Sharing isn't quite the same, do you guys know what I mean?
Yo, with the joint it was easier. But I got at home a guest-VM and on the road I handle it like Vape Knight and fill up for every new vapper a fresh bowl, because I want them to have the best aroma sensation as possible. ;-)

If stealth is a big factor, MFLB absolutely wins. In my situation, the noise of the torch clicking and the smell of the butane is noticeable enough that the VM is not my daily driver.
I agree, if it's the argument of the clicking noise and the gas. But in summer, when I'm on the restaurants terrace and want to vape, I prefere to hide the VM in my paw and nowbody realies what I'm doing, if I'm not in the middel of the action.

Or the other strategy is, I asking the waitress for a bit of peppermint-tee-herbs and explaining what I'm doing with the VM. Most of the people doesn't know nothing about the vape, so they are quite open for it, because it doesn't stink and I make no clouds. If they want to try out with peppermint, I got a virgin VM with me, who never saw other herbs than peppermint.:p

And everybody loves it! And later, they arn't interest, what I do after for herbs inside... :brow:
For them, I'm only the funny guy, who "smokes" peppermint and it doesn't hurt anybody. :sherlock:

Only those, who behave conspicuousely, are all the more conspicuous.:D

Yep, the noise gives you away. Before piezo igniters became all the rage, a few lighters used a battery to provide an electric spark to ignite the gas. It was a carry on for a traditional counter top lighter common early on in tobacco shops, you'd light your stogie on them. I've seen a couple, big wood box full of batteries with a handle that looks like an inverted spring hand exerciser that carried a solvent soaked wick, like in a Zippo. It made a nasty cracking sound with a long spark we don't need.

If someone would use that 'no click' technology and muffle the gas flow noise (easy) we could collectively make him rich I bet.

there are several companies who make touch sensitive torch lighters that are silent

Great, although all I can find are 'hot wire' electrics (no flame, no gas) and a couple of pricey ones with flint ignition which is not only not really silent but has the issue of the toxic dust from the flint. There are a couple that use gas, but they tend to be 'flameless' rather than proper torches. I doubt they'd be useful with VM.

Can you please direct me to a link for these 'touch sensitive' (hopefully 'Vapman worthy') units? TIA.

I haven't kept up with lighter much since switching to vaping six years ago. here is one variation of a lighter that at least is quiet.

there used to be several companies using touch pad or laser interrupted ignition construction. I'll do some web searching in my free time for you.

here is another for you @OF

I'm not sure if they are " VM worthy" :) I'm particular to having a thumb button and a design that is most similar to a small kitchen torch simply because of the position I hold both lighter and VM. However, if discreetness is your goal I'm sure some aesthetics or ergonomics could be sacrificed.
For me, I'm patiently waiting for the Grasshopper, arguably the king of disguise.

Thanks. I saw the first, from a couple sources, but rejected it due to the tiny flame. OK for lighting a ciggie I guess, but we've got a pan to heat here.......

The second, while probably overkill on the flame front (as are most of the cigar lighters I checked out), too broad to stay off the body of the VM. Perhaps workable turned down but it's also Piezo ignition (one of the two things we're looking to get away from).

Is kinda flashy though, the very thing a stogie smoker I used to work with would go for.

Thanks again, the search continues. I might consider cobbling up something to replace the piezo sound (spark coil and battery), but the 'muted roar' of the flame also needs some work?

Hi guys! Been lurking for a while but this is my first post on FC. I am quite new to vaping but I have been totally combustion-free for about 2 months now and I love it. I too, like many I believe, discarded the butane powered vapes initially. But now I find them intriguing!

At the moment, I have an MFLB. I love it. Didn't take me long to learn to use it and while I still learn more and more as I go I would say I am the master in our relationship. I know its too late for me, its only a matter of time before I order one. I can't help it, just looks like so much fun! But if someone who has or has used both could compare them a bit? I know the main differences like stealth, butane vs batteries etc, but am more interested in differences in flavor, efficiency and maybe some aspects of it that you didn't expect or took you long to discover? Thanks
My first portable vape was an MFLB. I got one when they first came out. It was OK, but I got tired of dealing with batteries.

Then I tried an all glass Vapolution Pocket Vape which I got because it was butane powered and I liked the simplicity of the design, but it was difficult to get consistent results with it. It's also a pain to keep clean and I actually broke it while cleaning it... But it does work. And it only cost $40 with he torch lighter, if I remember correctly. It's the same idea behind the Vapcap. I wonder how that one will work. I see it'll be a pain in ass to clean...

I used to love the clever design of the MFLB, and Forrest, the inventor is a real cool guy. It pisses me off that so many people started making and selling crappy MFLB knockoffs.

It's just that I really don't like dealing with batteries, and that first version didn't have the feature where the battery would push out by itself when you released the pressure. You had to push it in and then pull it out to stop it.

Then I decided to test he vapman and the rest is history.

It got me better effects than the MFLB with a fraction of the material - A Big plus point for me. I couldn't believe it!

It is easier to use, beautiful wood design - it's just a super smart and beautiful piece of Functional Art - in my opinion.

I think people are too used to electronics that will do everything for them and got how to think for themselves. They are no longer familiar with getting to know a tool and becoming efficient with it.

They expect everything to work out of the box (like sucking on a milkshake), with no I put or effort on their part at all.

People are becoming stupider and stupider and when the automatic ass wiping machines arrive, they won't even know how to wipe their own assessment anymore! - but I digress...

That's my take on the MFLB vs vapman.

Peace :peace:

Amen!

As time goes on, as individuals we become less independent. With it our freedoms decline as we look to others to do for us. Eventually we demand they take care of us.

I too favor individual contribution/responsibility. The alternative is too close to "1984" for me. I too use VM more often than MFLB, although I still find the LB a useful thing.

I'm in the same camp as OF in that my Vapman is used more often then the Launch Box these days. I can say The VM and MFLB are my two favorite portable vaporizers and If I HAD to narrow down my collection to only a couple tools they would be kept close for sure. (I hope to never be without a VM, mflb and an Underdog or HI)

Do you all find the VM more efficient than the MFLB?

I find the Vapman to be more efficient in the aspect of time involved, from an empty torch to vapor in a couple of minutes instead of hours charging a battery.

Also do prefer the taste of the VM and find it can be a little quicker for a full session, That said using either with the same amount of herb the effect on body and mind seem pretty much the same 10 minutes after I've finished a load and both can do tiny loads.

As @KidFated said above if I can only take one or two hits at a time during the day I'll use the Box but if I'm taking 5-10 minutes and can sit back to finish the load I go Vapman, although you can do one hit at a time with the VM too somehow it just seems to lend itself better for me to use it as a session vape.

EDIT: I REALLY LIKE THIS STRATEGY, Gourmet. - Damn auto-correct!

I've mentioned before how I think people should use many different herbs in the vapman. Any herb that you can make tea from would work in the vapman with good health benefits.

And thanks to all for the input on the MFLB vs vapman.

Don't say this! We (Swiss) invented this kind of toilet too:

Absolutely true and we can't repeat it to often!

Everybody should try at home the favored kitchen-herbs or tea, or searching in the net for phyto-inhalation (I find only german information, maybe someone can bring an english link).:sherlock:

I like f.i. rosemary or thyme too, specially when I caught a cold. The temperature are prefered lower than with cannabis.
And also fresh herbs are possible and smells very good.
(but in the cannabis-section, I prefer a good long curing)

Went to my mates, all loved the VM! New lighter turned to shit would flick a flame but was not reliable. Thought all was lost, had to go back to combustion because the lighter was only really useful for sparking a bowl by this stage. Later on one of my mates rustled up some old "xing" genrade shaped lighter with a big tank and angled nossel. Anyone else use one of these? Thing is amazing! Took ownership of it until my shipment turns up.

Nice looking. But not invented unless it's a lot older than it looks? 25 years or so I saw a similar 'full service dunny' in Japan (but with lots of lights and switches of course). Used it as well. You could set wash and drying temperature, and add scent??? Call me old fashioned.......

Us Yanks (or should that be 'we Yanks?) don't see bidets here. Most go through life without ever seeing one I bet. It wasn't until I started traveling I saw my first one. Shortly after met a guy in Saudi Arabia who did his photography in his. Used it as a temperature controlled water bath for the chemicals, and running wash for the prints.

BTW, the Japanese also had what I thought was a very cool invention toilet wise, the refill water would come out a small tall facet on top. Well, not so much a faucet as a curved 'u turn' pipe that ended over an inset SS bowl. You'd wash your hands and the waste water would drain into the holding tank and be used in the next flush. Not good if you have a dog I guess......

Went to my mates, all loved the VM! New lighter turned to shit would flick a flame but was not reliable.

Bummer that. But the only sure way to not have lighter troubles is to have a backup in standby. Like the sign of the cross to a vampire, Murphy beats feet the other way.

For next time, this is usually caused by loss of pressure (low or bad gas, cold weather) or some fouling in the metering orifice. Some designs are more sensitive here it seems, ironically some of the most exacting, expensive lighters are the most prone. Perhaps it's like the AK-47 laughing at sand and the m16 throwing a fit under the same conditions.

So be sure it's warm, consider a refill (including a dump of the fuel load). And adjust the flame valve up a fair bit (say a turn?) and blow some gas through, Valve up and valve down both. The gas is a great solvent, it can leave deposits at that critical point like paint drying. The idea is to wash it out. Sometimes simple debris in the tank gets into the valve, this 'open it up and let it run a bit' can clear that too. Then turn it down again, of course. Over the years I found few that didn't recover. It's a simple machine, unless something actually breaks it's almost sure to be fuel or spark. The latter, spark, can often be fixed by careful cleaning of the burner and spark tip with a bit of ISO or lighter fluid (Naphtha) on some cotton on a toothpick (like a mini q-tip).

Easiest to just have a spare handy, lets you focus on the VM and the herb.

I will weigh in on the MFLB front too, as I have been using mine a bit more recently.

Bottom line for me is that the Vapman gets me higher with less/the same amount of herb than the MFLB does. I love using, holding and looking at the LB (reminds me of a toy car or plane with the batt and stem in), but compared to the Vapman it is an inefficient use of my weed. Seems crazy to say that about the LB, because it is pretty efficient .

I use my LB because I love using it, I enjoy the ritual. Love using the Vapman for those reasons too but it has the extra positive of getting me really high .

As an aside to that point, maybe the regulars have some insight into this question: Why does the Vapman have such strong effects? I mean, we all know of the Vapman's magic, but still.........

I swear the Vapman gets me higher than my other vapes, I use my Underdog every night but the Vapman knocks my ass around on the reg. Three UD glass stems and three Vapman bowls use about the same amount of bud for me but I find it hard to think straight after the three Vapman bowls :ko:.

Three? I'm having trouble making torch flame and VM meet after only one bowl! I crawled under a blanket, closed my eyes and I was floating in a gently wavy ocean for some time before falling asleep. :whoa:
Actually, I was talking to my husband about that just today, that the VM uses far less herb than the ol pipe, but we are going through WAAAAAY more herb than before!! It's so tasty now, easier to load and clean out, nice on the lungs and throat, and EFFECTIVE (because combustion didn't do that much for me), that we partake every night since the Vapman arrived! Building up quite a little jar of ABV. hehe

To think a few pages back people were posting pics of ten spent loads!.....How they managed to operate a camera after that - let alone a computer - I will never know .

Thanks a lot guys on the insights comparing the VM and MFLB. If I wasn't sold on one I sure as hell am now.
I used to roll joints, and used to love the rolling part. Mine would be long and thin (and BEAUTIFUL) and burn slowly. With the LB its still a bit ritualistic with the finishing grinder fitting nicely on top of the trench and ... But its like something is missing.
I think these vapes with a steeper learning curves can get into peoples emotions, its more of a personal experience. I mean that in a good way, I like to think of it as a hobby over just consuming  I have a feeling santa might bring something else than socks and underwear this year! :sherlock:
