, I mean OH THATS HOW LIFE SHOULD BE, as in I live in Boulder Colorado and I feel more comfortable ripping my grasshopper walking down Pennsylvania avenue than I do Pearl Street. Don't believe me? Google Boulder e-cig ban and Washington Post DC smells like weed. So long as you bring your own DC is the best cannabis consumer experience in the Country right now!

Anyway, I have a friend who I actually introduced to the GH who happened to get his a few weeks ago, unfortunately had to send it back for QC but got his new one while I was in town. We went to his apartment and we were both loading our GH's and as I was filling mine up in preparation for going out he looks at me and is like "What are you doing? Thats WAAY too much".

Funny for me because the first time he used a GH was when he tried mine back in August (he backed after mine so he had to go from using a GH to waiting months for his own but c'est la no?) I was probably the one who originally told him to pack it with almost nothing because those of you who may remember from my posts in the summer I was a total zealot about a pinch will do ya.

I had convinced myself during the days of travel that packing a big bowl to last quarter of a day was convenient and made sense. Of course the wisdom of someone who lives in a city where absolutely no once cares if you're walking down the street packing a GH was insightful for me.

What I was reminded of going back to the pinch method (from which I will never stray again) is that less is WAAAAAY more with the GH. So instead of loading my GH to the brim I used a tube from my buddy and ground up some bud to go.

I forgot that if you're just taking a little pinch the GH is super easy to load and takes almost no time.

I forgot that because the GH is so efficient, the Terpenes (read flavor) get stripped pretty fast so you can extract cannabinoids well after the terpenes (which I know follow the science that says they are as if not more important to the psychoactive experience) that with a full pack you can get 10-15 cloudy, potent but absolutely flavorless hits, where with a pinch you maybe only get 6-8 hits but of those 4-5 taste amazing and pretty much both the terps and the cannabinoids are gone pretty quickly.

And I forgot that with a pinch, no need to worry about tapping a bowl out or finding a paper clip because the ABV just falls right out.

And finally, (more on discretion of a tight pack in a sec) I forgot that for cloud production for those who do really care about that, less is more because pack and airflow are inverse proportional.

To quickly advocate for something I totally don't believe in for myself but I'm sure someone might and as it shows the "versatility" (I don't think its versatile at all, I think the GH is best as it was designed although you "could" do this ...), I came to appreciate during my travels with a fully tightly packed and therefore restricted airflow GH something .... "Cloudless Vaping".

With a fully packed chamber and set on temp 2, I could get quite a few very delicious hits that were definitely full of active terps and cannas cus I was baked but got no clouds coming out. I found that with this technique I could get 10 hits or so before I had to turn the temp up. Once above 3 clouds where unavoidable. It was awesome for pure discretion though and good to know that once could literally use it anywhere. Fully packed, temp 2, no clouds, literally the only thing the absolutely nobody that cared what I was doing was maybe why is there a light coming out of my pen but really nobody looked at me, whether in a restaurant or bar or wherever because there was really only flavor.

I can also see using a full pack on higher temps for sessioning bong rips. The Grasshopper definitely "does" all of those things.

That said, I'm going back to the pinch at a time. All joking aside, my experience with the GH has been awesome, limited QC issues, addressed quickly and a great travel companion.

It is however as GH has always stated, which is why their price point is so low (again as an early backer it was only $99 but even now at $150 its still at least 50 bucks cheaper than any other vape I own and never use anymore) this is a PERSONAL device. Can you share it? Sure and I did but I liked my GH best when I got DC and my friend had his own. Can you pack it full? Sure if thats your pleasure, but for a cannasiuer, there is no reason not to use the device optimally which is a small loose pack, just a pinch which will get you a bunch of flavorful cloudy rips. Then just unscrew the top and let the ABV just fall out and pack the next bowl.

At home with friends doing bong rips? Okay, pack in just a pinch, crank up the temp and clear that bowl! Then dump it out and pass it on to your friend. They can pack in a pinch of the same dope or something different and get FRESH TASTY HITS! Thats of course if your friend doesn't have their own GH for some reason. Either way, there's no reason to not have fresh hits. Freshies for everybody is the point of the GH. It seems a lot of people are saying are shortcomings of the device are really just using it sub optimally. I mean if its really important to you that your friend take a hit off a bowl where all the flavor is already stripped then the GH is not for you, try a glass bowl, guaranteed only one person gets freshies.

But for those who prefer everyone gets maximum flavor, get a GH and pack it light, and let everyone in the group vape the entire bowl of 5-6 hits. Its the optimal way to use the device in my opinion. Everyone deserves a tasty GH rip and if they don't have their own GH, they'll thank you to finish your bowl and let them pack a fresh one for themselves when they borrow your GH. By personal device, I don't mean "selfish" device, I just mean "one person at a time".

Well, seems to me they have a battery issue! Hopefully they get it worked out before people start to think its a vaporizer issue, maybe a new supplier is in order? I seem to recall MFLB having a similar issue with battery distrubuters.

Some people getting 1-2 bowls while others getting 4-5 isnt right.. Has anyone tried aftermarket batteries??

A bowl is different for everyone, especially when people use such varied amounts in their packs.

If a battery can only do one bowl of ANY load size/technique in the GH then something is wrong. While I know size and draw technique will have some affect on bowls per charge I hardly believe any variations of which would affect it to this degree.

Like I said earlier this reaks of mflb pre glyph battery issues, GH may be getting sold poor quality or inconsistent batteries from the manufacturer. Regardless I'm interested if a different battery pack or possibly a pack from a different manufacturer would remedy the issue.

seems like everyone who reported really short battery life has also had the back end problem.

I don't think there is any reason to start thinking there are problems with the batteries themselves.

The gh I'm using makes it thru one load. I've experienced this more as the norm than not. I use it on 2 and always turn it off mid draw. But, I nurse it for a while, it'll get me 2 (maybe 3) highs.

I don't think it can be measured in loads, has to be minutes on. I've not added up the time it's on for though. It's the worst of all my vapes for sure. I do one load and then throw it back on the charger.

Edit: Forgot, this back end gets a little warm, but not uncomfortably hot at all. Seems fine to me, nothing unusual or concerning (with nothing to compare it to).

These are all symptoms of a malfunctioning Grasshopper. 1 battery for 1 bowl on temperature 2 is not normal, and this sounds like you have not had the Hopper for over two months (iirc it is your friends?). Either way, I would begin to inquire GHL for warranty, as it would be worth 3-5 days without a Hopper for a fully working one.

Moving on, within the last week I have noticed more heat coming from the back end. Only on the seam where it screws together. The Hopper itself is still working at what seems to be 100%. AVB, vapor production, and battery life are all normal still but this is new.

Pics for the next paragraph: http://imgur.com/aw6Yksp&NBDspZ4&5ck69Ad

Photo 1 for reference.
Photo 2 not depressed.
Photo 3 I am pressing the gold tab. The difference in seal is minute, but there.

Also, I've learned something new about the backend. The gold circular tab can be depressed. When it is, the temperature dial slides much more easily. In fact, it slides so easy you could move your hand and it would slide around and follow. Yeah. What does this mean? The gold tab acts as a kind of locking mechanism for the dial. For us with Hoppers, this could potentially solve any stiff backend issues we have seen. I think the battery acts as both the contact point (obviously) but also as the pedestal to depress the backend. If you have a Hopper, you may notice the last few threads of screwing in the backend is a little tough. I think the gold tab is our culprit here. Now, remove the battery and screw it in. The threading will be as smooth as the mouthpiece, all the way through.

Firm tight backend I think is what the Grasshopper wants when you're having those stiff dial days.

@slcbdco I have some questions for you regarding flying. Where/how did you store your Hopper and batteries? I have a flight coming up and this will be my first time flying with vapes (that have been rigorously cleaned of course). It's only a short instate flight, but nonetheless.... I'd like to be safe :)

Also, do you notice with pinch loads how the herb seems to float around on the inside? I have wondered if that may affect the end result of AVB and vapor. At the very least, I can't seem to get it dark dark brown/black like temp 5 can normally do with a slightly packed chamber.

What if I get 20 minutes worth of hits out of that one bowl, then it'd be normal I think, right? Like someone else said, everyone is different with their load. Haha

I'll time it one of these days. Someone said ten minutes usage time is normal, that's probably what my buddy's is.

Honestly the only time I get black ABV is if its temp 5 through a bong, in general I'm pretty happy when the ABV is a dark brown. Its also nice to have a stash for rolling into spliffs when I need to scratch my tobacco itch.

Answering your questions backwards, I put all my batteries and my GH in my carry on. In your checked it might get tossed because of the batteries. If anything Denver's airport would be the hardest because they have a better chance of knowing what to look for by sheer volume of dope and dope related accessories going through but I'm about 10 flights in and no one has given my GH so much as a glance. Its not stinky either and super low maintenance so apart from just making sure its empty (which I was pleasantly surprised to find that I forgot to do on the leg from Portland to DC) thats all I do.

Keep it in your carry on and not stinky and its totally fine.

It looks like I'm having enough symptoms - a bit of warmth at back end, but mostly a battery that's really only reliable for one full session of 6 hard pulls native at 3.5, and even at 5 isn't getting dark ABV - that I sent a warranty request . It's still very effective for that one session, but feel like I'm missing out on the full experience.

Well, after a bit more than a week and 5 emails, body #4 has arrived. Hopefully, with their new forms online, this will improve their process.

I realized immediately how much i missed it. Having gone back to O pens and my one hitter, i sure do hope my GH stays around a while. I went through a lot more flower using the one hitter. So far, my new (ish) GH is working great, in fact, like the first one I had. I do think the draw on this unit is easier than the last, but that could have been due to whatever was wrong with that one. the back end on it is now getting warm... But I'll see how it goes a bit before I reach out to them.

I have two batteries... I one of them seems to drain faster than the other... I should test it to see, but I usually forget by the time it is drained

I also find my style of smoking is similar to what @slcbdco describes as his pinch method. I usually put a pinch in, smoke it out completely (I get coffee brown ABV). I've only done larger loads a few times - I like maxing out the flavor on it from small loads.. I only use it on setting 5. I like big clouds.

I've rarely drained two batteries, but I recharge a lot when using it.

I just checked and I cannot depress the gold circle.

I concur!

And yep, my gold circle is springy. I have ointment.

Thanks a ton @slcbdco pretty much what I was planning.

@TheWhisper it's interesting that yours doesn't press down. Are you able to tell if pressing slightly firm down on the dial makes it easier to turn? That is the case for me.
