Arizer Solo

Thanks @OF for the explanation...I always value your insightful posts. However, I just googled "Arizer Solo Convection" and it appears that many people including myself disagree with it being a Conduction vape only.

You're welcome. Lots of folks believe in ghosts as well, but science doesn't share that opinion. Or 'Mister Right' for that matter? Thermodynamics is a real science, it defines the 3 terms and describes how they work. Opinions to the contrary might be interesting, but I think without merit unless someone can demonstrate how this 'rule breaker' does so?

What sales might say to increase the appeal of their product, even if they believe it to be true, is not really evidence of much past an interest in more sales. It doesn't change the facts or science behind them. The same guys are just as likely to give other unrealistic performance claims (like battery life). It's their job.......

For instance, "Heating is a natural process of moving energy to or from a system other than by work or the transfer of matter. The heat passes only from a hotter to a colder system". Heating the load is work being done as defined by Physics. Energy flow. This says the air has to be hotter than the load to transfer heat (do work), we know that's not happening here. Air drawn in is cooler? "The heat passes only from hotter to colder". Can't be Convection or Radiation, it has to be Conduction.

I guess I now prefer conduction vaporizers? This is why the vapour is so much smoother on my airways?

Who knows, or cares? If it fits you and your needs it's right no matter the name. The contrary is also true, no matter what it's called if it doesn't cut the mustard.......

There is nothing magic about Convection. Consider Box Vapes are Convection? They're certainly not held in universal high esteem (bad pun, but it's a small Forum......).

I think you're right, the enjoyment is the key (MMJ aside). The vapor matters, how it's made not so much. Of academic interest for the most part? How a vape uses (controls) heat and what it's made of are what counts I think. You can make great vapor by Conduction, Convection or Radiation since they are only tools, not components, in the vapor making process.

Regards.

I just don't understand how I can put the Solo on a cold stem (gong) and start getting vapour? There is no way the glass can heat up so fast. I guess there would have to be warm air going through the herb, no? My impression of a conduction vape was more along the lines of a PAX.

I will make a video soon!

Yes, the air is warm. But no, it doesn't make vapor. Warm air won't make vapor, at least not at useful rates. It has to be hot to make vapor, like almost 400F hot.

Solo is conduction. To be convection the air would have to enter the load hotter than it leaves, not the other way around.

Don't know if anyone has seen these yet, nor do I know if anyone but myself cares about them, but I thought they were Super Kewl ..

Wood Skins

I also saw many, many wood variations, (White and Burch really stood out) The above is "Knotty"

Probably anything one could think of...
I saw one with the Colorado Mountains...Awesome.

Even though I absolutely love my sleek black Solo, perhaps for my future backup.

*********

While I hate :horse:...... Ima gonna do it anyway..

Regarding the Conduction/ Convection topic, a newbie Vaporist (myself) is curious about....

"Convection Mode"

If one were using the PV Single Bore Turbo GonG ... Could this be a Hybrid of all three of the aforementioned methods of heat transfer?...

Conduction being the dominant source and Convective and Radiant properties following closely??

My SOLO is every old!

However I use it a lot every day.
Taste is not bad and the effect can be crippling!

I was going to buy another portable however I keep getting disappointed from what is available?

For the $ I find the SOLO to keep me away from smoking joints.
This is my preference and I might be wrong however I do not care!

Out in the garden the SOLO gets the job done correctly.

CANNABIS is safer than KooLaid!

I don't get all scientific about it?
Just enjoy using it!

Where did you see those skins? I've been looking myself but have only found this page: www.247skins.com/index.php?l=product_detail&p=420 its got some cool ones, really like the graphite and blackwood one.

Pretty neat, but I wonder if they leave any residue or stay put well.

I also wonder about the longevity and whether or not they will leave a funky residue. I also wonder if it makes the Solo look "Cheap"

But, the Skin on my Box-Mod made my beat up device look new again.

Ohhh, man.... I liked the Blackwood and Graphite myself.

Hi guys, so I'm new to all this. The Dr recommended the Arizer Solo, I've been using it daily since beginning of August. It's very smooth but I have yet to actually get high. Once actually with intense keef, but other than that nothing! What am I doing wrong? I pack 1/2 or Lil more not too tight. I vape 12 min cycle on 4 or 5, when I do not see clouds I bump to 6. Then I change tube for another of the same 3 times a day. I understand it's good to be functional, but sometimes it's not enough for pain... I tend to inhale longer for about 10sec then hold for 8 ish then exhale. How do you vape?

Welcome @Cannalady. I wonder about the strength of your medicine. Are you able to get good quality medical cannabis?

A person can get medicated even if you don't see visible vapor, like lower temps. We like seeing the vapor, I know I do. I'm not sure what could be the problem other than your material that your vaporizing. You only need to hold your draw in 3 or 4 seconds, you can hold longer. Maybe you have a high tolerance to cannabis?

I use cannabis for pain, it doesn't go away it's just makes it easier to tolerate. It helps with the muscle stiffness and nerve pain.

Thanks for the warm welcome! I know my herb is not great... But it's what I can afford for now. I can't afford 500 a month from lp. I did get high from my bong, but it hurts my poor lungs too much to do it like that regularly for me.
Another quick question, how long does your battery last? I'm having to charge mine for the 2nd time today! This is new and it worries me.

CANNABIS is the oldest medicine I know of!

I use the SOLO all day long I start with Sativa then a HYBRID.
At night I plug in and enjoy a pure indica.

4 is.My.standard (level)

6 with SHATTER or HASH I roll it in cotton others might use something else!

CANNABIS is sacred!

I have 2 Solos, one is charging when the other is being used. I get at least 8 sessions at level 4. I try to keep from running the battery all the way to the bottom; I try to stop when all the yellow lights are gone and before the red light comes on. When charging I stop after all the yellow lights are steady, but before the flashing green light turns solid green. This procedure should result in longer battery life.
I use these Solos a lot. I am a medical user, so I may go through several cycles each day.
I anticipate that they will each last at least two years under these conditions...we'll see!!
Not to worry, a better than original replacement battery is less than $50.00.

This is unfortunate, but not uncommon. Lots of us are in the same or similar spots. I'm glad you're exploring vaping as a solution, which it has been for many of us.

Combustion includes lots of nasty stuff you can 'get off' on. Over time your mind links them with THC. You can break that link if you swear off combustion completely for a few days to a week or two (varies with individuals it seems). But no backsliding, even a single session can reset that clock and further convince your sub conscious that 'vaping doesn't work'.

You might explore WTs. Adding moisture and cooling the vapor can be a big help.

Also worth considering in the MMJ area is eatables. You might check into 'firecrackers' (Peanut Butter and herb on Graham crackers toasted in a toaster oven. Or the old standby, brownies.

Many of us seek out 'high CBD' strains, probably not an option for you right now, since they tend to keep your head clear while still providing medicinal benefits.

You might even try a two pronged attack? Order a bubbler and either a GonG from PV or PIU or an Air stem (which cost $10 and mate up with '14mm GonG connectors' and also try a few firecrackers?

Good luck with your experiments, I'm sure there's useful option to suit you in there somewhere superior to combustion. One lost thought, you are aware that conversion to vaping will save you big time on your herb bills, right? Most of us found a reduction to 1/3 or even 1/4 their normal consumption. The heat of combustion destroys most of the THC before it can get out an on it's way to you it seems. Sinful waste I'm sure you agree? That savings can have you shopping that top shelf in no time and saving money doing so.

@Cannalady, I know you say you cant afford high quality. But low quality can be false economy. Less of a higher quality strain could be more efficient for you.

I know it works for me. I will cane my way through low to mid quality in an attempt to get to a level that is probably not achievable. With my top shelf flowers that I cultivate myself now, 0.1 can get me high for hours.

Loving conduction/radiation discussion because even peaple with knowledge of thermodynamics make big confusion between radiation and conduction.

As already reported conduction happens only within a body (something sharing atomic strong bond) like a metallic needle transferring heat from the tip heated to the other end, that is conduction, or the vapman crucible transferring heat from where you apply flame to the whole crucible, that is heat conduction.

From a heated bowl to the cold load there is no conduction AT ALL, that is science not opinion, if there is no heated air passing by it is radiation only (MFLB)

So in solo: there is radiation from the bowl to the load plus some convection due to air passing between glass and hot bowl and tranferring heat by that way.

Sorry for digression but it is disturbing to read peaple spreading confusion.

THERE IS NO CONDUCTION VAPORIZER AT ALL (if you refer to how the load receive heat) only radiation/convection in differents proportion.
Deal with it, or prove me wrong.

Best to you

And BTW there is a very calm thread about this matter

I won't get into the rest of it because honestly I'd feel over my head, and can't add anything good to the discussion... but this is one of the reasons I love this site so much. Sometimes we get a little rowdy with the discourse but easily top 5 online communities for me because we can disagree and not be assholes to each other. I'm about 4 stems in so I hope it makes sense. On to number 6... or is it 5?

I'm with you @Quetzalcoatl, I know metal 'conducts' heat (and electricity), but does conduction require atomic bonds, way over my head!

Is the glass stem chamber getting heated by conduction from touching a metal oven, or radiation emanating from the oven? And thus conduct the heat to the herb from physical contact with glass or again is it radiation through entropy?

If I touch a hot object, do I get burned from radiation or conduction (or both?)

I believe the heat transfer is the heater at the bottom to the metal "cup" which then transfers to the glass. The hot glass touches the material, hence conduction. I still think the hot air is there, an old stem I had broke at like 1.5 inches from the bowl end and I flame polished it and made it a turbo stem. Hitting it dry I could feel heat going through, and setting a "tophat" style screen against the rim placed the flowers further down than normal and not touching anything but the screen, and I stillgot some vapor. I wonder how much of the conduction happens when the material is suspended in the stem and not in contact with the glass.

Well there is definitely some radiation involved, you can't avoid it being so close to a heat source!

According to Wiki, a saucepan sitting on an oven heats up via conduction and as you can have a metal ring (electric) hob and a glass pan which are not bodies of the same material bonded atomically in any way.

I surmise that simple heat transfer between two bodies in contact with each other is conduction.

Therefore I believe the Solo uses all three heat transfer mechanisms to work. Mainly radiation / conduction, with a bit of convection as you draw :2c:
